Mbappe is truly the next heir to the GOAT conversation from his generation. Congrats to him. He is sensational. |
Kingcalls:Comparison is best done at the same time they played the matches. Why will I be comparing someone's performance in 2018 with another's performance in 2021? Is it Messi's fault that he dragged his team to qualification when Ronaldo was being eliminated? Or you think if he had not scored all those goals or assisted against Man Utd and Napoli, Barca would have qualified? Immediately after CR vs Atletico game, Messi himself had a super game against Lyon where he delivered 2 goals and 2 assists to put Barca through the tie. Without that input Barca would have been eliminated as well. |
Kingcalls:Hmm, almost a fair point from you, but then I remember that when the comparison started in 2007 and a prime Ronaldo initially had the edge, no one put up a defence of Messi saying he was 2 and a half years younger and therefore still immature. In the Man U vs Barca matches, the comparisons were straight head-on between the two with no regards for age (Messi was 19 and Ronaldo was 22). It is therefore inevitable that the same narrative would be maintained throughout and any attempt to shift goalposts resisted! Are people still not also comparing Ibrahimovic and Ronaldo in the Serie A despite Zlatan being 3 years older? |
Kingcalls:Balderdash. Please compare like with like, what they both delivered at the same time of their matches since Ronaldo went to Juve. Compare Ronaldo's performance against Ajax with Messi's performance against Man Utd Compare Ronaldo vs Lyon with Messi vs Napoli Compare Ronaldo vs 10-man Porto with Messi vs PSG The superiority of Messi's overall individual performance in the above match-ups is unquestionable, except of course for those who are ignoramuses in football. |
To be candid, Messi and CR7's consistency at the top top level since 2007-2008 has been staggering. Since that time, only Arjen Robben, Lewandoski, and Luis Suarez have had a semblance of top-level consistency for a lengthy time but it's still far from that of Messi and CR7. Prior to Messi - CR7 era, it was an outstanding feat for the best attackers to be in their prime for 6 - 8 years i.e Ronaldo De Lima, Henry, Eto'o, Owen, Raul, Shevchenko etc. Both players are truly a special exclusive breed of footballers in the current generation. But moving on from the collabo talk up there, currently, Messi is still way ahead of CR7 as a player. The stark difference was laid to bare over the 2 legs of the UCL second round ties for both players. |
HoluGraze:Bro, you are right o. Indeed, Barca don ja, Juve sef don ja. But you see this rivalry mata ehn, Ronaldo na igi imu while Messi na Ori, judging from their performances over the 2 legs. And Igi imu Jina Sori if you are familiar with yoruba. |
What a performance from Messi and Barca, especially in the first half. Messi's first half performance against PSG is 10 times better than Ronaldo's performance over 210 minutes against 10 -man Porto. Deep down Ronaldo fans are pained that Messi at least made a brilliant mark on the game. The thing pain them die especially after Ronaldo's performance horribilis yesterday. It's just that they had already decided to troll him regardless of result as long as Barca had been realistically eliminated. Messi get levels abeg; scored both goals against PSG over the 2 legs while the pretender was ghosting along against a weaker team for almost 4 hours of football. |
obonujoker:Lol, my ballet dancer defenders. At least Pique has paid some dues in the past so maybe I may excuse his current decline but that Lenglet isn't it at all. If he can have even half the grit and tenacity Pepe displayed yesterday consistently, I'd be very happy. |
Virus99:Lol, on a serious note though that picture looks more like you yesterday night. Our own premium tears don load and finish since 3 weeks ago. Right now, there is no other way for Barca but up. |
joviegghead:We both know it's practically impossible for our team not to leak in goals especially from a PSG. So to me, the only remotely possible path to another Remontada is a 5-2 victory which is achievable. Our boys need to be on the all out to score and bring along their scoring boots. |
Coldsteel:You're mostly right but Cuadrado was not poor at all. He delivered a game-high 12 Key passes, had a good assist and a game-high 6 dribbles. In fact whoscored gave him the man of the match ahead of Oliviera, Chiesa and Pepe. |
HellVictorinho:I get that you are in great pain and it's making you not to see things accurately. Ndo. For your information, Ronaldo only created one chance/key pass during the entire game and that chance was converted by Chiesa. Check Whoscored.com. So where did you see your own 5 chances? Are you sure you watched the match? How did they not give him the ball? Cuadrado alone sent in a whopping 33 crosses with 12 Key passes during the match. Who was he sending all these crosses/passes to oga? Let us even assume they are not creating chances for him like you said. Shebi as GOAT as some of you are touting him to be, he should have found a way to create chances for himself, not to be blaming teammates that managed to score 3 goals largely without him. Is he that helpless? No sugar coating it, Ronaldo's performance was terrible! |
HellVictorinho:I'm blaming him for not scoring or being more dangerous to create more opportunities for his team against Porto, who are not even the best team in the Portuguese league and over almost 2 and a half matches. Ronaldo was expected to at least score a goal which would have enabled his team to qualify but he didn't. Even if he didn't score, at least he should have been a constant threat. But most of what he did was to be misplacing passes, interrupting promising play opportunities and co. Though he eventually registered an assist but it was not enough for his calibre. No brilliant telling contribution from him throughout the 2 legged tie (other than the assist), and as the supposed best player on the pitch you'd expect he'd not be blamed? If it was Lukaku that fumbled against Porto over two legs like this, we'd be killing him saying he is not world class. We would not remember Inter's defence o. |
HellVictorinho:Lol, okay where was Ronaldo and the defence? See? you still need to answer that question about Ronaldo's whereabouts. I'm not aware that anybody is defending the Juve's defence, so why are you then defending Ronaldo? |
Kingcalls:Well Juve got an early second half red card that affected their ability to mount a genuine comeback in that game. Regardless, the point is Ronaldo has also featured in several matches where Juve lost or drew this season and he didnt have an impact e.g against Napoli, Inter and Atalanta. If he hadn't played these matches and they still lost or drew, you'd have said it was because he wasn't there. So you see, there's no guarantee that if he had featured in those Serie A matches where Juve performed poorly, the result would have been any different. You asking where were other players against Lyon last season? Of course you are right, I recall that Ronaldo was generally singled out for praise after the Lyon match while the other team members were vilified. I, even though not a fan of his, remember commending him for a good performance even as they got knocked out. So in the spirit of consistency, the fair question is where was Ronaldo against Porto this season over the course of 210 minutes (plus plenty injury time) when some of his other team mates (Chiesa, Cuadrado, Rabiot) actually stepped up? |
HellVictorinho:True. But you don't have the FACTs to prove that without Ronaldo, they can't win the league in seasons they won it with Ronaldo. You know why, if you take Ronaldo out of Juve, the logic is that they'd have spent close to the 100million pounds on another top quality striker to fill the void. |
HellVictorinho:False, he actually had two assists in the game. He assisted Porto's match-winning free kick by opening yansh so that the ball can enter ![]() |
Kingcalls:Lori iro, Like they collapsed against Lazio on Saturday when he wasn't there abi? If you watched the match you'd see that they had better balance and precision in the absence of Ronaldo due to the extra midfielder and single striker focal point. |
So na Ronaldo open leg wide for Olivieria's extra-time free kick to pass though and score. Them bring you to come win UCL, you come dey sabotage their efforts. E be things. |
TheHulk616:There is na. During the upcoming Copa Italia final. |
I have hated Pepe all these years because of his dirty tactics against Messi. But men!, his unbelievable performance tonight has earned my admiration. He is a warrior!. Wish Barca had more players of similar mindset and character. |
Juventus players should be spanked seriously. How 10-man Porto did it against all odds is beyond me. Must Frederico Chiesa carry Juve all the time? Useless Ronaldo! |
79733139:The guy I quoted did not restrict the type of racism he was talking about. He simply said if you have confidence, you'd not be bothered by racism against blacks which is totally false. Some people have high confidence level and a strong sense of morality/ethics that pushes them to speak out against perceived injustice. Of course making friends abroad is doable, but it is not as easy as in Nigeria judging by many Nairalanders' comments here and also from my own personal experiences. It takes a much greater level of intentional/concentrated effort to make as many friends there as you do in Nigeria and many people simply don't have the mental strength and discipline to invest such efforts which is why many are complaining of loneliness. And you need to avoid the trap of using the exception to colour the norm. Loneliness and racism is the norm over there for blacks. Your friend who learnt how to speak Russian in order to integrate better is more on the side of the exception as only a low percentage of Nigerians abroad learn to speak the native language in order to belong especially as learning a new language is not exactly easy. Even in Nigeria here, if you are yoruba and you know how to speak hausa with the hausa people, you'd have more Hausa friends than a Yoruba person who does not speak the language. Yet this does not mean there isn't tribalism practiced by the hausa people or vice-versa. It's a universal principle. |
Mcslize:You are talking like a greenhorn. E.g at the emboldened, that's not the racism blacks are complaining about over there. Racism is you sitting down in a bus seat and the white person sitting near you standing up to go to another section of the bus no matter how uncomfortable. Racism is when you are the last person to be served in a restaurant simply because you are black. Racism is when fans throw bananas at black players on the football field implying they are monkeys. These are not cultural shocks as they are outright rude actions anywhere on earth. Please stop mixing issues up and argue reasonably. There's a difference between what is ideal and the reality on ground. Of course you can choose to ignore or not give a f *ck about racism like you have stated, but this does not mean racism is not rampant. Sadly, that's the reality on ground and it is one you'd have to contend with if you are a black person living abroad, regardless of your confidence level. |
Mcslize:Oga, maybe I may admire your tenacity a bit, but there's intelligence in knowing when to give it a rest in face of overwhelming evidence and learn a thing or two. I see that most of your comments lack a practical application. Just like some motivational utopian school of thoughts. Imagine your statement at the bolded. Nothing could be further from the truth. Are you saying that Lebron James, one of the GOATs of basketball, does not have confidence Doesn't Idris Elba have confidence or isn't he handsome enough? These are just few examples of the many blacks that have spoken out openly about racism. Please desist from making assertions without justification. And resist the urge to reply my points from your personal sentimental point of view - else, you'd be advertising your illogicality on a global scale. |
Lord Chris Brown has done it again! |
TheHulk616:Lol, na Thanos dey this wheel o. And as you well know, he eventually loses which is what will happen today! |
What kind of player is this Greizzmann? His intelligence level no just dey at all |
Mummyfour:He was definitely a good man m'aam. Also took physical fitness very seriously. Created regular time to gym, cycle, play tennis, eat healthily and all even until 70. It's such a surprise he didn't live longer as he was in good health. The mysteries of this life eh. God knows best. |
DonFreshmoney:What a stupid comment! I'm sure Seyi's 70 year old self is far more handsome than you. Emotional intelligence - Zero! |
