Here is Xender running on KaiOS. However, it is a terribly nerfed version of Xender built using HTML5 and CSS. You can only send music and pictures to an Android smartphone, no receiving anything. (iOS? Forget it grin ). I nor even dey use am, sef.

Tecno's T901 has the same specs of the older M561M2 (256MB RAM/512MB eMMC) but the battery is smaller (1500mAh).

I don't particularly think that KaiOS can even find 512MB enough (i.e. web pages will easily choke this phone). 256MB RAM would fare even worse.

2. This is a common problem (i.e. there is no proximity sensor).

3. The Xender is woeful. Don't use it. I'll explain why later.

Hello, fellers. Hope you guys are healthy and safe (my God, did I just use Ben Sin's intro? grin ).

Alright, so I've been using a (cheap!) KaiOS
device for a little over a year and a half as a primary (only) phone. Hell; it's what I'm using to type this review(!) So, I want to share with you guys how it is using this ''smart feature phone''.

So, I bought this device; specifically the MTN Smart T M561M3, on February last year, for #8500 MSRP. Precisely, February 6, 2020. I placed the order on Jumia and got the phone five days later (order was on February 3).

Of course, I did my research before making the decision. I knew what to expect, but as I have said so many times; the best way to find out the truth about a phone or what is like is to use it.

I wasn't expecting an Android-replacement experience. In fact; I wasn't even expecting Tizen OS level of mobile OS performance, though I must say I was stoked over a keypad-driven device with Google Assistant, YouTube, WhatsApp and of course Xender and ShareIt. (There's Facebook and Twitter, too!) So I placed the order and got the phone.

I will post pictures very soon; and in this thread I will post in-depth reviews and photos so that you will get the message, just in case you wanna jump in! grin (No, literally grin ) ( grin)

Okay, sorry for fooling around.

DEVICE SPECIFICATIONS:

MTN Smart T M561M3 (produced and manufactured by China Mobile)



NETWORK:
-2G GSM 900/1800MHz
-3G UMTS 900/2100MHz
-4G: N/A ( Pretty much only the Qualcomm-based KaiOS devices like the Nokia 8110 4G and Alcatel Go Flip have LTE modems)

SIM: Dual-SIM, Dual-Standby

(Yes, 3G is supported on both SIMs, but to use it both SIMs must be MTN SIMs; SIM 1 must have an MTN SIM or you cannot use the device. SIM 2 can use any other SIM but is locked to 2G only.

An MTN SIM must be in the device for the device to work. You can use the phone without the SIMs if you put it in airplane mode then remove the SIMs).

SIM type: Regular Mini-SIM + NanoSIM (SIM 1 & 2)



PLATFORM:

DISPLAY: 2.4-inch TN-TFT LCD, 16M colours, 240x320 (QVGA) resolution.

TOUCH: (Hell) no.

(Display has OK colours but even my ex-BlackBerry Bold 9900 beats it in contrast and black levels. The display gets decently bright but the sun thoroughly defeats it. This is no Galaxy S10+)

Spreadtrum (now Unisoc) SC7731EF, 32nm (wot d'ye 'xpect? cheesy )

CPU: quad-core 1.3GHz Cortex-A7

GPU: Mali-T830 MP1

RAM: 512MB LPDDR2

STORAGE: 4GB eMMC

(There are TWO MTN Smart T models: M561M2 with 256MB RAM and 512MB eMMC, in black; and mine, in gold with 512MB/4GB.
Specs wise; it's very comparable to Tecno's Y2. But is it better? We will see!)

OPERATING SYSTEM: KaiOS 2.5.0; updated to 2.5.1; no security patch info.

TEXT AND INPUT METHOD: Predictive (T9) numeric keypad.

There's nothing like 'best camera phone overall'.

Because no phone is perfect. It's all about the image and colour processing and white balance that differentiates them; i.e. how do you like the 'look' of the images produced?

Take the S21 Ultra, for example. I'd rate it as the most flexible all-rounder; though Oppo's Find X3 Pro, Mi 11 Ultra, Huawei P50 Pro and vivo X60 Pro+ beat it in ultrawide camera quality. And P50 Pro beats it in low-light zoom.

The Mi 11 Ultra I'd put it almost on a tie with the Samsung Galaxy; but Samsung just beats Xiaomi plain silly in selfie photo and video quality and shot-to-shot consistency.

I'd have put the Find X3 Pro and the Honor Magic 3 Pro+ as the best smartphones for pro video recording, but Xperia 1 III and 5 III are the kings in that area. Perhaps, a tie for second?

The vivo X70 Pro+ in my opinion takes the best low light pictures (rear ultrawide, main and portrait telephoto), with the best video stabilization. And I'd put the Huawei P50 Pro and the Samsung S21 Ultra as the best zoom camera.

But in sheer video quality and best point-and-shoot camera; only the Pixel 6 Pro can challenge the iPhone 12 Pro Max. And the gap just got even wider with the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Some of y'all on Nairaland are making me laugh here, I swear. grin

Not even because of what Reno Omokri said (I didn't even give it more than a glance, since obviously what one does with them money or even them life is their business, not mine) but that most people here are saying ''the iPhone 13 series is the same damn phone''.

Well, if you are one of those people; that's your opinion. But I know for a fact that it isn't.

Look at it this way: what upgrades or improvements does the 2019 Mercedes-AMG G63 have over the 2020 model? You want the honest truth? Zero. Even the 2021 model has just ONE notable upgrade - the instrument cluster (speedometer, rev counter, fuel gauge) are now 100% digital by default as standard equipment; no analog gauges of any kind as an option. Yet some people dey upgrade am in just one year.

Compared to the 2021 G63 AMG; the iPhone 13 mini has a heck of a lot more improvements. Make I list am?

Bigger battery (by far the biggest and most noticeable, in my opinion); more base storage (128GB over 64GB last year IS NOT AN UPGRADE huh undecided ); better cameras (selfie now has Center Stage); better video performance; brighter and less-intrusive display; improved biometrics (FaceID); better network performance and efficiency; and of course; better software support and longevity (I nor even mention newer colors LOL; they are meaningless to me). Let's not even talk about the Pros.

Granted; if these don't matter to you; don't upgrade. People should invest, true; but even investment has risk. And you have to be really smart to maximize your profits. It is why I keep telling people that not every one can become an entrepreneur.

Funny thing about this whole iPhone debacle is that countries like the US, the UK and China where Apple stuff don't cost so much and where you can get GREAT deals and special offers aren't ranting as much as other places about why there is even an iPhone 13 SMH.

Listening to me; one might think I hate Infinix/Tecno and I want to see them die. No. Infact, I like them now. Why? I'll get to that one of these days. wink

Criticism is important. It makes you sit up; even unfairly. My popsy dey punish me well well when I was very young (typical African 'discipline'). My elder bro (love you, man) is the thug of the family (we be two, na two boys my mama born cheesy ). If he do sonting, I dey collect shout and stoop-down well well. It has made me from a good-boy, 'predictable' nice guy to a terrorist ( damn, I LOVE being bad now grin ). Some of us fit relate for here. cool

I attack other brands too, even the vaunted Xiaomi. Infact, Transsion isn't even the brand I despise the most. That honour goes to M-Horse (what the frigging heck is THAT?)

Xiaomi (and all the other top Chinese brands) dey vex me, too. Like, why no headphone jack? Why no expandable memory? Why no 4K 60FPS recording on all cameras, selfie included? (yes, I'm a videophile. wink ) Why no OIS on every single camera? Why no USB 3.0/3.1 Gen1/3.2 Gen1? Why no notification LED? AND WHY NO UNLOCKABLE BOOTLOADER?

To understand how I feel about smartphones as a whole, watch SomeGadgetGuy on YouTube. In my opinion he is the best reviewer on the planet after Steve Litchfield (The Phones Show).

That Brit guy Litchfield (I call him Old Man Litchie smiley ) has been reviewing phones even before GSMArena (believe it). These two LITERALLY speak my mind. Litchfield feels the same way I do about smartphone cameras: capture EXACTLY what your eyes see. No overprocessing, no oversaturation, no oversharpening. Just what you see.

We don't always agree, though (I think video recording using different focal lengths i.e. wide, ultrawide, telephoto e.t.c. should be done on-the-fly, not by stopping the recording to switch cameras like a DSLR). However, those two are at the top of my list of reviewers I trust.

NA CRITICISM GIVE UNA 108MP HM2 WITH OIS AND 8MP PERISCOPE, PLUS 120Hz AMOLED; XFANS. AND NA CRITICISM GO GIVE YOU TECNO/INFINIX/ITEL USERS ANDROID 14 UPGRADE. SO, CRITICIZE!

A Notebookcheck comment did get my attention. The fellow said a mobile CPU with 2 Cortex-X1s in a single cluster does not make sense, because the X1 is a very power-hungry core that gets real hot.

So perhaps it's just 2.8GHz Cortex-A78 x2?

A leakster claimed GS101 Whitechapel, aka Tensor, known at Samsung LSI as Exynos 9855; will fall somewhere between Exynos 2100 and Exynos 2200 in raw performance.

What do you think, people? I think this leak makes 2x X1 more likely; unless Google's using a s***load of L2 cache?

Either way, I hope it can at least match the Snapdragon 888 in peak performance (and beat it in sustained workloads, too).

I'm gonna assume you're an average user, and by that I mean you just want to browse desktop web pages, watch pirated Netnaija shows grin, play PES 2020 at 30FPS Low to Medium, and maybe do school work and light MS Office workflows and maybe a little graphic design.

I assume this because my guy if you wan buy one of dose new gaming ultrabook laptop (e.g. Acer Nitro 5) you go find at least iPhone 12 Pro Max 256GB 'tear rubber' money o. grin

So based on my assumptions, I would recommend a second-hand (aka UK used) HP ProBook 450 G4. Decent WXGA+? (768x1336) display, good performance (Core i5-7500U), manageable RAM (4GB, but LPDDR3? Sheesh). Too bad it has an HDD. Storage is a lot though, 500GB SATA HDD.

If you find am, grab am. Some SKUs even come with dedicated graphics! (Nvidia 930MX GPU, great for PES 2021 Medium at 30-40FPS! Remember, the display is low res, so why not?)

I guess the leaks were spot on. Big ups to Infinix. You deserve a thumbs-up.

Yes, I find the 120Hz situation curious. Perhaps by 'intelligent optimisation' they mean 90hz+ 40Hz black frame insertion to get 120Hz; not that BFI is necessarily a bad thing. Brightness is a big letdown of BFI, since you're strobing black frames. Me'd rather have G95 with Mali-G76 MP4 and 90Hz than G96 with G57 MC4 and 120Hz. G57 ain't bad but it ain't as good as G76.

108MP is DEFINITELY HM2 (@atheistandproud, what are you expecting? HM2? HM3?! (Nibo grin)) Anyways, 1/1.52" sensor plus OIS should result in even better low light performance. Score two for the XFans. (Yes, yes, G95 doesn't support 108MP snapshot, but hey; it's pixel-binning to 12MP that gives the best results).

8MP periscope with 60x zoom? Good. Don't expect vivo X60 Pro+ or ZTE Axon 30 Ultra-level zoom quality, though. I've always said this: there is more to camera performance than raw specs. Ask Pixel users. Anyway, should be the best Infinix camera phone. wink

Everything else is A-OK, though.

Here's me waiting for the price. Now that's the SELLING POINT !

Yes, I'm talkin' TWO FLIPPIN' ARM Cortex-X1 CORES!

It goes like this, they say:

2x Cortex-X1 @2.8GHz
2x mid-tier (Cortex-A78, certainly) @2.25GHz
4x Cortex-A55 @1.8GHz.

GPU: Mali-G78 MP??

I hope this has at least 8MB of L3 cache to keep those big cores well-fed. The Exynos 2100 & Snapdragm 888(+) do not use the 8MB L3 cache ARM used to state the X1 performance gains over the previous gen. They both use 4MB L3 instead.

And the GPU? Well, the Mali-G78 is a capable performer; so it may not beat the 888; but it should at least beat the 870.

What do you all think?

For Intel, u-line processors are single speed and power conserving. H-lines are variable speed and can be over-clocked in turbo... But power consuming. Two I7, U and H with 2.3 ghz, the H may get to 5ghz while the U may occasionally get to base speed.

Another trick Intel buyers should know... A 1 or 2 core with 16 threads i7 is inferior to an 8 core with 16 threads i7. They both will read 16 CPU but nah.... One is God mode to the other.... Ask Apple MacBook Pro. It's either 4,6 or 8core before the threads

For AMD, there is generosity with cores because of competition with Intel hence better performance in recent releases. However, the U versions follows the same trend with Intel. The S and X version are the variable speeds.

So don't compare a spectre to an alienware.. one is giving you performance in cosmetics while the other is giving you a power hungry, boundless performance.

I am currently using my first H-series Intel on MSI Katana. 11800H paired with a RTX 3050 Ti .

Let us count from 1, 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10. Now according to this, 1 is the smallest number right? Followed by two, three 4 all the way to 10. Now let say I buy core i3 that is no more 5. Let make up a name and call it Corei3 5100U.
Then your friend buys core i7. Which should be better than core i5 because you must count 6 before you get to it. Then your friend is a novice and got core i7 1001U which is the first number in the corei7. Can you see you're now 4 numbers ahead of him, you're definitely faster. So in CPU, you should focus more on the generations and not the core etc. the i there means nothing. Core i3 of number 10. Let's say core i3 10110U will beat a core i7 8th number, because the core i3 is 2 numbers ahead. So if you have a core i3 and your friend has core i7 with 8gen, then he won't brag because you have a stronger CPU.

Uh, excuse me; but Intel's CPU lineup is a LOT more than just 8th generation 10th generation.

Believe it or not, a Core i9-11980HK, the latest, top-drawer enthusiast laptop CPU (11th generation; Tiger Lake-H, 10nm ESF, 8c/16t) is no match for a Xeon W-2175 (6th generation; Cascade Lake-SP, 14nm+, 14 cores/28 threads.)

Okay, I'll be more fair. Core i7-8750H will still kill i3-10310U.


Now more factors to consider when buying a CPU.
Ram: this days we use DDR4 rams, DDR3 are outdated and outlived their usefulness, but still they are not bad. Don't just buy ram because you heard it's ddr4. In rams there are numbers as well. If you buy ddr4 1600mhz speed you can't beat a person with 3200mhz speed. You need to check the speed at which the rams write.
True, but me I'mma pick TWO 8GB + 8GB DDR4 1600MHz over ONE 16GB DDR4-3200MHz.

Now graphics card is what handles the gaming, you can have a low end CPU but good graphics card, although it will bottleneck the GPU, but you can game.
You know what some gamers do? They'll buy a Core i5-9500 and an RTX 3070 and bam! They're getting rock-steady 120fps in GTA V.

If you want a CPU for multitasking then go with AMD those guys are beast. If you need a single core performance, then go with Intel.
AMD is the current single AND multicore champ. Have you seen AMD's TRULY EPYC (¡) 7742 Hexatetradeca-core grin grin grin (64-CORE 128-THREAD) shocked shocked ROME CPU??
