Thank you so much for this Iyaniwura.
This brings back some nostalgic memories of my childhood.Back then,my mum being an English and Literature teacher would bring home recommended texts and in less than a week I would have read it twice. Thanks to my mum,in no time my room was a massive library of books, inclusive of pacesetters and books from even the yoruba genre(J.O Fagunwa,Faleti and co) and my cousins, uncles and Aunt would borrow and well...never returned.
I remember Buchi Emecheta's "second class citizen" and I imagined how it must have felt like to see the manuscript of her first book burned off by her husband.I read that book over 12 times.Such memories of growing up.

I am trying to build a library of books from African writers for my little girl, thank goodness for amazon, found a couple and pacesetters inclusive,if not anything to give her a feel amongst other things of how growing up was for me.

More ink to your pen and sorry for my epistle just couldn't help relieve some of those lovely memories. smiley

ifihearam: I just pity some nigerians, well there is nothing your abuses will do to the life of the president, whether you abuse him or not he is still the president and will be till 2019 no amount of juju or curse can turn it otherwise. The most annoying or funny thing as the case may be is that no one in your entire generation up to the 5th will ever produce a president and it really hurts me.

Waoh!Waoh!Waoh!
Who let the dogs out from Aso Rock?Perhaps the BH boys!
Ironically, same also applies to you,its a good thing you already carved out a good career path for yourself as a professional butt-licker and glorified town crier.

What is bad is bad, there is no two ways about it,quit insulting people's intelligence please and tell Oga Jona the truth nowwww, its not so hard to do!

Sincere 9gerian: A careful analysis of all those who ABUSE, CURSE and INSULT Mr president on this forum and other fora will CONFIRM that these were THE SAME persons who FIERCELY OPPOSED Mr president during the 2011 elections. Some persons in the opposition camp, including some of the 12million Nigerians that voted for opposition candidates in the 2011 elections, have refused to accept the humiliating DEFEAT they suffered in that election. These SORE LOSERS, have refused to accept the FACT that 2011 elections had been WON and LOST. They have carried the BATTLE and WAR pre-2011 elections into post-2011 era. Other countries unite immediately AFTER any election for the purpose of NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT but the we dont see that in Nigeria.
Ladies and gentlemen, permit to reiterate for the uptenth time and for the benefit of those who are still living in DENIAL, that the 2011 elections had been WON and LOST.
The 2011 elections had been WON and LOST...
The 2011 elections had been WON and LOST...
The 2011 elections had been WON and LOST...
The 2011 elections had been WON and LOST...
2011 Election is OVER. Pls can we UNITE for NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT?
I didn't support Buhari during the 2011 elections, but I cant imagine myself engaging in abuses, insults, BAD-BELLEISM and MISCHIEF had Buhari won that election.
Shame on all SORE LOSERS!!

Dude or Dudette, just how much were you paid for this?!
I read all your posts and its more than obvious you are one of the numerous stooges paid to do the job of forcing Jonathan on people.
Haba! No be by force o!why not let Jonathan's works speak for him?Even if you are the professional town crier,Jonathan has still got to let his actions speak louder than YOUR own words and that of others combined.

People are not blind and even those not fortunate to see can feel the not so pleasant vibes from Jonathan's administration so my dear glorified town crier what's with your rants exactly?!

All over the world, world leaders have experienced harsh criticisms,OBJ has always been the butt of jokes(at least I know you would have had the priviledge to attend one of Basketmouth's comedy shows,as a VIP too,LOL.Allow me to boost your profile) have you ever heard the guy take offence?!
If your Boss is not receptive to criticisms with a view to learning from his errors then I wonder how he intends to run again in the coming elections except of course he intends to force himself on the citizenry.

Mr Oga,please read me well, you and your Boss appear to be on a collision course, there might still be grace to slow down and reflect with a view to making changes but if you still insist Nigerians are wrong and Jonathan is right, then its fair to say"May Nigerians remain a solid rock and Jonathan and your likes an egg..." Please do me the favour of completing that sentence and relaying the message to your boss!
Family / Re: My Husband Spits On My Face During Quarrels by Ticklishmummy(f): 7:18pm On Dec 29, 2012
OP,first of all I have to say I kind of feel sad that a woman like me is going through this. Its just unacceptable and its good you are speaking up.

Just so you know,no relationship is devoid of its own challenges, but the most important thing is getting the right help and at the right time.God forbid me to tell you to consider divorce, not because I belong to the school of thought advocating enduring marriage but because you are in a better position to decide what's best for you and when the time is right at that.

Let me ask you a question, this husband of yours, has he ever attempted to hit you?If the answer is yes,you need to be very careful and seek help asap.If your answer is no you also need to be extra careful because violent people will tend to get to that point(first it starts with destroying items and trust me that stage of hitting others will come) because at that point when all such a person knows is blind fury, anything can happen and it will be blamed on the devil, that will never be your portion.

Let me tell you, forget about reporting him to church, friends and the likes.Get your parents and his to meet, except of course it was marriage of "no-choice" if not,if it indeed happened that they asked for your hand in marriage, please, ejo, biko ensure your parents tell his entire family that NEVER again must it happen. In this case, the two families are the parties concerned, serious family meeting must be held abeg.

I bet your husband didn't know that now, abuse, assult or domestic violence(whichever one) once reported is now regarded as a very serious offence purnishable by jail term.If you had ever called the police when he was throwing any of his tantrums, trust me he would never ever try it again, the next time,he feels like it,he would pick up his car keys and just go for a long drive to douse his temper (I know this because it happened to my cousin's friend here in London, infact the wife regretted calling the police because the guy was only allowed to speak to a lawyer,he escaped jail by grace, the wife begged and begged that she wanted her husband back and all sorts, infact she was asked if she would like a restraining order placed on the guy,if she wanted to be re-housed etc.and according to the couple it was just a little spat gone out of hand but he's NEVER abused his wife again since then, anytime they think WWE is about to occur, someone leaves the house asap LOL).
Again, this will never be your portion but just a heads up you need to seek help asap.

Then about your personal wellbeing,I think you need to speak to your GP.You might not necessarily tell them you are having marital issues because, they will keep suggesting you might be battling with depression(typical of them) and try to get you on some anti-depressants.Just talk to them and see if they can get you referred to support groups where you can get neutral, friendly advice and support, meet with people, build a network outside of your comfort zone which will help you boost your self esteem and morale.I purposely did not mention church because I know they way people are here, you tell someone about your issue and you can be sure sister something is indirectly making reference to it.

Asides that,if you don't work presently, please try to get a job,if there is anything a woman needs financial independence is one of it.You might not realise it but it goes a long way in a relationship. No matter how little, you know you are earning something for yourself and not depending totally on your hubby.

Lastly, don't forget that family meeting, its important,at least his parents will be able to talk some sense into him and make him realise the potential dangers he is embracing with his volcanic acts of eruption.

My sister it is well.
Thank you for reading my epistle too smiley

Does it not apply to the other party? Oh,because I am a woman so I must keep silent?Yes there are times when silence is golden.Along the line,I agreed the whole thing made sense but then waking up again this morning and then picking up from yesterday is not right.

Tough woman?!!!

I dey laugh... More like a rabid biitch (female dog).. Woman, leave the internet alone and go attend to your husband. You have embarrassed the poor man enough. Showing off your poor sense of understanding and also showing you reason more with your rectum than with cerebral cortex.

I suggest you hire a 'reasonable nurse' to help raise your kid.. Reading all your tirade on this thread, I wouldnt want you raising my dog, let alone raising a kid. What exactly would you be teaching the child?!

Like I said, I dont envy the man that paid his hard earned money to marry you.. Spending your bride price on a Chihuahua would have been a more profitable investment.. Atleast a Chihuahua puppy sells for almost 200,000 Naira..

Have you ever considered a s*x change operation? It would do you a lot of good, cos I sense you are in the wrong body, you've got the full qualities of a woman, most importantly the nagging.
If you wish,I would be willing to sponsor your trip to thailand so you can get a new lease of life.

Insult me till tomorrow I don't care, you remain a non-entity who I met on a thread desperate to shove some silly opinion down my throat.I have given you enough audience by replying you already.People like always like to learn the hard way.
Trust me you have officially bitten more than you can chew,go ahead and meet your impending doom.Savour it while it lasts.
Now keep typing into thin air.You are permanent ignored.

U were wrong in your first statement and the first response to that was nt an insult.Unfortunately,ur response was rather wrong.U really need humility which I can say u don't have.It will take u a long way in life.

Well said dude, thanks for pointing that out.
I wasn't expecting you to praise me either but just cos you don't know me and you are simply judging over a faceless forum,I guess it would be ok for me ask you to please endeavour not to judge anyone next time,it is not right.

Like I said, you are a juvenile delinquent who is incapable of logical reasoning.. And since you are a female, I guess you can blame it on your hormones or PMS. I never insulted you in my first post to you. Anyways, my regards to your husband and kid, they have the rest of their lives to put up with you. I really dont envy them at all.

You will agree that I am in a better situation compared to you as a considerable number of Nigerians will have to put up with you for the rest of their lives. On the contrary,I feel sorry for them. Its not too much of you to be a gentleman and accept that along the way you insulted me and I returned it in full dose, rather that insinuating my outburst was because I am a woman. That don't make me lesser than you and truth be told you are human which means you are not perfect just like me.
Yet again, you resorted to insults in a bid to reply me,I would consider that immature.I know you would find it hard to admit but you must have realised I am a tough woman but you would also have realised on this thread that I appreciate other people's opinion and respect their views.
I have been on other threads, made meaningful contributions without insults,I know when to share a joke as well and I also know when to draw the line.
Like I said,it really is a nice day where I am,you should make yours the same as well.
Stop spewing insults and its so unhealthy to carry over left over hatred.Bad vibes for you.
By the way, thanks for making me trend on NL,wish I could say it was nice reading your piece of whatever but I would be lying.
Have a nice day and see u on another thread!

Did you say you were a deliquent again and that you lacked the common sense to understand everyone has the right to their own opinion? Or you think,It was right for you to have rudely insinuated I go OD on paracetamol and see how it works for me.
Now I gave you a piece of your poison and then you start whining like a baby.
Oh,I never realised that's how Nigerians address each other, with total disrespect and trying to shove your opinions on others simply cos you are trying to make a point.
You are one of the many millions of Nigerians spoiling that country. If you can interact with someone who you cannot even see like this then I can only wonder how you manage face to face Interaction.

tony_m1: CAPITAL NO .... OUR REPUTATION SPEAKS FOR ITSELF.

WATCHING A PROGRAMME YESTERDAY ON ITV AND THE PRESENTER TOOK A CALL WHILE ON AIR JOKING ABOUT NIGERIAN'S 419 SCAM

Something similar happened last year on "I am a celebrity get me out of here" when Ant and Dec made reference to their credit cards being used by Nigerian scammers.Next day,I emailed the producers of the show and I expressed my discontent over such.I made it a point to mention that scam is not peculiar to Nigeria alone. It might not have yielded something big as I would have wished but I got a reply and an apology, they also tried to justify why that had happened.Who cares? But I did my bit as a Nigerian. At least they know that Nigeria doesn't only breed bad apples, bad apples abound everywhere.
No matter how small,Change starts with each individual/Nigerian.The way we interact with people, being empathetic to the needs of others, appreciating people beliefs and trying as much as possible not to ruin our family names. It doesn't cost too much to be patrotic but it can yield positive results for the collective good of the country.

afrodoc: and ticklishmummy pharmacies are allowed to and should stock rohypnol,it is just a sedative/anxiolytic/muscle relaxant like Valium and Lexotan.
stocking it on their shelves in no way contravenes the law and they shouldn't b vilified for that.their error was handing it to those guys without prescription(and by the way there a 1001 ways those guys could have come by a prescription too if they had to).
lets look at what really happened here.
1)the pharmacists sold SLEEPING TABLETS to someone without prescription.an unethical and unprofessional act which nevertheless is carried out by possibly more than 50 percent of pharmacies in the country.
is this the same as MURDERING or CONSPIRING TO MURDER someone? NO
2)lets not forget that this drug did not actually cause this poor woman's death, she was BEATEN to death.
the moment Cynthia was in the hotel room with those beasts she was doomed.what that drug did was enable them to rape her repeatedly, they would have beaten her to death with or without the drug

Afrodoc,I have to give it to you.You have done an excellent job of convincing me.Thumbs up!
Did you say,the drug enabled them to rape her repeatedly? smiley
Perhaps it aided their actions afterall.
Don't worry,I get your point and I hope I was at least able to make a little bit of sense to you. What matters at the end of the day is we were able to make meaningful and mature conversation, respecting each others view points. You have my admiration.

Zeus I: Arrant nonsense! This is the cause of anti-progress in our soceity, imagine what a rational animal is spilling. I might propose the banning of drug production in Nigeria because, some 'Obnoxious Substances' finds its way into the wrong hands, or better still ban the production/ purchasing of ammunitions by the Federal Government because some insane policemen issues the masses, now and then, the ticket of 'accidential discharge', right? This proposal is unacceptable to the bench for lacking substance and reason in the sheme of things, and is therefore declared null.*hits the gravel*kpooo!* the court shall rise!

Thank goodness I do not belong to your twisted society where archaic and irrelevant laws hold sway.

Wish you the very best and perhaps exercise a little patience at least till you are able to graduate from your society's law school before you begin to slam you stone-age gavel and not GRAVEL my dear learned friend.

afrodoc:

well stated but i dont agree fully with you.cos its not the job of a judge to correct the mistakes of the Nigerian system.the judge can't say "oh because i know PCN won't do a good job in punishing this 2 men for NEGLIGENCE and MALPRACTICE and because i know they won't ensure these guys do not practice again if stripped of their licence i should convict them of MURDER".
things are not done like that.u can't wrongfully convict a man of a greater crime cos u suspect he will go unpunished for a lesser crime.

I understand your point. The truth is the trend I see here is this whole case will die a natural death and then something else will happen and then we would all start referring to it again.
Even in stores here, which we like to refer to as supermarkets back home if you intend to buy alcohol ,trust me you will have to produce a form of proof of identity to show you are well above 18 before you can step out with it.That's alcohol, how much more meds.

I don't know how the law works in Nigeria but I am pretty sure it would have been different else where,I don't hate the pharmacists neither do I know the girl in question. In the same vein,I haven't insinuated the Judge should charge them for murder, but they should also have been made to bear the brunt of their action no matter how small.

Now that it sounds like their fate lies with the pharmaceutical council let's see what comes out of it.

afrodoc: pls let the insults stop, its nt achieving anything.
@ticklish i am not trying to insult u or anything but don't u think its wrong to just say "this is my opinion and i am not willing to listen to any other point of view"? u should read the posts of the guys i mentioned earlier i.e coogar, babymama e.t.c on dis matter.and an informative and useful discourse would be achieved if u respond to those that have outlined d reasons why they disagree with you rather than responding to those who are just exchanging insults with u

Thank you very much for this.I realised there were some really insightful comments on this thread and they did make a point.I do not claim to be perfect but that is not an excuse for anyone to insult me,I take objection to that and would not condone it.
We can all make meaningful contributions and make others see the point we are trying to make without being spiteful. In the part of the world where I stay, things like this are not taken lightly.I am pretty sure no matter how little it might have been they would have gotten some correctional purnishment (and their licence revoked immediately)because their carelessness has indirectly contributed to loss of life and it should serve as a warning to other who ply this line of trade.I might have come across as being sentimental in my line of reasoning but that should never be percieved as a weakness which is what has happened today on this thread.
So what if these guys had their licence revoked and then they go to another part of the country, open a chemist and they start these whole isshh again, cos by then anyway they wouldn't be liable for anything that happens to anyone(afterall they already have their licence revoked) so whose fault would it be?Truth is issues like these have to be properly addressed with a view to avoiding a further occurrence, its not like 100 people were involved in this case which means if they had to narrow the people involved they will still be named because they chose(as they would probably have always done) to sell controlled drugs without insisting on a prescription.
Yes,I know the main reason people have been hurling insults at me is because they think the pharmacists did not play any role. All they simply did that got them in the polic nest was sell the drug. How could they have possibly known that those guys had an ulterior motive? After all people go to shops and buy sleeping tablets.Yes! But in this case they sold controlled drugs to people like they would dispense OTC drugs. As long as those sleeping drugs readily available to dispense OTC have not been classified as controlled then your guess is as good as mine for whoever chooses to go OD on them.
All being said, since there is so much faith in the pharmaceutical council I can only wait and see how this whole thing turns out but I honestly hope I would not have to say "but I said it then..."

So if you were the judge, u'd sentence the pharmacists to death for selling controlled drugs? Why not arrest and jail Mark Zuckerberg too for making Facebook through which she met them? Try being reasonable at times. Its not too much to ask.

Just the same way if your relations were involved you would be singing a different song. Why dont you put that girl who is in the mortuary into consideration?

I dont have the time to chat with people who are so blinded with stupid sentiments, that is the major reason why Nigeria is the way it is now. ''Man know man'' ,blaming everything on the devil, people never standing up to take responsibility for their actions which cost other people their lives, wellbeing and the likes, asking God for all sorts etc....''

If something is WRONG it is F TO THE U TO THE C TO THE K TO THE I TO THE N TO THE G TO THE EFFING WRONG,dont feed me some with sob stories!

At this point, you will do well to settle down..

- Every drug has the potential to kill.. If in doubt, go and swallow 20 tablets of Paracetamol and tell me how that works out for you..

- The boys simply sold 'PRESCRIPTION DRUGS' to 'Policemen' who were carrying out a sting operation.

- There is no crime in selling prescription drugs without a prescription, especially when it was sold to adults. Its called 'MALPRACTICE'.

- There is no direct evidence that links these Pharmacists to the Perps apart from 'The words of the Perps'.

- They may have sold the drugs to them, does not make them an accomplice to murder. A man who sells a car to a 14 year old boy cannot be charged with murder if the boy kills someone whilst driving the car.

- They might still be punished by the Phamaceutical Association of Nigeria, but not by the Police.

Case closed..

You will also have to get your faceless self RE-CHECKED back into rehab cos it appears to me that your unknown extinct self is high on cheap drugs.
Someone like you and me lies stone dead in the mortuary because a half baked self professed pharmacist choose to sell controlled drugs to some idiots and you are here chatting shit to me with some bogus and UNACCEPTABLE TERMS! Feel free to chat me more dust but you can be rest assured that I am fired up to reply people like you who find it so convinient to find an excuse for everything under the sun which also explains why you have gone ahead to create a new ID to reply me.Too bad this is a faceless forum.

Do me a favour, stick your 'faceless' face where the sun don't shine!

colly227: The two men, Maduakor Chukwunonso and Orji Osita who are pharmacists of Oxpharm Pharmacy, were accused of selling Rohpynol Flunitrazepam-a sedative without proper prescription and were eventually charged with murder and felony.

Speaking to Channels TV after their release, counsel to the pharmacists, Uchenna Nwoye said the pharmacists were released based on the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution.

According to Mr Nwoye, the presiding Judge, Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo of the Lagos High court, had on the 20th of November ruled that “there was no evidence where the pharmacists had an agreement with the first and second defendants to kill the late Ms Osokogu.”

He further ruled that the pharmacists have no case to answer and decided ordered that the pharmacists should be discharged.

Counsel to the two pharmacists had proceeded to the High Court following the delay of the Magistrate Court led by Magistrate Aka-Bashorun to grant the prayer of the defendants following the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution.

The duo were earlier charged with the other defendants for unlawfully killing Cynthia Osokogu by administering her with an obnoxious substance known as Rohpynol Flunitrazepam tablets which was used to sedate her before her rape and murder.

Officials of the Pharmaceuticals Society of Nigeria, however shield the discharged Pharmacists from talking to our correspondent.

I am not sure if I understand this post but shouldn't there be something called controlled drugs? drugs that should NEVER be made available to buy over the counter if it is possible to cause even the slightest harm to the human body. These drugs should ONLY be available by prescription.

FEEL FREE TO CRUCIFY ME PLEASE but this aint right! They should be purnished for selling out a potentially harmful drug JUST LIKE THAT!!

“there was no evidence where the pharmacists had an agreement with the first and second defendants to kill the late Ms Osokogu.”

Really? What a big stinking joke!! But they sold the killers a drug which was termed as an obnoxious substance (Rohpynol Flunitrazepam tablets) which by virtue should never have found its way to their shelfs. Why stock it in first place. I dont believe this is their first time really and this whole case just reeks of something I can't place my hand on.
