Politics / "Patriotic" Nigerians by Toluwani95: 11:18pm On Jun 26, 2018
Nigeria is in pensive mood right now, we've been thrown into mourning mood by the 85th minute strike of Marcus Rojo that dashed the hope of our dear super eagles at the 2018 FIFA world cup. Many Nigerians are heart broken and sad because of a football match unfortunately these same set of people have untold apathy towards their nation and its development.

I watched the 90 minute encounter at the African Amphitheater, the largest building of Obafemi Awolowo University and it was filled to the brim with Nigerians in high spirit. I thought within myself how beautiful it will be if the number of students who came to watch this match in Amphi (not to talk of those who watched at other places) will turn out to vote and become politically conscious in the 2019 general elections, our country will be a better place.

Our patriotism is in football but we are blind to the continuous raping of our Commonwealth by the elite, we are blind to the genocide going on in our land, we have untold apathy towards the coming election because we feel it's predetermined. The only reason we are where we are today is because we have folded our hands and watched.

We are only active when it comes to entertainment and sports, maybe superficial religion will make the triad but when it comes to contributing our quota to our nation's development, we are held back by personal ambition, tribalism and apathy.

Our emancipation won't come through sports, the best winning the 2018 world cup will give us is an euphoria which will die down as soon as begins. We need to pay close attention political participation - this is the only way we can be liberated and only then can the chance of excellence in sports performance come alive again!

So don't let your patriotism stop with the loss of the eagles tonight,
Be more patriotic by registering to vote and getting your PVC,
Be more patriotic by voting on the election day.
Be patriotic by holding your current office with integrity!
Be patriotic by striving to hold the unity of Nigeria not dividing it along political or religious divides!
It's time for a new generation of patriotic Nigerians to arise, will you be one of them?

Politics / A Nation Full Of Vandals by Toluwani95: 11:12pm On Nov 02, 2016
At about 9am this morning, in the broad daylight I saw a guy urinating at the entrance of new bukateria OAU, Ile-Ife. I was irked on seeing this because I can't imagine anybody urinating in front of my dad's gate at this time but since it's no man's property, he's free. Last Saturday night, as I approached my hostel gate, I saw another guy's abysmal attitude as he broke a block meant for the on-going renovation in the hall of residence, he didn’t feel any remorse but just walked by because it’s no man’s business. These examples signify the spate of vandalism of all sorts going on among the citizens of the country; though we’re lacking in many social infrastructures and benefits of good governance, irrespective of how good the leader at the centre is, we cannot get out of this mess unless we stop acts of vandalism.

Vandalism goes on at different levels, from the student who finds it difficult to flush the toilet after use, my neighbour next door that chooses to vandalize the power grid by illegal connections, the politician pilfering our commonwealth to the Niger Delta Avenger vandalising the pipeline, it is a nation full of vandals. As the axiom have it: ‘the people get the leaders they deserve’, so it is these acts of vandalism that have earned us the type of leaders we have at all levels of governance. Our status in the comity of nations as a underdeveloped 3rd world nation is also a product of this and if care isn’t heeded at this point, it will lead to the complete collapse of the country.

Politics notwithstanding, the Change begin With Me initiative of the federal government is one in the right direction (if implemented in good spirit), the desired positive change we’re expecting in Nigeria will not jump out of the blues. It must begin in the actions of every one of us; our attitude towards things must change as it’s the individual attitudes that culminate in the things which obtain at the state and national levels. Every one of us must begin to take responsibility for our dear nation Nigeria, do whatsoever is in your capacity and do it correctly, be it as a student, a civil servant, trader, entrepreneur, politician or in whichever capacity, make surep you carry out your roles and responsibilities with high sense of accountability to each of the 168 million Nigerians.

It is also important that we hold each other responsible, don’t overlook acts capable of jeopardizing our interests as a nation, we should learn to correct, chasten and rebuke (as appropriate) anybody that transgresses at any point in time. The most effective policing that can be done is possible, only when we see ourselves as instruments for maintaining law and order in our country. We cannot afford to toe this path of vandalism if anything good will become of us as a nation; IF NIGERIA MUST BE GREAT THEN THESE ACTS MUST STOP.

Religion / Pastor Osinbajo Was Wrong On Thîs by Toluwani95: 11:09pm On Oct 04, 2016
Pastor Yemi Osinbanjo was the led pastor of RCCG palm olive parish, Banana Island Lagos prior to his selection as the running mate of President Mohammadu Buhari. So it was like a journey back home when he worshipped at the parish on 2nd October 2016, he used the opportunity to charge worshippers @ the church not to lose faith in the country despite the challenges faced presently. of particular interest to me in his speech was a statement he made, he said: "The vision of the Church and that of the country were tied together." This statement is very controversial, many may agree/disagree with this assertion he made but was he correct?

The country and the church are two separate and distinct entities with different authorities; while the authority of the state is constitution, that of the church remains the Bible. According to the Bible, the vision of the church is Truth (Jesus) while for Nigeria its vision is: unity and faith, peace and progress. In pursuit of the truth, the church might fulfill all of the state's vision but in no way can the state fulfil the vision of the church. As a matter of fact the pathway of unity, faith, peace and progress of the church is entirely different: for instance, the world's way of gaining peace is an all inclusive means while the church's way is an exclusive trust in a man called Jesus. While the faith of the state rests entirely on its leadership and founder's dream, the dream of the church is in the crucified Lord.

WHAT IS THE IMPLICATION OF THIS?
That the church is different from the state has many implications of which I'll state two
1.Previous attempts to merge the church and the state resulted in perversion of faith in ancient Rome, it led to the brutality and massacre associated with the papal regime.

2. Particularly more important is the fact that having the same vision with the state will lead us to the delusion that all our pursuit is limited to this passing and perverted world. Phil 3:20 tells us that our homeland is in heaven, we are citizen of a heavenly state and mere pilgrims on earth, we are not to have a myopic vision limited to this world but a clear cut vision of life and eternity.

As much as we should strive for the unity, faith, peace and progress of our society, we live daily with a greater vision of heaven in mind and we seek unity of people in Christ not by accepting that they are also correct with other beliefs. Like John Macarthur said, the Christian Gospel is not offering heaven on earth, it is offering heaven in heaven.

Religion / Re: Can You Be A Christian And Not Go To Church? by Toluwani95: 11:50am On May 08, 2016
Going to church doesn't make you a Christian but can you be a Christian and not fellowship with others? I think it isn't possible, it's an holier-than-thou attitude, God might want you to be a change agent in the corrupt church out there. Even Jesus who was the holiest yet fellowshipped with others who weren't as half as holy as himself, so as to show us an example to follow. We are not to isolate ourselves from the world, we are to separate ourselves.

Religion / Re: How A Christian Can Be Free From Condemnation After Committing Sexual Sins by Toluwani95: 6:44pm On Apr 21, 2016
DivineSpp:

@Toluwani95, thanks for your question.

If you check the original Greek translation of that verse, including the whole chapter, (as you know the new testament was written in Greek), that verse was actually not written to believers. But as believers, we confess our sins not to be forgiven but because we have been forgiven.

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace… - Ephesians 1:7 (MKJV)
Who forgives [every one of] all your iniquities (sins)... Psalm 103:3 (AMP)
their sins and their iniquities I will remember no more. – Hebrews 10:17 (MKJV)

When you confess as a believer, you experience such a great peace in your conscience knowing God has forgiving your sins more than 2000 years ago before you ever committed them.

Also, keep confessing your righteousness in Christ until the whole truth gets into every fibre of your being.

For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of One (Jesus Christ) shall many be made righteous. – Romans 5:19 (MKJV)
For He has made Him who knew no sin, to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him (Christ Jesus). – 2 Corinthians 5:21 (MKJV)

You're blessed smiley

where in the Bible is a single epistle written to different set of pple? why will 1 John 1 be to unbelievers and 1 John 2 to believers More John used "we" in vs 9......, is John also an unbeliever

1 John 1:9 KJV
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Where's d place of confession in all you've written?

how did we get here?

Religion / 2015 In Retrospect by Toluwani95: 12:17am On Dec 18, 2015
I find it noteworthy to share some of my personal experiences in the outgoing year, not for any vain or self-glorying rather, that it may turn out to bless and impact lives.
LESSON 1: THERE’S A CHOICE WE’RE MAKING; WE ARE SHAPING OUR OWN LIVES
Monday 7th September 2015 was an especially hard day for me, it was a day I lost so much strength that I couldn’t even try to go anywhere. Almost throughout the day, I laid helpless on my bed, I had to miss a practical class and my subgroup meeting because of this untold weakness in my body; my situation was compounded by the fact that I was left alone in the room as other roomies went about their daily activities. In the evening of that very day, I regained some psychological and emotional strength but was still physically weak and this provided me the opportunity to make some meditations about the state of my life; and as I continued to meditate on some of these things as discovered with the choices I am making, I am shaping my life, and the topic above was the subject of my meditation.
Many at times, I try to envision what I’ll become in the next few years and I tell myself I want to be a responsible husband, father, an hardworking man, a man that loves to read, a man that is fervently serving God, loving Him and doing exploits for Him, a sought-after medical practitioner, in fact endless goes my wish list! But I asked myself one honest question, am I truly on the pathway to making these come into reality or will they forever remain empty wishes? If am ready to become a hardworking man, am I diligent as a student? If I want to be a responsible husband, am I a responsible friend, son or brother? If the answer is a yes, then congratulations to me, but if it’s a no, I have to consider my ways (Hagg 1:7)!
For a vast majority of us, we like myself have a long wish list of what we want to become, some of them are long enough to make an entire notebook when they are compiled. This is a very good thing, at least it means we are not NFAs but this is not enough, it is not enough for us to have a list of what we want to be, rather we should from this time start to work towards what we want to become.
I have met quite a number of youths who wish to have an happy marriage but at present, they are jumping from one partner to another.
Another category say when I grow up, I’ll raise up Godly children who will live Godly, dress modestly and correct the ills of the society but this is currently far from the lifestyles they themselves are living at the moment.
A group of them want to be very industrious in the very near future but they are at present more lazy than the laziest object on earth.
Others they foolishly say, “I’ll become very serious with God when I get older” but leave me to enjoy my youthful days now, let me walk in the ways of my heart and in the eyes of my sight; sorry friend, if you’re in this shoe, you’re still living in a dreamland, awaken out of thy sleep and turn to Christ to save you now.
Whatsoever you’ll become tomorrow is determined by how you live today, if you’re living a way contrary to the destination you want to attain, don’t be expectant of any miracle unless you like me will consider your ways.
I know a vast majority of us want to live a life that is a deviation from the status quo; we desire to be change agents in our respective disciplines, we honestly desire to be used of God in transforming our dying nation but we are yet to be transformed ourselves, we want to make virtuous stand tomorrow but we are far from being virtuous, for some of us, we have at various times made serious decisions and determined to follow it through to the end but unfortunately we soon became tired and can’t pull through: Like the great Apostle of all times, to will indeed is present in us but how to perform that which is good we find not.
Though you have failed several times but I’m happy to announce to you that there is a man who is able to make us pull through with our determination and decision to see a change wrought in us and through us and it takes only believing in him for us to be able to attain this realm, his name is Jesus: it takes believing in Him and in his death and resurrection, confessing and having a readiness to forsake your sins and he will come and dwell with you making you to overcome all of your indiscipline and transforming you totally. Do not hesitate today; Christ is ready and able to save you.
#jesusSavesAndTransforms and remember with the choice you make today, you are shaping your own life.…..
