I think moving with your hubby and kids is the best option.
Keep your distance, maintain a lot of privacy, let hubby know to keep home affairs between you two, ( I think I can relate to your experiences thelish)
I only get to see my mother in law once in a few years and that helps.
Do you know the last time she came to visit me with her daughter, my younger sister in law, she instigated so much trouble,
She kept on telling her daughter that I was jealous of her( a girl about 15 years younger than me)
She would say her daughter is prettier than me( I mean such word from an elderly woman) then she would yank my stuff and give them to her daughter without permission and this is when I drew a line with them.
Then they would sit down gossip about me as soon as I left the room,
Anyway this got to my sister in laws head and she started pulling an attitude on me
Guess what I banned her from coming back to my house, she does not even know where me and hubby live and she is not welcomed,
Good thing I have many in laws that I get along with fine, my father in law is wonderful, he will warn you about my mother in laws behavior.
So just do what works for you, keep your family strong.
We really are in d same shoes, but mine is tighter than urs. She has campaigned all sorts of bad stuffs about me, to whoever that cares to listen. Her children that were good pals suddenly came to fight me, dat their mum said I insulted her. I asked them if I have insulted them for once, then start it with their mum? For 2yrs now, we r still not in good terms. All kinds of swear to hubby for not chasing me out of d house.
What pains me most, was that I once took this woman as my mom. I was even closer to her than my mum. She is a great pretender n a backstabber. I feel so betrayed my dear. Na once my sweet marriage tire me o. Just feel like leaving her son for good. But he hasn't really wronged me in any way. Just that he will not talk when he needs to. He can't stand to defend himself talk more of another.

I can relate my dear. My own will be sad if me and hubby look happy, she will go lock herself in her room.
It poses a very challenging situation, I live very far away. You would think distance makes it better, no it don't. But it helps with avoiding interfere rance.
It helps if your husband knows what kind of a mother he has, then he can prepare you ahead of time.
My hubby can't talk ooo. he is scared of d mum. So its either we move to a faraway state or I move alone with my kids. Na money still hold me for this place.

Mine too....
My MIL seems exceptional. Maybe because of her foreign exposure. But she never interferes in our affairs. I remember when hubby and I were still courting...When I visit the family house, hubby serves me food and when I'm tru eating my hubby will take the dishes to the kitchen while I sit like a queen and she never frowned even for once..
Whenever I try to clear up dishes or clean up, hubby will insist that I don't..

When Hubby told her he wanted to get married to me, she said it's kol that she won't stay with him and so won't decide who he should marry...

If I visit her, she gets my breakfast and hot bath water ready before I get out from bed...
She baths my daughter and washes clothes...Yet she is very comfortable financially..

Cos of the love She shows, I naturally do everything to make her happy...
If her daughters jokingly complains, I tell them to go and meet their MILs and stop disturbing mine. They'll all start laughing cos she takes sides with me.
My own dey even vex to see me n my hubby eating together or call him honey.she says is disrespect. Na so I start call am brother *** ooo. lol

op you really should stay out of people's family matters but from what you described, seems this is a polygamous household?

and if your aunty is a multiple wife, then she might be feeling bad about that especially if she feels it was not necessarily her choice.

just guessing here.

lord have mercy.

why did the stepdaughter's own mother not assist her with the baby?
Her mother went for d omugwo initially but was driven out of the house with d allegation of stealing 5000 thousand naira. so she left in tears.

i was in tears while reading the topic and comments,7 months ago i lost my wife of 5years in marriage living behind 2 lovely sons who are age 4 and 2 respectively, she was a pillar to me while i was an undergraduate at uniben, the cause of her death is still a mystery, i ve been praying for God to see me thru,my 2 boys keep asking me 'Daddy when is mummy coming back from the market, cos the day this unfortuate incident happened, she called that she will pick up some provisions from the market while she drop the senior boy at school, before she left she complain that she was not too ok,i insisted she shd rest and she our Doc b4 leaving for the market 'dont worry dear am fine;she came back frm market while i was at work, she when to the clinic herself, she was diagnoze treated she ate very well,i closed frm work having picking up the kids frm schl,we were all 2gether at the clinic till 8pm when she requested that i shd send for her sister which i did,she told her sister that to take the kids to her place that let me remain,i stayed till 12am when nurses ask me to leave, while leaving she said 'take care of the children, then i said am i not doing well enough?she replied i know you can but i want to be sure,i told her the kids are fine and not to bother, not knowing i was seeing her alive for the last time, barely 30mins while at home trying to catch some sleep, the Doc drove to my place, which i find unusual,he was trying to be over friendly,i kept calm when back to the clinic,at the entrance my senior colleagues came to me and said God will take control,i went to her bed on looking at her closely she look as if she was sleeping, then i told them she will be ok everybody shld go and sleep, not until the Doc said ur wife is no more,at that moment i went blank,12hrs later having regaining consciousness,my mum, brothers were sitting by my bedside in a different hospital entirely praying, then i knew my wife is no more, its a terrible experience no one will understand except someone who have had similar predicament.the idea another woman is out of the question, how will i explain to my kids that am having another woman in there Daddys house.HOW?
This is so touching, pls take heart n be strong for d kids. It is well.

OK ooo.
She just sacrificed her political position for her husband's eldest son. And the funny thing is that they dont even like her with all her sacrifices. She can go out of her way to give people job, but her children are managing with private school teaching.
In fact, the matter long n complicated.
Don't know if she is been controlled against her children.

Are her kids still young?
I don't understand the story
The eldest daughter is married with three kids now, The last still in d university. This whole problem started when the kids were still in primary n secondary sch.
Just last year, the step daughter told her that my aunt married daughter is troubling her marriage cos a native doctor told her so.
Could you believe my aunt couldn't defend her daughter, instead, she was calling dff pastors to pray for the marriage to come bk.

Is your story for real?
Your aunt probably has psychiatric issues or has put her hands in fetish things that have turned her against her children.
Maybe she's in the same 'society' with the stepdaughter.
Not just this step daughter in particular. Even those that have humiliated n maltreated her. She likes to please people at d detriment of her happiness.
She will always spend extravantly for others, but not to herself n children. when it comes to that, she is broke.
I don't know if she is been controlled. but she is a serious n dedicated christian.

Can you be best of friends with someone that hate your child?
A close aunty of mine has an attitude I hate so much. She finds pleasure in smiling n gisting with people that hate her children.
Her step daughter drove her two daughters from her house and labelled them Witches, even to the point of going to chain them by a prophet. Is this not enough for a mother to be angry? Instead she still visits this lady and even do omugwo for her for 3months, abandoning her kids, job n family. But she has never done omugwo for her own daughter before, with d excuse of job.
I believe my child's enemy is automatically mine as well.
pls your opinions

You are describing my MIL. I am due soon and I am not even thinking of calling anyone to bathe my baby after my experience with her on my first child. I don't have strength to argue. You are expected to saying yes and Nod in agreement with everything she says. Awa o to omo ri. Meaning We have not taken of children before. OP let them stop that MIL before something terrible happens to those kids. When it does, the parents bear the cost of hospital bills and the same MIL will say the parents are careless in taking care of the children. I am speaking from experience. May God save us.
Exactly. I will think of where to run to on my next baby. Though she swore never to come to our house again sha.
