kulyie: Beautiful development.at least there would be more refined and civil people in the nigerian police force instead of those animalsthe problem with nigerian police force is not based only on the the certificates they are holding but the corrupt mentality that has beclouded every one of them in the force including the educated ones. The bribe, money collected from bail which is meant to be free are shared by both the high certificate and lower certificate holders. Moreover, when the 'wetin u carry' guys go on road block, they always have the share they give to their 'oga' cos it is by their consent. Tafa balogun is an alumni of unilag http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mustafa_Adebayo_Balogun, likewise many other high ranked officers and what is the difference? All having skeleton in their cupboards. So the problem is not base on the certificate but a reformation that will change the corrupt mentality of the NPF |
Police Service Commission says holders of Secondary School Certificate would no longer be accepted into the Nigeria Police Force as constables. It said the minimum entry requirement now was Ordinary National Diploma. The commission also stated that Third Class degree holders were no longer accepted as Cadet Inspectors, in line with the reform in the force. PSC Commissioner and Chairman, Public Affairs Committee of the commission, Ms. Comfort Obi, who stated this at a news conference in Abuja on Monday, explained that the commission had reviewed the recruitment process into the police. According to her, the PSC has over the years formulated policies aimed at the efficiency and discipline of the police force, adding that background checks are now carried out on applicants to separate bad eggs and discourage people of shady characters from joining the police. Obi stated that polygraph tests were also carried out on applicants to determine drug users, alcoholics and liars that could tarnish the image of the force. She said, “The mechanism put in place by the commission is in line with police regulations to ensure that bad eggs don’t find their way into the force. We are focusing on the recruitment process and have raised the minimum entry requirements. “SSCE holders can no longer join the police as constables; even a third class degree holder cannot join the Cadet Inspector cadre. The minimum qualification for a constable is OND and it must include six credit passes in SSCE including Credit pass in English and Mathematics.” The PSC Commissioner in charge of Strategy, Dr. Otive Igbuzor, explained that written examinations had been introduced for applicants, adding that promotions in the force were based on merit. He explained that 599 cases of indiscipline were treated between 2008 and 2011. He said 94 officers were compulsorily retired, and a number of others were sanctioned for various offences. http://www.punchng.com/news/police-disqualify-ssce-third-class-holders-from-recruitment/ |

chiover: Na only d day I go rule nija dis bad tins go end. Roques want more cash to loothexactly what abacha said immediately after the coup and what GEJ said during the manifestoes. But these toll gates were demolished during obasanjos tenure placing #1 on each liter of petrol bought. Why then do they think of restoring the toll gate without the removal of the #1 on each liter of petrol? Looking for another source to rob the masses i guess! |
Callotti: Am I supposed to be impressed by this piece?no! BLACK MAN IS SWEARED FOR. U CURSED. The Federal Government has so far released N3.5 billion for the take off of the Federal University, Lokoja, the Minister of Education, Prof. Rukayyatu Rufa’i, said on Monday in Lokoja. Speaking at the first matriculation ceremony of the university, Rufai explained that N1.5 billion was the provision of facilities at the temporary campus, while N2 billion would go to the development of the permanent site. She said the bill legalising the nine recently established federal universities would soon be signed into law by the president. They are Federal University, Dutse; Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, Katsina Stat; Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State; Federal University, Lafia; Federal University, Lokoj;, Federal University, Ndufu- Alike-Ikwo, Ebonyi State; Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State; Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State; and Federal University, Wukari, Taraba State. The minister said pproval had also been given for the physical master plan of the university, adding that “no meaningful development can be achieved without education.” She disclosed that 2,391 students had been matriculated by eight of the new universities, the News Agency of Nigeria reports. Earlier, Kogi Deputy Governor Yomi Awoniyi said that the state was ready to take its rightful place in education with the ongoing restructuring in the sector. He said that the restructuring programme was occasioned by years of neglect of the sector which had led to the screening and discovery of ghost teachers and schools. Awoniyi urged the new university to complement the state, saying that government intended to use the new institution as a research centre for the transformation and development of the state. In an address of welcome, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdulmumuni Rafindadi, said the institution had zero tolerance for examination malpractice, cultism and other social vices In a matriculation lecture entitled, “State of the Education in Nigeria Today,” Dr. George Kwanashi noted the flaws in the nation’s educational system and called for a change. He called for policy consistency and improved facilities, improved teaching and learning materials and professionalism as solutions to the problems. A total of 443 students in three faculties were matriculated at the ceremony. http://www.punchng.com/business/fg-releases-n3-5bn-for-take-off-of-lokoja-varsity/ |
Nigeria's Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala says her mother's kidnappers demanded her resignation. In her first public comments since her 82-year-old mother's release, Mrs Okonjo-Iweala said the kidnappers mentioned her battle against a multi-billion dollar fuel scam. Kamene Okonjo was freed on Friday after gunmen held her for five days. Mrs Okonjo-Iweala pushed a government policy to end fuel subsidies in January, sparking a nationwide strike. The government then agreed to partially restore the subsidy. Kidnapping is common in southern Nigeria, where it is a lucrative criminal enterprise. 'No backing down' She said her mother, a retired professor, was held without food or water. "The kidnappers spent much of the time harassing her. They told her that I must get on the radio and television and announce my resignation," Mrs Okonjo-Iweala said in a statement. "When she asked why, they told her it was because I did not pay oil subsidy money." Earlier this year, a parliamentary investigation found that a scam linked to the subsidy cost the country $6.8bn (£4bn). Kamene Okonjo was kidnapped from her home in southern Nigeria's Delta state on 9 December. On Friday, officials said she had been released and that her abductors had dropped her off near her home. It is not clear whether a ransom was paid to secure her release. Mrs Okonjo-Iweala, 58, did not answer any questions after making her statement. She is an internationally respected economist who has led a high-profile campaign to clean up corruption in Nigeria. The finance minister said the kidnapping would not change the policy of President Goodluck Jonathan's government. "For marketers whose transactions are proven to be fraudulent, the position of the Jonathan government is also clear: We cannot and we will not pay," she said. "We will not back down on this. We will continue to stand firm." Last week, finance ministry spokesman Paul Nwabuikwu said that Mrs Okonjo-Iweala had been threatened recently. Officials said Kamene Okonjo had probably been released because her abductors were under pressure, following a series of raids by Nigeria's security forces to hunt them down. http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-20762630 |

THE Leader of the Northern Civil Society Coalition, Mallam Shehu Sani has said that the north can only produce a president for the country if they are united and if they jettison the old order of rallying round Arewa leaders who cannot move the nation forward. Sani particularly opposed the ticket of former Military Heads of State like retired Generals Ibrahim Babangida, Muhammadu Buhari; erstwhile Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the current Vice President, Alhaji Namadi Sambo, whom he said may not be sellable candidates from the north for the 2015 presidential election. The civil rights activist, who spoke in Kaduna Friday in reaction to plans by the northern elders to shop for presidential materials explained that “for the north to achieve the aspiration of producing a president for Nigeria in 2015, it has to put its house in order.” He added: “The zonal formula of the PDP which was violated by the emergence of President Goodluck Jonathan would make it impossible for the other sections of the country to concede the presidency to the northern part of Nigeria. But the emergence of Jonathan will set a serious precedence in the sense that once power is within a certain geo-political zone, they may use the principle of democratic numbers to continue to dominate without looking back at the fact that rotation should be respected. So, the aspiration of northern political elite is genuine, but they need to do a lot of work.” According to Sani, the workshops and seminars being organised by northern elders towards the project have been taking place in Arewa House, “but what has made it very much impossible is the ego and the personal ambition of some persons in the north who are not prepared to sacrifice their own personal ego and ambition.” “Now, you have many people in the north that were interested in the presidency in the past and that had made it impossible for one person to get the overall support of all the people in the north. In the last dispensation, we saw the emergence of people like Babangida, Atiku, Buhari and we have seen how others like former state governors also showed interest in the leadership of the country. I do not think that if the north fails to put their house in order, they would be able to make any difference in 2015. The north has the numerical strength, the land mass and the capacity to produce the president in 2015, all that they need is unity,” he stressed. http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=107743:-sani-lists-obstacles-to-arewa-presidency-in-2015&catid=1:national&Itemid=559 |

saxywale: I don't really understand what you mean but traditional, Ooni still supersedes Alaafin. Negro has answered the question and Kats has flogged the issue several times on this forum. Even the 1st Alaafin became the 4th Ooni of Ife. Let's not derail the thread.FYI, am not derailing the thread! Odudua gave birth to okanbi, okanbi gave birth to 7 children. When all the 7 children went away, who ruled ife? |
saxywale: This has been argued several times. It's funny how people like you try to distort history.that is traditionally. But politically, Ooni supercedes alaafin. We are naw in the world of politics where tradition has been jetisoned |

ojukwu of biafraland. In nigeria as a whole in this post colonial era, i believe it is the Sultan of Sokoto. Because he rules over his domain and he is given reference by the muslims in the country unlike other monarchs that rule their domain only |
Gbawe: Absolutely correct. Corruption exist in every facet of Nigerian life. Who will not pay a bribe here if it gets things moving for them? When we do that we are showing acceptance of how things work in Nigeria. It should be the same with politics. We should accept corruption is endemic in our politics. If politically sophisticated and pragmatic, we will realise the obvious. For now, we must look for those still delivering and improving on what they met on ground amidst the corruption. In this respect, the ACN is far better than the PDP.Epistle of Gbawe to Faraday777 |
2010! GEJ went to the redemption camp cos he wanted to contest and win the 2011 election. 2012! GEJ is in the redemption camp again. Eureka! GEJ is contesting the 2015 election.
