Grammar is a combination of rules and conventions. What’s the difference? Well, there are the rules, like a verb must agree with its subject. By that rule, “he say” is incorrect. Then there are conventions, which are uses of language that are common enough that even though they break the “rules” they become “correct” simply through repeated usage. There are other conventions that vary from place to place, but that’s a much bigger discussion!

In the introduction to the 2003 edition of The King’s English, Matthew Parris reminds us that “There is no authority. English is not a managed language. Nobody is in charge.” Over time, English speakers themselves become the authority. Some accepted conventions sound very natural, like saying “I’m good” instead of “I’m well.” Through their ubiquity, they’ve become an accepted part of the language.

So, what about “between you and I”? Technically, it should be “between you and me.” However, the phrase “between you and I” has become accepted as an idiom of its own. Evenhakespeare used it! Confusing “me” and “I” is one of the most common grammar problems. Using the word “I” can sound learned and elite; however this leads to it being overused when it’s actually incorrect. This problem is called hypercorrect incorrectness.

The “you and me” problem is more confusing when there are two objects, like in the sentence “Thanks for inviting my husband and I to dinner.” If you’re ever unsure, here’s a simple trick. Omit the first person mentioned and see how it sounds. If you said, “Thanks for inviting I to dinner,” it sounds wrong. Whoops. Without two people, it is easier to use your ear to hear if “I” or “me” is grammatically correct.

In an email to the Associated Press, First Assistant U.S. Attorney for Oregon, Scott Erik Asphaug, said this is one of the largest tax fraud cases in the United States in which stolen personal identification information was used to defraud the IRS. Its scope is staggering.
According to the US Attorney's office for Oregon, a Nigerian man, Michael Oluwasegun Kazeem, 24, has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison for his role in the bilking of over $11 million via an identity-theft scheme from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Kazeem, who came to the United States on a student visa, has been sentenced in federal court in the southern Oregon town of Medford on Nov. 8 for conspiracy to commit mail fraud, aggravated identity theft and mail fraud.

Kazeem has also been ordered by U.S. District Court Judge Ann Aiken to pay $4.3 million in restitution.

Last August, Kazeem’s brother, Emmanuel Kazeem, was convicted in Medford of mail and wire fraud, aggravated identity theft and conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud. The evidence was presented at his trial and showed Emmanuel Kazeem purchasing over 91,000 taxpayer identities from a Vietnamese hacker.

Kazeem joined in 2013 to help his brother, who lived in Bowie, Maryland, and Nigeria. His brother's sentencing is scheduled for March 22, 2018.

In a statement from the U.S. Attorney's office, it was determined by an IRS criminal investigation that the co-conspirators obtained personal identifying information of more than 259,000 people, and used it to acquire over 19,500 electronic filing PINs from the IRS.

The co-conspirators obtained and used pre-paid debit cards with the stolen identities to receive direct electronic tax refund deposits. They eventually filed over 10,000 fraudulent federal tax returns, attempting to obtain over $91 million in refunds, with actual losses amounting to over $11 million.

Refunds were withdrawn from the debit cards and at least 2,000 wire transfers totaling over $2.1 million were sent to Nigeria.

Authorities were alerted to the case when a Medford victim told the IRS in May 2013 that false federal and Oregon state tax returns were filed electronically using her and her husband’s names.

The returns included personally identifiable information, including their social security numbers and dates of birth. The federal refund was deposited into an account via a prepaid debit card in a suburb of Chicago while the state refund was directed to a bank account in Texas.

Back in 2014, the co-conspirators also were able to gain access to the IRS “Get Transcript” system and obtained sensitive taxpayer information to file additional fraudulent returns. Because of these and other security breaches, the IRS discontinued the “Get Transcript” program nationwide in 2015, the U.S. Attorney’s office said in a statement.

A newspaper in Medford, The Mail Tribune, reported that tax returns were filed using 13,203 accounts stolen from CICS Employment Services, a company based in Lincoln City, Oregon that performs pre-employment background checks.

The owner of CICS said he lost $420,000 worth of business, and handled hundreds of calls from distressed victims, many with limited means, the newspaper reported.

No taxpayers suffered monetarily as a result of the crimes, but were caused a plethora of issues.

"I’m deeply and emotionally sorry for the trouble I caused. What I did was wrong," Kazeem said in court.

He is to be deported back to Nigeria after completing his sentence.

Yes, the Judge granted them bail. All accussed are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent court of law. Why? So that the innocent persons cannot be jailed wrongly. NY is the acronym for New York. Since this acronym is a shortened version of the phrase, by definition the acronym is also an abbreviation.
Like abbreviations, acronyms are used daily, and most people can interpret the meaning of common acroynms without much thought. For example:

You go to the ATM instead of to the automatic teller machine
You give your time zone as EST, CST or PST instead of as Eastern Standard Time, Central Standard Time or Pacific Standard Time.

Excluding allowances like furniture, housing, security, medical etc. So whether you studied history in the University, but got hired in one of these companies, like in HR , Public affairs, or Procurement. For the records, the court did not free the guy, the judge struck out the case and order the DSS to remand him in their custody pending when he will be recharged to court and arrainged properly. What happened is that the Police and DSS are at war over which agency would do the prosecution of the case, read the full text of the judgement in the punch newspaper.

Seeing of white smoke is not enough to suggest ''controlled demolition''. Debris of cement dust produces white smoke especially when agitated as it were! Did the head of homicide Panti, visit the site? Did he collect samples of debris at the site for forensic analysis? What did the result show? People i was surfing the net and decided to visit the supreme court of Nigeria website at www.supremecourt.gov.ng to check out judgments made this year. What i saw shocked me! I clicked on judgments then court judgments. The judgments are arranged in years e.g. 2012(7) where 7 is number of judgments passed and filled. I searched for 2014 but saw 2040! So i clicked on 2040 and boom! Its has been hacked by dea: the thing is the web administrators of the website www.supremecourt.gov.ng do not even know that the information online has been compromised. Please if anyone has direct links to the supreme court of Nigeria knidly help us to inform them so the could correct this seeming national embarrassment. I dont understand why someone should desecrate such a sensitive institution in the name of hacking. Sad!

Few months ago, we witness the deaths of so many Nigerian youths in the immigration recruitment organised by an agency ABBA MORO supervised! Nothing happened. We all wished R.I.P. to the deceased and that is it.
Few days ago, we heard the ''attempted jail break'' at Kirikiri medium prisons in Lagos,. Were scores of inmates were shot dead! If an inmate ''tries'' to escape, is it not rational to shoot outside the fence? How come they were shot within the prison walls? Right there in the middle of the park, they shot the ''rioters''. So why the riot? Inmates were protesting lack of basic welfare services. Fan, food etc. Why cant the Deputy Comptroller of Prisons, Medium Prisons address the issue? Why call in soldiers and Naval personnel? Why? What happened to the prisons armed squad? These are questions Abba Moro should answer. As Nigerians we deserve to know why any Nigerian is shot, be it a free man, a criminal, a convict, a suspect or an awaiting trial inmate. All should be accounted for. The prisons is for safe custody. Some are still in trial. The guilty ones should be reformed, and rehabilitated and not killed!!! Now, who will answer these questions? This is a death too many. I call on all meaning Nigerian youths, please arise, dont be driven by sentiments. Speak out. Be a voice for the voiceless. Be a voice for the oppressed. Where they cannot speak, please speak for them, let the world know what is going on, tomorrow it could be my brother, my kindred or even me!.
