komekn: Please pay attention to detail.
Having immediate access to NVG when and if required is different from NVG being standard issue for all combatants.
What I did say " don't misquote " is that for most modern armies optic sights is standard for most assault rifles. do you know not all US soldiers rifle has optics |

komekn: Expensive is relative.
In this regard they are not expensive.
What may be expensive to Nigeria will not be expensive to USA, NATO, Russia, etc
All modern armies will have optic sights as standard for nearly all of thier combatants as well as body armour. Access to NVG is available to all combatants if required.
I have watched a few videos of NA in a fire fight situation and l noticed not all of them had basic body armour. all troops has body they don't just want to wear it... If it's worn they're replaced troops recently were given new ballistic vest from DICON |

Please I have a question
There were allegations in the past that Nigerian troops were not provided with Night vision glasses for Night operations. And this was a huge disadvantage in night-time gunfights.
Has this issue been trctified? While it is good to buy tanks and other heavy arms and artillery, little equipments like Night vision goggles are equally very important Sir
What are you takes on this? I'm sure but I don't think "All soldiers " has NVG only a few and members of the Nigerian army Special forces has their Rifles fitted with Thermal scopes.. |

Mr toju that knows the type of training that is been given to soldiers of the army. Well done sir. Do u even know intimidation is part of the army way of life. There is even a course given to cadet in the DNA. Where they re taught to intimidate. I have 4gotten the name of the course. After completing it, they will be sent to intimidate civilian and record it to show it to their superior as evidence. Failing to do it, they will be punished. I was told this by a soldier friend. I'm just hearing this for the first time... I asked my friend who's a soldier he said I hasn't heard of anything like that... |

komekn: It really depends on what you understand by professionalism. But I picked up this definition online to give us some context.
Commitment and confidence, responsibility and dependability, honesty and ethics, and appearance and professional presence are central professional characteristics.
"The key to quality and efficiency is professionalism"
Let me explain further, your own personal experiences, understanding and knowledge will shape your expectations.
In this regard I do not expect to see trained combatants, abandoning a Vickers MBT in the face of a hostile engagement few rag tag gun trucks from Boko.
The incidents of dereliction of duty and outright cowardice over the years in the NE are too numerous to count.
I dont expect to see professional soldiers stripping women naked because they take exception to thier choice of attire.
Or decide to shave off the hair amidst horse whipping young men because they choose to have their hair in dread locks.
Or decide to drive against the flow of traffic because the military is exempt from traffic laws and run off anybody in their way.
Or decide as a means of entertainment to beat up people because they are army officer cadets in training and block the main road.
Burning down whole villages because a few militants are alleged or indeed come from that village in the Nigerian Delta.
Numerous incidents of the NA visiting murderous mayhem on other security department like the police when in dispute. That's not a professional approach.
I will not go into the corruption of the senior brass of the NA over many decades. Or in particular Burutai and his many million $ assets acquired as a public servant.
Finally, we saw the professional approach of the NA in shooting at defenceless citizens at Lekki tollgate.
The list is literally ENDLESS of deranged murderous violent behaviour and total lack of accountability by the NA.
That's not my PERSONAL experience of PROFESSIONALISM. We have very different EXPECTATIONS.
Nonetheless, l commend you for your optimism and hero worshiping of the NA, it's really. Misguided patriotism.
If you don't address the problem it continues, without admitting our FAILURES we cannot proceed to SUCCESS and VICTORY by wishful thinking. First of All... You can't use one or two or three soilders to classify an Army of Tens of Thousands though they are to represent but they entered with the mindset of oppression it's their problem.that was not taught during training I mainly focus on those who actually fight with Zeal with The mindset of defending this Country and Thank God I've actually met soilders like that.they are friendly. One even allowed me walk two of his Military working dogs (GSD) I bought milk for them and he appreciated. If you had this kind of experience with a soilder how would you classify the NA. Well it's not actually your fault there are numerous cases of Oppression by soilders but Good deeds never make it to the media.just like when Our soilder friend here striker Arab saved a woman who was almost raped by 7 men. On the Case of soilders running away from BHT when you have a vickers,You gonna have to look at the situation before Coming to conclusions. I don't worship the military I appreciate their efforts the bad ones can't spoil the good ones for me.anytime I watch some videos of our men in combat I wonder what comes in their mind.these are men with family who the could be flexing with at that time but it's quite the opposite and the people they are defending aren't showing appreciation maybe they should allow terrorists overun the country like they did in syria and iraq .. |

komekn: If l was to describe the Nigerian military some od the words I would not use are ; Highly professional, highly disciplined, modern and technologically superior, very effective, infrastructurally competent with the best up to date fit for purpose modern cutting edge equipment in Africa.
I would also not say they are tactically astute with superior battlefield field management and strategy.
I am making comparison with African nations by GDP.
Do you know why the Isreali Army is feared by all the Arab nations. Because they don't make noise with rhetoric, they take an eye for a tooth.
Actions speak louder than word's. Highly professional yes Modern Equipment Fair Discipline No You want to see action Op TURA TAKAIBANGO is ur ticket that's if you've been following from day one |

komekn: Imagine a rag tag bunch of illiterate rudimentary drug addicted fanatics armed with improvised weaponry holding the whole of a nation to ransome. With its HARDENED SOLDIERS.
A situation where the Governor and elected representatives for years do not have full access to the state and all spatial infrastructure of government.
Keyboard warriors who are educated knowledgeable, innovative and informed have a lot more to offer than you may imagine or cannot imagine.
In modern warfare it is not brawn over brains. But Intelligence and Innovation. seems you don't know how This insurgency War works well I believe you do... So I don't see why you'll just come to the conclusion that those infidels are Holding Nigeria ransom With it's HARDENED soilders,I don't know but are you trying to say Or military is weak? Insurgency war It's not all about weapons but High moral,Good tactics. I've said it before. Some people here claimed to win this war we'll need like 100s of AFV,50 Wingloong Well Since January 3 with only Guntrucks, and MRAPs we've F**ked ISWAP badly and the battle is still on ISWAP is on the run. According to you what Nigeria soilders hasn't done in years Chadians did it in days. We'll now say what chadians did in Days Nigeria military did twice in 10 days. W |

I'm sure Op TURA TAKAIBANGO has a safe zone or no civilian zone...So any vehicle likely moving around enemy territory is considered an enemy. If the vehicle is told to halt and it doesn't or from a distance it's driving high speed towards troops it's considered a VBIED so we let loose AA rounds.. |

komekn: First of all the structural integrity of the vehicle remain and what we have is limited blast and fire damage.
I would expect combatants to come out with just superficial burns and light injuries. Particularly if they were properly attired.
Nonetheless, for this vehicle which seems to be the STREIT Spartan APC, this is a light armoured vehicle. It has limited protection and it's mine protection inadequate simply not fit for purpose. It is not a MRAP, IFV, and the term APC in its description open to debate.
My assumptive deductions are also that it is over priced, probably cost more than $ 350k per unit, does anybody know❓ Look at marketing strategy of STREIT and the are very open to sharp practises. My analyst where have thou been
It's not BEST VALUE and the best use of very scarce resources.
My criticism is based on better and far more cost effective alternatives as well as fit for purpose armoured vehicles. Our procurement lacks innovation and ingenuity.
Including our own locally sourced and manufactured MRAP's |

Xbee007: If you read the original post released by DHQ, you will realise the army did suffer casualties in the initial ambush. "...and later reinforced by troops from 27 TF Bde Buni Gari and Special Forces Training School Buni Yadi..."
Now, I reckon you'd need more than one casualty to request for reinforcement. It was the reinforcement that dealt the heavy blow to ISWAP, probably because they weren't expecting it.
Anytime, I read of reinforcement in Nigerian Army post, I know something terrible must have happened. So the Vanguard report that quoted AFP is highly likely correct since AFP actually relied on the account of two Nigerian Military officers that claimed 13 lives were lost. you're perhaps right... |
