Andre Uweh: What an idiotic question you are asking here. That an elder published his memoirs of a war he witnessed is now a crime. What Prof Achebe recently published was his own reflective account of what he saw during the war. Pick up your pen and write your own memoirs, or are you too lazy to write?.common boy! That everything he saw, witnessed and wrote about being the truth doesn't mean it is the Fact. History is all about fact and evidence. |

ngozievergreen: i shd mention eastern writers? Where did u school? Anyway, education is progressive. The classic novels of naija note d word,'classic' are frm Chinua Achebe,Elechi Amadi, Cyprian Ekwensi, Flora Nwapa, Buchi Emecheta( best female novelist), Ike Chukwuemeka and d reigning icon, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Dier novels have all entered waec syllabus @least. Wole is a good playwright and poet. I wont forget anoda yoruba playwright, Ola Rotimi. But dear, d classic works are eastern. Am nt being arrogant, am educating u.eediot! Chinua achebe won more awards than Wole Soyinka but couldn't win the nobel prize which is the highest? Let me Liberate u from ur ignorance using an olympic standard. If a country won 1gold medal and another country won 1million silver medals, the country with just 1 gold medal would be ranked higher than the country with 1million silver medals . Thank me for that! |

Former Governor of Kogi State Abubakar Audu has been declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in connection with alleged misappropriation of the sum of N4 billion public funds. In a statement signed by Wilson Uwajuren, EFCC Acting Head of Media and Publicity yesterday, the action was as a result of the inability of the embattled ex- governor to respond to invitations sent to him. The statement further explains that previous attempts to arrest Audu at his 32 Sulaiman Barau Street residence in the highbrow Asokoro District of Abuja failed as “he allegedly evaded arrest”. The EFCC had further implored anybody “having useful information about the whereabouts of the suspect to notify its offices in Abuja, Port Harcourt, Lagos, Kano and Enugu or report at the nearest police station”. The EFCC had alleged that Audu mismanaged the funds during his tenure as governor between 1999 and 2003. But the ex governor, who was to be charged with conspiracy, stealing and misappropriation of public funds, appealed the allegations. The Supreme Court in November dismissed the appeal paving way for the commencement of trial. Audu had earlier denied evading arrest, saying he had been abroad receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment. His lawyer Mike Ozhekome (SAN) was reported to have indicated the readiness of his client to face trial. http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/index.php/news/183954-alleged-n4bn-fraud-efcc-declares-ex-gov-audu-wanted |

Ayamasaowei of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Augustine CC Agundu of Army Headquarters Garrison and Okwudili F. Azinta of the Joint Task Force Headquarters (Operation Pulo Shield). And in New York, a gathering of the Nigerian diplomatic and military intelligence machinery in the United States, for the decoration-of-rank ceremony of Commander Saburi Abayomi Lawal promoted Navy Captain was occasion for sober reflection on the state of the nation’s defense personnel. Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), Professor Joy Ogwu said the Nigerian military needs reinvention as well as a sustenance of its ideology and doctrine which enabled the nation to pursue it’s decolonization and Afro-centric diplomacy successfully in the years gone by. Ogwu, herself a soldier’s daughter and former teacher at Nigeria’s military institutions maintained that Nigerian younger officers must navigate through the waters of order and rank to speak truth to power in determining the direction of the country’s military and it’s ability to protect the nation’s territorial integrity including other more specific operations for which it was set up. She said: “NNS Aradu was launched in 1982. It was a geo- territorial flagship of our navy. What is the state of our capability today? Many have spoken of deterioration of facilities. How did it happen that South Africa could put a military boat near our shores over Cote d’Ivoire and we had no response. The concept of order should not deter you from speaking truth to power. What are you going to hand over to the younger generation? Dead operational vessels? The navy is the guardian of our domestic economy. What happened to the concept of the coastal guard? You cannot build on a vacuum. “Our naval motto: ‘Onward Together’, epitomizes today’s ceremony. I learnt many things from the military. The working method, discipline working order and commitment. Today, the Nigerian military is perhaps the last bastion of discipline in Nigeria. That is why I have consistently advocated that our officers be made ambassadors. The nation gains from that. It is important for us to emulate the best practices in our system.” Also at the event were Nigeria’s Defense Adviser to the US , Brig-, Lt Colonel Julius Osifo, the Consul- General of the Nigerian Mission in New York, Habib Habu as well as the deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Usman Saki as well as officers at the Mission. Ogunewe stressed that strict professionalism and unwavering focus as a policy is being implemented in such a way as the enhance the capability of the Charging Navy Captain Saburi Abayomi Lawal, on the defense of Nigeria’s interests abroad, Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Usman Sarki, said the officer, who is an economist by training, was being elevated at the time Nigeria needs to make progress. “The red tab that you wear on your shoulders carries weight. You are representing a great country. You have to see yourself first as a Nigerian. Now, the economics of all our procurements will have to be in place. Your knowledge will be needed badly as we strive for best practices in our engagement with states as well as in the multilateral sector such as the UN,” he added. The recipient promised to meet the expectations of the nation and the demands of future challenges. http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=108213:army-promotes-22-brigs-gen-others&catid=1:national&Itemid=559 |

Winning a nobel prize or such tnz have 'political undertone'.anybody can term anywriter of ones choice the greatest. But it is more honourable to be given an award by the committe of professioners in the field like a nobel. Mention other eastern writers? |

Ministers who did not wear the emblem of the 2013 Armed Forces Remembrance Day were on Wednesday denied entry into the venue for the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja by security officials. The affected ministers were told that the directive came from President Goodluck Jonathan. Jonathan on Thursday inaugurated the emblem at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, calling on Nigerians to proudly wear it. According to him, wearing the emblem is a good way to appreciate the sacrifice the fallen and living heroes had made towards national development. All ministers on the occasion were decorated with the emblem. When those who were not wearing theirs were stopped from entering the venue, others made frantic efforts to get them from workers in the Villa who had theirs on so that they could attend the meeting. However, the Minister of State, Defence, Olusola Obada, saved the situation when she arrived with more emblems for the ministers. Some of them who managed to enter the venue without emblems were seen quickly fixing the ones provided by Obada to their dresses before the President entered the hall. At last, all ministers who came for the meeting were allowed to attend. However, the meeting was dedicated to the victims of the Saturday’s helicopter crash in Bayelsa State. Jonathan ordered that ministers must wear their emblems for one month. The President said, “Ministers are hereby directed to wear the Armed Forces Remembrance emblem for one month. We shall wear it up until January 15, 2013 when activities for the remembrance would have been concluded.” “If you do not wear it to your offices, just make sure you keep money inside your bag to buy another one.” http://www.punchng.com/news/jonathan-bars-ministers-without-remembrance-emblem-from-fec/ |
