Crime / After 10 Years Of Barrenness, Bandits Kill Nursing Mother, Her Mum In FCT by Thonyboy: 7:14am On Jan 28
Despite the efforts of the security operatives to tackle the deteriorating security crisis in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, killings and abduction of residents have continued, .ng reports.

The blood-thirsty assailants, who have been causing mayhem in the nation’s capital city, recently intensified their unprovoked attacks on residents.

Although the security operatives recently recorded successes in the battle against terrorism in the city by rescuing kidnap victims and arresting suspects, our correspondent gathered that some of the unfortunate attacks are underreported.

On Thursday, the family members of Simon Igba, an officer of the Nigeria Police Force, were thrown into agony following the killing of his wife, Christiana Igba and his mother-in-law, Maria Agbo.

.ng gathered on Saturday that the dreaded gunmen kidnapped Christiana and her mother in the Dei-Dei area of the capital city about two weeks ago.

Mrs Maria was on a postnatal visit to her daughter, Christiana, who recently gave birth after being childless since she tied the knot with her husband, Igba, about ten years ago.

The bandits had invaded their residence near the Mobil Barracks, Dei-Dei, hacked the husband to coma and whisked away Christiana, her mother and the one-month-old baby to an unknown destination.

One of the neighbours, Adejor Jacob, who narrated the incident to newsmen on Saturday, said the abductors had demanded N90 million ransom prior to the murder of the victims.

According to him, “The late Christiana gave birth recently after being barren for more than ten years. Her mother came to Abuja from Benue State for the postnatal and to celebrate with the family over the newborn.

“The kidnappers earlier asked the husband to pay N90 million ransom as the only condition to release his wife and his mother-in-law.

“A day before they were killed, the kidnappers contacted the husband and they both negotiated and settled for N10 million.

“The kidnappers asked him to make the money available before 10 am the following day, which was last Thursday.

“Before the agreed time, the kidnappers called the husband to inform him that the one month old-baby was ill.

“There was another victim that the kidnappers released that day so they gave her the little baby and asked her to take the newborn to a hospital.

“The kidnappers gave her the phone number of the baby’s father and asked her to call when she got to the hospital.

“The woman did as she was instructed. The hospital called Igba and he went there and recovered his baby. After a few hours, we received a report that Christiana and her mother had been killed.

“Their lifeless bodies were dumped and some police officers went there to recover them. They have been deposited at the Kubwa General Hospital.”

When our correspondent visited the area on Saturday, it was gathered that the residents who are still in shock over the unprecedented murder, are living in fear.

According to a resident who does not want to be mentioned, “many people are relocating from Dei-Dei due to security issues in the area.

“There has been a series of kidnappings and killings in this place since January but most of the incidents are not captured by the media.”

When contacted by newsmen, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh declined speaking on the matter.

Meanwhile, .ng reports that the daredevil terrorists have been on rampage, terrorizing some areas in the territory, including Kawu, Gaba, Dei-dei, Kubwa Hills, Ushafa, Bwari, Mpape, Kubwa, Lugbe, Pyakasa, Keti, Gbaupe, Gbaukuchi, Airport Road, among others.

Earlier last week, reports emerged that over 200 violent attacks have been recorded across all the six area councils of the FCT since President Bola Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023.

It was gathered that at least 89 residents of the nation’s capital have been killed by the terrorists, while 176 were kidnapped within the period.

This has instilled palpable fear and anxiety on residents, particularly those residing in the satellite areas.

.ng reports that night life, especially in the Bwari Area Council, has drastically diminished as most residents desert the streets before nightfall.

Some schools and businesses were recently shut down over fear of attacks by the pitiless kidnappers.

Elder Ben Ijeoche, a security expert, told .ng on Saturday that until the Federal Government and the National Assembly agreed to establish state police, the security crisis may continue.

He said, “We have been saying this but it looks like there is nobody to listen. The National Assembly should amend the 1999 Constitution accordingly to enable each of the 36 states and the FCT to establish their own police force.

“This will help reduce the issue we are facing right now. When you mobilize an officer from Abuja to Plateau, the officer will be limited in discharging their duties because they don’t know the place very well.

“Someone who has lived in the crisis area for a long time should be able to know how to tackle the challenges better. The person wearing the shoes knows where it pinches.

“State police will also create jobs for the youths and take some of our youths away from the bush.”

However, the FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, has assured that residents of the territory will get positive news within days.

“I can assure you that in a matter of days, you will be hearing positive stories.

“We are ready to support our security agencies with whatever they need to ensure that our people can sleep with their two eyes closed.

“We are going to provide the councils with motorcycles to support the vigilante groups so that they can get information and assist our security agencies,” he added.

It also ordered that the former governor not travel outside the jurisdiction without the permission of the court.

A statement issued by the spokesperson of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Dele Oyewale, said on Wednesday that Obiano was arraigned before Justice Inyang Ekwo on nine counts bordering on money laundering, diversion of funds, stealing and corruption to the tune of N4 billion.

He was alleged to have moved the said sum from the security votes into different accounts, and the money at various times was changed into dollars and returned to him in cash.

Education / Senior Staff Files N150m Suit Against JAMB For Alleged Unlawful Dismissal by Thonyboy: 11:40am On Jan 24
Mr Yisa Usman, a Deputy Director with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has filed a N150 million suit against the board over alleged unlawful dismissal.

Usman, in the suit marked: NICN/ABJ/266/2023 and filed by his lawyer, Oseini Bamigbaye from the Chambers of Mohammed Shuaibu, at the National Industrial Court, Abuja, sought nine reliefs.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that while Usman is the claimant, JAMB is the sole defendant in the case dated and filed September 29, 2023.

The claimant is praying the court to declare that the constitution of the Board’s Directorate Staff Disciplinary Committee set up by the office was wholly irregular, illegal, null and void for failure to comply with Article 3.5.4 of the Board’s Staff Manual and Conditions of Service.

He is also praying the court to declare that the composition of the committee, mostly consisting of the board’s registrar and other directors who were beneficiaries of infractions exposed by him “in Item No. 6, Page 5 of his response dated April 3, 2023, to the query issued on March 31, 2023, is unconstitutional, null and void.”

He premised his argument on the grounds that his right to fair hearing could not have been guaranteed before the committee.

Usman is equally urging the court to declare that “the claimant’s purported dismissal by the defendant without the consideration of the Committee’s Report by the defendant’s board is unlawful, illegal null and void.”

The claimant, who sought an order setting aside his “purported dismissal” by the board, prayed the court for an order reinstating him “to his position with full entitlements, benefits and perks due to him by virtue of his position.”

He sought “an order granting to the claimant all the salaries, allowances, perks due to him or that would have been due to him but for the purported dismissal.
“An order compelling the defendant to promote the claimant as the Director of Finance and Account, being the most senior and qualified director in the Finance Department; the current Director of Finance and Account (DFA), having been holding that office illegally since May 9, 2022, when he turned 60 years old.

“Exemplary damages in the sum of N150, 000, 000.00(one hundred and fifty million naira) for illegally and unlawful dismissing the claimant as well as the emotional, reputational, psychological pain and trauma caused by the malicious, illegal, and arbitrary actions of the defendant.

“The cost of this action includes a reasonable cost to cover solicitor’s fees.”
In his statement of material facts, Usman averred that he joined JAMB in Sept 11, 1997 as an Accountant II and rose to the position of deputy director after receiving several promotions in the board.

He said at the time of the dismissal, he was in his eight years as deputy director in federal service and next in line to be the DFA.

He said his professional education, training, experience, and personal principles “shaped him as an accountable, honest, transparent, efficient, and anti-corruption individual who cannot tolerate any form of infractions and always speak up against them.”

According to him, this nature resulted in conflicts with the management of the board, as he is seen as an obstacle that needs to be removed

He said his commitment to due process and aversion to corrupt practices led him to lodge complaints to the management of JAMB, the Head of Service, the EFCC, ICPC and the office of the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Education about financial interactions in the board.

Usman said unfortunately, these actions did not sit well with the board’s management, particularly its Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede.

NAN observes that no fewer than 33 letters, exhibited in the court documents, were written by the claimant to different government agencies in his efforts to blow the whistle on various infractions, violations of due process, laws, and civil service rules against the board in relation to procurement, bookkeeping and employment regulations.

Against this background, Usman averred that he suffered continuous transfers despite his constant pleas due to his physical and health issues.

According to him, within a period of five years, the claimant was maliciously transferred from Abuja to Kogi to Kaduna and then to Port Harcourt and back to Kaduna, despite his physical challenges and the distance from his family.

He alleged that the purpose of these transfers was to remove him from important core activities of the board and prevent him from raising concerns about any notable infractions.

Besides, he said that in the bid to shut him down, a trumped up charge was filed against him at Federal High Court (FHC), Abuja.

“Despite all these challenges, the claimant diligently and commendably performed his duties and responsibilities,” he said.

Justice Osatohanmwen Obaseki-Osaghae adjourned the matter until March 11 for further mention due to non-representation of JAMB in court when the matter came up on Monday.

The judge also directed that a hearing notice be issued and served on the defendant against the next adjourned date.

NAN reports that the police had, on June 14, 2023, arraigned Usman before Justice Nkeonye Maha of a FHC on allegations bordering on threatening Mrs Raheemat Oloyede on the phone with the intent to blackmail her husband, Prof. Ishaq, the JAMB’s registrar, among other counts.

But Usman’s lawyer notified the FHC court, when parties returned to court, that while the trial was still ongoing, his client was dismissed when parties ought to respect and submit themselves to the jurisdiction of the court and maintained a status quo pending the hearing and determination of the charge.

Politics / Why Late Chief Of Staff, Abba Kyari Had Issues With Me Till Death – Adesina by Thonyboy: 5:22pm On Jan 23
A former presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, has revealed why the late Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari, had issues with him till death.

Adesina disclosed that he endured a strained relationship with Kyari from the onset of his appointment.

He noted that the late Chief of Staff refused to grant him unhindered access to the President, despite Buhari’s directive to that effect.

In his book, ‘Working with Buhari: Reflections of a Special Adviser, Media and Publicity (2015-2023)’, Adesina claimed that Kyari deliberately prevented Buhari from funding the operations of the presidential media office for five years.

Adesina said in the book, “In June 2015, I had done a memo to the President, recommending some people to be taken on as staff in the Media Department. They had gone through the campaign and struggles with us and pedestaled themselves as dyed-in-the-wool Buharists. They were from different parts of the country.

“I explained that much to Mr. President the day I took the memo to him. He thanked me and said he would pass it to the SGF (Secretary to Government of the Federation) when he appointed one, so it would be on record. Fair enough.

“When a COS (Chief of Staff) and SGF were appointed, the President directed the memo to the COS. Also in order. But Malam Kyari just sat on it for the next one year. He did not say anything on it.

Eventually, my colleague, Garba Shehu, went to see him. And he confessed to Shehu that he shunned the memo because I had taken it directly to the President. But the June date on it was clear. He had not even been appointed then.

“The second had to do with funding of the Media Department. There was no budget line, and funds were usually provided by the Office of the NSA, as needs arose. I had consulted with two of my predecessors, Dr. Reuben Abati, and Ima Niboro, who had briefed me.

Media and publicity is not cheap, not anywhere in the world, but it would amaze you that we operated for five years without a dime. After the NSA was appointed, I went to meet and brief him about how publicity was usually funded from his office. It was a Friday, and he promised that anything that would make me and the man we had come to serve succeed, he would do.

“Exactly a week later, after the Jumat service, the NSA walked into my office, with his two hands in the air. I asked what the matter was. He told me he had received a memo from the President, directing that nothing, absolutely nothing, must be funded from his office, except security. In the light of that, the promise he had made me was no longer tenable.

“I thanked him and said I would meet the President. And I did. That very night, in the house. I remember that it was only myself and General Dambazau that were waiting to see him. He is a senior friend, and I told him the purpose of my visit.

“He was quite surprised that over three months media and publicity was not being funded yet.

“He asked how we were doing it, and I said myself and Shehu were using goodwill.

“When I met the President and told him of my encounter with the NSA, he confirmed that he gave the directive, and explained why.”

He quoted Buhari as saying, “A lot was done through the Office of the NSA, and there were no records. I do not want that. We will institute a probe into the activities of the office (it was eventually done), and you will see what happened there. I don’t want the media funded from there again.

“Meet the Chief of Staff and let him design how we would be funding media.”

Adesina narrates further: “The next day, I went to see the COS in the office. I had just started talking, when he impatiently started to say: ‘No, no, no. Media is not funded from here. Media is not funded from here.’ He would not even give me a chance to talk. And lest I appear as someone just after funding, for what I would gain, I left his office and never went back to the President. For the first five years, the media did not receive one naira, till the SGF, Boss Mustapha, heard about it and designed a budget line from his office.

It was not up to what was required, but it was better than nothing.

“Third encounter. A retired General, someone well respected in the country, had wanted to see the President.

“Many times, he applied through the office of COS, which is the proper channel. He never got feedback. So he phoned and asked me to intervene since the issue he wanted to discuss was quite serious. I went to the President, and mentioned the General, and why he needed to come see him.

The President just said: ‘Tell SCOP to schedule him for 8:00 pm tomorrow in the house.’ I passed on the word and left for my office. I had not been seated for five minutes when my intercom rang. It was the COS who wanted me to come to his office.

He started screaming as I entered: ‘Why did you get an appointment for Gen..? Why did you? You always go behind me to relate with the President. You have to stop it.’

“Remember the President’s instructions to me the day I resumed work: ‘Do not let anybody stop you from seeing me. Anytime you need to see me, just come.’ I never abused that rain check but went to see the President only when it was totally necessary, throughout the eight years. And he was always gracious to me.

But apparently, it became an issue with Malam Abba, so we were not quite chummy, but we were also not enemies.”

The president will pass a policy to destroy the opposition and Bobi wine should be careful against lawful detention.’’

Namibia: “The country will have a lot of political tension and trouble as the incumbent will face gang-up. He should be careful not to make political miscalculations. People will be calling for his elimination. He needs to end his political ambition, he will suffer setbacks. Opposition will begin to blackmail him, he needs prayers.’’

While speaking on Sudan, Primate Ayodele revealed that one of the rebel leaders will be assassinated if care is not taken.

Mozambique: “The president needs to do his calculations very well. There is going to be an election that will give the ruling party continuation and of course, the country must be more careful against disasters that can consume life. They must be prayerful not to see political turmoil and accidents that will claim lives. The level of poverty will become high and the president will be accused of corruption.’’

South Sudan: “If the incumbent president contests, there will be problems. The country should pray not to experience what is happening in Sudan, they are not free from insecurity. The president should take care of his health properly otherwise, he can slump. I am seeing an ethnic crisis in South Sudan. The country should pray against wrong partnerships and investors. There will be problems between the president and his political ally.’’

Sudan: If care isn’t taken, there will be an assassination of one of the rebel leaders. It is the only coalition that can lead Sudan to survival. The country will have democracy but it will be epileptic until 2026.’’

The prophet further warned of flooding and unexpected attacks in Togo.

Zambia: “The president will have a strong opposition though the government will bring up different tactics to frustrate the plans of the opposition. They want to keep the opposition silent. The coming election will be a strong one which will see the former president and current president at loggerheads. The president must strategize and do all that is needful to make his party continue.’’

Kenya: “The country should pray not to see an assassination or removal of a governor. The country’s economic policy will be alarming. Ruto will come up with different policies to see that Kenya gets better but he won’t be appreciated. Oppositions will come out strongly against him. All the efforts of Ruto to make Kenya better will be faced with challenges. The president needs to look after his health. The foreign exchange will not be too good, and Kenya must change its economic policies. I see the country getting it wrong in diplomatic policies. The president must pray not to lose any minister.’’

Togo: “The president will have political problems in his country and party. He will take policies to revive the political troubles in Togo. The president must pray against flooding and unexpected attacks. Let them pray against protest in his government.‘’

Other prophecies include Zimbabwe: “The people will be living below poverty, they should pray against Chicken pox and high fever. The country will also experience a climatic crisis. The president will be indicted of corruption by the West.’’

Senegal: “There will be low turnout in the coming election because the ruling party will still take the lead. The ruling party’s candidate, Amadou Bao must be careful because he will face a major challenge with his party. He will have serious issues with the incumbent president. I also see a coup threat in Senegal.’’

Politics / Fubara Loses As Court Nullifies Passage Of Rivers 2024 Budget by Thonyboy: 12:31pm On Jan 22
The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday, voided and set aside the presentation and passage of Rivers State 2024 budget by a group of four-member legislators in the State.

The court in a judgment delivered by Justice James Omotoso ordered the governor of the State, Siminalaye Fubara to represent the budget to the legally constituted House of Assembly under the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule.

James Omotoso quashed the withholding of the House of Assembly fund on the ground, declaring that he has no constitutional power to do so.

The court restrained Governor Fubara from frustrating the House of Assembly under Amaewhule from sitting or interfering in the affairs of the House.

The redeployment of the Clerk and the Deputy Clerk done by the Governor was declared null and void and was set aside.

The Inspector General of Police was ordered to immediately give adequate security to the Speaker and legislators loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike.

Justice Omotoso ordered the Clerk and the Deputy Clerk to resume office immediately and unhindered.

The National Assembly was also barred from taking over the Rivers State House of Assembly or accepting or treating any request from Governor Fubara.

Governor Fubara was ordered to release all monies standing in the credit of the House of Assembly to Martin Amaewhule.

.ng reports that all the issues in dispute were resolved in favour of Wike’s loyalists.

Politics / NGX’s Growth: Nigerians Are Poorer Under Tinubu's Government – Ndubuisi Ekekwe by Thonyboy: 8:55am On Jan 22
A United States-based innovator and tech entrepreneur, Prof Ndubuisi Ekekwe, says while the Nigerian Stock Exchange has recorded impressive growth in the last eight months under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the irony is that more Nigerians are poorer.

Ndubuisi reacted to an article titled, “In eight months of Tinubu administration, Nigeria’s stock market”, written by Bayo Onanuga, the Presidential aide on Information and Strategy.

Onanuga said NGX achieved 45.90 per cent growth in 2023, the highest compared to S & P 500, Shanghai Stock Exchange, Johannesburg, Ghana Stock SE, and Nairobi SE.

Reacting, Ekekwe said although the growth rate of NGX was factual, the boom in stocks and equities had made many people poorer and depressed.

According to him, foreign investors were not tripping into Nigeria despite the country’s stock growth because of the fall in the value of the Naira and soaring inflation, which was quoted at 28.92 per cent in December.

“The Nigeria stock exchange has been growing on absolute Naira, but on the real value, it is not. That statement is factual, but the irony is that the growth, as noted by Bayo, has made many people poorer and depressed the overall value of the stock market.

“That is why foreign investors are not coming for that 45 per cent gain because if you made 45 per cent on equity but lost 50 per cent on currency, with 30 per cent on inflation, you are poorer”, he said.

At the close of work on Friday, the NGX’s All-share index recorded an all-time high of 94,538.12 points, gaining 2.87 per cent.

The development comes as the NGX’s All-Share Index grew by 45.90 per cent in 2023.

Family / BREAKING: Nabeeha’s Siblings Finally Regain Freedom From Kidnappers by Thonyboy: 7:48am On Jan 21
The four remaining siblings of late Nabeeha Al-Kadriyah have finally regained freedom.

.ng recalls that the sisters were abducted alongside their father in the Zuma 1 area of Bwari Area Council on January 2nd.

Their father was later released to enable him source for ransom. However, the failure of the family to meet their demand within a deadline issued by the kidnappers led to the killing of Nabeeha.

After the young schoolgirl was killed by his abductors, the bandits raised the ransom from N60 million to N100 million with a threat to kill all the sisters.

The development attracted sympathy from concerned Nigerians who offered assistance to ensure the remaining sisters were not killed.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Federal Capital Territory Police, FCT command, Josephine Adeh confirmed the release to .ng on Sunday morning.

Although there are indications that the N100m was paid prior to their release, the PPRO said they were rescued by the FCT Anti-Kidnapping squad in a concerted effort with troops of the Nigerian Army.

She said the victims were rescued around Kajuru forest in Kaduna State, Saturday night.

“The operatives successfully rescued the victims around Kajuru forest in Kaduna state at about 11:30 pm on Saturday”, she said.

Politics / Enugu Government Explains Demolition Of Illegal Structure, Criminal Hideout by Thonyboy: 6:51am On Jan 21
The Enugu State government has refuted trending videos of alleged indiscriminate demolition of properties at the Enugu Lifestyle and Golf City, also known as Enugu Centenary City.

The government said it only demolished illegal and uncompleted structures, among them buildings, which served as kidnappers’ hideout, stressing that it was yet to demolish any of the unapproved but completed and or occupied properties in the area.

The government said the action of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority, ECTDA, in collaboration with security agencies, underscored its commitment to the security of lives and property and protection of investments and contracts with investors.

This was even as the Enugu State Police Command announced the arrest of three suspected kidnappers and recovery of arms and ammunitions following a tip-off by ECTDA.

The Commissioner for Information, Enugu State, Mr. Aka Eze Aka, and the Executive Chairman, ECTDA, Hon. Uche Anya, made this known while conducting reporters around the demolished structures located deep in the forest of the Centenary City located at Obeagu/Amechi Akwunanaw in Enugu South LGA.

Speaking to reporters, Eze said: “What we saw in the trending video today was an attempt by the originators to demarket Enugu State as an investment destination for Real Estate development.

“But in reality the operation by ECTDA and the security agencies was a testament that government is resolved to rid the state of criminal elements and protect property rights and investments in the state.

“In this instance, you are all aware of the distance we travelled from the city to get to this place. The culprits did not only erect the structures without any title and approval, they got inside this place pretending to be a block industry, whereas as you can see, they were into nefarious activities.”

On the allegations made by a content creator on the social media, the commissioner said: “When the person, who was on the video began to talk about trying to destroy his house and so on, it is important to state that not one single building that has been earmarked for demolition was touched because we also have a human feeling to allow these houses for them to be regularised.

“They just went about to recycle old videos where some properties were destroyed by past administrations.

“It is also funny that the young man has been brandishing a mere Deed, which cannot be an approval to build.”

Meanwhile, the ECTDA Chairman, Uche Anya, has said the agency would not “succumb to blackmail, including recycling and trending of videos of past demolitions.”

“It is apposite to state that the action of the ECTDA in Centenary City is Rule of Law at work.

“The ECTDA Law prohibits carrying out any development or municipal service within the Capital Territory without the written approval of the Authority.

“For the avoidance of doubts, Section 13 (1) of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority Law, 2009, provides: ‘Notwithstanding the provisions of any other law, as from the commencement of this Law, no person or body shall carry out any development or municipal service within the Capital Territory, unless such development or municipal service has been approved in writing by the Authority.’

“However, whereas the current ECTDA leadership is determined to stop unauthorised developments and carry on with the urban masterplan restoration and renewal process, including those initiated by successive administrations, we took the initiative to mark the affected properties in October 2023, issuing notices that should accord the developers a window to regularise their titles/properties, if any.

“For emphasis, even though the notices had since expired, no unapproved but completed or occupied building was demolished during the exercise by ECTDA. We are still calling on the developers to do the right thing.

“Meanwhile, it is to be made clear that the ECTDA operation of Friday, January 19, was based on an intelligence report about an illegal development/property that served as kidnappers’ den at the Centenary City. In the course of our due diligence, we also found out that the property, like many others at Centenary City, had no title or approval from the appropriate authorities.

“Although the building was not fully completed, the criminals had already mounted sophisticated surveillance equipment such as CCTV cameras, PTZ cameras, in addition to about two dozens of mobile phones denoting the dangerous level of sophistication.

“As some of the videos already in public domain clearly show, we made some chilling discoveries on storming the property with security operatives, including several guns and suspected kidnappers, whom the security agents were able to apprehend.

In a similar department, the Enugu State Police Command said it arrested three kidnap suspects and recovered arms at the demolished property.

A statement by its spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, on Saturday, read: “Acting on credible information made by ECTDA), Enugu State Police Command’s Operatives serving in Enugu Area Command raided a criminal hideout in the Centenary City area of Obeagu/Awkunanaw community in Enugu South LGA on Friday, January 19, 2024.

“The operational exercise led to the arrest of three male suspects, namely: Emmanuel Nwabundo aged 39, Emmanuel Eze aged 35, and Anthony Onoche George aged 30, while others escaped. Eight (cool pump action guns with four (4) live and twenty-six (26) expended cartridges were recovered.

“Other exhibits recovered include one (1) machete, four (4) units of solar-powered CCTV cameras, thirteen (13) assorted phones, one (1) DVD player, and four (4) bags and clothes, all suspected to be stolen. Also recovered are objects suspected to be charms.

“A preliminary investigation conducted reveals that the criminal elements and cohorts at large have been using the location as a hideout for the design and consequent perfection of their criminal activities, including arm d robbery, kidnapping, among other crimes, within Enugu metropolis and environs.

“The suspects shall be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded.”

He quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, as calling on the citizenry to “avail the police of credible and actionable security information.”

Politics / Buhari’s Plane Nearly Crashed With Him, Aides On Board by Thonyboy: 11:37am On Jan 20
Former President Muhammadu Buhari’s plane nearly crashed with him and his aides in November 2015, six months after being sworn in as Nigeria’s president, a new book released in Abuja on Tuesday, has revealed.

.ng reports that former President, Buhari visited 94 countries in eight years

In the book ‘Working with Buhari: Reflections of a Special Adviser, Media and Publicity (2015-2023)’, written by Femi Adesina, Buhari is said to have been travelling to the Island of Malta to attend a meeting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government when the plane ran into frightful turbulence that persisted for a long time.

said the turbulence was so severe that when the plane eventually landed in Malta, a deeply terrified President Buhari queried the pilot: “What kind of landing is this?” and the pilot had to tender an apology to the President and the other troubled passengers.

The report said: “A presidential jet is not immune from bad weather and the accompanying turbulence (many hours of that we experienced). Neither is it spared from what aviators call wind shear (a sudden change in the direction of the wind). We had a frightful experience).

“In November 2015, we had travelled to Malta to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, and it was an uneventful flight till the flight crew announced that we should get ready for landing.

“Few seconds from touching the tarmac, the Boeing 737 business jet got buffeted from all sides and began to sway dangerously. On touching down, it pirouetted and gyrated like a drunken sailor; and was almost turning over.

“What kind of landing is this?”, Buhari is reported to have queried the frightened pilot, who immediately apologized to the then president.

“We have just experienced what is called wind shear, a sudden change in the direction of wind. Apologies Mr. President, and distinguished passengers,” the scared pilot replied Buhari on touching down safely.

In Chapter 21 of the new book with the caption: “Over 50 foreign trips… and a health scare”, the book lists 94 countries which Buhari visited officially during his eight-year tenure with the highest being 19 trips in 2016, 18 in 2022, 16 in 2015 and 12 in 2018.

Tunji Ojo revealed that the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Service Board, CDCFIB, has approved a 35 per cent allocation for women.

The minister disclosed this through his official X account on Friday.

Tunji-Ojo, who doubled as the Chairman of the Board, said the decision aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda to elevate women’s participation in critical sectors.

“Today (Friday), as the Chairman of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), I approved the allocation of a substantial 35 per cent recruitment slot for women into agencies under the Ministry of Interior, beginning from the ongoing recruitment into the Federal Fire Service.

Politics / N4 Billion Fraud: EFCC Appeals High Court Ruling On Babangida Aliyu, Tanko Beji by Thonyboy: 5:24am On Jan 19
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has approached the Court of Appeal to set aside a no-case ruling granted to a former governor of Niger State, Muazu Babangida Aliyu and former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Tanko Beji, by Justice Abdullahi Mukailu of the Niger State High Court sitting in Minna on December 7, 2023.

This was contained in a statement by the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, on Thursday in Abuja.

He said the commission had filed a seven-count charge bordering on conspiracy, abetment and criminal breach of trust before Justice Aliyu Mayaki (now retired) against Beji, Aliyu and his former Commissioner for Environment and Chief of Staff, Umar Mohammed Nasko.

According to the statement: “The matter was later reassigned to Justice Abdullahi Mukailu and the EFCC called 11 witnesses, tendered over 400 exhibits and closed its case. However, the three defendants made a no-case submission before the court and His Lordship on December 7, 2023, granted the prayers in favour of Aliyu and Beji and directed Nasko to open his defence.”

He said the EFCC, dissatisfied with the ruling of His Lordship on Aliyu and Beji regarding their no-case submission and fully persuaded that a prima facie case had been established against them, filed a Notice of Appeal dated January 10, 2024.

He added that the commission was optimistic that the Court of Appeal would do justice to the appeal.

Surprisingly, on January 15, 2024, when the EFCC’s counsel appeared in court to continue the trial of Nasko, without any prior notice, the Attorney General of Niger State made an appearance in court with an application to take over the case from the EFCC.

Not done yet, he made another appearance four hours later and entered a nolle prosequi, which His Lordship acted on and discharged Nasko.

“For the EFCC, the road has not closed. The Commission is proceeding with its appeal against Aliyu and Beji at the Court of Appeal with all its evidence against them.

“The Commission will continue to discharge its duties in line with its mandate of tackling all forms of economic and financial crimes without fear or favour,” the statement added.

The immediate past president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has revealed why his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, and its presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections, Bola Tinubu, were defeated in Katsina, his (Buhari) home State.

Buhari said his party might have taken things for granted during the presidential election because it was his state, and they thought they would win easily.

Buhari stated this in a memoir titled “Working with Buhari: Reflections of a Special Adviser, Media and Publicity (2015 – 2023)”, written by former Special Adviser to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.

“My state, Katsina, showed the beauty of the whole system. In the Presidential poll, APC lost, but they came back to win the governorship.

“Maybe they took things for granted earlier because it was my state, and they thought they would win easily. People do not like being taken for granted,” he said.

.ng recalls that the APC candidate, Tinubu was defeated in Katsina by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate.

However, Tinubu went on to win the presidential election, defeating Atiku and Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

An aggrieved aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Olugbenga Araoyinbo, who contested the ticket of the party during the primary election for Akoko North-East/North-West Federal Constituency of Ondo State, at the weekend has rejected the result of the exercise.

Araoyinbo in a petition to the national leadership of the party alleged that there were irregularities during the primary held a few days ago ahead of the February 3 by-election.

.ng recalls that Ifeoluwa Ehindero had emerged as winner of the primary held at Victory College, Ikare-Akoko, headquarters of Akoko North-East Local Government Area of the state.

While expressing dissatisfaction with the outcome of the primary, Araoyinbo stated that the guidelines of the party regarding the conduct of primary were not met during the exercise.

According to him, the result of the primary should be cancelled, because, particularly, no congress was held in the two local governments that made up the constituency prior to the primary.

He also maintained that the delegates’ lists were not made available to the aspirants before the primary was held.

“Over 90 genuine, committed, and faithful party members from across the 23 electoral wards who paid for and collected forms to participate in the delegate congress which was scheduled for the 5th of January 2024 for the primary election were excluded as the delegate congress did not hold as scheduled.

“But instead, fake and unknown persons were injected into a fake delegate list which was not even made available to the aspirants before the time scheduled for the primary election and even till I write this letter, ”

Politics / Slash ₦‎344 Billion NASS 2024 Budget – SERAP Tackles Akpabio, Abbas by Thonyboy: 6:23pm On Jan 14
Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has asked the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas to reduce the 2024 National Assembly budget of N344.85 billion.

Kolawole Oluwadare, SERAP Deputy Director, made this call in a statement on Sunday.

According to SERAP, the call is necessary following the current economic realities in the country and the need to cut the cost of governance.

SERAP faulted the arbitrary increase of the 2024 Budget by the National Assembly.

The group said the National Assembly should ask President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to present a fresh supplementary appropriation bill to reflect a reduced National Assembly allocation.

“The arbitrary increase by the lawmakers of their own budgetary allocation if not cut would have significant fiscal consequences and exacerbate the country’s debt crisis.

“SERAP urges you to clarify why N225 million is budgeted for the National Assembly E-Library and N3 billion is budgeted to buy books for the National Assembly Library while the ‘take-off grant’ for the National Assembly Library is N12.1 billion.

“The budget of N344.48 billion by members of the National Assembly is a fundamental breach of the Nigerian Constitution and the country’s international human rights obligations.

“According to our information, the National Assembly increased its own allocation in the 2024 budget to N344.48 billion. The new budgetary allocation to the National Assembly is over 70 per cent of the N197 billion proposed by President Bola Tinubu for the lawmakers in the budget proposal submitted to the National Assembly.

“The N344.48 billion National Assembly budget, which is an increase of about N147 billion, is reportedly the highest-ever budgetary allocation to the National Assembly,” SERAP said.

The development comes as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, two weeks ago, signed the N28.7 trillion 2024 budget into law.

Recall that the lawmakers had raised the N27.5 trillion 2024 budget proposed by President Tinubu to N28.7 trillion.

He thanked the church for honouring him and encouraged the people to continue believing in God’s power to do all things.

This was made known on Saturday in a post on X by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy to the President.

Onanuga said Tinubu, at a meeting in Abuja Friday, with governors of the All Progressives Congress revealed his plans to rejig Nigeria’s security architecture.

Politics / Supreme Court: Accept Your Defeat, Apologise For Your Attacks – APC To PDP by Thonyboy: 8:32am On Jan 13
In the aftermath of the Supreme Court judgments, the All Progressives Congress, APC, has said the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, should apologize to the judiciary for its senseless and irresponsible attacks during the electoral process.

APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the party has accepted the outcome of the Supreme Court’s judgment.

Morka expressed delight that in Lagos, Ebonyi and Cross River States, the Supreme Court upheld the election of the governorship candidates of the APC.

Morka, however, noted that the appeals on Kano, Zamfara, Bauchi, Plateau and Abia State governorship polls were decided in favour of other political parties and their candidates, saying the ruling party has accepted its fate.

In a statement, Morka said: “While the Apex Court’s decisions will undoubtedly elicit mixed reactions and reviews, the decisions are final and binding on all parties to the legal contests.

“The decisions today provide a strong affirmation of the authority, vibrancy and independence of the Judiciary.

“APC has been consistent in its position that the Judiciary must be left alone to perform its important duty of resolving disputes, including electoral disputes, as constitutionally mandated.

“The decisions today must serve as a rebuke to political opposition figures that vilified and denigrated our courts when judgments were handed against them in these same matters.

“Assuming that it has any spec of decency left, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) must tender an unreserved apology to the courts and our judges for the senseless, irresponsible, reckless and unjustified attacks it mounted against the Judiciary throughout this electoral cycle.

“We congratulate the winners, particularly our Governors, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, and Bassey Otu of Cross River State, and wish them the very best as they continue to serve their states and country. We urge everyone to remain calm and continue to maintain the peace.”

Politics / Almost All Ministers Transferred Money Into Private Accounts – Adeyanju To EFCC by Thonyboy: 6:40am On Jan 12
An Abuja-based rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, on Thursday said almost all the ministers under President Bola Tinubu’s administration transferred money into private accounts.

Adeyanju alleged that the ministers breach civil service laws but only the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu was caught.

In a statement he signed, the constitutional lawyer alleged that civil servants were behind the transfer of the funds.

He urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to investigate all federal ministries.

The statement reads partly: “From my findings on this matter, all minister under the Tinubu government transferred monies into private accounts on the advice of civil servants mostly the permanent secretaries of their ministries.

“I have also come to find out that these civil servants deliberately get politicians and political appointees to contravene civil service laws so as to have something over their heads in order to perpetrate corruption unchallenged.

“The EFCC must investigate all ministries and not just Humanitarian alone. Justice must not only be done in this case, but it must also be seen to be done.”

A leaked memo indicated that Edu approved the payment of N585 million social intervention funds into the private account of a civil servant.

President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, held a meeting with the Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, and the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru, during which he received a briefing on investment prospects in the steel sector.

The President emphasised that a revitalised steel development industry is both a catalyst for robust economic growth and a doorway to immense opportunities for Nigeria’s massive pool of talented entrepreneurs.

“We will remain unyielding in our determination to build a Nigeria where every citizen has an equal opportunity to prosper and achieve their dreams. New investments in steel production will spur the growth of so many sectors. Industrialisation will be a reality in our country with sufficient energy and steel. Nigerian steel will undergird our economy and other economies in our region in future. I am glad that members of my cabinet have adopted my approach to attracting new investments and job opportunities for our people. Hard work is the only true pathway. We will not relent,” the President stated.
