Yeancah007,

What we are facing today in Nigeria is not solely the fault of the Hausas/Fulanis.
Every tribe, majority or minority, is a partaker in the looting and economic sabotage that has been the bane of our development.

Every leader we have today is a product of the lootocracy institution established and nurtured by their predecessors whether Fulani, Igbo, Yoruba or the so-called minorities.

Sure Vision 20-20 is a mirage, if we can b number 158 at 2009, It's virtually impossible to be in d top 20 by year 2020, when d list shows that the first 38 countries are even developed countries (very high HDI), Naija has a long, long, way to go. Mayb our leaders should be more realistic intheir goals, How bout a Vision 50-50?
I dont quite agree with the above comment.
Human Development Index is not all about economic development.
Development is a moving target. It is a continous process.

We are all aware that Nigeris's seeming lack of development is a direct result of our pro-corruption disposition. If we can tackle corruption even for one year, Nigeria will leap from 158 to 100.
Our resources- human and natural- is larger than that of more than 30 African countries put together. Our economy can be the same.
PoliticsRe: pictures-Asaba International Airport Project (under Construction) by ThinkRait: 3:09pm On Oct 06, 2009
Considering the length of time and the amount spent in transporting goods from Lagos to the east and also the state of our roads, I think it is a wise decision to build a cargo airport close to the east.

This is the best decision Gov. Uduaghan has taken since he assumed office. If he had spent the large sums of money he wasted on the looting agency called DESOPADEC constructing the airport, Delta State would have had another source of revenue apart from the destructive and cursed black gold.

When the Vanguard publication came out in March, nobody knew Sanusi Lamido would become the CBN governor. So the assertion that the 5 CEOs sponsored the publication cos of the fear of Sanusi does not hold water.

Good write up though. Dayo Coker's opinion.
PoliticsRe: Audit Exercise: 11 More Banks In Need Of Recapitalization by ThinkRait(op): 8:40am On Sep 11, 2009
"Analysts queried the sledgehammer slammed on the five troubled banks' directors, who were collectively alleged to be exposed to over N700 billion bad loans, when the five that were given clean bill were actually assessed to have over N900 billion non-performing loans in their books."

Excerpts from the above link?

My questions
1. Can this be true? If it is, why the rush to deal with just 5?
2. Who are the analysts mentioned above?
3. Can we say Guardian is becoming another Vanguard?
4. If we cant trust aur press, who can we trust?

"The Talented Peter Ololo

Two years ago, one of Okereke’s aides told me about Peter Ololo, whom he simply called “Falcon”. The aide was starry-eyed as he described the powers of this mythical "Falcon", who could effortlessly double the price of First Bank stock within a month. Today, Peter Ololo is in EFCC custody. He owes 88 billion."

The above is a quote from the DayoCoker's insightful write up.

I thought the 5 bank CEOs are facing interrogation for insider abuse, share price manipulation amongst other alleged crimes.

How do we classify the above? Is it manipulation Or an Investment technique?

I think we need to take a look at FirstBank.

PoliticsRe: CNN Ridicules Governor Sylva by ThinkRait: 8:05am On Sep 11, 2009
The project is definitely more than a white elephant project- It is a white dinosaur abi na white mammoth project.

However, the impression I got from the earlier posts was that the governors owns the building. This is simply not true. We cannot say Gov. Fashola owns Eko Atlantic city currently under development neither can we say fmr Gov. Duke owns Tinapa.

This is a case of misplaced priority not of corruption. We should get this right.

Secondly, sjeezy8 should stop seeing wrongs in every action of people of the Niger Delta. No region is free of corruption.
I hate it when every thread turns tribalistic cos of unguarded statements of people like sjeezy8.

Jarus:
Vanguard has the right to do any investigation and come up with any thing. I don't have any problem with that, whether it's true or false. In fact, I'm not ruling out the possibility of the north having any agenda, but what I can put my money on is that Sanusi cannot be a pawn in the northern oligarchs' political chess game. Sanusi is the last person they can use to hatch such idea.
Sanusi doesn't see eye to eye with these northern ruling class before. In fact they were initially against his choice by Yar'adua because he was regarded as being the bad boy of the north and too liberal. He had had clashes with almost everybody that mattered in the north before, from ACF to IBBs to the Emirs and even to Islamic scholars. I even wondered how he combined radical activism with banking job.

Furthermore, in a recent interview, he recalled how he was approached by the northern elites(being one of their top bankers) after consolidation that their bank, Bank of the North(owned by the 19 northern states) had been swept away and he told them 'look, you had no bank, if your bank was good enough, it would have scaled the recapitalization hurdle' summarily telling these northern elites off.

Therefore, I refuse to accept the claim that Sanusi is acting anybody's script. It's like saying somebody like Gani Fawehinmi is acting one Yoruba script.

Mind you, I'm not saying that vanguard article may not have an iota of truth, but what I'm sure of is that Sanusi's actions are absolutely independent of the so-called 'plans' put in that article. Sanusi is doing what he personally feels is the way to go about the mess in the financial system.

On the BusinessDay article, I accept it because it is based on facts and everything Sanusi is saying now have all been said by the newspaper in February 2009.
I know absolutely nothing  (other than what the newspapers says) about what is going on, that is why I would not take a stand for or against.

Sanusi might be acting a script, but if the script is for d good of our Country, I'm in full support.
If this script will take Nigeria seven steps backward, I'll be against it.

Time will tell.

@Jarus,
You cant be too sure of the intentions of anybody. You cant trust anybody with your life.
Objectivity is one habit every well meaning Nigerian should try to cultivate. U are sometimes objective and sometimes subjective. The last two highlighted sections shows an example of this.
U accepted the BusinessDay publication as fact because it supports your point of view. In the case of Vanguard, u used the word 'may'. No be so oh!!

Ibime:
Martin Taylor cannot be blamed for the favela dwellers' mothers' failure to feed him with calcified milk in his development stages.

The tackle which broke his leg had no velocity or malice in it. It was a tackle that physicists refer to as "finding the sweet spot". The variables of physical law and mathematical probability combined so superbly on that fateful day to ensure that the shear stress applied to Eduardos leg snapped that motherphocker to pieces. One would have to take a PHD in statical moments to understand how such a benign tackle could break the resistance of Eduardos tibia.

For this achievement, Martin Taylor has been shortlisted for the Nobel prize for his contribution to physics research. His main rival for the prize is John Arne Riise who proved that with the right force, exerted at the right moment, you can break an opponents leg simply by shooting the ball at him; as he did to Alan Smith.

I've had cause to carry out transactions in many Nigerian Banks. This is my opinion of each of them:

UBA: God help their customers. I closed my UBA account cos of the unprofessional attitude of their staff.
Intercontinental: Not-so-new generation. Crowded halls and hardworking staff. U see stress in their faces.
Union: haba!! u no fit challenge ur papa mate now!! the aging staff never accepts their fault. They have this 'what do u know' attitude.
Unity Bank: Empty banking halls. It'd be better as a microfinance institution.
Diamond: courtseous and professional staffs. Semi-regular IT issues.
Zenith: Beautiful marketers. Non-bankers!
Oceanic: New generation seriously tending to old-generation. over-crowded banking halls.
GTBank: aesthetics. good architectural buildings. Modern. Often faulty ATMS.
SpringBank: I dont think the bank still exists.
FirstBank: oveeeeeer-crowded halls. Mix of old and young staffers. Some bad tempered and some cultured. Always striving to improve.
AfriBank: If not for JAMB,
Wema: I dont think I'd like to step into any of their branches.
FinBank: Dem dey try sha. Only dat the dont have much customers.
Fidelity: they need money to rent bigger halls
Access: I dont know what to say

In fact, I don tire!!!

@ Jarus,

Are you in the office? or u are at home?

If u are in the office, you are committing a crime against your employer?
Do u work for the private sector, or u work for CBN? U cant be working for the public sector cos if u were, u wont be at ur desk at this time.
I guess u work in a company whose owner was listed as a debtor.

I advice u to stop stealing your employer's time.

What happened to the Halliburton Scandal?
Siemens Nko?

Ibori, Igbinedion, Obasanjo, Atiku and all the corrupt politicians walk the streets of Abuja and EFCC cant accost them.

The CBN vs 5 Banks issue has overshadowed the revelations made concerning NNPC and the excess crude fund.

Nigeria we hail thee.
PoliticsRe: Questions For Sanusi Lamido Sanusi by ThinkRait: 3:37pm On Aug 26, 2009
Sanusi Lamido did the right thing in a wrong manner.

I hate propaganda but I've come to discover that nothing works in Nigeria without propaganda.

When CBN completes the audit of the other banks, I'll like to see the results.
Every bank should be assessed using the same parameter. Lamido should publish the debtors list of every bank as at May 31st. Then we'll know who the strong banks really are.

I hate corruption and I hate the direction Nigeria is facing but what I hate most is people who pretend to be saints, whip up sentiments and retire to enjoy themselves while the masses suffer.
