This isn't remotely true. Not all parents act out of love. Some do so out of ego, jealousy, spite, wanting to irrationally hold on to a relationship with the child, etc. At some point, an adult child needs to start making his own decisions... you have to learn to sift what you hear from your parents - take the good advice, discard the unhelpful ones. I wish I learned these earlier in life, there are many times I look back and bitterly regret not doing so.
