IslamThree Recommendations To Prepare For Ramadan by thirty(op): 3:11pm On Jun 26, 2013
At the end of every Ramadan there is always mixed feelings of loss that the blessed month has ended alongside the joys of the celebration of Eid. Then it gets to Hajj season and six months to the next Ramadan and we start fearing the return of the month of fasting. Rather than looking forward to Ramadan (and its blessings) we start to fear the long days, and the usual things like ‘how will we fast for so long?’, ‘I can’t go to work and fast, it’s just too hard,’ etc. In this article I will look at ways that you can start looking forward to Ramadan with such a passion that you will wish it was tomorrow In sha Allah!

We know that the Sahaba (may Allāh be pleased with them) used to start preparing for Ramadan six months in advance. If you can do that then that’s awesome. However, for many of us with busy lifestyles and the hustle and bustle of life, our priorities are not always right. That doesn’t mean it is too late. There is no doubt that we should be aiming to make the best of every act we do in Ramadan, and preparing for the blessed month will help us in multiple ways.

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said: “Whoever draws near to Allah during it (Ramadan) with a single characteristic from the characteristics of (voluntary) goodness, he is like whoever performs an obligatory act in other times. And whoever performs an obligatory act during it, he is like whoever performed seventy obligatory acts in other times.” [Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah, no. 1887].

Three recommendations to prepare for Ramadan

Voluntary Fasting
Abu Hurairah (may Allāh be pleased with him) reported that the most the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) would fast would be Monday and Thursday. He was asked about that and he said: “On Mondays and Thursday Allah forgives every Muslim except two who have forsaken one another. He says: ‘Leave these two until they reconcile.’” [Ibn Majah].

Not that you need any more reason to do voluntary fasting but what is absolutely amazing is that modern scientific research is showing the benefits of intermittent fasting. Intermittent fasting is basically the scientific name for fasting two days a week, or 3 days a month, or fasting every other day. Each of these are clearly set out within the Islamic tradition and it is wonderful that these practices are now being advocated by non-Muslims.

If you feel that doing a 16-hour fast is too difficult outside Ramadan at this stage, then I suggest you cut down on your food consumption for a few days a month so that you can prepare your body for the food reduction that will take place.

Giving Charity
This isn’t charity-giving in a conventional sense but working out how much you will give and planning it with your family- your spouse, your children, maybe others.
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) when asked which charity is best, “He (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said: Charity in Ramadan.” [Tirmidhi] and Aishah (may Allāh be pleased with her) narrated that “He (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said: ‘Do as much of good deeds as you can, for Allah does not get tired (of giving reward) until you get tired. And the most beloved of deeds to Allah are those that are continuous, even if they are a few.’ [Nasai]

These hadiths remind me that even though we should give charity in Ramadan, rather than being overzealous and giving everything in the first few days or saving it all for the last 10 days of Ramadan, why not work out how much you will give and then split it over the 30 days? For example: My children have £30 to give in charity. Through the ‘charity planning’ meeting we discuss how they will give this out and they usually decide to give £1 a day. They can then give this to any cause they choose and it’s the small consistent act that has powerful impact outside Ramadan. Often they will make charitable donations outside Ramadan because the habit of giving was formed in Ramadan. Alhamdulillah.

The Power of Dua
Many of us know how to make dua but at the same time we have no idea how to ask Allah (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) for the things that we desperately want. We go on year on year, day by day making the same old dua for the same old things. If you want to turbocharge your life this Ramadan, this needs to change. You need to adopt a new dua habit In sha Allah.

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said “The most excellent worship is Du’a.” [Sahih Al-Jami', no. 1133]. And Allah (glorified and exalted be He) tells us in the Qur’an “And your Lord says, ‘Call upon Me; I will respond to you.’ Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible.” [Qur'an: Chapter 40, Verse 60].
So why have we stopped asking Allah (glorified and exalted be He) for what we really want? In preparation for Ramadan I urge you to take some time out and dedicate it to working out what you really want from your life so you can strategically plan your duas this Ramadan. Don’t be shy of Allah (glorified and exalted be He), and don’t ask for a little. His bounty is huge and He can answer all your duas without diminishing his bounty.

Make this year’s dua planning session different to those you have done in the past by writing things down. Work out what it will look like when you have achieved it and also plan a few milestones.

Conclusion
If you are able to do these three things then In sha Allah this Ramadan will change your life. Many times I have read articles like this and then only put one of the recommendations into action or carried on without any change. My suggestion to you, dear reader, is to take a few moments to reflect upon what you just read and think about how you can put this into your life. Remember it is small changes that are needed. There is nothing radical in these suggestions its just the impact is huge especially if you do all three… and I know this from personal experience!

amakenny: While Gov. Okorocha refurbishes Udenwa projects in Owerri, he is destroying the stadium Udenwa built in Orlu without a new one built. All the roads Udenwa built in Orlu are being washed away - no repairs. The Housing units in Okporo which Udenwa could not complete remain uncompleted. Why?

Orlu a city? In what sense? - total sum of a few kilometers of broadened roads with mostly concrete chippings on them getting to about a year now, while similar roads in Owerri and Okigwe are done expressly. Going to two years, people can hardly move from one point to the other in Orlu for absence of roads, no electricity in many areas, bank folded up; population thinning down.
Is this development: widening a road from Orlu centre to St. Joseph Church Umuna - a distance of about 300 meters only - and in the process leaving tens of thousands of families and businesses without electricity for about one year now?

How else can a governor under-develop a town? The scenario above is the truth, not politics. We all dared Ohakim's winning machinery in Orlu and voted for Okorocha.
Mr critics, is there no governor between Gov. Udenwa's tenor and Gov. Okorocha's tenor? Ask them what have they done.
While do you expeect Gov. Okorocha to do all these projets you counted within the little period and fund. Kindly give him more time.

IslamThe Day Of Dajjal: A Story For Every Ummah by thirty(op): 3:18pm On Jun 14, 2013
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, Compassionate[center][/center]

May His peace and blessings be upon His messenger Muhammad, his family, folk, companions, and those who follow him until the end of time.[center][/center]

Dajjal is a person whom the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) described as appearing at the end of time. He is sent by Allah as a trial to people. Dajjal will claim godhood and Allah will allow supernatural acts to occur at his hands, such as bringing back to life those he kills, causing the sky to rain by his command, and the earth to produce vegetation by his command. He will have with him what resembles Paradise and Hell. The one he claims is Paradise is in reality Hell, and the one he claims is Hell is in reality Paradise. He will also have two rivers flowing with him. All of these things will be made to happen for him by the Power and Will of Allah. Whoever follows him will disbelieve and be misfortunate and remorseful. Whoever disbelieves him is the true Believer whom Allah has granted success to be of the felicitous. May Allah make us of those who are granted the success of felicity.
Of the signs of Dajjal is that he is one-eyed, and he will have the letters ك ف ر (k f r : the arabic root letters for disbelief) between his eyes. Every Believer, even if illiterate, will be able to read and recognize the letters. All of these descriptions are found in rigorously authenticated reports from al-Bukhari, Muslim, and others.
Then Allah will make him incapable of these supernatural events, so that he is not able to kill anyone, and his command is no longer executed. Then Prophet Jesus (upon him be peace) will kill him.
Because of the enormity of the trial that Dajjal will put people through, the Prophet (upon him be Allah's peace and blessings) encouraged us to seek refuge in Allah after every prayer from the tribulation of Dajjal. Bukhari and Muslim relate the hadith from Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet said, "After one of you finishes his tashahhud (what is read in the sitting of the prayer [i.e. after he finishes his prayer]) let him seek refuge in Allah from four things: the fire, the torment of the grave, the trials of life and death, and the trial of the Imposter Messiah, the Dajjal.
Bukhari and Muslim also relate from Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (may Allah send His peace and blessings upon him) said, "Whoever memorizes the first ten verses of Surat al-Kahf shall be protected from Dajjal," and in another version of the hadith he mentioned the last ten verses. Imam al-Nawawi says in Sharh Muslim, "It is said the reason for this [i.e. benefit of memorizing the mentioned verses of al-Kahf] is that its beginning contains wondrous events and signs. He who reflects on their meaning will not suffer the trial of Dajjal. Its final verses, beginning from, 'Do those who disbelieve...,' are similar [in what they contain]."
Al-Nawawi mentions the words of the prominent Imam al-Qadi `Iyad al-Maliki from his The Tenets of Faith of Ahl al-Sunnah, "These hadith which Muslim and others relate regarding the story of Dajjal are a proof of his reality for the way of those of truth. He is a particular person whom Allah sends as a trial to His slaves. Allah gives him the power to do things, and they are only from His powers... This is the way of Ahl al-Sunnah, the Scholars of Hadith and Jurisprudence, and their like."

How the muslims prepare for the days of Dajjal?

CareerWorld Bank Initiative To Facilitate Ican’s Global Membership by thirty(op): 2:53pm On Jun 14, 2013
The Financial deal entered into by World Bank and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, mother body of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) will fast track its global member status.

In his speech during his investiture as the 49th ICAN President, in Lagos, Alhaji Kabir Mohammed, who disclosed this said “One critical issue that has continued to confront young members of the Institute is the prospect of labour mobility.

Indeed, failure of past effort, at signing reciprocal relationship with some International Federation of Accountants member-bodies has been the subject of serious engagements between the Institute and the World Bank. Through a World Bank-financed twinning arrangement with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, the very Institute that gave birth to ICAN, this huddle will soon be surmounted.

“To achieve this, the Institute’s syllabus, training manuals and certification processes, are being comprehensively reviewed and examinations under the new syllabus are due to start with the November 2014 diet. Products of the new syllabus will write only the tax and law papers of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales examinations and become members of that revered global body.

“In anticipation of this, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, UK, has offered to grant direct admission to ICAN members, subject to their writing one paper in its final qualifying examinations. In view of the expected benefits, the Council under my leadership will ensure scrupulous implementation, of the various components of the World Bank initiative. We will build technical capacity within the Secretariat to sustain the gains of the above initiative.”

Also, he added that members who qualify through the ATS platform are discriminated against in the market place, in spite of their acknowledged expertise, and proven skills as middle level manpower.

To this end, he said, “The Council under my leadership will address and permanently resolve this issue. Following the discussions and effective contacts made early in the year with University Utara, Malaysia, one of the top eight universities out of 50 in that country, very soon, an MoU will be signed by ICAN with the leadership of the University Utara, in order to give effect to the arrangement.

As envisaged, holders of only ACA who desire to pursue academic master degree by course work, or research, can also do so directly, with their qualifications at the university, some members of the institute are already enjoying this concession.” Meanwhile, he expressed disappointment over members’ unwillingness to pay their subscriptions, saying that some blame it on the current economic challenges facing everybody.

Music/RadioFatai Rolling Dollar Is Dead by thirty(op): 4:34pm On Jun 12, 2013
Highlife music veteran, Fatai Rolling Dollar is dead at 85. The octogenarian passed on this morning at Ahmadiyya Hospital in Abule Egba, Lagos, southwest Nigeria. He was rushed to the hospital by his wife about a week ago.

Kunle Tejuosho, whose label, Jazzhole Records, brought out ‘Won Kere Si Number Wa’ among other albums, confirmed his death. He said the deceased came back from America some weeks ago where he had gone for shows for about three weeks.

Tejuosho in his tribute, said: “Baba was a great Musician. He lived life of a music. He was always happy to perform. May be he took too much on.

“He was a good guy. He enjoyed his life. He had a second chance which he used very well.

“He would be missed because he brought the past alive to the present. He re-lived the music of the 50s. He was a great music historian and a great music custodian.”

Yomi Opakunle, his former manager, also confirmed the death. He however said the deceased may be buried today.

Rolling Dollar was known for his verve and dexterity on the guitar. His zest for life and energy, even in old age, was also a marvel to all who beheld him while performing.

After decades of struggling to make ends meet and musical doldrums, Rolling Dollar got a new lease of life after the French Cultural Centre brought him back into public consciousness.

He later got a higher lift through Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while as Lagos State governor.

The late musician was given a house in one of the low cost housing estates in New Oko Oba, Lagos.

Juju music legend, Ebenezer Obey was among those trained by the late musician.

As a pioneer Juju music player, Rolling Dollar clarified in an interview how juju music derived its name.

“It was derived from the tambourine which is one of the key instruments used to play it. When they play it on the street they would shout ‘Ju so ke’. They would then throw the tambourine up and shake it. … shukushuku. That was how juju got its name and not from bad medicine and all that. Even though in Saro land the word was taken to mean bad medicine. But here in Lagos our juju meant music. In juju then, we had the guitar, agidigbo, samba, sekere and at times we used the bottle to give us that clave sound. In fact, white people invented the clave from our bottle sound. That is where they got the idea for it,” he said.

He was born on 22 July, 1926, in Ede, Osun State. He is survived by wives and many children.

My advice to all governors of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is move from age infrastructurer development to human capital development and public enlightment on the best way to use these infrastrucures. Let us have more industries and pay more attention to qualitative education. Our numerous natural resourses need our attention to create company that will tap those resources. This will reduce poverty, unemploment and increase Internal generated revenue of our various state. If the governors can't do it, let both the past and present senators float a company in their senatorial areas. Dont always shout for foreign investor or small enterprenours.
