I believe Israel intentionally ignored the warning so that they would have a good reason to go to war with Hamas. Unfortunately, the destruction of lives and properties was much greater than they expected. They underestimated Hamas.

On the other hand, I don't understand what pushed Hamas to start something that they clearly can't finish. I feel like someone may have pushed them with a promise of support that we are yet to see.
