KEVIND:That’s what they call certificate in the US. You can’t actually say Diploma certificate. It’s PhD diploma, Master diploma etc. Sometimes it might be called degree certificate. |
Listen to some of the Okun languages from the sites

You can listen to some bible stories in Oworo(Oworo) language from this site http://globalrecordings.net/en/program/A37859 Note: Oworo was spelt as Aworo by the Europeans in till around independence. You can also listen to other yoruba languages |
falopey:All notable cities, but not all the Yoruba speaking people around the world can perfectly trace back to Ife. Well, that was my personal opinion. So many things have happened that has obscured history, since we don't have sure documents, we can't be too certain about a lot of things. We have to start from somewhere, and since oral history is what we've got, fine, we have to do with it-I'll rather believe an oba than what the white man says. They don't know any better. However, oral tradition is very limited and many of those historical accounts are now being challenged. Oral accounts have not been able to give a good story of the origin of Oduduwa, if there were people in Ife before Oduduwa , the relationship between Benin and Yoruba etc for example. The truth is that, it very easy to twist history when there is no sure record. Igala and Itsekiri for instance would have denied completely any link with the Yoruba race, if not for the linguistic evidence that is so compelling . Well, I will change the word "political" cos can be misconstrued. |
Bellfun:1.Many non Okuns assume all Yorubas from Kogi are Kabba. Also, many Okuns(Bunu,Yagba ijumu etc), for whatsoever reason, claim Kabba, especially when interacting with other Yorubas. 2. The Nupe incursion(led by Etsu Masaba)into Okun land devastated the okun people. I believe the okuns will have been many times larger if not for the incursion. The incursions was the major reason why Kogi (formally part of Kwara), is in the north. The Nupe incursion caused the greatest vicissitude of the Okun people. 3.The Igalas were not so affected cos they, more or less, surrendered on time, and later formed an alliance with the Nupes. The Egbira, who were in the past discriminated by the Okun groups, were able to push back the Nupe army. But later, with the help of the Igalas, were also defeated by the Nupe army. It was the okuns that suffered most from the activity of the Nupes . This explains the population distribution and the no. of Muslims in Kogi.(many non-okuns from kogi might not want to agree with this part) The Nupe Domination ended with the coming of the Europeans. 4. The Nupe imposed not only taxes but their culture on the Okuns. So some people were born into an era were Nupe language and culture was common, and in some cases fashionable. Till today the effect of this seen in the okun language and culture. Oworo suffered from this the most. Till recently, the Olu of Oworo answered the title "Etsu", and till today, many chieftaincy titles still have Nupe origin.Thank God for the coming of the West, if not... I seriously doubt if Oyo, Benin, Ibadan or any other big powers of those days would have helped. 5. The Idea of Okuns being Yoruba started gaining grounds with the efforts of Awo and the interaction of the okuns with the other Yorubas through trade, education and religion( TAC and Babalola comes to mind). 6. Also, many centuries ago there was really nothing like 'Yoruba' or 'Okun' group. However, the okuns intermarried and had cordial relationship amongst themselves and weren't discriminating against each others like they did against the Bassa,Egbira and others. They shared similar culture e.g the traditional religions, masquerading and women secret cult history are very similar. 7. Scholars are worried that the history of Okuns has not be taken seriously. All the points above makes it likely for some okun people, most likely a few decades ago, to want to deny their "Yoruba-ness". It will be hard for anybody to deny these days, not a person from Kabba esp. |
buoye1:I don't think "pure" is the right word. Historically, everyone spoke his own dailect. In fact, there were wars between the dialects and they never really saw themselves as "Yoruba" until the Europeans came. Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther, in an effort to translate the bible, made the first attempt to standardize the Yoruba language. He used mainly the Oyo dialect and added words from the other dialects. Oyo was preferable since it was intelligible among most dialects and was also been spoken by, arguably, the largest population of the Yoruba race. Further standardization followed Samuel's work. There is really no clear evidence to show which of the dialects gave birth to the others, just as there are really to solid evidences on the real origin and migration pattern of the Yoruba race. I personally think most groups just claim Ife to be politically correct. |
The Yoruba dialects in Kogi includes Owe, Bunu, Gbede, Ijumu, Ikiri, Oworo and Yagba. They (along side some other dialects in Kwara and Ondo) are called Northeast Yoruba.

I'm not for that statement. He should start learning to speak like democrat cos he's no longer a despot. |
You guys are sounding like those that voted in the north didn't vote out of sentiment. They voted Buhari cos he is theirs. Simple. Now we'll know how wise he is and how far he'll go. Let's see if he'll appease the se and ss or he'll wont to form James bond. |
For now, it seems virtually all Nigerians are high. when we're done with all these self destruction we call politics, and we begin to to reap the rewards of our, should I say childishness or political naivety, we'll learn not to pull down our country before other nations. No country is simply interested in any others good, it is firstly for selfish national interests. So, that Americans, Moroccans or whosoever is dancing a particular tone does not mean it's right; in fact, it is a reason to be wary. Not all of us like Jonathan's gov. but we don't have to start insulting ourselves, thinking we're insulting him, before the world. You don't get credit for calling your president clueless, you'll rather appear clueless. |
dridowu:No ! You're wrong, he wouldn't be remembered for what he didn't say. pls get the right quote. Most people didn't watch the chats neither did they bother to see the transcript. |
asadike:I hope this is not true. We need more and more cooperation. In fact, we need "a united voice" that the best of weapons. If Nigeria fails today, France can't save Niger, Chad or Cameroon, they'll all fail too. The U.S military trained Iraqi Army, sold and gave to them the best of weapons. Guess what happened when ISIS came? They almost took over the country in a few weeks. The US Army had to come in, along side their friends, with the best of fighter jets to help dislodge ISIS. Guess what? After all the billions spent and the thousands of air strikes against ISIS, they are yet to be dislodged. The US and it allies spent over a trillion dollar in Afghan but couldn't win the Taliban. Let's give NA a chance. We can't keep insulting then and hope they'll wanna die for us. We should know that salary and allowances are not enough motivation for soldiers in a real war but patriotism. This is not peace keeping, neither is it really a conventional war. Let not worsen their state of their morals with our posts, the service chiefs included. Niger and co should stop joining the west to score cheap points out of our predicament. In the past, northern leaders especially-and Buhari inclusive- were directly or indirectly motivating those boys, and to the contrary demoralizing the NA. Some others that could help didn't help, cos of political interests; while some were for religious reasons, sympathetic to the course of boko. Now things have gone out of hand and we're facing the consequences. Everyone of us, including the Northern leaders, and ppl those that were sabotaging or sympathizing,Jona, past presidents, media, service chiefs etc one way or the other, will facing the consequences of our actions and inactions and will still face till God knows when. Let's work together to cut the days and consequences short. And lastly, for Buhari(or whosoever) to try to simplify the causes for the dragging of this war against BH to Jona and corruption, is to either be totally oblivious of reality or to simply be mischievous. And I'm still wondering why no one has asked him what he meant by fighting Boko haram is fight the north; why no one has asked him if he'll treat them like Niger Delta militants were treated i.e by giving Amnesty as he went about admonishing Jona months back. |

Many people don't watch debates or at least get what was said from credible sources. Below is the exact quote of JEG on corruption. “Over 70 percent of what are called corruption, even by EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) and other anti-corruption agencies is not corruption, but common stealing.” the President said during his 7th Presidential Media Chat on Sunday. |

I totally agree with the president. however, sometimes as a leader you do what your people want. Nigerian want some sort of aggressive fight against corruption. why not give it to them. OBJ did that ( despite his own dirty garment) and he is been praised. Buhari did that ( despite his selective justice, fighting only financial corruption and stealing, tribalism etc) and he's been praised for it. JEG also lacks eloquence to persuasively present his visions and programs. That's my no. 1 problem with him. sometimes he answers questions in a way that leaves one embarrassed, and it would usually require did thought and carefulness to make sense of what he says, even when he's making sense. Also he didn't exactly say stealing isn't corruption. see pix below. But wait o. But Buhari said Abacha was not corrupt and perpetually tries to defend the military(except Ibb). So, if he or the other military leaders we've had were not or are not corrupt, where did corruption come from then? Oh abi he too meant Abacha wasn't corrupt but a common thief( ole)? Why did he not probe his tenure as petroleum minister after he became president. Thought there were issues of corruption under under his watch( of an amount wc makes $20 billion of today a joke) ? Why is nobody asking Buhari what he meant by "fighting Boko haram is fighting the North". He who was giving psychological support to Boko is now accusing the gov. of allowing corruption in the army and not boasting the moral of soldiers. Why didn't Amanpour ask the questions above ? Buhari has been using "corruption" as excuse to fulfill his selfish desires since ages. Assuming he is honest and sincere about his quest, do we think the only problem of Nigeria is corruption and once it is solved every other thing will simply fall in place? Every single question of "why" and "how" is answered with "corruption this corruption that". Nigerian shine your eyes. While I agree that we have chronic corruption problem, I do not believe Buhari's acute method will solve it all. He's yet to tell us how he'll build an efficient system that will frustrate corruption. Nobody, not even 20 Buhari, will kill corruption, it can only be reduced, controlled or tamed it cannot die.

To Buhari, the only problem Nigeria has is corruption and the only solution is fighting it radically. I find it hard to believe that this man really can change this country for the better. |
alaoeri:So it all humiliation right? |
Someone should paste a copy of the affidavit pls

Virtually all politicians are good liars just like their father.
|
What a great show that will be.
|
That was a bad one. Fayose should know that this is not Ekiti, but Nigeria. He should keep his revelation to himself. Anybody can die anytime. We've seen doctors who tell patients they have few days to live dying before those patients. Let's just play this politics right and leave death and violence out of it.

Jimi all the way. But when will the men below me have their own debate now.

When Fashola started being talkative I knew he'll put himself in trouble. Fashola should leave politics to politicians, who can lie without being caught. What a grave mistake. Wait o. Could it have been deliberate?
|
Orikinla:Unfortunately for you, Buhari(with tears) also said 2011 will be the last election for him. So both can't be trusted on that ground. |
LogicPower:I'm just stunned when GMB supporters think they are objective and informed. |
It is unfortunate that Nigeria has remain divided. The effect of our lack of unity outweighs the effect of every of our problems altogether. Now who will gain from a North-SouthS violent? Certainly, nobody. The almajiris will kill whosoever doesn't look like hausa fulani, including Yorubas and Ibos. non Hausas will retaliate. ND boys will destroy oil facilities which will worsen our economic situation. Boko Haram may not renounce violence even with their fellow Muslim as the President( that is if Buhari wins), but instead will leverage on the violence to wreck more havoc. We'll all lose at the end of the day. So pls. let's stop all this hatred because it can only worsen our woes. |
