PoliticsPresidency Reacts To Jonathan's Claim That "More Corruption In The Country Compa by thisweekng(op): 9:13pm On Nov 22, 2018
Presidency Reacts To Jonathan's Claim That "More Corruption In The Country Compared To When He Left Office"

The Presidency rejects former president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan’s astonishing claim, to the utter surprise of many, that there is more corruption in the country compared to when he left office. This is absolutely untrue. The facts on the ground today run contrary to his outlandish claim.

President Muhammadu Buhari, in pursuit of the war against corruption, has set a number of local and international records, one of which is to call judicial officers in Nigeria to account. He is the first to set such a record. Not only that, this is the first time that top military commanders and Service Chiefs are brought to trial and convictions were achieved on account of corruption.

Also, this is the first time a ruling party is convicting high profile citizens including former governors, who are members of same party. This is the first time the international community is acknowledging the efforts of a government of Nigeria in this regard as manifested by the selection of President Buhari by the African Union as the Anti-Corruption Champion of the continent.

For the records, this is the first time a ruling party is investigating ranking officers of the administration, including some at the very top.

In addition to the many firsts recorded by President Buhari’s administration, the government has introduced a lot of changes, considering that the laws relating to the fight against corruption cannot reasonably be static.

In line with its aspiration to be ahead of the growing sophistication of corruption and financial crimes, the administration has initiated new legislations and proposed amendments to different sections of laws, among which are:

• The Money Laundering Prevention and Prohibition Bill 2017;

• Anti-Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Bill 2017;

• Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit Bill 2017 (NFIU);

• Proceeds of Crime Bill 2017;

• Public Interest Disclosure and Witness Protection Bill, 2017 and

• The Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Bill, 2017.

Owing to these efforts and support all of relevant stakeholders, NFIU Act has been passed and President Buhari gave his assent on July 18, 2018. The administration is currently working with the legislature for an expedited passage of the Proceeds of Crimes Bill to make the anti-corruption war more effective.

Nigerians should dismiss Dr. Jonathan’s hollow boast that he, not President Buhari, introduced schemes such the Biometric Verification Number, VBN, Treasury Single Account, TSA and the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPS). Of what use is the announcement of good policies without the will to implement them?

Since President Buhari assumed office, Nigerians are witnesses to the huge success recorded through the implementation of the TSA where some government agencies that had over the years remitted peanut amounts or nothing at all are now periodically pumping billions into government coffers. Prominent among these remittances include the ones made by Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Nigeria Customers Service (NCS) and Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

While it is also true that the BVN was introduced in 2014 to ensure that all bank accounts have biometric identification of their owners, the lack of will and capacity under Dr Jonathan stalled implementation. Today, BVN covers nearly all bank accounts. There are still some individuals who have shielded their identity and are now afraid of enrolling on the BVN platform as this will expose them and their corrupt actions. The law is going after them.

President Buhari’s administration introduced the whistle-blower policy as a veritable tool against corruption as it gives individuals an opportunity to expose corruption, fraud, bribery, looted government funds, financial misconducts, government assets and any other form of corruption or theft. Within six months of introducing this policy, over 5,000 reports were made through various channels, 365 actionable tips were received out of the 5000 reports. So far more than N200bn has been recovered.

As the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), said on Thursday, the former President does not have the facts to claim that there was any serious effort on the part of his administration to fight corruption.

As at 29th May 2015, when this administration came into office, the EFCC recovery account had only N19.5 billion as revealed by the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General. After one year of the new anti-corruption drive by the Buhari administration, this figure had gone up to N279 billion, and since then a lot more has been recovered.

Finally, as evidenced from a fleeting look at the book, the former President had nothing to say about his own achievements. If there was a recession, and yes we had a moment in it, was it due to one year of President Buhari’s government?

In his efforts to blame everyone but himself for his failures, Dr Jonathan heaped the blame for the predictable economic recession on President Buhari, ignoring the seeds sown under him through mismanagement and the process set in firm roots for the decline of the economy. Evidently, he did nothing to avert the situation.

As we have explained over and over, the recession in 2016 was caused by years of mismanagement and corruption. In the 16 years of PDP and earlier than that, the country solely relied on oil, the price of which was as high as 140 USD per barrel under their watch. Government simply reticulated oil revenue through personal spending by corrupt leaders, wasteful expenses and salaries; rather than investing in what would grow the economy. There was no investment in infrastructure as President Buhari is now doing in seaports, airports, power plants, railways, roads and housing.

The oil windfall for the country was mismanaged, and Nigeria’s greatest opportunity for growth was turned into a tragedy. More worrisome, there were no savings. And to compound the problem and compromise growth of the economy, the previous government borrowed heavily, owed contractors and international oil companies. When President Buhari came into power in 2015, the country had accumulated debt, which took it back to the level it was before the Paris Club Debt forgiveness. Nigeria did not have fiscal buffers to withstand an oil shock when oil prices fell to as low as 28 USD.

The oil shock should and could have been foreseen. When visionary Nigerians and economists foresaw this and warned of the dangers ahead, Dr Jonathan hounded such men as the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi 11 and Professor Chukwuma Soludo. Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, under Dr Jonathan’s administration also warned and she was rebuffed.

The former President and his party have nothing to say about achievements. They ruled the country for 16 years and what is their record on jobs, power, rail, seaports, airports and internal security, including the crippling disaster of terrorism?

The Independent Electoral Commission INEC has debunk the rumour going round online that another opportunity for registering for PVC have be slated from 2nd of December to 10th December.

When we contacted the commission on the authenticity of the news, via their twitter handle, they have this to say,"Information reaching the Commission that some persons have been circulating messages online that “INEC HAS GIVING ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY TO REGISTER FOR YOUR PVC, STARTING ON THE 2ND TO 10TH DECEMBER 2018”. The report is untrue and we advise the public to ignore it."

PoliticsThe Naira Eventually Crashed And Nigeria Became The Poverty Capital Of The World by thisweekng(op): 10:14am On Nov 22, 2018
I have toned down my posts here for obvious reasons, most people here are only involved in political propaganda and I am not ready to argue with such people, it is sheer waste of energy, time and neurotransmitters in my brain.

Their dream is different, mine is to see Nigeria succeed.

There is a video of Peter Obi online, where he analyzed the profligacy of the past administration and the resultant effects on our economy. The anti-Buhari guys have refused to acknowledge Peter Obi's honest opinion.

yet they continue to scream that Buhari destroyed the economy. Okonjo Iweala also wrote about the wastefulness it in her book, they shunned it. What useless economy? What nonsense economy? nation of 180m people who spends billions to import food, depend on oil..

imports toothpick and handkerchiefs, imports okrika clothes and palm oil. A country that imports and consumes every single item in the world. Oil prices crashed to $28 per barrel, with a reserve of $29bn that could hardly finance one month of import, what were we expecting?

Tea party? Egypt, Angola, Algeria, Tunisia, Argentina and Venezuela got caught up in the mess, all of them ran to IMF, devalued their currencies, suffered massive inflation and hardship. PMB/PYO / Kemi Adeosun / Emefiele and his team struggled to manage the situation..

stimulate local production, plugged loopholes, recovered looted funds, removed ghost workers and continued to grind despite low oil prices. The man held on to the naira, he didn't want to devalue it due to the ripple effect on the economy especially petroleum products.

The naira eventually crashed and we got hit by the effects of devaluation. Who ever said we weren't going to suffer for years of wastefulness and oil price slump is a complete dullard. Oh Nigeria became the poverty capital of the world, yes we totally deserve it.

Oh Nigeria became the poverty capital of the world, yes we totally deserve it. What did we do in 16 years to avoid the inglorious crown?

Nigeria came out of recession maybe faster than everyone else except Egypt who took billions of IMF loans.

The FG despite the recession only borrowed to fund critical infrastructure, they did not downsize, they did not borrow to fund salaries rather they have continued to bail out states, built our reserve from $29bn to $41bn.

Asides all these, they govt had little left to run some social intervention programs, programs that were not implemented when we had surplus funds. Pensions backlog also cleared during these tough times. Inflation has been on a downward trend for 18 consecutive months

exports improving gradually, appreciable increase in revenue, Agric picking up steadily but we still have a lot to do to feed 200m citizens. Completed projects, contractors back to site, rail, roads, power and other critical infrastructures all within 2-3 years.

I am not making excuses, as a learned person, I am just wondering what the grouse is exactly. Security, maybe, it could have been better..what else? Please name any company or firm in any critical sector of the economy that did not make huge profits in 2017/2018.

Shoprite just announced a 43% increase in revenue, jobs are coming back, businesses booming again. I can list 1bn dollar worth of foreign investments that have come into the country in the past 24 months, Google is your friend e no go ask you for money!

Was Atiku not VP when Michelin, dunlop Unilever and other factories closed down and ran to Ghana? What exactly are you ranting about? All the churches that bought warehouses in Oregon and Oba akran, what year were these properties acquired mostly by churches?

Have you questioned your Governors? What exactly is your grouse? We all saw it coming, Peter Obi saw it, okonjo Iweala saw it, Sanusi saw it coming.

Support your candidate but don't assume we are fools. There is no magician anywhere and Nigeria will not become an Eldorado in 3 years. 3m Jobs will not come out of anywhere. We laid a poor foundation for donkey's years and now we have to work. No propaganda will stop it..
We are moving by God's grace to the #NextLevel

“That line has a lot of political, social and economic advantage as it can open many opportunities. I request that the Senate to bring the Minister of transport to answer these questions.”- Senator @ShehuSani

“I remember following these lines as a young boy, that part of this country is very stressful. Everything about the railway lines will improve the Nigerian economy as a whole. This is a matter of great interest to all Nigerians.”- Senator James Manager

“The problem is that there is only rehabilitation and not modernization. What is given to other parts of Nigeria should also be given to the Eastern part.”- Senator Ahmad Lawan.
“Mr. President has said that every capital in Nigeria should be linked to a railway line. Let us ensure this is done.”- Senator Ahmad Lawan.

“We have the Police Reform Bill that will address some of the issues because I think the institutional issues need to be addressed to solve medium and long term problems; they are clearly issues of manpower, training, equipment and funding.”- Senate President, @bukolasaraki

PoliticsBuhari Has Killed The Economy, Creates Unemployment by thisweekng(op): 8:35pm On Nov 18, 2018
Nigerians fancy empty barrels. That's why a non-talkative president wont impress us. As a privileged info, i can tell one of Nigeria's new cement plant has just attained incredible commissioning milestone, with an unprecedented posture to employ 486.

Left to me, d jobs should only go to PMB supporters. Others can go & meet Atiku or better still wait until he's president on his second return to life, if reincarnation is true. PDP knew its brand is accidented, and was planning to rebrand b4 it realized some of u prefer looters.

Before 2015, cement makers were dying. Lafarge inherited $88Mn of 3rd party foreign debt when it acquired UNICEM in 2015. In an economy that Buhari killed, Lafarge's right issue in 2017 raked in equivalent of $415Mn, rounding off as single largest right issue recapitalization.

As mediocres tell you that the size of fish inside sardine has reduced under Buhari, let those who are serious minded take note that:
Lafarge opened its $427Million unicem plant.
Ibeto Nigerchem started and got $850Million funding from US - $500Mn in equity, and $350Mn debt.

When Nigerians want to shift blames for personal congenital ineptitude, they direct it at imaginary problems Buhari created. Always ask people attributing job losses to Buhari to list the companies where people lost these jobs and numbers affected.

After FG approved in May, 2018 that we can enlist a PMI to get mortgage of N5Million at 6% pa, with zero equity contribution, some Nigerians, out of sheer stupidity are still obtaining banks' mortgage loan at 28% pa. Let's blame Buhari, If we start defaulting on the 28% loans.

A handle here that i dont know from Adams sent me CV in January, which i forwarded to a friend. After he failed Kellogg's test that a school cert holder can pass, he's back on twitter calling Buhari lifeless. Over 400 graduates have resumed work in the company after he failed.

God forgive me; I study Nairametrics more than i study bible. @Nairametrics documented loads of ground breaking corporate deals Nigeria recorded in an economy that Buhari killed. Unlike when gamblers FDI flood our oil & gas sector, venture capitalists now look at our real sector.
Yudala acquired Konga and Yes Mobile.
Sinotruk started its $100 Million assembly plant.
Beloxxxi Cream Crackers got $80Million equity investment.
Wall street went berserk when Coca-Cola acquired 40% of Chi Ltd, makers of Chivita, a company valued at $1Billion.
Go to @Nairametrics and read yourself. I won't like to bore you. I didn't talk about Telcos and banking. The oil and gas transactions brokered this year are breathtaking. For jobs, if you know people in Schlumberger, go and sit on their neck now, now. I won't say more than that.

After we read news headlines about unemployment, hardly did we read details to understand that d main underlying factor is the growing number of productive people who finish school or vocational training without a job. The only people who lost jobs under Buhari are ghost workers.

2016- Police recruited 8,500 2017- Immigration recruited 1,112 2018- Unity Schools employs 870 2018- Road Safety tested, and is screening 4,650 without anybody dying at Abuja Stadium. 35,640 real Nigerians have replaced PDP ghost workers without a dime collected for recruitment.

ATIKU'S FAILED BUSINESSES
I can confidently state with facts that most of ATIKU's businesses that doesn't have lien on the nation's treasury, like Prodeco & Intel aren't doing well. He has refused to sell Adama Beverages, makers of Faro Water & Juice, but wants to sell NNPC.

He wants to use inflation to attract FDI, whereas his un-achieved dream is to sell NNPC to INTEL. Atiku's Adama Beverages Limited made N3.8Billion turnover in 2015, & N4.6Billion in 2016, while Buhari was fighting Boko haram in Yola. The company yet declared loss to dodge tax.

Where were you when Nestle's $11.4Million Milo RTD plant, and International Breweries $250Million fourth production line in Sagamu opened and started operations this year? @MBuhari @ProfOsinbajo has only killed the economy of looters. Its time for those who have sense to prosper.

Kwara State By-Election Was Held Under Charged, Tensed And Militarized Conditions --- Bukola Saraki Laments

Senator Bukola Saraki has lamented over the militarized condition the Kwara State by election was held.
He said that the by election was between the PDP and security agents plus APC and that this is the first time elections in Kwara State will be held under such charged, tensed and militarized conditions

According to his tweet, he said,"We thank the people of Ekiti/Oke Ero/Isin/Irepodun who came out to vote today — defying the heavy intimidation and the siege laid by the security agents and thugs invited into the 4 LGAs by the APC"

"The public should note that today’s #KwaraByElection was simply between PDP and security agents plus APC. This was due to the heavy deployment of police, soldiers and other security agents who gathered to support APC and harass PDP leaders and supoorters."

"This is the first time that elections in Kwara State will be held under such charged, tensed and militarised conditions. We had INEC officials complaining about their own safety — and PDP supporters were brazenly intimidated, which resulted in low turn out of voters."

"It is important to reiterate that ahead of the 2019 elections, such open displays of intimidation are sending wrong signals. Our democracy is being undermined with this misuse of our nation’s security apparatus."

PDP cautions El- Rufia for over what they termed unguarded comment on Peter Obi As El-Rufai fires back

The People's Democratic Party PDP, has cautioned the Kaduna State Governor Nasir El- Rufai for calling the PDP Vice Presidential candidate a tribal bigot.

In a tweet, El- Rufai said" Peter Obi is a tribal bigot. He was widely quoted on national television that the SSS was right to detain me for 48 hours in an hotel in 2014 on the grounds that ”El-Rufai has no business being in Anambra State as it is not Katsina State”! I sued the SSS and awarded N4m damages."

In reaction to that, PDP warned El- Rufai via their twitter handle @OfficialPDPNig. saying that "On Our VP Candidate Peter Gregory Obi: We caution the Kaduna State Governor, El-Rufaii, over his unguarded comment, wherein he referred to our Vice Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as a tribal bigot. Our Vice Presidential Candidate, Peter Gregory Obi Chief Peter Obi is well known for his nationalist disposition and cannot in anyway be associated with tribal bigotry.

We therefore advices El-Rufai to face the myriad of problems he has caused in Kaduna state for which the people have resolved to vote him out and stop his attempt to further foul the nation’s political space by making comments capable of stoking religious and ethnic division

Governor El- Rufai should not attempt to export the kind of inciting and inflammatory statements that have led to conflagration and bloodletting in his Kaduna state to our national political firmament.

Gov El-Rufai comment, Nigerians now know those behind the series of smear campaigns and spurious allegations against our Presidential candidate, Atiku and his running mate, Peter Gregory Ob

Instead of fixating on our party and the soaring popularity of our Presidential candidate, Atiku we expect El-Rufai to show remorse that he was part of those who brought in the Buhari administration, which has inflicted so much pain on Nigerians in the last 3 and 1/2;years."

In a swift reaction to that, El-Rufai took to his twitter to fire back at the PDP saying that"I never respond to cluelessness, compounded by bad English. There isn’t a single thinking brain left in PDP....sad, only Wendell Simlins and their sort......sigh! We will meet first on February 16, 2019 - my birthday by the way..... then March 2 in sha Allah - Goodbye.....- Nasir"
