erico2k2:My friend, The house is built because of you, if what you have in that house can jeopardise your safety then the house is not safe, and if it is not safe then it will be pulled down or it will end up consuming the life of the owner. Everything about building is very important, look at this case-- I believed you must have heard that fake sanitary wares had got broken and killed the owner of a house before, you must have heard of wc's that had broken and inflicted serious injury on somebody. What of ordinary floor tiles that are slippery and caused death of lots of families breadwinner. Another case is using a substandard/fake wire/cable to light your house. This will not only pull down the house it will kill everything in that house. I am simply saying lives are in danger because of fake materials. Thumbs up for the Poster but you were too fast to make us know you are posting the topic so that you can make money Next time let's gist about it for a while before you bring out that aspect Is a good marketing strategy but be patient. |
@poster, I feel soo happy when I see people that are thinking and creating solutions like this. Great minds always takes this kind of steps, I WANT TO TELL YOU CATEGORICALLY THAT IT WILL WORK. There is a problem which you are trying to solve go ahead with your research. Just because the stuff is made of aluminium is not enough to throw away such a laudable idea. Don't forget we are in a scientific age where all problems gravitates to a solution, by then somebody will say is an invention. You are not going to be exposed to aluminium straightaway there are millions of ways to reduce heat, and there are thousands of insulating materials you can use also. There are GLASSES THAT ARE STRONGER THAN STEEL it just depends on what you are going to use them for. Just talk to the guy about the issue of heat raised here, and you will be surprised how the guy will laugh at you. Now let come down to Lagos, people are living under bridges, some are living on top of water and some are sleeping in the market, don't forget there are people using CONTAINERS as there house, they are not dead yet. These are the people that you are trying to help and the society at large. This research will help solve the problem of housing in the urban area, infact I have started seeing myself getting one erected in my area and next two years I will only have to dismantle it when more money comes then I can move it to another area of my choice may be adding one or two things to it. REM DMT MOBILE TOILETS ,if you had ever read the guy's story nobody he told believed it will work but what happened? it worked. So my brother if you shelve this idea you have, in five years time somebody will work on it and he will be successful. Don't be discouraged, continue with your research and find ways to solve issues raised and find a way to make it more affordable. IT WILL WORK. |
There are no two buildings that will cost the same, severally I've made it known on this forum that you can't have the right estimate just based on experience only. A lot of factors will have to be considered. but since everyone wants a value that is definitely wrong, I will suggest you consider around N2 million. check my piece on the factors affecting cost of your building. http://www.buildingcontractorsecrets.com/2007/10/factors-that-contributes-to-cost-of.html#links |
Can anybody tells me how many times a webhost server is expected to be down in a year. I am practically running nuts right now. |
thanks. |
People sees painting job as one of the easiest jobs to do, this is not true. To get a quality job done you need to employ a professional painter, you may call him a tradesman, but the job can also be very technical, I only have a peep on it here. visit: http://www.buildingcontractorsecrets.com/2008/06/painting-choosing-colour-and-choosing.html#links |
Are you sure of this. Which Nigerite company did you go to Lagos or Sapele? Asbestos is still in use around your neighbourhood I am very sure of that . |
Please I need an inverter for just one thing, my laptop, so I need a very small and cheap one. In short everything for how much? |
Asbestos causes serious harm to the unsuspecting public. Why? because the effects is noticeable after a long time of being static in human system. And where you don't have good health care system it may be impossible for the local health industry to track the effects to this product. |
The common one used is acoustic suspended mineral fiber ceilling. I will find out more about Dano. |
I know I have promoted Mowe in this forum, but when you are talking of prospects looking at the future with a thirdeye and an enterpreneurial approach Ibeju-Lekki is far way ahead to Mowe. V/I, Ikoyi e.t.c and anything along that road or line will always be in the eyes of big time investors, for now and in time to come (HFP etc) Ibeju-Lekki as you can see is in the same line, While Ibeju-L has rich neighbours you can't say that of Mowe. And when you talk of proximity to big areas, no matter how you see it V/I is bigger to Ikeja in terms of commercial or making money wise. Trends matters Mowe will open up soon no doubt, but the cost of buying land in Ibeju-Lekki will be x4 of Mowe by then. |
Are you planning to start selling them, installing or you want to use them for your house? If you are thinking of business, I think you are in a good one, for sliding doors, i guess you are talking about aluminium stuff, you need to learn how to install them from tradesmen outside, and some combines it with roof installations, as a big guy you can actually go fully into various aluminium products. Some banks cashier cubicles are made of aluminium so there is no shortage of jobs. Suspended ceilling? I am beginning to feel you must have been seeing a lot of construction sites using it, which shows there is a big market also. I think is faster to learn how to install suspended ceillings and make money quickly. And if you are thinking of just selling, you will still do well but you have to do a lot of footwork, go to ongoing sites, introduce your products. There are a lot of reasons why you should watch out for concrete cracks because of the structural importance to building ,just a few dangers of not been careful is written here- http://www.buildingcontractorsecrets.com/2008/06/dangers-of-ignoring-concrete-cracks-in.html |
Many Nigerians errorneously believes that plan gotten from Europe or America will be better than what the Nigerian Architect will give you. There are a lot of reasons not to consider importing one ,some of them are 1)In tropical architecture due to high humidity, designs are done to expel as much heat as possible so that fresh and cool air will be absorbed, hence fenestrations or windows are of high priorities, but in western buildings heat is usually conserved therefore you may find less windows in some buildings. 2)The african man prefers showing off his house ,hence the aesthetic considerations is in the exterior of building while the western people prefers to have more of the aesthetic reflects in the interior of their buildings. 3)Religion also contributes a lot to the type of building your architect will design for you. 4)Culture is deep rooted in the African setting, can you say that of the western world? 5)Sociologically, you can't compare the two worlds side by side and not see a wide difference. 6)Security, if you look at some houses in Europe, they are practically designed for outsiders to view the interior of the buildings , very low walls or no walls at all are used, but what we have here tries to discourage robbers vandalizing our houses. 7)The big gap in technology also makes a lot of difference in the two worlds designs. Cost: It is far more expensive to build a good house in Nigeria/Africa to the ones you have in Europe e.t.c9)Economy: The economy of the countries that constitutes the tropical regions does not give rooms for too much of luxuries. 10)Erratic power supply. 11)Government incentives or Subsidies. 12)Development of traditional styles of building in africa. 13)Lack of maintenance culture. There are a lot of reasons to include a garage if there is enough space on your land. 1)Protection of cars 2)You can use it as a substitute to store tools, sports equipments, boxes e.t.c 3)The large space in your garage can also serve as fitness room. 4)It serves perfectly as home office. 5)It adds to the value of your house. visit-- http://www.buildingcontractorsecrets.com/2008/06/importance-of-garage-in-your-home.html#links |

I wanted to encourage people to build rather than buying outrightly. Unfortunately I have more against building to buying. Read this http://www.buildingcontractorsecrets.com/2008/03/to-build-house-or-to-buy-one-which-is.html#links |
@verycool, The more you earn the more debt you incur unless you are of great financial discipline. Unemployed are the only group of people you can say are debt free. No matter how excellent your salary is, you will still be in debt because the more you earn the more your responsibilities and targets, so before you know it that fat salary is gone b/4 end of the month. Your friends and relatives know you earn more so they will also expect more from you, so what is important is the discipline (ask your banker friends $ oil workers) 2 years saving can go a long way on your building project, you see when you look at a building project from a big man's perspective you will only end up spending what you can easily avoid. The paperwork may not take you much, it depends on your power of negotiation and I believe you know we are only talking of 2-3 bedrm in a location that won't cost you much to erect the building. You may also check this piece http://www.buildingcontractorsecrets.com/2007/10/factors-that-contributes-to-cost-of.html#links Thank you for your contribution .Quite incisive. |
This is the beginning of the construction of your house, this article gives you an insight on what you need to know at the starting of construction. http://www.buildingcontractorsecrets.com/2008/03/setting-out-of-building.html#links |
@verycool, No! that is a wrong impression, you don't need an excellent salary before you build a house but you need to have the will, the determination and the belief that you can do it, then plan for it, you will see yourself building a house out of nothing. Read my piece on building a house with your N10,000 salary http://www.buildingcontractorsecrets.com/2007/10/how-to-build-your-house-from-10000.html#links @ Shinatu, Good question, but a good location does not necessarily mean the high brow areas at present. Simply there is always a trend in development of areas that you can't appreciate at the beginning of there development. Most areas now selling for several millions in Lagos just few years ago people were begged to move to such places with all manner of govt incentives to make them buy properties there. talk of v.i, festac e.t.c the undisputable fast growing area with cheap lands for now is mowe/ofada, property agents are using all manner of schemes and soft loans to get people to acquire lands in these area, same thing happened to festac v.i e.t.c of those days. So just watch out, go and price any land around that area, go back in five years time and write me. I will write on why that area will be very hot soon. @Waserock, Right message very!very! right target, I know a little here. CATCH THEM YOUNG. ![]() |
For young people buying a car is of more priority to them to building a house this article will show you the edge one has over the other. 1 A house appreciates in value while a car depreciates' 2. A house is easier to maintain to car 3. It takes longer time to renovate a house, for a car you have to service at most six months. 4. Your house can last for lifetime 5. @jungle700, You sure needs a lawyer when you are buying a property, C of O or not ,he is between you and the seller and he has a better eye to see any smart moves from either of the parties. He is there to protect you and see to it that nothing goes wrong. So you need one. But I am surprised how people easily runs down others, and exposed their foolishness all in the name of contributing to a forum. http://www.buildingcontractorsecrets.com/bcsprof.htm |

If you allow me I think aluminium roof is still the best over others. Infact advantages in aluminium far outweighs Nigerite products. It is very light, it can span any distance, it doesn't add too much weight on the structure, ease of transportation,e.t.c I had written an article on it's advantages before, check: http://www.buildingcontractorsecrets.com/2007/12/advantages-of-aluminium-roof-to-others.html#links |
