Why not provide details of how he was a sound and visionary leader that impacted Ogun people much more than Onabanjo did in the provision of services and utilities huh
I updated my response with the information below. I believe this is NOT about OGD vs Onabanjo. So let's focus on what you like or dislike about OGD.

timbabng:
No Administration is perfect. However, OGD was a sound and visionary leader. He provided cheap housing for civil servants, focused on education, created jobs, built the new secretariat, stable power project, saved collapsing institutions like gateway hotels, Olumo Rock, and others.

A venomous snake bite is never “ordinary.” Death can occur wuthin 30 minutes from severe neurotoxic complications, as tragically happened in her case.
Anyone who thinks a federal hospital in Nigeria does not have anti-venom does not know what they are saying.
PoliticsRe: Low VAT Doesn’t Mean Low Economic Contribution: The South East Nigeria Case by timbabng(m): 9:34pm On Jan 31
lawani:
I know the consumer pays but how can the producer be sure of the location of consumption?. Then VAT measures value added production and you have to credit that one to the location of the producer. If you turn ten naira to one million by value addition it will mean you pay high VAT. Who do you credit that to if not the producer?
I think you are mixing it up. Tax on Value added production is removed from what's remitted to the FIRS.

If you bought raw materials for N1000 and paid N75 VAT.
You used the raw materials to make a product of N3000 that you eventually sold.

The VAT on that N3000 is N225 but you will remove your initial N75 VAT and remit only N150 to the government.
PoliticsRe: Low VAT Doesn’t Mean Low Economic Contribution: The South East Nigeria Case by timbabng(m): 9:14pm On Jan 31
ernieboy:
that is a lie bro, because the companies are usually not equipped to determine where their goods were consumed.
Maybe you need to do some research yourself.
For goods, they use final delivery location. For services, they use location. If you fly from Lagos airport, your VAT goes to Lagos. etc.
PoliticsRe: Low VAT Doesn’t Mean Low Economic Contribution: The South East Nigeria Case by timbabng(m): 9:00pm On Jan 31
lawani:
VAT is paid by companies. So how do the companies determine location of consumption?
VAT is a consumption tax, so the final consumer bears the cost. Companies act as VAT agents for FIRS.

When a company sells goods or services, charges 7.5% VAT on its invoice, Customer pays price + VAT, Company remits the VAT to FIRS.

The location of the consumer is where the VAT is recorded for.

The company pays their own VAT only when they purchase things too.
PoliticsRe: Low VAT Doesn’t Mean Low Economic Contribution: The South East Nigeria Case by timbabng(m): 8:49pm On Jan 31
Tenses:
All the goods being sold in SE pay vat to Lagos state. Even all the banks and multinational companies in SE pay vat to lagos, Abuja or portharcourt where their head office is situated.
Correction. VAT contribution by state is calculated based on place of consumption/economic activity, not origin of production. It is not calculated by where the company’s head office is, but mainly by where the transaction happens.

For example: A bank headquartered in Lagos.
- Customer uses the service in Kano
- VAT is credited to Kano, not Lagos

Your statement on Igbo population in Lagos adding to Lagos VAT is correct, but a huge percentage of the VAT generated goes to the states that did not contribute as much. e.g. South East States and the other regions.

Which means, Igbo people in Lagos are indirectly contributing to their region.

So, it's a win win for everyone. There's no need to be emotional about it.

That's why Nigeria is better together if properly managed.
PoliticsRe: Low VAT Doesn’t Mean Low Economic Contribution: The South East Nigeria Case by timbabng(m): 8:22pm On Jan 31
You can't defend with fake statistics. According to NBS, the south east has the highest unemployment rate in Nigeria, with Abia being the highest at 18.7% in 2023.

What’s wrong with that? Even U.S. aircrafts are routinely serviced in Poland, the UK, Germany, and other European countries.

1. By your definition there, any document that is leaked can also be construed as declassified. So, let's simply stick to the FOIA on this one instead. undecided

2. Well, there is a reason why the word Declassified is not used. That you are not aware of it at this point is no reason why you should assume it is implied. undecided

3. If the officer is charged under the Official Secrets Act then subsection 3 of Section 1 acts in his favor as well. undecided
Well, I specifically mentioned classified documents in my response. It does not matter if "Declassified" was not used, it doesn't change the meaning of the word.

And subsection 3 of Section 1 won't save the officer if charged.

I wish the accused and his lawyers good luck with their case. He's going to need a miracle......or at best he'll become a snitch, and snitch he's way out of prison grin

The charge document does not state any of what you assert. undecided

2. Well, FOIA does not state the document becomes declassified at the point it is distributed rather it states that a document marked as classified is not to be considered precluded from the exchange. Again, let us stay away from interpretations that do not align with what is in fact written. undecided

3. Nothing in the charge letters indicates any of what you claim here. Read through each of the 9 charges to see this for yourself. undecided

4. As for your statement there, that is not according to Section 1 of the Official Secrets action, particularly subsection 3. undecided
https://www.placng.org/lawsofnigeria/view2.php?sn=421
"Declassified" in the context of my response is just the definition in English, which means "no longer a secret".
The FOIA does not need to specifically use the word "Declassified" to describe a Classified (secret) document that has been approved for public consumption. But when a classified document is released, it becomes "Declassified".

Will also go to prison unless : Yes, if the public officer is indicted for releasing a document without authorization, the only exceptions are listed in the FOIA.

PoliticsRe: Investigative Journalist, PIDOM Charged With Promoting #EndBadGovernance Protest by timbabng(m): 4:06am On Sep 03, 2024
Kobojunkieee:
Below is the information I was searching for earlier. That is from the Freedom of Information Act 2011. Merely saying a document is classified does not mean it is precluded. Also, once a person obtains such a classified document, possibly by using the FOIA, there is no restriction on such a person from sharing the same record with the public. undecided
It's still the same thing. FOIA requests for classified documents must be approved by the public institution. In his own case, it was secretly leaked to him.

And you are correct about further distribution of any documents "already approved" and received through a FOIA request. Once it has been approved, it becomes declassified, and can be distributed.

But remember, he got the documents through the backdoor, not through a FOIA request, which makes it illegal.

The public officer that leaked it will also go to prison unless he/she can prove it was done because of impending danger to public health and safety or due to fraud / abuse of authority in the system, as outlined in the act.

Kobojunkieee:
You can't access all information using FOIA, yes, however, in the case that you do gain access to information and then release it as a whistleblower, whistleblowing and stop-gap protection kick in. Both the FOIA and Corrupt Practices Acts of the ICPC provide coverage in those cases. undecided
Again, you must not try to access Classified information, let alone distribute it. It's a criminal offence.

The corrupt practices and other related offences act does not protect criminals, and in this case, the guy was distributing classified information and not whistleblowing any corrupt practices being perpetrated by any agency.
PoliticsRe: Investigative Journalist, PIDOM Charged With Promoting #EndBadGovernance Protest by timbabng(m): 11:35pm On Sep 02, 2024
Kobojunkieee:
That would be part of the whistleblowing aspect of things that are covered under the FOIA and ICPC. Whistleblowers are not criminals in even your Nigeria. undecided
This has nothing to do with that. FOIA is not absolute in any part of the world. You can't access all information, else enemies of the state will have an advantage.

PoliticsRe: Investigative Journalist, PIDOM Charged With Promoting #EndBadGovernance Protest by timbabng(m): 11:26pm On Sep 02, 2024
Kobojunkieee:
That one is not even the most ludicrous of them all. Check out Charge #3 where he is accused under the Official Secrets Act of 1962. It is not inferred that he illegally obtained the information meaning he is covered under FOIA, and FOIA does not bar anyone who receives information on the government from retransmitting the same information to other members of the public. So, why in the world would the government think it would make sense to charge him for doing exactly that? undecided
It clearly states "classified".

Classified documents are not covered by the FOIA, and not only did he obtain classified documents, he reproduced and distributed it.

He's going to jail.

Hi guys , please am in kind need of take on my current situation.

I applied for a canadian work visa through an agent with a down payment of 1miliom after which I did my biometrics capturing at VFS lagos .on

The problem now is that two months is almost gone and no feedback from the embassy and am seriously starting to feel the heat , I don't know if I should get my money back and start up a wine bar or wait for an update from the agent.

Anybody with an experience with situations like this with an agent should pls help me, am begining to lose my mind with my current state of joblessness and doubts of the legitimacy of the agent securing my visa.
Anybody that promises you work visa to Canada is a scammer. The painful part of this experience is not your 1m, it's the fact that there's a high probability of you getting banned for 5 years if they find out that he used a fake employment letter or forged documents for your application. The ban will not only affect your chances of ever entering Canada but will also affect future applications to other countries.

Right now, get him arrested immediately. Retreive your application details from him (I'm 100% sure he didn't give you the login details) and withdraw your visa application, if possible!!

Get your profile details before you get your money, it's more important!

How can you say censoring social media would not prevent the country from burning?

Countries without the problems we face still ensure social media is indeed censored, so what are you scared of?

There is nothing like root cause other than the predilection for illegality and anarchy by a large swathe of the Nigerian populace.

Even the opposition to censorship underlines this.
Nigeria is sitting on a keg of gunpowder (Tribal tensions, Poverty, Unemployment, Terrorism, Banditry), any spark will be a disaster. Censoring social media is like taking away a matchbox, when we have other things like lighters, stoves around us.
They should focus on gradually evacuating the gun powder.

The average igbo man does not trust an Hausa man and vice versa, the Yoruba man does not trust both tribes. But miraculously, our politicians are getting along.

Those countries with extreme social media regulation, like China, North Korea don't have the problems we have.

Nigeria needs to focus on the problems now.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

You are more concerned about the hypothetical case of leaders misusing it than the reality of seeing your immediate community burn.

Many of you would not be finding transportation easy for the next 2 years at the very least.

Many of you would experience a high wave of crime never before witnessed during to the inability of the police to function even at the previous lowly levels due to the vandalism that followed the broadcast of fake news.
Where did I mention the leaders misusing it?

Nobody wants to see Nigeria burn, at least I don't.

What you don't realise is that censoring social media will not prevent the country from burning. The root cause of the problem, which they are failing to address is what's going to burn the country.

"Many of you"...........herein lies the problem of Nigeria.

He is actually making sense, but as expected, our emotional and dumb yooots will curse him
We have to carefully look at things before jumping into conclusions. Nigeria has had it's fair share of riots and protests, but this last one speaks volumes. I saw videos of people removing hand railings from buildings, removing roofing sheets, removing metal rods from windows, stripping car parts and taking them away to sell!
There is only one explanation for their actions; "HUNGER" and "HOPELESSNESS".

The ruling class is more concerned about regulating social media, which translates to taking away freedom of speech because it affects them. But they never ever talk about the root cause of the problem.

Because majority of us are not in the lower class, we think the actions of the looters are crazy, but when a grown man takes his kid to steal used mattress and a pregnant woman is kicking down the door to a food store, then there's more to it.

If things don't change for good soon, the middle and upper class citizens of Nigeria will be at the mercy of the lower class when anarchy starts.

PhonesRe: Nipost Enugu Opened My Parcel And Extorted 7800 From Me by timbabng(m): 8:14pm On Oct 12, 2018
Hello OP, You cannot call it tampering because all parcel/packages can be opened by customs. They have every right to open your package without your permission for several reasons. As long as they don't damage/misplace the contents, then it's within the law.

They can also place a custom duty charge on your package depending on the value. If you imported an iPhone x for example, I'm sure you would have paid higher than N7800. This happens in developed countries too.

They now have offices in the general post offices across the nation. So, before you order something expensive, check the price in the local market first.
