Sad story but I believe the condition surrounding their deaths.
Georgia, Ukraine, China and even Russia are countries known for shoddy building construction and we Nigerians always looking for the cheapest possible housing are prone to acquiring run-down accommodation.

Its sad to finally discover the search for cheap housing led to their deaths but its too late for even them to think "had I known".

I should go and buy a spoilt Nigerian car shocked

Nobody's saying they shouldn't industralize but let it not be at d expense of d masses getting wat they want...let there be a competitive field for both foreign & local

Bros take it easy, as you can see it has been healthy discussion throughout, no harm was intended just that you surprised us with your comparism. You can compare the BMW 3series to the C-class as in 318, 320, 325 etc you can only compare the X3 with the C class if you are talking interms of terrain.
You are talking to d wrong person here man....d person you should quote dat to is d person who jumped on ds healthy thread to say wat he knows nothing about.

A reasonable person on ds thread has explained to him why its okay to compare both...instead of him to keep shut & learn he decided to lurk around d corner until he

BMW is more performance oriented than Mercedes (that doesn't mean they can't be luxurious). That's why they let their US plants manufacture only their X- and Z-series.
If you want pure driving experience (comfort be damned), then the Beemer is your man. But if you want pure refinement with a stint of performance, then go for the Merc.
So yur telling me Beemer gat more power dan d Benz, will it also last longer dan d Benz too?

And do you mean d X3 might be underpowered since its being produced in d US?
Car TalkRe: V8 /v12 Mercedes.... by themodernman: 10:26pm On Apr 08, 2015
CityNG:
I keep a "bucket list" of iconic (my own definition based on research) cars that I must own, the E38 was on there.

I came across mine by a combination of luck and readiness of funds. It was insanely cheap.

During my 40,000 mile ownership it was just oil changes and a spark plug upgrade. I di some cosmetic changes like installing a subwoofer, etc but nothing major mechanically. I also did a swap to drilled and slotted front brakes with ceramic pads (eye popping stopping power, consistently).

I then had a crazy idea to flush the transmission after it developed a slight hunt when climbing hills. It was very slight but annoying to me as I notice things like that on my cars.

The flush procedure involves getting the car up on stands and topping it off while the engine was running. So imagine a Yoruba boy under a heavy a$$ 740 with the engine running - na fear fear stuff. So I'm sure I screwed up somewhere by not doing it properly. 5,000 miles later the transmission packed up, replacement cost was more than the price of the car so I decided to let it go. i sold it for more than I bought it for to a mechanic that so happened to have a brand new (not rebuilt) transmission.

Maintenance:

Not any worse than any of the other BMWs that I've owned. 1602, 2002, Bavaria, 530i, 528e, 528i, 325i, 325iS. Brake pads, etc were not expensive, I looked at shocks and that was pricey but I was only looking at top shelf products.

MPG:

Just like any other car, the driver controlled the gas milage. This car was very agile for it's size, in fact I am more confident entering curves in this car than I am in my 3 series, the exhaust note is angelic, especially when Vanos kicks in at high rpm under load so I tend to be hot dogging more than usual. So gas milage was usually in the pits. But when I drive nice it returns very good milage.

Drivability:

If you do get one and if it's in a good condition I expect you to come back and sing praises of how can BMW make such a big car handle like a sports car. It's simply amazing. Gobs of horsepower at any speed, even at freeway speed at 100mph when you floor the gas pedal it simply downshifts and scoots off.

Luxury:

If it was necessary in the 2000s then it has it. The 750iL (the piece the resistance) also has rear reclining seats. You have everything gentleman needs to oppress the landscape as far as luxury is concerned. None to go through a list. Has built in cellphone and even humidors (debatable) in the backseat. This is a very very high end car and not one you need to be adding options to. This was BMWs opulence factory response to other cars like the S cars. The Sheik of whatever oil country and you have the same car if you roll in an iL. grin They can have their gold plated Ferraris and Rolls Royce but this is what they typically get chauffeured around in on a more daily basis.

I would buy another one in a heartbeat. Try to look for a 2001 740iL (I like the L) with over 100,000 miles (there's a nasty pricey maintenance that is due around that period and you want to make sure it's been done properly).
What I don't like about BMW is dr dash board...doesn't look sexy at all...unlike d Benzey

Car TalkRe: Auto Policy: FG, Stakeholders Plan Implementation by themodernman: 9:43pm On Apr 08, 2015
AutosBay:
The federal government, vehicle manufacturers, dealers and licenced customs agents, among other stakeholders, have agreed to leave no stone unturned in their bid to ensure that the ongoing implementation of the National Automotive Industry Development Plan is sustained in line with global best practices.

The stakeholders agreed that the sustained implementation of the policy with periodic reviews to suit economic needs was in the interest of Nigerians and the economy.

The minister of industry, trade and investment, Mr Olusegun Aganga, said that the extensive stakeholders’ consultations and collaboration had afforded the federal government the opportunity to access the level of progress so far recorded in the implementation of the policy with a view to addressing major challenges facing players in the sector.

The minister, who spoke after a meeting with members of the National Council of Managing Directors of Licenced Customs Agents in Abuja, yesterday, added that with the level of success so far recorded, 10 more auto plants had finalised plans to begin operations in Nigeria before the end of this year.

Aganga said, “Within the past one week, we have been holding consultative meetings with stakeholders in the automotive industry, including all the vehicle assemblers across the country and the National Council of Managing Directors of Licenced Customs Agents.

“This is to review the current level of the implementation of the National Automotive Industry Development Plan; to assess the level of progress made so far; to understand the challenges facing the players in the sector and what we need to do differently.”

He added, “Since the commencement of the implementation of the policy in July 2014, we have been meeting with all the stakeholders in the auto industry.

This is to ensure that we carry everyone along so that we can fast-track the implementation of the policy and achieve the overall objectives of the policy in terms of job creation, industrialisation, local content development and reduction of pressure on our foreign exchange due to massive importation of vehicles into the country.

“Last week, we met with all the vehicle manufacturers/assemblers in the country. On Monday this week, we met with Clearing Agents. Also, we will be meeting with agents/dealers on used cars. This is because we believe that there is the need to consult with all the stakeholders in the auto industry as we go ahead with the implementation of the new auto policy.”

Aganga, who expressed satisfaction with the level of progress made so far with the implementation of the seven-month old auto policy, said the government and operators in the sector were focusing on local production of vehicle component parts in order to create more jobs and generate wealth for Nigerians.

He said, “From the stakeholders meetings we have held so far, I must say that we are particularly encouraged by the level of interest and enthusiasm being shown towards the new automotive policy by Nigerians and also by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).

“The bottom line is that everyone is saying that so far, we have exceeded our expectations. If anyone had told us that about 22 OEMS would sign into the new auto policy in less than one year of its implementation, we might not have believed it. Currently, we have about four of them that are assembling vehicles in Nigeria. We are expecting another 10 OEMs to start assembling cars in the country before the end of this year.”

Aganga added, “Together with the major players in the sector, we have discussed and agreed on ways of accelerating the local production of automotive component parts on a product by product basis. Also, we have focused on how to establish an affordable vehicle financing scheme as quickly as possible.

“In this regard, we have already signed a Memorandum of Understanding with WestBank, (the bank that finances one out of every three cars produced in South Africa) to finance the purchase of new cars for Nigerians at a very low interest rate. The bank will commence operation very soon. The whole idea is to make finance available for Nigerians who are buying new cars assembled in Nigeria, with an option to pay back within a period of four to five years.”

PoliticsRe: States That Would Be Hot During This Governorship Elections - By Lalasticlala by themodernman: 9:29pm On Apr 08, 2015
lalasticlala:
They are otherwise known as volatile states.

From the political happenings, it's obvious that the following states could be termed volatile:

1) Rivers State: Amaechi complained of army harassment, malpractices, during the last presidential election. APC even called for the cancellation of the results from Rivers.
Of course, incidences of killings, violence were also recorded in various parts of the state.

So this time around, Amaechi would want to do everything within his powers, ( remember he now had 'oga at the top') to ensure that APC Candidate wins the gubernatorial election in rivers.

On the other hand, Wike who has the backings of the presidency would also do all he can to ensure he wins.

So it's a fight to finish...

2)Lagos State: APC, the ruling party would do all it could to ensure it retains power, especially now that APC is about to control the federal government. APC can't afford to lose Lagos state.

On the other hand, PDP, haven lost the federal government, would do all it can to ensure it wins Lagos state.

The Oba of Lagos alleged threat may also play a role in making Lagos a hot zone during the coming governorship elections.

3 Imo State: It's obvious that PDP would likely win in most of the south eastern states. But Okorocha would want to do all he can to ensure that APC wins. Okorocha cannot afford to lose IMO now that APC would call the shots at the federal government level. But PDP would equally fight to ensure Okorocha loses power.
Recall, during the last presidential elections, Okorocha alleged of army harassment of APC members.

What do you think about the above states I enlisted as volatile states?
Are there other states you consider to be volatile that should be mentioned?
You should bring them on board.
