TravelRe: Virgin Nigeria Flight Update by tinard(op): 8:13pm On Jan 24, 2009
I just posted that so you can hear direct from the horses mouth. Their problems are much deeper than they are letting on. I had a pre booked ticket with them and tried to contact them to change the details. Get this, an airline does not have staff to accomodate picking up their phone. Their phone is always busy and to top it up, they are extracting extra quid as the number is an 0844 number. The landline i managed to savage never gets picked up and once it transered me to the finance dept who gave me exactly the same number again. I have to return to work i'll update again later.

TravelVirgin Nigeria Flight Update by tinard(op): 8:09pm On Jan 24, 2009
Virgin Nigeria has announced that effective 27th January 2009; flights to London Gatwick, United Kingdom and Johannesburg, South Africa will be suspended.

The decision to suspend both services is to enable us to review our entire long haul operations including our product offerings on these routes. In the mean time, our focus is on consolidating and continuing to expand our profitable domestic and regional flight operations.

Once the product review has been finalised, we are certain to return to the long haul routes.

Loyal customers on our eagleflier scheme who have acquired miles from our long haul flights are assured of the validity of the miles as the eagleflier scheme remains in place.

We apologise for any inconvenience that the suspension may cause you, our esteemed customer. However plans have been put in place to re-protect affected customers on other carriers at no cost.

We trust you will bear with us as we aim to come back with better and even more competitive product offerings on the long haul routes.

Sincerely,

Conrad Clifford

@ sleekymag

Your words are exactly what the poster is trying to teach people. Quoting a few Bible passages to justify your answer just to meet your gain. If we want to follow the Bible intently, then all gay people would be stoned to death and most women would have been beheaded. To explain the passage you quoted, {i} you do not know what sort of talent was given to the servants. {ii} the same proverb went on to say"if you had put my money in a bank, it would have yielded interest". I really do not have the time to explain to you because you are sort of blinded by faith and will seize to be objective about the topic.

@ sk8erboy

As much as I enjoyed the beginning of the topic as I had the same anger towards most "men of God", I have become reserved as the lesson progresses. I'm willing to wait until the end before I raise any more topic. However, I'm with you on the fact that paulipopo's anger might make this series a bit biased which at the beginning was probably not as clear as daylight{that's not to say daylight is clear in London but you know what I mean}

@ paulipopo

Again I say this, some of us have also studied pastors for ages but what sort of anger prompted you to write what i can only call a book. And as I said earlier which was also confirmed by sk8erboy, you've got a vendetta against a{or some} churches You have some inside knowledge that you want to share and the way the story is going, I'm afraid that by the time you actually share it, the scepticism would have crept in ans the story will become unbelieveable. As in people will question not only your motive but also the truthfulness of your worlds. Also the fact that you decided to make it all free not even as a copyright on a privately owned website fuels my scepticism a lot more

The second part of this module is a little disappointing as they are things I know already. But having reread what the module is all about, I understand why it is needed.

However, I do have a question for you. Is this something you are considering employing yourself or have you recently been fired by your partner in crime that you therefore decided to reveal the secrets of an holy {business}man

Get a life will you. The poster never said anything about them being a fake pastor. They could as well have heard voice of God. But how many people in our world today can truly behave like the people of old{I mean Abraham & Co}. I believe you are a pastor or worker in the Church and are trying to defend your pratice. Read the poster very well and you'll understand it's meaning.

Do not misconstrue the poster's message as ill or anger against GOD or any pastor. He/She is simply trying to point out that whether or not pastors are God's annointed or not, they are in it to win it. It might be a calling but it is also a business and no businessman goes into a business looking to run in a loss. They will therefore use their assets to make this happen. In the case of some, they make up lies about the miracles or perform live acts passed to be passed out as miracles. I cannot in all honesty say I have yet to witness this. Some others however cannot in good conscience do this, so they also use their talent{given to them by GOD} which is preaching. Just like Barack Obama, JFK, Martin Luther King befroe, GOD has granted but a few the gift of words and some develop or learn it and if you pick the right message you can also be a good and successful businessman. The only difference is that this business has to do with the church.

The issue raises by the poster is a little controversial as we as Nigerians have the utmost respect for GOD and can sometimes be blinded by this that we fail to see rulings by pastors that can be wrong. I will not divert everyone else's attention from the message the poster is trying to convey. I will therefore shut my trap and allow the poster to post the next session which I am glued to my seat waiting to read.

Please everyone have an open mind. The poster is not using any trick to brainwash you. Read the message and see what you think. Then go out there and observe and see if the poster is wrong or right.

Also directed at CGKing, Read a book called Abe Aabo OR Purple Hibicus. I haven't read the books in recent times but I remember it had a message about how believeing in a pastor's message can sometimes make you a little bit of an iddiot. I'd like to say more but I will stop. Paulipopo I dig the message and i'm listening

FamilyCan This Suicide Be Regarded As Manslaughter? by tinard(op): 2:06am On Jun 28, 2008
20 years ago, a poor girl was being bullied and beaten mercilessly by this brat son of a rich man. She got so bullied to the extent that this kid was threatened that if she doesn't die, people around her will start dying until she eventually kills herself. Being a school girl, she succumbs and does kill herself. The autopsy report relates that it was suicide but the parents would not have it and therefore get the police to investigate. The police stumbles across the bullying but with the kid being the son of a rich man, some details were ignored and some files hidden and investigation went cold. Now the man has changed his ways having grown to be a star but lavished his money, he became a teacher and a Christian. The sister of the suicide victims falls for him.

One of the men in the police force was retiring and decided to enlighten the family about what had been covered up. Turns out that there was a suicide note written by the victim before taking her life and in there implicating the gentleman on all he had been doing and the latest threats she had receive including notes and pictures of what had been done to her. The family is now trying to pursue a case against the gentleman but have no idea how to go about it as it is been regarded as suicide. My question is surely if someone can be convicted of manslaughter by being present during the act or of being an accomplice during a rapist attack, why can this gentleman also not be convicted of manslaughter? lawyers in the house please fell free to advice using as many legal jargons as possible.

It is just a matter of enforcing it that we'll see about. True it can be enforced to the bus rivers and okadas but what about the bastards with private plate numbers and people who drive "baby boys" and co. Will the same law apply?

Nigeria's electricity facts

1.Currently generates 3500MW
2.Would need 100,000MW to become an industrialised economy, according to the ex-president
3.Six power stations begun under the last administration have not been completed
4.$16bn (£8bn) has so far been spent on the power sector since 1999
PoliticsNigeria Power Shortage To Persist by tinard(op): 10:40am On Jun 03, 2008
Nigeria will not be able to generate enough electricity for its population until at least 2015, President Umaru Yar'Adua has said.

Speaking live on television, the president answered critics who said he had been slow to address the problem.

Nigeria is the eighth largest exporter of oil but cannot generate enough electricity to meet the needs of its 140 million-strong population.

Before his election, President Yar'Adua promised to take swift action on power.

But three finished gas-fuelled power stations are unable to generate electricity because Nigeria has sold all its gas for export, the president said.

These deals with international oil companies would have to be renegotiated over seven years, he added.

"It is only now that the nation realises the critical importance of gas to the national economy," the president said.

'Failed privatisation'

The president said the nation's privatisation of the power industry had failed.

During the televised press conference with a select group of journalists he declared his intention to spend some of Nigeria's savings from oil earnings on repairing the nation's power stations and transmission grid.

Under the previous administration of Olusegun Obasanjo, the government-run power company was split up so parts of it could be sold.

Power stations are rotting away unfinished, and imported generator turbines are still in ports unable to be moved years after they were delivered, a parliamentary investigation found in March.

There was no way investors could be attracted to the industry as it was he said.

"Today, still, most of the companies are still publicly owned," President Yar'Adua said.

"Emergency legislation" will be needed to allow the government to spend some of the billions of dollars in oil revenue it has saved in the central bank on power, he said.

For every barrel of oil sold $59 goes to the national budget.

The rest is held in an account which has now swelled to $12 billion.

By law this has to be shared among the state governments.

Health worries

The president coughed constantly through the press conference.

One of the reasons his critics have said he has been slow to act is his deteriorating health.

Last month he was flown to Germany for emergency medical treatment.

"They prepared the operating theatre, all the surgeons were ready," he said.

"But they ran tests on me and said an operation wasn't necessary."

An allergic reaction to a malaria drug was responsible for his illness, he said.

In 2000 he suffered from an unnamed kidney condition, from which he says he has recovered.

He was also flown to Germany for medical treatment in the middle of his election campaign.

"I am just a human being, I could die tomorrow, but I could also live until 90," he told the conference.

Jokes EtcIf You Sleep With Another Man’s Wife, by tinard(op): 2:20am On May 08, 2008
IT is really amazing how an everyday occurrence suddenly snowballs into a nightmare. A chance meeting with a friend, and Kayode’s world came tumbling down. He’d rushed home in the middle of the day to pick up an important file he’d forgotten to take with him when he left for a work in the morning - and the file was important for a board meeting he had later in the day. As he turned the corner of his house, he ran into Joseph, a friend and neighbour. “Are you and your wife planning a tryst in the middle of the day, he leered as he wound down the window of his car. “I just saw her turn into your house with the driver. Bon appetite, “he joked and drove off. Thinking this was an unusual coincidence, Kayode drove home and, yes, his wife’s car was in the drive. He’d counted on the maid letting him in. It was a stroke of good luck that Laide, his wife, was around too.

“I rang the bell and waited”, recalled Kayode, “nothing happened”. I called out to the maid and got no answer, I then pressed the bell and kept my index finger on it, still no one came to open the door, I became alarmed, you read stories of , prowlers and armed robbers doing dastardly things to their victims and I became jittery. Had they killed my wife and maid? or were they being raped at this moment with the rogues’ hands clamped over their victims’ mouth? “Frantically, I called out to the carpenter two houses away, asking him to come with some men to help break down the door.

Still we heard no whimper from the house. With much trepidation, the men finally hammered the door down and I rushed upstairs only to find my wife in the upstairs sitting room with a total stranger! They were obviously still in shock. They were fully clothed of course, but it was obvious what had either gone on, or was about to go on when I surprised them! “Enraged, I lugged at my wife. The stranger quickly bolted out of the room and dashed out of the gate. I was sure the carpenters would apprehend him, but they did no such thing.

When I challenged them, they looked surprised. They told me they knew the intruder as a family, friend. I was nonplus. What in God’s name was going on? “My wife looked as if she would rather be anywhere but the house when I went back to her. If I had touched her there and then, I would have killed, her. A married woman with kids, bringing a lover to her matrimonial home under public glare; was she insane? Hadn’t she heard of the so-called slaughter house? Didn’t the lover have his own matrimonial home? And what sex would an almost 20-years-married woman be desperate for, that she had to risk her marriage? Didn’t the children and I count for anything?

“ I suppose other husbands caught in a scenario like this would have rehearsed how they would respond. I never imagined that I would surprised my own wife in my own home with her lover! Our first child was in the university for Christ sake! “Confused, I turned on my heels, warning her not to let me find her in the house by the time I came back. Needless to say, I forgot the file I went home to fetch. The meeting was very crucial that I had to confess what happened to my boss. I told him I wouldn’t be much good at the meeting and he postponed it immediately, looking at me with so much sympathy. “Anyway, by the time I got home, the trollop had gone! I felt really sad and defeated. Two of our children still lived at home. Both girls, they had gotten their own dinner and mine was on the table as their mother used to do. They looked embarrassed when they saw me. It was obvious that their mother had told them why she had to leave like a thief in the night!

“I went to the bedroom and flopped on the bed. Thank goodness we had separate bedrooms and I’d always kept mine locked whenever I wasn’t in the house because of vital official documents I always brought home. My mind ran riot as I sat on my bed.

How long had this affair bee going on? How many of our neighbours knew and were laughing at me? I was living a night-mare and wouldn’t relax because of the rage I felt. “Months later, after I’d gone through hell and back, I learnt that the friend who told me my wife had gone home with her driver actually knew she came home with her lover, yet he urged me to go to the house. What type of a man delights in wrecking his friend’s matrimonial home whilst keeping his intact? In the meantime, friends and relatives tried to talk me into taking my wife back.

I couldn’t look after two adolescent girls and though my two sons were away in school, they would need their mother when on vacation. “We were a fairly close family and my wife whenever I saw her (which was rarely) looked as if she had suffered too. She’d lost a lot of weight and her confidence, despite her high-powered job, had taken a dive. The adventurer lover she risked her happiness for had since gone to greener pasture and wasn’t exactly going on his knees to ask for her hand in marriage since he too was married.

Several times, I was tempted to confront this lout in his own home so his wife would know what a cad he was. But I was told I would be wasting my time, that the wife was long-suffering and had resigned herself to her husband’s philandering. “With the children’s pleas and friends and relations urging reconciliation, I finally agreed to a meeting with her. When she arrived for the meeting, my blood boiled with rage. I wanted to seize her and beat the life out of her. As older friends counseled and pleaded for us to give our marriage a second chance. But then I mentally pictured her in this same house, screwing her head off with another man. How much was a husband supposed to take? It was the husband who was supposed to be doing this, not his precious wife, the mother of his children. The resentment I felt was crippling.

“After the peace makers had done their bit and we agreed to give our marriage another chance, my wife went to the kitchen to get some refreshments for everybody. As I watched her, it hit me - she must have used the same kitchen several times to entertain her lover!
To this day, I don’t know how I found myself in the kitchen. All I remember was getting hold of her and beating the frustration and rage I’d felt over the months out of her. In fact I thought I’d killed her as she laid sprawled on the floor, blood oozing from a gash on her forehead. “The visitors were alarmed. Had I gone mad? My two daughters, who were upstairs heard their mother’s screams and came running to the kitchen, when they saw her they turned on me, their young faces contorted with rage.

They told me they’d had enough of my holier-than-thou attitude. They reeled out the names of some lovers I’d had myself, including one of their friend’s mum. If I was having sex with other people’s wives, why shouldn’t someone-else do it to my own wife? They said their mum was the butt of jokes from those who knew about my affairs and that it was my wife people felt sorry for, not me! “I felt as if ice-cold water had been poured all over me. How did the kids know so much about my relationships? And for how long had they known and kept things to themselves? The guests in the living room were no longer looking at me with sympathy, it seemed some of them knew what I’d been up to, and my phoney righteous anger was the last straw. They walked silently out of the house.

“The children quickly called their mum’s driver and they propped my wife up to her car. She was hospitalized for days and absolutely refused to see me. I tried to arrange with the hospital to pay her bills but I was told her office was picking up the tabs from her medical. “I’d really done it this time! As soon as my wife was discharged from the hospital, my daughters went to live with her. My mum, thank goodness I still had one, came to stay with me.

She told me her visit was a short one as she wasn’t prepared to sacrifice her independence and business even for me. What my wife did was wrong, she told me, but it wasn’t as bad as all my carrying-ons. She reminded me that I had a kid I still hadn’t found the nerve to explain to my wife, about whose existence my wife knew of ages ago, but chose to keep it to herself. “I felt really small and sorry for all the things my poor wife had silently gone through without really complaining or shouting the house down.

In her own way, she’d really done a wonderful job as a wife and mother. Mother, bless her, saved the situation. She doggedly went to my wife’s flat until she wore her defences down. It was a happy day the day I walked into my house and found my family complete - the boys had even been brought down from school for the re-union. I won’t pretend that I still don’t feel anger whenever I remember my wife taking her clothes off in front of another man, but like my daughters pointed out to me, hadn’t I delighted in other people’s wives taking their clothes off for me?”

Every one in life is aspiring to be better than his neighbour and this is most common amongst us Africans. However few among us have morals so will endeavour to make it one way or another. That;s why blood money and scams has always been rampant in Africa, It is not as though we are scapegoats. We might not be the author of most scams but we do it the most. It's the same as most things in life either good or bad. We find out about it and we try to adopt it in our life.

RomanceRe: Marriage Is Not What It Should Be by tinard(m): 12:08pm On Apr 08, 2008
One of the problems with the society nowadays is using celebrities as role models when it comes to marriage, relationships and so on. Whatever happened to looking up to our parents or grandparents relationships and learning or taking a point or two from it and adapting it to our lifestyle.

Yes we cannot follow their footsteps completely because some of their ideas are awkward. But the simple things in life such as giving the relationship your all, not thinking i might as well do it well he/she will eventually do it to me, eating meals together, praying together, going places together and i don't mean family get-togethers. Simple things like this goes a long way.

Celebrities are also people and they get things wrong just like we do. The only difference between yourself and them is that they are the focus of the media today. It could be you tomorrow, does that mean you are ready to be a role model?

To the author of the thread, i understand your concern but as i was trying to explain. Him helping out around the house will probably have given the lady a couple of minutes extra to make herself presentable before it's time for bed. She not trying to change him and just accept what she married will probably reduce the fights and increase the love

There is hope for happiness in marriage. It's not easy but it works and you will enjoy the fruits. It's the second best feeling after children as your accomplishments in life

I'm definitely not a saint. I always go to the business thread and found something there. I only posted it there with no conclusion or assumptions. It was up to others to say what they thought of it.

Anyway, why do we all wait even after 8 to 10 years of dating without getting married. It's because it is a big commitment and you don't want to mess it up. I'm sure no one forced you into the marriage in this day especially since you haven't mentioned the involvement of your parents so this means you walked into the marriage with a plan and your head held up high.

Please try and sort things out with him. Maybe you can start working part time or something if that's what's really disturbing you as in you are bored at home. Like the others in the thread, once you start divorcing, you'll always find a reason to do it again and then again until you are 30 year old 5 time divorcee with 3 kids from diff ex- hubbies. Try and work it, if it doesn't work then let him off gently as you don't want to ruin his life and his future. He sounds like a decent guy.

I had no idea that gariumsulphate was a must and i had no cupboard because the carpenter hadn't finished it. I went into the hostel just after the labour finished. I was prolly the smallest kid u'd ever seen. I was walked down from the staff room to blue house because that happened to be the house i wanted to go init was my then favourite colour. The road was long i looked new and i was new. The teacher summoned two guyz to help me carry some of my belongings and on every single one of them was my name printed like neon signs. The neon signal man also happened to have made a mistake so rather that writing LEO, he wrote L.E.O. and then my last name.

Every room we walked into, there will be a loud jeer about me and they were full. I walked into room three hoping there will be a spare bunk coz i was tired and had no idea the reputation the room had brought on itself. The people look just as big as every other person i'd seen previously so i accepted one of the empty bunks. I probably should have been smarter to ask why this one had spare spaces when the others didn't or why we went into room four before room three but no i took the bed. I laid my bed and my net was cast. I laid in the bed for a few minutes just thinking about how massive all these ppl were in comparison with me. i still hadn't talked to anyone all night when these Damola A came by my bedside. He was talking to his mate that was sleeping on the bunk above mine. They kept chatting and suddenly, he put his leg on my bed with my net still down. I kept quiet for a while but you know how stupid these guys were back then he kept on and on and on rubbing his massive leg on my net/bed with his slippers still on.

I summoned up courage. I had a gift from God even though he hadn't made me big then, he gave me something bigger {a big mouth} and this was one of the first moments in life i used it. I touched Damola and told him to step off my bed. His reply was don't you know who you are talking to? I thought to myself i asked you politely with an addition of please, how else was i going to talk? Another in the corner with big lips Sakiru A joined in then Kayode A then Kehinde A then Mayowa then finally a short man devil like myself Ade S. They all ganged up on me tying to push me to a corner and deal with me. But one by one i picked on each and used their deficiency in abusing them and the onces that seemed just about okay since i knew noting else about them i abused about brain deficiency. This hadn't helped my case. But luckily for me, someone liked me up there it was Sunkanmi who told all of them to calm down it was myfirst day. Told them to imagine their first days maybe he meant in prison i have no idea but they left me that night in the end. But Sunkanmi was no angel. He didn't want them getting in trouble over a no brainer on his first night out away from the grandparents who loved him so. I was in the toilet alone the next day.

I'd been in toilets in my life i even shared toilets with craziest of all ppl my brother never flushing the toilet but when i saw a pit latrine with ppl doing shot put with shit and maggots all over the. How did i do it that day i have no idea. But that was just the start of my long 5 years in the college going from one obstacle to another even befriending labush. Oh yeah labush. No how he got his name, he name himself pubic hair. Crazy bastard when they tell stories i listened as i said i was indeed growing up. i'll come back again telling more.
