najoomey:@naijaomey thanks for dashing me the link. ![]() WHY GOOGLE'S TENSOR (CODENAME WHITECHAPEL) IS A MASSIVE DEAL For those of us techies, leakmongers, techsurfers and wireheads (thanks, Tom Clancy's Net Force ) the Pixel Tensor review didn't catch us as a complete surprise. Hell, the only surprise is the big (spying) G spilling the beans before October. Okay, maybe they DIDN'T TELL US WHAT EXACTLY THE SYSTEM-ON-CHIP HAS BAKED IN. Like, How powerful is it? Does the main CPU use Cortex-A77, A78 or even better the brand new A710?? Any Cortex-X1 (or X2 ) 'ultra-high performance' core? What is the clockspeed (how fast is it)? How good is the GPU? (Mali? WHAT Mali?? G77, G78, G710?? How many execution units?) Some leaksters claim it may even get AMD's RDNA Mobile? How true is this? Well, join me as we break down the leaks and rumours like a power user. ![]() |
Make I use leg waka come this side... ![]() I wan open topic before, but I wan use here. Okay, it's official: I DON HIJACK THIS THREAD!! ![]() CALL YOUR POLICE. ![]()

My only interest in the upcoming iPhone 13 series are astrophotography mode (Pixel 4/5 users, how una dey ); portrait mode video; and more improved video recording capabilities.**Portrait mode video: basically aesthetical background blur during video recording for artistic effect (Samsung Note10/10+; Huawei P40/Mate 40 series, Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 11 Ultra owners, wassup? UNA DON DEY CRUISE AM SINCE 2019 NA . ). So, nothing new there; unless they give us accurate background blur in real time 10-bit Dolby Vision 4K at 60FPS WITH STABILISATION FROM ALL FOUR CAMERAS?? MAKE WE DEY WATCH O. ![]() |
Yes, I DID say iPhone 13. Because I'm reasonably sure (after reading this article by PhonArena) that that's what it will be called. (Sorry but I can't post the link. You'll need to go to PhoneArena and check. Sorry. Don't wanna get banned. A quick summary, though: when the iPhone 13 comes out (especially the Pro); YOU'RE GOING TO SEE FANBOYS AND APPLE LOVERS SCREAMING HOW 120Hz IS INCREDIBLE AND INNOVATIVE... JUST LIKE THEY DID WITH FACE ID... ![]() WHO KNOWS; WHEN APPLE BRINGS THE IPHONE 14 IN '22 WITH PERISCOPE CAMERAS AND 8K VIDEO THAT HAS BEEN ON ANDROID SINCE 2019; THEY'LL BE SAYING APPLE INNOVATED... SEPTEMBER AIN'T FAR AWAY NO MORE. ![]() Comments are welcome, as usual. ^Pictures courtesy of Forbes; Let'sgodigital and PhoneArena.

harryodilli19:*rolls eyes* I've seen the Nokia 2 (1GB LPDDR3, Snapdragon 212) beat the Infinix Hot 8 (2GB LPDDR4?, Helio P22) and the Tecno Pop 3 (2GB LPDDR3, MT6580M) in UX smoothness, gesture responsiveness and Chrome multi-tab workflows (running at least six tabs at once.) The Nokia kept four (!) GSMArena tabs open with four social-media apps running in the background. The Infinix kept three tabs; the Pop 3 one. Best of all; the Nokia took two seconds to bring up the keyboard. The Infhnix took four and the Tecno six NB: Each phone had been used for at least one year, with no less than 20 apps installed (yes, I did count them). I think Transsion should fix their software. Maybe newer versions are much better (the Hot 10 was actually good when I used it; just as smooth as a Galaxy A12. Y'see; that's why we're asking for better software support! NB: If you think I'm a fanboy or marketer; well... Look below this post.
|
That phone's selfie camera has OIS! HTC made some cool stuff, mos. |
It pains me deeply to see LG Mobile die... Still the best phone for Audiophiles.* *NB: Only for those who know what DSD256; DoP; FLAC 24/192KHz; Impedance=300 ohms, 42mm drivers/38mm diaphragm and THD=0.1% actually mean. ![]() |

Honestly, if you ask me what the best camera phone is; I'll tell you, ''It's complicated.'' .Like if you don't care about this topic; share if you do. |
If you want an iPhone you can game on for a long time and you want great battery life... Leave the iPhone X and XS... And get the iPhone 11. In my opinion it is the best small iPhone for battery life... Until we get the iPhone 13. And to @lavendae, the position or even the amount of cameras on a device does not make it better. The iPhone X isn't really better than an iPhone 8 Plus camera-wise. And the 11 was quite a big jump for Apple for low light photography. The XR still beats the X, dual camera or not. |
Kakadancefreak:Realme GT Master Edition? ![]() Okay nah.

ORIJIN201:Yes, the A9 was really impressive in it's day. Yes, Apple updated it for that reason. But certainly not just because of the SoC. Apple knew if they removed those advanced features only the newer iPhones could handle; the device would be able to handle it without any probs. And in referrence to the bolded, really all you have to do is replace the battery and - voila! Good as new! YES, THERE WILL BE HEATING ISSUES (HINT: THIS IS WHERE THE IPHONE THROTTLING FIASCO COMES IN) BUT MORE UPDATES DID GET THEM FIXED, YES? AND DOES THE AVERAGE IPHONE 6s USER PLAY HEAVY-DUTY GAMES? NOT REALLY,BOO. [Like I said earlier, it's all marketing gimmicks by AppleCertainly not! What's bad in supporting devices if they can handle it? The Galaxy S8 can sure as hell run Android 12 smooth as butter, my man. It may not be important to you, but it sure as hell is important for current iPhone 6s users. And of course, they should flaunt it! Didn't Samsung flaunt their three years of MAJOR updates as 'one more reason to buy a Samsung phone?' Many android devices that are supported by the development community, receive custom updates to the latest Android OS and work as they should on the latest OS, but for hardware sake, I won't touch these devices because their hardware is outdated. Valid point, but how many Android phones nowadays have unlockable bootloaders? Answer: NOT ENOUGH. This ain't 2014, boo. With 'flagships' I'll give you Google Pixel; OnePlus; Xiaomi (with Mi Account just to flash the damn thing ) and Samsung (Exynos mostly). How many people would you advise to root their phones? Sure, rooting is cool and all (and I love it; me being a power user, yeah? ) but I wouldn't use a rooted phone as a daily driver and maybe be looking for free stuff to download. It's like a woman wearing a light cotton dress without ANY underwear. (Should small breeze blow; well... ). Rooting exposes you to all sorts of malware that will certainly render your device inoperable and irrepairable. I won't advise the average Sule to do it. Small mistake; fonu o ti lo niyen. And many phones never work 100% well on a custom rom. WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS issues, broken USB drivers, crippled advanced stock camera features; don't you know when you root a Sammy, then KNOX is pretty much gone? Ain't worth the hassle, 'mano. However, I could make do with such device if I'm on a tight budget or I will be using it as a fringe second device.I definitely agree with this. ![]() Right now, flagship smartphones are at their peak. You can't even tell the difference in performance.Uh..? NOPE. ME DON'T KNOW 'BOUT YOU BUT I CAN SURE AS HELL SPOT THE DIFFERENCE IN PERFORMANCE BETWEEN A ONEPLUS 8 PRO AND A ONEPLUS 9 PRO. MAYBE IT'S JUST ME. ![]() * Smoothness means; like, responsiveness to user input in swiping, scrolling, typing and display animations. The OnePlus Nord isn't as powerful as a OnePlus 8 (not the Pro); but it is just as smooth. How many 'Droids still feel fluid and smooth out of the box after five years?(!) |
@teeboy2300 @rareoil @krazydave @orijin201 ...And to you readers; Thanks for the criticism. I deserve that. The iPhone 5c indeed got iOS 10 as it's last update. The Pixel 2 DID get Android 11 (a.k.a. Red Velvet Cake). That means it was supported for FOUR YEARS! I'm sorry and I apologize for the misinformation. (Damn you, KaiOS! ) And that my friend (a lady) actually used the iPhone 6, I just mistook her for a guy I also know who uses the iPhone 5c. I apologize again. Please feel free to correct me again. I'm always willing to learn. ![]() However, I definitely do not agree that the S8+ is smoother (note, I said smoother, not FASTER)* than the iPhone. All those bugs y'all mentioned, I am sure you know that they are far more likely to be fixed on iOS than on Android. So those are not so big a deal. iOS is buggy with new updates, yes, but what device isn't? How many Androids can still be as stable as these iPhones are five years down the line? Granted; still updating a five-year old device brings diminishing returns, but is that a bad thing? Isn't sustainability an important thing when you are talking of a handheld device that costs about the same as a decent refrigerator?? Look at Africa. When @91Tech (YouTube) did a review of the iPhone 6s getting an absolutely mind-blowing seven years of updates; people all over the comment section were like; who uses an iPhone 6s in 2021? Yeah, right; like who still drives a 1999 Toyota Camry (Pencil Camry) with 500K miles on it? Seriously . You guys heard of the Pegasus Spyware, yes? Would you really want to be caught with your pants down using a five year old device that hasn't even been patched for Spectre and Meltdown? Anyways, we certainly must give credit to whom it is due, nein? |
NOW, TO CONTINUE: The iPhone captures wide spatial stereo audio from it's microphones. So it's not too surprising it utterly sinks the Phantom in audio quality. It also records in extended dynamic range; up to 4K 60FPS on all cameras; selfie included. You can see this from the seamless way it adjusts exposure. The iPhone also knocks it out of the park in harsh backlight, where it keeps that guy's face properly exposed; where the Phantom exhibits highlight clipping. The Tecno is more contrasty, but (to me at least) that ain't worth a damn. Portraits? LIDAR shows the iPhone just blurring the background in an artificial way. The Tecno does even worse, blurring the guy's edges. In low light the iPhone is far less noisy and has better dynamic range. Where the Tecno did win was in the flower shot; and this is because Apple's portrait mode does not work on non-living subjects. Although the depth of field effect on the Tecno is disappointing; the sensor is big enough to give great bokeh. Sigh, bad software... And I guess the laser AF isn't really that great... Look at the short range of the focus! LIDAR autofocus, however... ![]() So hands down, Apple wins. P.S.: By the way, @Keba619; you DO know your stuff. Keep it up! Gave this a thumbs-up, btw. |
Elxandre:Allaboutmobile.com. He still posts to Allaboutsymbian and Allaboutwindowsphone when it applies to their respective platforms. You have to love the guy's honesty, his passion, dedication and experience and his (British ) wit though. He's reviewed mobile tech way before even GSMArena went into reviews. I learned a ton of stuff from him. He still makes my eyes bug out in 2021.**Psst!: He once mentioned during a phone review about the Lumia 1020 (oh, what a legacy) being able to resize the shot of an image after it was taken because it captured both the information from that 41MP sensor and the oversampled 8MP image at the press of a shutter button; where the Snapdragon ISP would cache the raw data from the sensor in 1GB out of the 2GB of RAM in the phone. LIKE HOW DID HE KNOW THAT! |
thepoweruser:Okay... Here goes. Concerning what it is coming up against; the Phantom X is quite decent. However that 50 meg'pixel; 1/1.31-inch Samsung GN1 did quite averagely here. Do realize that the sensor here is the same one used in vivo's X60 Pro+; universally acclaimed to be one of the best camera phones of the year. But you have to realize that the sensor tells not even a third of the story. The Zeiss T star-coated camera optics; the far more capable Spectra 580 ISP; and most importantly vivo's far superior computational photography software all come together to produce amazing results. Check XDA-Developers' review and see vivo destroy the Galaxy S21 Ultra in sheer low light performance without night mode. The Phantom X is limited by the poorer optics and inferior camera image processing. (TAIVOS vs Smart HDR 3 X Deep Fusion? REALLY? ) Most people would choose the Tecno for it's own look. Me? I follow Steve Litchfield of The Phones Show and AllAboutSymbian/AllAboutWindowsPhone fame. He's arguably my favourite tech journalist, thanks to his old-fashioned but arguably more sensible opinion about how phones should take photos; ie: if the sky is pale blue when you took the picture; that is exactly how it should look. NO EDGE ENHANCEMENT, NO OVERSATURATION, NO SHARPENING. GRASS SHOULD LOOK LIKE GRASS; NOT LIKE MOTTLED GREEN CARPET. (Ahem; SAMSUNG! Hey FWIW; they did reduce this in the S21 Ultra; thank Jesus.)Now, on to the judgement: The iPhone beat the Phantom in dynamic range, exposure, shot-to-shot consistency, edge-to-edge sharpness and detail. The Phantom's ultrawide is mediocre; while on the iPhone the detail was slightly lesser but the camera's colour profiles were similar. The ultrawide is also wider on the iPhone (look at the trees). Of course, the dynamic range is superior; even with the selfies. The Phantom repeatedly blows out the sky to properly expose Keba619. The iPhone 11 series would have done this too, but the 12 improved that all around. Video? No contest. Look, forget the 'dull' colours on the iPhone; they're more true to life. The Tecno's 1080p stabilization isn't even great. It just kicks in now and then; while the iPhone's stabilization is almost gimbal-like at 4K, even. Should we talk about microphones? |
beejayvince:I ain't suprised, boo. *Cue thug voice:* Niqqa, we talkin' four heavy cores here! |
Marvel6233:Lol I'd pick the (now dead) Cortana over Ella... It can't even touch Bixby, which is arguably the most disliked assistant ever.Transsion's geeks should focus that money used to develop this on providing four years of software updates. Just saying. Modified: OMO IF THIS NA DISS MATCH, AND ALEXA DEY DERE... ELLA ABI DANIELLA DON KPEFF... ALEXA O BURU GAN.
|
JayTripz:Boss man no vex o, but what games does your li'l bro play? And one more thing, you said the bolded from your experience, ja? Well if you've truly used other phones for at least six months, you'll understand that some phones are so good yet you don't know 'bout them. |
atheistandproud:Adverts, my man. A big part of why LG's mobile division (sadly) bit the dust was simple: lack of brand recognition caused by poor marketing. To those who keep saying that, 'A good product does not need advert', well ask LG and Sony how they doing. I'vd always and will always love LG flagships. Only a handful of phones beat them in audio quality. That ESS Quad DAC could drive even a 1000-ohm headphone! Same audio chip on the V60 is used in a lot of high-end DAPs/USB DACs. And the V50 is prolly the last Android phone with a hardware MQA decoder and proper DSD playback, as long as you don't update it to Android 10. |
atheistandproud:I can relate with bolded. Never argue with African adults. Especially YOUR PARENTS. Trust me, I've been burned too much for this. If they sense you talking like you know more about something than you do, they start being defensive and bring up stuff like, 'I have more experience' and before you know it, omo na insult everywhere. Na so one Old Man come dey tell me sey make I nor follow one of my Ibo peeps dey hang out. He was like, 'You don't know anything. I am older and wiser than you'. Seriously, sir; do you have to remind me? Good listeners are hard to find in Nigeria. |
Hi guvs, just got back from the banland and I'm enjoying the drama . Nairaland be like England vs Italy; wallahi. ![]() Okay, now time to get serious. @Marvel6233, forget your studio setup or your lighting; I think I've just watched the best Phantom X review. In my opinion, valorreviews and yours are on the same level in terms of judgement and sincerity. Thumbs up and keep it up! After this post I wan go run to YouTube go subscribe. Just hoping you improve the quality of the shoot. Nice one, boss. Now, we're getting to the meat of the matter. @Honestfact101 has a point. Some places in Nigeria that sell Samsung's A72 for over 200K! Jeez! I mean the base version, because say na Samsung. Mtchewww. It's overpriced too. Abeg, nor go near those gaddem places. The low light performance of the main camera is impressive. Tecno, you try. Make I no lie you. But the quality, while not really flagship (high-end oh) level, is really impressive for a midranger. Though the A72, certainly not better than the Phantom in build quality, certainly trashes it in durability (IP67 rating) and of course, software support and quality. OIS on that main lens certainly narrows the gap. (OneUI is far ahead of HiOS, ads and all. Ewww). And it does have a telephoto. Poco X3 Pro? Mad oh. Worse build quality. Main camera not as impressive. Certainly similar ultrawide sensor (Curse those bloody useless 2MP depth and 2MP macro cameras on midrangers). Worse selfie. The Phantom certainly wins with it's far more versatile cameras. 90Hz AMOLED still better than 120Hz LCD. But I'd pick the Poco. Why? You may ask. Far superior haptic feedback, better speakers (stereo), way better software, and of course; price. And Snapdragon 860? (essentially a Snapdragon 855++). Redmi Note 10 Pro, certainly best affordable phone of the year, and a better match overall. Can the Phantom win this one? Well, not really. The Phantom certainly has better camera specs, but the Redmi is just a better overall phone. No contest. BONUS: NA 230K, ABI? OYA MAKE WE ADD iPhone 11 Pro UK USED. DOES THE PHANTOM WIN? IT CANT EVEN GET CLOSE. ![]() FACT IS, THE PHONE TOO COST. WHY NOT 180,000 NAIRA? WELL, MAYBE THEY WANNA PUT PHANTOM WITH APPLE AND SAMMY. SORRY O . HELL, EVEN THE XIAOMI MI 10 IS THE SAME PRICE! TRANSSION; YOU MESSED UP BIG TIME!BUY THIS FOR 230 GRAND ONLY IF: 1) YOU ARE A RICH AND RABID TECNO FAN AND YOU LOVE HIOS AND DON'T CARE ABOUT UPDATES. 2) YOU WANNA PAY 230K TO SEE WIZKID. ![]() 3) YOU HAVE 230K BURNING A HOLE IN YOUR POCKET AND MARKETERS DON SING LIKE MOSQUITO FOR YOUR EAR. GOOD LUCK TO FUTURE BUYERS. |
stanley000:Updates, man; updates. Look at it this way: the iPhone 6s which was released in 2014 is going to get iOS 15! THAT IS SEVEN (7) YEARS OF UPDATES! The best you'll see on Android, IF YOU SEE AT ALL, IS THREE (3) YEARS (Mind you, I mean MAJOR UPGRADES; e.g FROM ANDROID 11 TO ANDROID 12 STABLE, NOT BETA). GOOGLE PIXEL 2 (2017) GOT ANDROID 10 AS IT'S LAST UPDATE. IT CAME WITH OREO (8.1) OUT OF THE BOX. SAMSUNG'S S10 SERIES WILL GET ANDROID 12 AS IT'S FINAL UPDATE. So, as you can see; only Google and Sammy are trying. iPhones are definitely not crap. Hell, even the iPhone 5c a friend uses still runs smoothly on it's last update. (iOS 13! FIVE YEARS?). Even Samsung's S8; FIVE YEARS OLDER; NO REACH AM. It got two years (Android 7.1.1 Nougat to Android Pie) and is not even as smooth! You know what, I'm done here. |
woleabayo:Who with eyes in his head will buy Infinix HOT 7 for #70K?? If pesin offer am to you for #58000, shoot am. |
