RomanceRe: What Is Wrong With Getting Married To A Nurse? by toluene12: 10:44pm On Apr 07, 2013
Localamos: This thread is for idle dicussions. You can't tell me you have someone you want to get serious with and you are posting it for people to advise you.

For the novelty of it, nursing profession is a hghly respected one in nigeria and very broad at that. You would see nurses who are passionate about their job, and you would also see those who are very quarellsome and non challant about their jobs. You would see those that are chaste and those that are promiscous.

The few I know personally are respectable and responsible.

FamilyRe: Which Kids Are Naughtier? Naija Kids Or Kids Living Abroad. by toluene12: 9:38am On Apr 06, 2013
The issue is despite our high moral upbringing in nigeria, why do we have one of the most morally corrupt society in the world?
If our kids are well brought as we claim, why do they leave home to join cultism or become aristos
If they are thoroughly disciplined and chastised, why do they grow up to become armed robbers, kidnappers, fraudsters, embezzlers and prostitutes?
We insist on spare the rod and spoil the child, yet nigeria has a very high percentage of spoilt and uncaring adults.
So then, what really is the essence of our discipline at home? So the child do not talk back at you and is forced to do domestic chores. This is good but discipline goes beyond that, it should last a lifetime.
New generation parents needs to review their disciplinary approach, our new motto should be 'teach a child the right way he should grow, and when he becomes an adult he wont depart from it'.
We need to start raising kids that will be better adults, this is what our society needs, and the lack of it is our bane as a nation.
Instill into the mind of a kid qualities such as integrity, honesty, truthfulness, sincerity, selflessness, contentment, responsibility, fairness, benevolence and other good characters along with respect to elders and suchs.
Lets stop lying to our kids. Stop exhibiting aggression, violence, deception, selfishness, intolerance and other vices in their presence.
Do not use foul languages around them and stop cursing them
Parents should raise their kids for the common good of the society. I know parents that buy waec and ume question papers for their kids, they organize special centres for their kids' waec exam. What exactly are they teaching this teenagers? CORRUPTION and LAZINESS.
kids learn faster with action than words and those things they see sticks more, and helps shape their personality.
Lets focus more on a kid's personality and less on the rod. His personality determines his contibution to the society.
The rod has been shown to be useless, if anything it inhibits a child's ability to fulfil his potential.
I was happy when I heard fashola has outlawed whipping in Lagos' public schools. Whippng had never worked, and will never work, it only breeds heart-hardened students, fearsome and unapproachable teachers. This atmosphere isn't conducive for learning.
Other forms of punishments can be introduced into our schools as a measure of discipline.
The most thrashed students in my class then are now the outcasts of the society, still grasping with their lifes 13 yrs after.

Every terrorist believes that his cause is just and everybody affected by terrorism believes otherwise.
afghan is a nation at war, Nigeria is not at war.
I told u compare like with like.
has pakistan(a semi failed state like nigeria) granted amnesty to those terrorist group residing at its mountainous regions?
has Assad considered amnesty for the syrian liberation army?
besides, afghan and allied troops fought the talibans for 13 years before considering amnesty.
Yet, the talibans have scorned all forms of amnesty extended to them and have continued bombing anything that walks.

Besides, there are Boko Haram militants who are also in jail and who may be eligible for amnesty.
use like to compare like. IRA fought a genuine cause- an end to british rule in northern ireland , unlike boko haram- nobody knows what they even want.
IRA can be likened to niger delta, while boko haram should be likened to al queda. Has any country extended amnesty to the latter?
PoliticsRe: Military Chiefs Angry With Boko-Haram Amnesty by toluene12: 5:51pm On Apr 05, 2013
naptu2: Example.

Martina Anderson was a member of the IRA. When she was 18 she was arrested as she left a furniture store and charged with possession of a firearm and causing an explosion. She was released on bail after spending two months in prison. She escaped across the border to the Republic of Ireland.

Years later she was arrested again, after she was found with 4 notorious IRA militants in a flat in Scotland. They were charged with conspiring to cause (another) explosion. She was sentenced to life imprisonment.

She was released in 1998, under the terms of the Good Friday agreement that brought peace to Northern Ireland (part of the conditions of her amnesty was that she had to renounce violence).
She is now a member of the European Parliament.
She served jail time for crimes committed, besides she wasn't given public funds in the name of any amnesty.

so, when is assad going to offer amnesty to the syrian liberation army? or is syrian case different.
algeria crushed her terrorists
mali crushed her terrorists
when mubarak held sway in egypt, he had ZERO tolerance for the muslim brotherhood
indonesia and malaysia have no patience for cross border terrorists, any act of terror is met with brutal force
somalians are seeking external help to rid the country of terrorists
Assad has vowed to kill all terrorists in his country.
here in Nigeria, our government wants to give more money to terrorists.
Give them money to do what? purchase better weaponry and explosives to reinforce their armoury.
what about compensation to the families of thousands of victims killed by boko haram, nobody has said anything about that.

Billyonaire: GEJ is mandated to grant State Pardon, if he chose Alam as the benefactor then it is not questionable by anyone, he is the President, and our rants cant change anything cos he is within his constitutional mandate. He is the President not me, not you, If I am there, I will Pardon my friends no matter their crime. Its that simple.
Even in matter of state pardon, there are checks and balances, unfortunately in Nigeria we have none and the likes of Alams will go ahead and win senatorial electoral seat in the near future or occupy public offices that entails him handling volumes of financial transaction- a man convicted of stealing public funds.
In 2001 fmr president Bill Clinton granted Marc Rich state pardon. Billionaire Marc Rich was accused by federal prosecutors of tax evasion worth $48 million dollars and illegal trading with iran. Rather than stand trial, Rich fled to switzerland and refused to come back home since 1983. He was tried and convicted in absentia.
Clinton's pardon to Rich generated a national uproar. Fmr president Carter called it disgraceful. Federal prosecutors insisted they will go ahead with the civil suits against Marc Rich if he ever return and was still expected to pay 100 million dollars fine. Marc rich is yet to return to the U.S as rumours abound he may be arrested for other unrelated criminal charges.
Now, I stated the above to show how things work in sane climates and to inform people who have been shouting that U.S presidents also gives controversial pardons that pardon itself has its limits.
That limit do not exist in Nigeria and that's why we are worried.

Rossikk: India has not ''caught up with the west'' in any way, shape or form. In fact a recent study showed that India is ''far poorer than Africa''.

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/world/india-far-poorer-than-africa-new-measure-shows/story-e6frg6so-1225891801078

As for Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, the major reason they became tiger economies between 1950 and 1990 was massive foreign investment in their economies by western nations led by the US, Western Europe and Japan in the 1950s. The victorious allies were desperate to create capitalist bulwarks against rampaging communism, so they opened their markets to finished goods from Asia, and offered massive incentives to their companies willing to invest in Asia. The rest is history. See, this is why you people need to READ and STUDY, otherwise you will never understand what's going on on this earth. A full grown man like you SHOULD KNOW the reason behind the rise of the Asian tigers. Instead you have in your head the simplistic and ignorant notion that they are somehow superior beings who developed rapidly merely because they ''put their house in order'' when in fact the reasons are a lot more complex.
hmmm, rossiki and his unending conspiracy theories.
o.k can you then explain to us how communist china became an economic superpower without investment from the west or FDI.
about india you are very wrong. there's a big difference btw GDP and per capital income. china has 468 million poor people living on less than $2 per day(36% of the population), yet they have the second biggest economy.

every country does the same. there's no free meal anywhere, not even in freetown. when the chinese gives you money to construct a railroad, they insist their company construct it and you purchase all the equipments from their companies. And if its a loan, u must pay back.

In 2011, the US Agency for International Development spent some $230 million on aid programs in Nigeria, the bulk of which went towards supporting health programs and in particular preventing and treating HIV/AIDS.

Where was America at 50 years? Flogging, torturing, lynching, ra.ping, enslaving, and denying education to everyone who looked like you as a matter of state policy.

So count your blessings you are in Nigeria at 50 as opposed to America at 50, you worthless, ill-bred, ungrateful, stup.id mor.on and professional white asss licker.
So, we should wait 350 years before we develop? this man u are something else. what about singapore, indonesia, malaysia, india, turkey, even india. these contries gained independence around the same time as nigeria, but they weren't stupid to wait for 350 years b4 catching up with the west as u're advising nigeria to do.
PoliticsRe: US May Cut Aid For Alamieyeseigha's Pardon by toluene12: 8:19pm On Mar 17, 2013
Rossikk: US ''aid'' to Nigeria is limited to 'HIV treatment', which is where the bulk of the 300 million dollars goes. Part of the conditions of the 'aid' is that the 'HIV drugs' (Goodness knows what's contained in them) are purchased from (you guessed it) US pharmaceutical companies.

Nigeria is a nation with an annual GDP of $400 billion and so will not miss any ''aid'' by the USA which itself could not send any ''aid'' to anyone if China stopped lending money to her. The US of course is bankrupt, rap.ed by a corrupt system that LEGALLY deprives its people of TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS which it hands to a small group of bankers and their political associates, leaving hundreds of millions in debt, homeless, destitute, and locked in crime-ridden ghettoes.

A nation essentially living on credit and borrowed time.

How long before the loud implosion?
stop lying, anti retroviral drugs are free, neither the nigerian govt nor its citizens buys those drugs. visit a VCCT centre and be informed

I agree nigerians wont miss those aids if we have a govt that truly cares. Lets start with free antenatal care, free emergency healthcare and free ant malaria drugs

Dont worry about the USA, this wont be the first time they will be in recession, rather worry about nigeria that has refused to come out of a 28 year old recession. Instead the govt keeps parading 'paper report' confusing themselves about the state of the economy.
1st of all check d meanin of infamous in ur dictionary cos u obviously dnt no d minin den 2ndly check d reason y d interview was taggd "infamous"
About JEREMY PAXMAN
Jeremy Dickson Paxman(the interviewer) is an English journalist, author and broadcaster. He has worked for the BBC since 1977, and is known for his forthright and abrasive interviewing style, particularly when interrogating political office holders. His regular appearances on the BBC2's Newsnight programme have been criticised as aggressive, intimidating and condescending, and also applauded as tough and incisive.

One of paxman's greatest clip was his interview with chloe smith, a junior minister in the treasury department. Jeremy Paxman likes nothing more than the opportunity to grill a poorly briefed junior minister who has been dumped in it by her boss.
She was put up by the Treasury to explain why the government had been so implacably opposed to delaying the fuel duty rise on Monday but had reversed gear so rapidly on Tuesday. chloe was seriously ridiculed by paxman and Senior politicians, including John Prescott and Nadine Dorries questioned Osborne's(treasury minister) judgement for sending a junior minister onto the programme in place of himself
(watch the video on youtube):Paxman interviews hapless minister Chloe Smith on Newsnight 26.06.2012 - Excruciating to watch

But Smith is not the first and certainly not the last to have felt the discomfort of being asked the same unanswerable question over and over again by Paxman.

The most FAMOUS is Paxo's interview with MICHAEL HOWARD in which he asked the then home secretary the same question 12 times over the dismissal of the governor of Parkhurst Prison, John Marriott. The interview in 1997 did DAMAGE Howards reputation and STALLED HIS POLITICAL AMBITION, although he did eventually become leader of the Conservative Party in 2004 but lost the 2005 General Election to Tony Blair. After that he decided to retire from politics and I suspect that this interview will haunt him for years to come.
