This is what happens when a country lacks men and women of integrity. How can we be playing musical chairs with our country's future? GMB had decided not to run after the 2011 elections for reasons best known to him. But for the interests of some to have CHANGE At Any Cost. (note Nigeria needed change unarguably but not at ANY cost) There were better people who could have beat GEJ |

It is instructive to note that the publicity of Lagos At 50 pales in comparison with Gov. Ambode's 2015 Gubernatorial campaign. One would have thought a whole Lagos State has more money for publicity than Ambode ![]() |
As outlined in the thread below https://www.nairaland.com/3734151/dogaras-challenge-el-rufai-presents-specifics El-Rufai supposedly published SPECIFICS of the Kaduna State Security Vote in response to Dogara's challenge. UNFORTUNATELY NO SUCH THING HAPPENED!!!! In the release from El-Rufai the following claim is made 5.Details of actual spending in 2015 for security and indeed every line item in the State budgets are also publicly available via the annual report of the Accountant-General accessible on www.kdsg.gov.ng. When you go to the link www.kdsg.gov.ng there is NO SUCH document!!! When you search for words mentioned in the release like 'drone' and 'cctv' the search returns this result - "sorry, but nothing matched your search terms. Please try again with some different keywords). The closest thing to what is described is the 2015 Audited Account of the State http://kdsg.gov.ng/kaduna-state-publishes-audited-accounts-for-y2015/ again there is NO SECURITY VOTE SPECIFICS or LINE ITEMS!!!!! The speaker has since published his payslip knowing fully well that this tells only a quarter of the story! but since El-Rufai can get away with throwing up dust and propaganda why not try? In all this, Nigeria and Nigerians loose out funny thing is they're too busy taking sides, hustling, watching BBN to pay attention. The only set of people who have steadily and consistently grown fat (in consonance with their bank balances) since 1999 are these POLITICIANS! You can FOOL all the people sometime and in Nigeria you can FOOL ALL the people ALL the time Propaganda is successful when a populace is uneducated and unenlightened and the so called elite have cut their deals. notice that the budget for education over successive governments has been relatively miniscule, this is no coincidence

monimekaz:Hmm... That would mean you have infinite hope in persons under 30. You'd be surprised! #NotTooYoungToRun makes the case for youth involvement in politics and overseeing the administration of the country. This does not imply that every one that's young or under 30 is better than the misfits we have in government. #DontGetItTwisted We need UPRIGHT & VISIONARY men and women, young and old |

Dino this Dino that Many have opinions on 'Dino Melaye', his tendencies and competence, Question is how come Dino Melaye is a Senator and you are simply left to make comments on Nairaland? Unless you're one of those who plan to do the same thing or worse don't you think you could do better than Dino Melaye? We need to redefine our actions on Social Media, Join A Political Party and Raise Competent Candidates for 2019 and get these misfits out. The problems can't be solved overnight but they can be solved nonetheless . A chief criteria of Politics is foresight and patience, we tend to forget the little seeds and look for big revolutions then get frustrated cos it seems this 'revolution' won't come. Political revolutions begin with as little as a mosquito bite and swirl into a whirlwind. 2 Years from now most people will wish they had started today. When do you think Tinubu started plotting the demise of the PDP with his grand mega party plan, do you realise he was scoffed at? You reading this, do you not think you're more intelligent than some of these leaders? so how come you're reading this and not vying for political office? Get UP! WAKE UP!!! ...or you think you can't be governor, senator or president? then don't complain when misfits lord it over you #NigeriaElections2019DoItYourself #NigeriaElections2019StartNow |

Falomo Bridge is getting a facelift, thanks to the remarkable art of Polly Alakija, and the Lagos State government. Apparently, the government is going all out for the Lagos at 50 celebrations, and Project Falomo is a notable part of it. According to reports, Alakija was commissioned by the Lagos Sate government to revamp the underside of Falomo Bridge, and that is exactly what the innovative artist is doing. The Nigerian, UK and South African based artist is vastly known for her mural paintings, something she says she really enjoys. According to her, painting objects demystifies painting. “For some reason painting with oils on canvases comes with an intrinsic value, an immediate expectation that this is “real” art. [But] Painting an old VW beetle is just fun!” She said of her murals during an interview. “I do love street art, murals, some graffiti art that I see happening. I enjoy the fact that it is ephemeral up to a point, that it can’t be owned, framed, hung up on a wall.” https://venturesafrica.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/polly-alakija-falomo-VA.jpeg Alakija at work Credit - Konbini https://venturesafrica.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/project-falomo-alakija-VA.jpeg Alakija at work Credit – Konbini During an interview last year, Alakija did say that she would love to find more iconic buildings to work on, “…An old building on Lagos Marina would make a stunning canvas, an old Brazilian house in Ibadan. It would be great to celebrate these buildings before they disappear due to much-needed redevelopment,” she said. Well, while Falomo Bridge is neither of those, it is iconic. And it certainly makes a stunning canvas. http://venturesafrica.com/project-falomo-polly-alakija-is-transforming-the-streets-of-lagos-one-paint-stroke-at-a-time/ |

The Lagos State Government has terminated the contract for the construction of a 48-bedroom hotel project at the VIP chalets in Badagry, which was awarded in 2013 to Messrs. Anatolia International Limited. The project is currently being promoted as part of measures by the Ambode-led administration to boost tourism within the Badagry axis. A statement issued on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, stated that the decision to terminate the contract followed a resolution taken at the State Executive Council meeting which held on Wednesday after an appraisal of progress report on the project. The statement said the pace of work was not commensurate with the amount already released for the project. It also cited inefficiency and overall poor performance by the contractor as reasons for the contract termination and the subsequent blacklisting of the said company. It maintained that one of the major policy thrusts of the current administration was tourism and hospitality sector development and that the government had left no one in doubt about its resolve to grow the state’s economy and empower the youths through several alternative means which include the tactical promotion of tourism, entertainment and sports. “The inability of Messrs. Anatolia International Limited to key into the vision of the present administration, as part of the efforts to fast-track the development of its tourism sector, necessitated the decision of the State Executive Council to terminate the contract,” the statement said. Ayorinde added that the current administration was resolved in its avowed mission to bring rapid infrastructural development to the state in a manner that gives zero-tolerance to insouciance and inefficiency. https://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2017/04/06/lagos-terminates-badagry-48-room-hotel-project-contract/

Workers of Lagos State Ministry of Environment, Emergency Flood Abatement Department (EFAD), on Tuesday staged a protest at the governor’s office, Alausa, Ikeja over non-payment of four months salary. The protesters who carried placards with various inscriptions such as ‘pay us our four months salary, how do we survive without salary, 14 years in service, nothing to show; Adejare must go’ and lots more complained of inhuman treatment. Coordinator, EFAD, Gbenga Orilade, who spoke with The Guardian, said: “The government is owing us four months salary. EFAD has been in existence for 14years yet we weren’t staffed. Anytime we visit the commissioner to tender our plight he would address us in an unruly manner that does not befit a public office holder. He even told us to go to court; that he is ready for us. At a time we delegated 19 people to his office, he gave them N50, 000. The only thing we want now is to collect our salary. If the Lagos State government does not want our service again they should let us know.” One of the delegates who visited the commissioner’s office, Esther Ayo, said: “I was one of those who went to the commissioner’s office. He claimed that the government hasn’t approved the fund. It is true that the commissioner gave us N50, 000. We protested sometimes in 2016. He came out and started raining curses on us and even forced us to say amen. We are not animals; we are human beings with families to take care of. The commissioner addresses us as if he is a thug. Also, it was in our presence that KAI and LASTMA were staffed; so why won’t the government also staff us.” Representing the state government, Special Adviser, Civil Engagement, Mr. Kehinde Joseph, who addressed the protesters, asked them to document their complaints and it would be forwarded to the appropriate quarters. “As I told you earlier, the governor will not be happy that you are being denied your right. We all know that the government pay salaries on 22nd and 23rd of each month, you are also under the Lagos State government. https://guardian.ng/news/lagos-workers-protest-unpaid-salaries/

agabusta:Assuming that there has indeed been a slight improvement does this merit an award as Best Minister? Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, SAN, has attributed progress so far recorded by the ministry under him to the collective and complementary efforts of all those who currently man the three arms of government – the executive, legislative and judicial, assuring Nigerians of greater things to come. According to a press release issued by his Special Assistant on Communication, the Minister stated this in his acceptance speech after being presented with the “Minister of the Year” award at the 20th City People Awards for Excellence in Lagos on Sunday. Advertisement The minister who was represented at the occasion by his Special Adviser on Housing, Mr. Abiodun Oki, dedicated the award to the entire government body whom he likened to a football team, saying just like in a football march, there would be no good striker, midfielder and defender in a team that did not do well. Dedicating the Award, first to President Muhammadu Buhari for “picking a team of ministers whose commitment to change is unquestionable” and the Vice President for demonstrating “his ability to complement this vision of change and his dedication to help midwife it.” Fashola noted that “it is the team and the work they do together that allows any striker, midfielder or defender to thrive”. The minister declared, “Therefore collective success must be, and is indeed, more important than individual recognition.” https://www.today.ng/news/nigeria/283592/fashola-attributes-power-sectors-success-team-work

agabusta:Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, Chapter 1, Part 2 Sections 4, 9, 11 set out clearly the powers of the National Assembly to make Laws. One such Law is the Powers & Privileges Act which is an act of Parliament THAT DOES NOT in this instance run contrary to Sections 88, 89. |
Lalalsticlala front page please |
It is good when people attempt to think objectively |
Now (latter part of this thread) we're debating points of law and for that I'm glad. With regard to superiority of the Constitution this holds when an enabling act runs CONTRARY to provisions in the constitution, at this point the Constitution holds sway. In the case of Section 88/89 this deals clearly with FINANCIAL issues and the power to investigate, the Power & Privileges Act does not deal with financial issues. The point is that the two are not in conflict for if they were then the WHOLE idea of the Power & Privileges act is nullified. If that is the case, it means, the Senate CANNOT summon anybody at all unless for FINANCIAL oversight when laws are being made or administered. omogidi234: |
