Politics › ‘Too Many Lies’ – Amaechi Slams Ex-npa Boss, Hadiza Usman, Makes Fresh Claims by Thonyboy(op): 8:17am On Oct 27, 2023 |
Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has slammed the immediate past Managing Director of the Nigeria Ports Authority, (NPA), Hadiza Usman of documenting false narrative in her book titled: “Stepping on Toes: My Odyssey at the Nigerian Ports Authority.”
Amaechi spoke as the guest speaker at the 2023 TheNiche Annual Lecture themed “Why We Stride and Slip: Leadership, Nationalism, and the Nigerian Condition,” held on Thursday in Lagos.
.ng reports that former President Muhammadu Buhari had suspended Hadiza Bala Usman as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) after complaints from the then Minister of Transport, Amaechi.
Buhari then sacked and replaced her with Mohammed Bello-Koko as the feud between her and Amaechi grew stronger.
“There is a huge debate in the past six months whether I should respond or not. I said I would respond today but 90 percent said I should not,” Amaechi said.
“The lies were too many. For instance, she claimed she was not invited by the panel. I even came with the memo of the president, where the president endorsed her removal.
“Count one is in the question of the fact that the panel says she is guilty; count two is due to the fact that a Managing Director of NPA with N2.5m approval limit can approve N2.8b contract with no appropriation.
“Why is that document not published because prominent Nigerians are involved. She gave waivers to prominent Nigerians, which she has no power to give and these are dollars accruable to Nigeria’s economy but she was bold to write a book or is it a pamphlet and Nigerians are following her, launching the book, so how will Nigeria move forward?
“But let’s wait until they bring the original copy because if I give you the photocopy, you will say it is fake. I will show you the original but I won’t allow you to read it because you would see the names of those prominent Nigerians that were indicted by the panel. I will rather read the areas that concern her and leave those prominent Nigerians, they didn’t look for my trouble.
“But to show you how bad the situation was for me as the Minister of Transport, the Federal Executive Council, FEC, the President and Vice President, including the Minister of Transport will approve an agreement for Lekki Deep Sea Port, the MD of NPA will change it and when queried, she will say for national interest, so we are for Biafra interest?” He asked.
Also, Hadiza had claimed in the book that Amaechi was angry because she did not buy him a birthday gift.
Amaechi added: “She gave me a lot of birthday presents, from the time I met her to when I became a Minister. When I became a minister, the last birthday present she gave me was a big returnee bag. So I said no, that I am now a minister. You are now my subordinate, but she lied. Would you believe that somebody who worked under me from 2013 will not give a birthday present?” https://.ng/2023/10/27/too-many-lies-amaechi-slams-ex-npa-boss-hadiza-usman-makes-fresh-claims/

Politics › $3 Trillion Nigeria’s Infrastructure Deficit Better Funded Locally – Shettima by Thonyboy(op): 10:00am On Oct 26, 2023 |
The Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima has said that local stakeholders can better fund the country’s $3tn infrastructure investment deficit rather than foreign borrowings.
Shettima disclosed this on Wednesday at the opening ceremony of the third West Africa Capital Market Conference with the theme, ‘Infrastructural Deficit and Sustainable Financing in an Integrated West African Capital Market’ held in Lagos.
Shettima, who was represented by Dr Tope Fasua, his Special Adviser on Economic Affairs, said that the infrastructural deficit in the West African sub-region means that the capital markets must improve their operations.
“The centrality of capital markets to Nigeria’s development trajectory, especially to the evolution of our corporate sector, our industries and perhaps most importantly, our infrastructural development, cannot be overemphasised.
“Just two days ago, on Monday, 23rd of October, 2023, at the opening of the 29th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Economic Summit, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu sought the cooperation and intervention of Nigeria’s private sector – and specifically the capital market – toward the funding of Nigeria’s $3 trillion infrastructure gap, which he said should not require 300 years to cover – as propounded in some texts – but ten years.
“If this is so for Nigeria, it presupposes that the entire region has similar – or perhaps larger – infrastructural deficits waiting to be filled. They are better filled from the inside, not through foreign borrowing alone,” he said.
The federal government had fixed a 10-year timeline to address its infrastructural gap.
Recall that the African Development Bank (AfDB) stressed that Nigeria needs $3 trillion in Infrastructure Investment. https://.ng/2023/10/26/3tn-nigerias-infrastructure-deficit-better-funded-locally-shettima/

Politics › President Tinubu Urges Town Planners To Mitigate Effects Of Climate Change by Thonyboy(op): 6:46am On Oct 25, 2023 |
President Bola Tinubu and the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, have called on town planners to mitigate the effects of climate change on the people.
They spoke separately on Tuesday in Asaba at the 54th National Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, asking them to ensure effective planning of towns and cities.
Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Housing and Urban Renewal, Architect Ahmed Dangiwa, said: “I am convinced that effective town planning remains an important tool in our effort as a government to contain and mitigate the challenges of climate change.”
The President noted: “Climate change is no longer a distant threat; it is a stark reality that confronts us every year and every day; the rising temperature, the table water patterns and more frequently severe floods around the world have become the norm rather than the exception.”
Governor Oborevwori, in his address read by Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, urged town planning officials and regulatory bodies to “ensure strict compliance with town planning and urban development laws to avoid the unpleasant task of demolishing buildings on waterways and drainage channels.”
He stressed the imperative to avoid situations where governments are forced to demolish buildings on waterways and drainage channels, with all the negative implications that such action portends for the economy.
“Our government is fully aware of its responsibilities to Deltans and we are facing them squarely by making our built environment more climate-resistant,” he noted.
Earlier, the National President of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), Mr Nathaniel Atebije, said the conference, held at the Asaba Event Centre, would provide a platform to interrogate the challenges of climate change, flood resilience, and ways to provide mitigation measures. He emphasised that Delta, being a coastal state, would benefit from the programme.
Atebije enjoined the state government to meaningfully engage certified town planners in the Ministry of Urban Renewal in the implementation of the master plan of towns and cities across the state.
Wondering why the Federal Government is delaying the creation of the office of the Town Planner-General, Atebije said: “Utilisation of town planners is not enough; unfortunately, people don’t value them. They are not fully utilised, despite the fact that they are not sufficient. Before, the ratio of town planners was one to 3,000; today, the ratio is one to 200,000 people.” https://.ng/2023/10/25/tinubu-urges-town-planners-to-mitigate-effects-of-climate-change/

Politics › You Can’t Move Nigeria Forward Despite Largest Cabinet – Atiku’s Aide To Tinubu by Thonyboy(op): 1:30pm On Oct 20, 2023 |
Daniel Bwala, a former aide to the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has slammed President Bola Tinubu for constituting a large government. He accused Tinubu of constituting the largest cabinet and bloated government in Nigeria’s history. He pointed out that the president has failed to move the country forward despite his large government and influence of human rights advocates. Posting on X, Bwala said the country can’t move forward when Tinubu is not working to unify the country. According to him, Tinubu’s appointments are nepotism-based. He wrote: “Largest cabinet since the inception of the Republic; Bloated government since the return of democracy; Largest media aids to the point of superimposition of roles; @officialABAT arguably influenced the media careers of 60 percent of journalists in the country, 40 percent of human right advocates and CSO founders; heck he even owns a TV house and a newspaper company; YET the optics aren’t good and the narrative can’t be changed. “Do you know why? Politics › Reps Seek Appointment Of 9 New Justices Of Supreme Court by Thonyboy(op): 6:22am On Oct 20, 2023 |
The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government to appoint nine new justices to the Supreme Court to expedite the hearing and determination of matters for effective and efficient justice delivery in the country
The resolution followed the adoption of a motion of urgent national importance by Patrick Umoh (PDP, Akwa-Ibom) during a plenary in Abuja on Thursday.
In his motion, he stated that the current number of justices of the apex court had dropped to an all-time low of 11 justices, making it 10 short of its full complement of 21 justices as stipulated by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He said the Supreme Court’s docket is full for the year 2023, as parties could not have hearing dates for matters filed within the year, except in election petitions.
This, according to him, is due to the considerable volume of matters pending before the court.
He expressed concern that the non-appointment of new justices to the Supreme Court had stalled expeditious, effective, and efficient justice delivery and impeded transactions and economic development.
Umoh further said that it had also limited citizens’ access to justice and put the current justices of the court under immense mental and physical pressure. This situation, he pointed out, has affected the policy-making function of the court.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for his promise to promote the rule of law and support the judiciary.
He also lauded the president for signing into law the constitutional alteration unifying the retirement age and pension benefits of the judicial officers.
The House, while adopting the motion, mandated its Committee on Federal Judiciary to ensure compliance with the resolution. https://.ng/2023/10/20/reps-seek-appointment-of-9-new-justices-of-supreme-court/

Politics › Why Governor Akeredolu Is Working From Ibadan – Ondo Government by Thonyboy(op): 6:37am On Oct 18, 2023 |
Doyin Odebowale, the Special Adviser on Special Duty and Strategy to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, has said that his principal is not working from the capital, Akure, due to accommodation challenges.
Odebowale said this in an interview with Channels Television on Tuesday.
Akeredolu has been absent from the state since his return from a medical vacation abroad.
The Ondo leader has been working from Ibadan, Oyo State and the move has caused ripples within the state, with the youths of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday, issuing an ultimatum to the governor to return.
Odebowale said due to Governor Akeredolu‘s state of health, he needed a better apartment to carry out his task of marshalling the affairs of the South-West state.
“Aketi came back in September. Where he used to stay – the Presidential Lodge built for the visiting president at that time Olusegun Obasanjo – is a two-bedroom apartment,” he said on the show.
“Now, he is back. He cannot occupy that place again. The Old Governor’s Office – the Governor’s Lodge built by the previous administration is now the office of the investment outlet called the ODIPA. That’s the office,” the governor’s aide added.
“So, the governor has been managing a two-bedroom apartment for six years. But his current state of health would not permit him to pretend that all is well.
“He would need all the things for him to recover properly. That’s why the new place that is being arranged for him is almost completed.
“When they say they want to see Aketi, do they want to see him at the site so that he would be carrying cement or following workmen?
“What exactly? The civil servants have been paid all their salaries. Aketi has been signing laws since he came back,” he maintained.

Politics › Why FG Will Not Refund Ogun Govt For Rebuilding Abeokuta-Ota Expressway – Umahi by Thonyboy(op): 8:32am On Oct 17, 2023 |
A request by the Ogun State government to rebuild the Abeokuta-Ota Expressway has been approved by the Federal Government.
Minister of Works, Dave Umahi made this known on Monday.
Umahi, however, explained that no refund would be made to the state since it would recoup money spent through tolling.
He also announced that a coastal road to be built by the government across four states would be executed in two phases.
The minister stated this while briefing reporters after yesterday’s FEC meeting in Abuja.
Umahi said: “Today we presented a memo on an inherited scope of road infrastructure from the past administration and the total length of the roads we inherited and bridges are 18,897 kilometers.
“We also brought to the notice of FEC that a number of projects were awarded, some lasting up to 20 years back, abandoned, ongoing with no proper funding. There are also some new critical roads totaling 12,000 kilometres and 24 bridges.
“FEC was also informed on the ongoing projects and to mitigate so much inflation and variation of the projects, to have some of the projects that have attended completion to be redesigned on concrete and going forward for new projects to be done on concrete.
“FEC approved that most of the ongoing projects should be designed on concrete pavements depending on the level of completion and if you’re doing asphalt, there are also conditions for that.
“FEC also approved the coastal road running from Phase One which will run from Lagos to Port Harcourt to Calabar. Phase two will run from Sokoto to Ogoja. It was approved to be done on EBC + F, that is Engineering Procurement and Construction plus Financing.
“And eight roads that were started by the past administration for a concession that have gone through all the processes were also approved. The financial closure will be reached in the month of November.
“There were nine actually but one was pulled out that is Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta and that has been given to the Ogun State government based on their request that they should do the road on their own and they will follow the HDMI that is Hardware Development Management Initiative.
“No refunds for that but they will do it and toll it. And new 25 roads were also approved for concession, which takes a very long time on the PPP model.
“Lastly, the PPP for Ijora Park in Lagos. It was approved that it should be done on PPP. And it was won by Beta Nigeria Ltd, which was actually started by the last administration.
“The consultancy for NNPC and FIRS who oversee the projects funded by them was also approved today.” https://.ng/2023/10/17/why-fg-will-not-refund-ogun-govt-for-rebuilding-abeokuta-ota-expressway-umahi/

Politics › Nasarawa Tribunal Judgment: PDP Condemns Ganduje’s Comments by Thonyboy(op): 4:49pm On Oct 16, 2023 |
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nasarawa State chapter, has condemned the recent statement credited to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Ganduje, asserting that the party will do everything within its powers to protect the mandate of the State Governor, Abdullahi Sule.
The Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Nasarawa State had sack Sule, after the PDP candidate, David Ombugadu, dragged him to court, challenging his victory in the March 18, 2023 governorship election in the state.
Represented by the Vice Chairman in the North Central Zone, Muazu Rijau, at an event in Lafia during the weekend, the APC National chairman had told party stakeholders not to bother about the tribunal victory of the PDP candidate, assuring them that the governor’s mandate will be protected.
In a statement on Monday, by the party’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Hamza, the PDP said the comments of the APC national chairman is a threat to democracy and the rule of law.
The PDP reiterated that the verdict of the election tribunal must be respected, as it is a fundamental component of the democratic system.
The opposition party stressed that the Nigerian people deserve the right to elect their leaders freely and have confidence in the independence and impartiality of the judiciary.
The party said, “Governor Sule’s election was nullified by the tribunal based on facts before it. Similarly, it is within Sule’s rights to challenge this decision through legal means only.
“However, it is essential for all parties to respect the rule of law and due process while the legal proceedings are ongoing.”
It noted that Ganduje’s statement does nothing but incite political tensions and undermine the principles upon which democracy stands.
The PDP called on all political leaders, regardless of their party affiliation, to refrain from making inflammatory statements that could disrupt the peace and stability of the nation and reminded Ganduje that democracy is governed by laws and that there is nowhere in the country’s Constitution that allows political parties to resort to self-help other than the judiciary in the event of political disputes.
The party urged the APC national chairman and all members of the APC in Nasarawa State to reconsider their position, respect the decision of the tribunal and allow the legal process to run its course. https://.ng/2023/10/16/nasarawa-tribunal-judgment-pdp-condemns-gandujes-comments/

Politics › Guber Polls: Honour Your Words – PDP Tells INEC by Thonyboy(op): 8:11am On Oct 16, 2023 |
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called on the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu to honour his words concerning uploading of election results from Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa on the commission’s Result Viewing Portal (IReV). The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba made the call while addressing a news conference on Sunday in Abuja. Ologunagba said that the PDP has noted the statement by Yakubu that INEC would make full use of its Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the IReV portal for uploading and electronic transmission of results in Imo, Bayelsa and Kogi governorship election. “The PDP notes that the INEC chairman has confirmed the use of BVAS and IREV in this election and even in previous election is a mandatory statutory requirement of the law. “The PDP holds Yakubu directly responsible and accountable to his pronouncements and that INEC is bound by law to electronically transmit results directly from the polling units using these technologies. “The PDP is fully prepared for these elections and in line with the commitment of INEC will not accept any other means of transmitting results in these elections except as this manner pronounced by the INEC Chairman in line with requirement of Electoral Act, 2022,” Ologunagba said. He added that the PDP had commenced training of its polling agents at all levels to ensure total compliance to the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) Electoral Act, 2022, INEC Guidelines and Regulations, especially as confirmed by Yakubu. He expressed confidence that the party would win the elections in the three states. He said that in Bayelsa, the PDP has Gov. Douye Diri, “a miracle and performing governor, who is on ground and enjoys the overwhelming support of the people.” He said that in Kogi, the PDP has a very popular candidate, Sen. Dino Melaye’s whose popularity and public acceptance have completely dwarfed and dumbed the rejected APC candidate, Usman Ododo. In Imo, Ologunagba said that the PDP had a very popular candidate in Sen. Samuel Anyanwu whose popularity and acceptance across the State “have thrown the Gov. Hope Uzodimma and the APC in the State into mortal fear.” “Anyanwu’s mission to Make Imo Safe Again is resonating across the State and overwhelming majority of the people of Imo State are rallying with him to achieve this,” Ologunagba said. He also reiterated the party demands for the immediate removal of INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Imo, Prof. Sylvia Agu. He said that the PDP and other political parties had written several letters to INEC over allegation that Agu had been compromised. “Recently the political parties including the PDP, Labout Party, Young Progressives Party (YPP), African Democratic Party (ADC), Action Alliance (AA) among others staged a peaceful protest to INEC demanding for her immediate removal. “Agu is a relation of a national officer of the APC and there are allegations that she is being further compromised to assist the APC to rig the Nov. 11 governorship election in Imo State “The continuing stay in office of Agu as Imo REC is provocative, inciting and amount to testing the will of the people of Imo State and daring them to do their worse. “INEC has a lot of RECs from which the INEC Chairman can choose to replace Agu and avoid a scenario that could be worse than what happened in Adamawa State Governorship election where INEC refused to change the compromised REC,” he said. https://.ng/2023/10/16/guber-polls-honour-your-words-pdp-tells-inec/

A young man identified as Akeem is in the Police net in Ogun State for allegedly setting up his girlfriend to be raped by his friend, “Suleiman Olaniyi, an Eiye Confraternity member.” The Ogun State Police Command said the victim had on October 8 reported that the boyfriend, Akeem, fixed an appointment with her at his friend’s house located at Agbero Area Ode Remo. The police spokesperson in Ogun, Omolola Odutola, quoted the girlfriend as saying that Akeem tactically left the room and in the blink of an eye, “the owner of the room, one Suleiman Olaniyi, a member of Eiye Confraternity bashed into the room.” The said cultist had reportedly ordered her to lie down as he “wanted to have carnal knowledge of her against her wish.” As the lady screamed, neighbours got attracted to the scene and forcefully opened the door to rescue her. Odutola said the suspect tore the victim’s underwear but he could not achieve his aim because the victim struggled with him. “Her scream attracted neighbours who forced the door open and rescued her. Her underwear was torn, but penetration failed due to her struggling and eventual rescue,” she stated. Politics › Allow Supreme Court Decide Tinubu’s Certificate Saga – LP’s Arabambi by Thonyboy(op): 5:28pm On Oct 13, 2023 |
he crisis rocking the Labour Party (LP) appears not to have abated as a factional National Publicity Secretary of the party, Dr Abayomi Arabambi, warned the presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi to desist from attacking President Bola Tinubu over his Chicago State University Diploma certificate.
In what looked like a public defense of Tinubu on Friday, Arabambi asked his party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi to stop taunting Tinubu over the release of his academic records by the Chicago State University ( CSU).
The release of Tinubu’s academic record, had generated controversy among Nigerians, with many asking the President to resign on the grounds that he submitted forged certificates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before the election.
Peter Obi, while reacting to the development had asked Tinubu to present his true identity, as the issue seems to portray all Nigerians as criminals.
Obi’s position has, however, received attacks from some quarters especially from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Presidency, with the latest coming from his party chieftains.
Addressing a world press conference in Abuja on Friday, Arabambi described Obi’s press conference over the CSU’s saga as “needless and unwarranted”.
Rather than attacking Tinubu, the LP factional spokesperson counselled Obi to allow the Supreme Court of Nigeria to adjudicate and resolve the matter.
Arabambi argued that since Obi, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has submitted to Supreme Court jurisdiction, it will be irritating for Obi to resort to self-help in the face of the pending appeal at the Apex Court.
He specifically disagreed with Obi’s claims that all Nigerians are being treated like common criminals all over the world over Tinubu’s certificate issue adding that he had gone too far with the unsubstantiated claim.
Arabambi said, “We have been watching with keen interest the various reactions and mudslingings on the unsubstantiated allegations of forgery in respect of the Chicago State University Diploma Certificate of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“While we agree that Peter Obi has rights to his opinion, he ought to be guided by the Constitution of Nigeria because he who comes to equity must come with clean hands.
“As a main opposition Party, the role played by LP former 2023 Presidential Candidate is highly condemnable because it is obvious he is trying to wage war against the President of Nigeria through intimidation to cause concussion.
“We believe rather than Mr Peter OBI engaging in this Media Tragedy, rascality and comedy, he should have allowed the Supreme Court to adjudicate on the veracity of the issues raised in the President’s certificate saga”.
He disclosed that as the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, he was among the people who screened Obi as one of the party’s presidential hopefuls and that the name written on Peter Obi’s academic certificate from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), was different from the name written on the NYSC certificate of the former governor and his WAEC Certificate.
In addition, he said “A second look and curious check on Peter Obi’s 1978 School Certificate results posted hurriedly” by Obi’s former aide Mr Oseloka Paul “shows the name Obi Gregory Onwubuasi and not Peter Onwubuasi Obi”.
He said, “I was part of the people who did the screening for him. In the form EC9, we gave him, he wrote that he attended the University of Nigeria Nsukka and he wrote that he finished his youth service but unfortunately, in the final submission of the form he only submitted his school certificate.
‘So something is fishy and I want to say the name the school sent for mobilization was not what was written on his NYSC certificate and he knows that.
“This destination that he is going to, I don’t know what he wants to achieve. We have before the Supreme Court his petition and the pleadings are not there, you are now calling out someone to come and reveal his true identity.
“For us, we don’t know the true identity of Peter Obi even in the Labour Party because everything was shrouded in secrecy at that time between him and Abure in Asaba.
“We were rushing then because we had just a day to do our presidential primary and that was why he was able to get away with it, but we have it on record that Obi’s name on his NYSC certificate and the one on his University of Nigeria, Nsukka certificate are different”.
Arabambi who displayed several documents submitted by Obi with different names charged the LP presidential candidate to allow peace to reign by avoiding actions and statements capable of causing disaffection in the country.
He vehemently denied being sponsored by the Presidency to oppose Obi, adding that all the Labour Party wants is for Obi to comport himself within the ambit of the law in the prosecution of the petition against Tinubu. https://.ng/2023/10/13/allow-supreme-court-decide-tinubus-certificate-saga-lps-arabambi-again-tackles-obi/

Politics › Tinubu Fair To South-east, More Appointments Coming – Ifeanyi Ubah by Thonyboy(op): 6:26am On Oct 13, 2023 |
Senator Ifeanyi Ubah has claimed that President Bola Tinubu is fair to the people of the South-East, citing recent ministerial and other appointments. Speaking on a Channels Television’s programme on Thursday night, the lawmaker representing the Anambra South maintained that Tinubu has more “good things” including appointments in stock for the region. .ng recalls that Ubah had, during the Thursday plenary, announced his decision to dump the Young Progressives Party (YPP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). According to the letter read by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, the lawmaker’s decision followed irreconcilable differences in the YPP. Reacting to insinuation that the South-East is not APC’s stronghold with the party performing abysmally in the 2023 election in the area, Ubah said President Tinubu has been fair to the region. “For someone winning election back to back, you know that you must be close to your people and you must always consult widely with your people. “So for me to join the APC, I did my consultation and then I listened to the voice of my people. “If you look at the APC today, you will discover that the President [Bola Tinubu] has been super fair to the South-East irrespective of our votes during the elections. “Giving us the minister of works [David Umahi] is something that would not have been possible in the past. [There are] other appointments that are coming and so many other good things he wants to do for our people.” The lawmaker further noted that the region has much to benefit from keying into the APC and does not want the South-East to be left behind. “So, it is very important for us now to join the centre party so that we would not be left behind,” he said, adding that “the entire South-East is joining where I am going”. “Just watch and see what is going to be in the next few weeks, he added. https://.ng/2023/10/12/tinubu-fair-to-south-east-more-appointments-coming-ifeanyi-ubah/

Residents of the Okehi community in the Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State were bewildered on Wednesday after a woman identified as Hope Nwala bathed her husband, Ekelediri Nwankwo Nwala, with hot groundnut oil while he was asleep over an argument. The incident followed a domestic squabble between the couple. Mr. Nwankwo, who is battling for his life, told newsmen on Wednesday that before the incident, he had a disagreement with his wife, now at large, over his decision to send the wife’s younger sister away from the house. According to him, his sister-in-law was disrespectful and dressed indecently, prompting his decision to send her packing out of the house. He added that his wife, who disagreed with his decision, attacked him and bathed him with hot oil while he was asleep. “I had told my wife’s younger sister to leave my house because of the way she has started dressing, and the way she occupies my matrimonial bed even when I am around. “No young guy will tolerate such behaviour, but my wife has refused the younger sister to leave the house. “I also saw my wife alone with one tall black guy in the shop I rented for her, not that he is in for business, he followed my wife and sister here and there, with all these, I gave that her younger sister two thousand naira transport to go home so that I can actually understand what is going on in my house. “But my wife got upset; while I went to bed to sleep, she used boiled groundnut oil on me, then started hitting me with a hammer,” he said. Efforts by newsmen to reach the Rivers State Police Command proved abortive as the Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, could not take her calls. https://.ng/2023/10/12/rivers-woman-bathes-husband-with-hot-oil-while-asleep/
