TravelRe: Share Your Experiences - UK Driver's Licence by Ticha: 6:37pm On May 19, 2013
Passed first time BUT - I started driving immediately I got to the UK on an international driving licence. I drove everyday (work) for 9 months before starting lessons. I had 25 lessons of 2 hours each time and my driving test was done on a day it snowed! It helped me as I took my time to do every single thing! It took me 4 months. You can do it. Practise, practise, practise and you will succeed!
TravelRe: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part2 by Ticha: 2:13pm On May 18, 2013
P406: Justwise,
I need your advice on something . my wife is a nurse trained here in Nigeria and now we decided
she should do a BSc program in the UK. we got this program at the University of Worcester that is
called a top up program for BSc Nursing that is one year. Now I thought we would go through UCAS but apparently we are
just to pay fees then the application for visa.
I am set to make the payment but I thought it may help to get some other peoples opinion.
I hope this is for real. Your help is much appreciated.
thanks
The school is real and the course is as well. See this link http://www.worcester.ac.uk/courses/nursing-studies-bsc-hons.html
My sister is just rounding up from Worcester and 2 friends have just finished the Nursing course too. It has to be the overseas Nurse course option 2 if she plans to work here after. Make sure you check it properly!

Oops sorry Justwise, I know it was directed to you!
TravelRe: List Of Visa Requirement For Morocco Tourist Visa by Ticha: 2:03pm On May 18, 2013
I applied from the UK so not sure if the process is different from applying in Nigeria. I applied in December 2012.

I submitted:
3 passport photos
National passport which should be valid for at least 6 months from your proposed return date
3 months bank statement
Marriage certificate - cos my passport is in maiden name and UK visa in married name and was travelling with hubby
Itinerary - I included the booking from the travel company. It was all paid for upfront including flights
3 months payslip
Health insurance

It was issued after 2 days. We spent Christmas and New Year there so it's recent.
FamilyRe: Women: What Was Your Contribution To Your Brideprice Situation? by Ticha: 1:42pm On May 18, 2013
My father is not the oldest male in the family so I called his uncle and discussed with him. I informed stylishly in the discussion that:

1. I am coming home primarily to pay my respects to the family and not sully their name so they should please reciprocate
2. Any mention of box or clothes list, I will cancel my ticket cos I'm already living with him
3. We have paid for the white wedding (didn't marry in church, had a civil ceremony in the UK) so if dem no gree, I will still be married in the eyes of the law
4. We have no money!

He agreed with me and said the family's desire is to see all their daughters happily married and if that is what I wanted, I'll get it. I didn't believe initially. He had some years earlier almost stopped my cousin's wedding midway cos the grooms' mother's goat ate his crops and she refused to pay donkey years before that day!

Come wedding day, no mention of clothes, boxes, yams, goat or even palm wine. Yams, goats and palmie were still supplied by the groom and his small delegation that came. Bride price was N200 negotiated down from N50k. I was even happy to plan with my hubby to pretend to walk out if they were intractable! Luckily, it didn't come to that grin The total cost of our traditional wedding was N250k.

Ladies, it is in our hands. I always tell my female friends that our blessings are not supposed to make us suffer. Marriage is indeed a blessing, why would I want to spoil it by not speaking up to remove any angst and potential worries for the sake of just one day that will be remembered by only both of us?
HealthRe: Weight Loss/gain For Ladies Trying To Conceive by Ticha: 6:38pm On May 09, 2013
Fresh pineapple contains bromelain which causes contractions. Juicing it removes that enzyme. My consultant has asked me to drink lots of pineapple juice to aid implantation. I drink a litre daily diluted in a litre of water so that's my 2 litres of water done.

Metformin is used to regulated the cycles of wowmn suffering from pcos. As you know pcos causes weight gain, irregular periods, hormonal abnormalities and hair growth in undesireable areas eg face. It is also used to treat diabetes. I will strongly urge you not to take it if it is not prescribed. Remember, you are trying to get your body ready for conception not the other way round!

Yoy are getting on well, Shey na you don reach 68kg so? Just keep it at slowly and steadily and you'll get there!

PoliticsRe: Protest Over Death Of Nigerian In UK Prison Custody by Ticha: 7:39am On Apr 25, 2013
callmenow: How good is your knowledge. According to the Causelist of the Newcastle Crown Court, he was facing a three count charge. We may never what really transpired in this matter. Quick search on Google showed that he was a significant man. He has been donating books to University of Makurdi. He has also donated to other good causes. Death in custody in a police cell or prison is always referred for independent investigation. All the stakeholders in this forum must remember that death awaits everyone of us. Do not speak ill of the dead. People may also speak ill of you, when the inevitable occurs. We must also cut the Nigeria High Commission (NHC) some slack. UK is a sovereign nation. The NHC can not overstep their legal position by interfering with internal UK processes. A reputable lawyer should be procured to unravel what happened. Alternatively, his MP should also be persuaded to write to prison for answers, which by Law, they must provide within 2 weeks, or sooner. When facts change, be prepared to change your mind.
There are very few Idomas in the UK, I being one of them. 2ndly even though I haven't seen him for 3 years, I have known Bonny for a very long time. We both started our masters together in 2006. This was what we were told. 2 counts of rape and 1 of possessing indecent pictures of minors. To be honest, whether he killed himself or not is a moot point now, he is still dead. It's both painful and instructive that even though we (Idomas) have kept in touch sporadically, nobody knew he was going through this. Who knows, we may have been able to raise money to get a lawyer then and we won't be having this discussion as like someone said women are not above claiming rape. We have seen lots of that in recent times here.

By the way, I am not speaking ill of him. Who would procure the lawyer? Would you contribute if asked to? The NHC can still find out what happened and are best positioned to make sure his name is cleared if he has been unjustly accused.
PoliticsRe: Protest Over Death Of Nigerian In UK Prison Custody by Ticha: 8:06pm On Apr 24, 2013
To the best of my knowledge, he was denied bail because he was accussed of raping his flatmate. Apparently, she said no and he didn't stop. He was also accussed of possessing child pornography on his laptop. He apparently also committed suicide a day before the jury were due to reach a verdict.
I know him very well and can't say whether he did it or not. The Nigerian High Commission is not doing anything or even trying to get any info.
HMP is threatening to cremate him cos nobody is coming forward for the corpse. The Idoma community has decided to raise money to repatriate the corpse home.

Hello House,

I need some advice please! My younger brother is currently studying an undergraduate course in Software Engineering at American University of Nigeria Yola. Their summer holidays are quite long (May to August). In a bid to keep him busy, I am proposing he learns a foreign language by going for an immersion language course for 8 weeks so he will live with a host family and attend 20 language classes a week in either Latin America or Spain for Spanish and France or Switzerland for French. Now the question is which international language is best to learn. French or Spanish?

Happy Birthday Twingirls! Dancing etighi for you!!!

Napa, apparently your BMI needs to be between 18.5 and 24 to be in optimum weight for ttc. I do however know a lot of women whose BMI is closer to 30 and have had successful pregnancies. NHS clinics in the UK stipulate that your BMI must be under 30 some private clinics will accept up to 35. However, I have not heard of any that will accept over 35. You can check for your BMI online. The maths pass my power!

I am currently 69kg and have stopped dieting so I know I won't lose more but my food portions are still very small!
HealthRe: Weight Loss/gain For Ladies Trying To Conceive by Ticha: 3:52pm On Apr 11, 2013
Welcome Muma!

I dey o! Start downregging next week so have up my protein intake which means I have put on weight. Will sort that after ttc. I tried kettle bell last week and my muscles complained. Muscles I didn't even know existed!!!
Anyway, feel much better now and have started doing squats at home.
Well done everybody!
Twingirls, Two are you eating enough calories? Your metabolism slows down if you don't eat enough which in turn stops you from losing weight. It's a catch 22 situation!
Foreign AffairsRe: This God Forsaken Country Called BRITAIN. by Ticha: 8:39am On Apr 04, 2013
When I first moved to the UK, I stuck to one energy supplier and consistently got ripped off until I was advised not to stick to one.

Has anyone considered changing suppliers? I change mine annually and pay less for it. I also fix the tariff for 12 months. I have never paid more than £100 monthly for electricity and gas and I have my heating on all year round.
Example - I was paying £350 for my home insurance, this year I used a comparison website and I finally paid £195 for the whole year. As I went through Quidco, I also got a £60 cash back.

I change my accounts regularly too. I am now with Satander and get cash back on my bills including mortgage and groceries. When they stop paying the cash back, I will close that account and move on. Loyalty to service providers does not pay. Shop around always.

twingirls: @ Ticha, my daily calories intake is to be 1,318, its not easy to calculate calories I̶̲̥̅̊n̶̲̥̅̊ naija food! I only try to estimate a̶̲̥̅̊₪d̶̲̥̅̊ try not to go beyond 1000 daily, are you telling me dis ϔ☺ΰя̩̥̊ scanty daily intake i see is up to 1300 calories? I was beginning to think you live on tea(different type) me na water o, but i wil increase my fruit a̶̲̥̅̊₪d̶̲̥̅̊ veggies a̶̲̥̅̊₪d̶̲̥̅̊ see how it goes
Hehe, I am not quite living on tea yet! I may soon get there though! It is 1200 most times. Yesterday was 1520 cos the chocolates alone was 708! shocked

I think 1000 is too low oh. Why you still dey shine eye at past midnight? Abi no work today?

Shebi you know that our weight fluctuates daily especially women, we can be heavier during ovulation and menstruation due to bloating. When do you weigh yourself? Make sure you do it at the same time that should also give you a true representation.
HealthRe: Weight Loss/gain For Ladies Trying To Conceive by Ticha: 8:40pm On Mar 26, 2013
favored gal: i need to join this forum o! i and 6 feet 5 inches, used to weigh 68kg avergaely but became around 70kg/72kg when i started dating my husband, for the wedding i had 4 months of intense exercise and weighed 66kg.

After now, i have added 9kg and i weigh 75kg, its terrible, i have stopped exercising cuz it used to make my period disappear.
I eat once a day, but i hear its a recipe for disaster as it slows down metabolism. so going forward now, i have decided i'l be eating 3 small meals a day, eliminate rice completely from my diet, eat fish instead of meat and let's see how that goes. i am also on 1500mg of metformin

But i will do the one week of fruit diet t detox first starting on good friday
Welcome dear!

How often and how long were you exercising for? Strenuous exercise is not conducive for ttc oh. Food once a day? That is not good enough my sister. Your body needs vital nutrients to nourish and keep a pregnancy as well as produce a healthy baby. Eat as much as your body needs. If you will eat very small meals then it has to be more than 3 times a day so your body can get the right nutrients it needs!

@ Twingirls, you will be fine o. If you keep a diary, look and see what you have done differently and vary it. Sometimes, when we eat too little, our body responds by hoarding food which then makes you add weight. Na evolution - have you checked what your basic calorie intake should be daily? You should be hitting the calorie target daily and if exercising, then you should eat more to make sure you are not starving yourself.

So my calorie intake daily should be 1320 (for weight loss) If I expend 300 calories exercising, this means I have to eat 1620 calories for that day because my body needs that just to function - breathing, digestion etc

Hope I'm making sense, this week is being hard on me

Breakfast - very late 11am
1 cup milo, 1 fruit tea, 1 peach, 1 nectarine and 1 apple

Nothing so I ate the 2nd half box of chocolates and 1 orange and 1 fruit teas

HealthRe: Weight Loss/gain For Ladies Trying To Conceive by Ticha: 11:12pm On Mar 24, 2013
@ Blessedmom, twingirls is right oh. Do not skip meals if you feel hungry. You can nibble or snack on healthy foods otherwise your body will go into starvation mode and start hoarding food by converting it to fat and storing them which of course will undermine your good work! When I was starting out, I ate like 5 or 6 times daily so ate like 4-6 fruits in a day topped up with salad and the weight still dropped off. I never ate enough to fill me but enough to stop me feeling very hungry, tired and having headaches.

Breakfast - 1 cup of milo, 1 cup fruit tea, I banana and 1 peach
Lunch - Quinoa, lots of veg, chicken and tripe soup
Dinner - cheesecake (my pudding from lunch)
2 cups water, several cups of tea
Exercise - Cleaned the house from top to bottom and spent the afternoon playing with my friends daughter! Even me tire

@ Smiler, you post put joy in heart this afternoon! It will be good news for you tomorrow!
I have had a rollercoaster 2 weeks. One of my students is pregnant and is 17. She is also in foster care and has been since age 3. I have had to attend scans with her cos no one else will and uptil yesterday, she wasn't sure if she would keep then baby. She is 24 weeks so can't terminate now.
Of course, being in a postion of authority over her, I can't even advice unless I wan lose job!
Then went for my appointment and consultant wants me to wait till next cycle before starting again which is mid next month. It seems so far away!
I'm taking the opportunity to eat right and lose another 2kg off my weight.
