beckycute1: Hello all.. I applied for a PGD with Selkirk College and they reverted saying I have more than the 4 year gap required after 1st Degree.
Is this rule applicable to other Canadian schools for PGD..
I have a 3.49 cgpa and it will be difficult getting into a direct masters programme.
I need the gurus advice pls @beckycute1 No it is not a general rule i was also denied admission with same reasons but later got offer with 3 different colleges Please try centenniel, fanshawe etc depending on your intended programe |

jnyuwa02: I am not going to be arguing stuff I don't know bro. Who says I haven't applied? I applied in Abuja and nobody asked me for a transcript so I didn't submit. I graduated first class honors, yet I didn't include my transcript because my school sent me official one and it's taking forever to reach Nigeria. I couldn't wait in perpetuity. I would not be the first person to do so. Another first class guy on this NL even beat me plenty. Not only did he not enclose transcript, he did not enclose SOP. Lol. And he got visa in four weeks. Go figure. The more you think you know, CIC will surprise you. Anyways do what is in your best interest. Best wishes. All this explanation does not change the fact that transcript is a requirement, if you decide to break rules and it works for then good for you. But lets not dish out wrong information because of newbies and silent followers |

jnyuwa02: Haha, it's easy to see why they approved your PGD bro. You are a different brand of PGD not fitting the brand that wants to run away. For crying out loud, you have a valid USA and Uk visa bro. This one is a cake walk now. Congrats!! I laugh at the thought of people when they speak about intending pgd students the bolded above is totally a wrong assumption you guyz need to research well about pdg/pgc programs it is usually targeted at guyz with work experience and its more industry relevant than an MBA. I am not taking away the the fact that the VO has guidelines in making their decision but i will say there is no different brand of PGD and i dont think the VO sees them as running away. I will say here if you are going for PGD please work more on convincing the VO on your purpose of visit even if your UG and the PGD course relates. Also make sure you have a very obvious and strong family tie and it shall end in praise. Please note that i stand to be corrected this is just my opinion. |

Austinpee4: Oh okay! I will get back to you as soon as I review it again.
To your question, you should fill the tuition as written on your offer letter. If its written for a year or for the entire program, fill accordingly. The Visa officer will use the fee quotation on your offer to ascertain if your available funds meet the financial requirement for your study permit. Make sure you have the required funds available. Tuition(as written)+ 10,000 or more and also fill your application form appropriately.
Regards. Aiit sir noted |

Austinpee4: Emmm, i noticed somebody answered you already and i also agree with the person. You should fill 10k for room and board. Anything from 3k and above for other. The cumulative of tuition+room and board +other will then sum up your funds available.
Also, ensure you have the equivalent of the funds declared in the SOA. The available funds in the statements should be alittle over the funds you declare especially if your sponsor is a 3rd party. However, if these funds are transfered to you or atleast your first year tuition is paid, it will allay any doubt as to commitment of sponsor. @Austinpee4, Please i sent you a pm since yesterday please help review when you are less busy. i have worked on the concerns you raised on my SOP and resent+ what if in the case of a 2year program tuition of 30kCAD ? am i suppose to state the full 2years cost of 30k in the form or just 1year tuition of 15k |

Osemigho: I guessed right. That is where you blew it. Although you had full scholarship, you mentioned your school and your bro as your sponsor. Too bad you bro balance was too low to afford fees and upkeep. Next time, write "Full Scholarship" only in that place and put your room and board at a 8,000 while others can be 4,000. All in all ensure what you write in room and board plus others is 10,000 and above. You can then get a letter of support from your brother and his account balance read 700k -1m. Analyze my list of documents submitted. You have a profile similar to mine.
My sincere appreciation to Nony1, Yemdogg, and TheSoj, I almost made the same mistake.
Please, before you submit, the opinions of knowledgeable persons on your app. Personally, I frustrated TheSoj with questions so much that he started saying " we talked about this before na, I'm sure you know this na,etc". Also, don't just like post on this thread, use you like and share button to track informations that you believe will be useful for your application
Also, let us review successful people's list of documents submitted and construct ours from it. It is usually on page one of every part, thanks to those in-charge. I used it for mine, and thank God my case was successful. In most cases, the road to success is well defined but most people don't see it.
Just my opinions. No man is an island of knowledge. Wish us all the best. @Osemigho Great work you are doing but a quick one, are u saying if my tuition is 35k for 2yrs i should state the whole 35k as tuition the 8k and 4k for room board and others or should i just state my first year which is 15,500 cad then roam and others 8k and 5k please clarify |

Will adopting him make you feel more responsible for him and feel better? If so, fine. It's totally up to you. Most times the visa is denied for wrong information or incomplete information.Unless you used an agent who filled in wrong information and you didn't tick yes to the question of using agent, then you would have a problem. However, truth always trump the day, so keep your hopes up and let us know how it ends. Hello mamacajah, Pardon me i dont totally understand your response can you please break it down further!! are u saying i should state the truth that i applied for U.S visit using the services of an agent hence the denial or i can just thick yes and give a generic answer saying reason for denial not stated. Saying an agent filled in false info, do you have proof backing that statement? Was it ticked that your us visa application was completed with the help of an agent?
I believe a simple ''Yes'' is all you need.
Just my thought though.
Gurus in the house, your input is needed too.
Warm Regards DereI @DereI, thanks for your response but if you have filled the form before u should know that if you have thicked yes you will have to explain your yes below. My question now is what is the best way to explain the situation |

Hello sirmicholo, In my own case i paid an agent who applied for U.S visit 5years ago with wrong information and i was denied because i couldnt answer the V.O confidently now am about to submit my canada study application. can i state the above as reasons for denial? can they see the infos i used on the U.S application? i am planning to tell them the truth stating ( i applied for U.S visit with the assistant of an agent who gave false details and information about myself and the whole application hence the denial.) hope it wont affect my current application negatively @Austinpee4 your professional input is required here sir |

My own case; After applying with no app fee requested, i got a message from one centennial africa representative stating i should pay CAD200. Humber on the other hand (with CAD75 app fee) gave me a username and password which i use to enter myHumber page to check for progress on my application.
@tommee please advise @sarang the 500 deposit will be a commitment from you to secure your sit for the program which will eventually be used as part of your tuition fee i guess maybe you should mail them to get more clarification @valenti12 the 75cad app fee is compulsory for humber they would not process your document if you dont pay and for centenniel they have alot of nigerians working there you will likely get mails see yoruba names with centennial signature i spent a lot on calling the college before i got the offer because they dont have an online application portal |

I have scaled the first hurdle of my application process i just got admission into 2 colleges and am in a dilemma right now both colleges have offered me PGD global business management HUMBER COLLEGE and CENTENNIEL COLLEGE and both are 2 years duration Please i need advice from people already studying in canada as both schools are located in toronto My dilemma exactly is centenniel requires a payment deposit of 2300CAD before final offer with a deadline of july 10th for winter 2018 while Humber has offered a full admission but i have to pay 7900 for first semester after my visa is granted. Humber also has a co-op work placement option which is also an advantage. I would really appreciate an advise based on quality of education and college ranking. I am also planning on mailing HUMBER telling them i wanna pay part of the tuition and get a receipt to show and to apply for TRv Shout out to @Folumade1 who has been helpful through the application gurus please your input is required |

Folumade1: i am Folumade1 a silent follower of this thread, applied via the online route in January was delayed in March
reason: purpose of visits and family ties{ i personally think Paper route is the best as it gives the VO who i assume will be busy going through more than a 1000 application ample opportunity to view your applications on a first hand basis} this is more important as i learnt that even the docs submitted online will have to be printed out to be reviewed so shy not just take it to VFS and endure the shit those ones too will show you from the security who sells special numbers to the VFS officials wey go bone as if una they fight.
Moreoso, i applied for a PGC programme as i have a 2.2 B.sc and i was told MBA was impossible for a 2.2. so there was this arguments that PGC are usually delayed this might actually be true o guys. Coz i ensured i crossed all my T's and dot my I's so Family ties for where when my kids-wife-siblings birth certificates where scanned alongside.
Of course i personally have a friend who is in Canada now and has a PR that was granted 4 years ago on a PGC admission. but i guess the world keeps changing and the odds have changed.
oh, of course i am not discouraged neither are my desperate these are two factors or things i would like us all to be wary of i understand Nigeria is hard for some (my case is different though with all sense of humility) but let's just keep calm me i think VO's are humans and some of them have once in a while bias and skoin skoin, my prayer is ours meet someone with the right frame of mind.
of course earlier when i applied online i already passed Medicals as i did upfront so what i just did now was attach the so that they are BIASED as far as PGC is concerned i think so, yet i am not discouraged and neither do i want anyone to be .
Peeps i have re-applied and i am positive i will be given ( LIFE AND DEATH in the tongue) so to all TRV hopefuls be calm, ensure your SOP is well detailed and in sections with clear headings and above all say it in God's hearing Once and go back to your normal life believing that God's will for us is better than what we could imagine. Believe me i have been there i was always checking my online account every day concerned etc.
Oh i have a wonderful school Humber institute of Technology whom i explained to when my visa was still in process and i explained to them i will like to defer to September, 2017 and they assisted immediately with a new admission letter.
So having said that Guys keep hope alive and please avoid desperation
Best wishes as we both await our TRV which hopefully will be very speedy @Folumade1, Really like your spirit of re-applying immediately it will surely end in praise in IJN, i have applied to the same school and the same course you applied for and reading through your posts and other gurus in the house i can deduce that a very strong SOP will go all the way especially when applying for a PGD program. However i would really wanna beg for your assistance in reviewing my SOP when it is written or better still if you can assist with the sample or highlights of yours, i will also like to find out how long did it take you to secure your first admission and did they request for official transcript to be sent directly from your Uni? i tried sending you a personal message but i don't no if it eventually went through. i will be really grateful and glad if you can assist me the SOP issue olumtaiwo@ gmail.com your approval news is coming soonest |
Travel › Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 12 by tommee: 10:20pm On May 10, 2017 |
thesoj: I don't mean to scare anyone off applying for a TRV if they fit the categories I described. My point is just that getting a TRV for these categories should not be considered a slam dunk. A thoughtful, coherent, convincing, and well-prepared SOP and an application that is complementary to your educational and employment trajectory can overcome these barriers. But then you have to be honest with yourself as to if you truly can paint a logical and convincing picture to the VO; this applies to every candidate although the barrier is higher for some than others.
For example: 1. Can you justify to the VO precisely how a PGD in global business management would improve your skill-set and career trajectory (given your previous educational history and work experience)? 2. Can you explain precisely what it is about the global business management PGD program that you wouldn't be able to learn in Nigeria? This is extraordinarily important. (but don't mock Nigeria in your SOP while making this point; it will backfire if you do) 3. Can you explain precisely what plans you have on using the new skills from the PGD program in Nigeria? etc. (using specific business-related examples... provide some evidence and possibly references to show that you've done some research into the opportunities) 4. Do you have a justification for why you are going for a PGD and not as masters in management or an MBA? (saying that your grades in undergrad were bad might not be the best way to win over the VO. Think of some of the differences between a PGD and a masters, and identify how those differences may benefit you.)
There are no hard and fast rules for TRVs; VOs view each application on its own merit. This January, someone I helped (family friend) was approved for a TRV for an advanced diploma course even though he already had a BSc. One of the reasons why this application was successful was because we went above and beyond to convince the VO about his purpose of visit (in light of his previous BSc and work experience), keeping in mind that the probability of refusal was high. You can read about it here, here, here, and here.
Also, you may be able to get an MBA admission, but you'll need to do the legwork of contacting the different schools and making a case for yourself (possibly before you even apply). @theoj Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm i am totally blown and woowed at your wealth of experience and contribution here most especially after reading the steps and stages you took that got your family friends TRV approved. However i have taken note of the bolded above and it will surely form the major part of my SOP. lastly i wanna beg and ask if you can help review my SOP when its written to be sure am on the right track or better still can i contact you privately for speedy communication please dont say no GOD bless you. |

thesoj: Hey bro, smiling mood activated here too.
[s]I am always happy to be proven wrong but it's not clear to me how a postgraduate diploma is different from a post bacc diploma except in name only. I do stand corrected if I am mistaken, however.[/s]
On second thought you are right that they are not equivalent... I googled it and it appears that just one school in Canada offers this exact course and the same school also has a graduate diploma which they consider to be higher than the post bacc. Thanks for the correction!
Having said that, switching to a PGD won't automatically solve his problems (though I agree with you that the program level is also likely an issue), though switching to masters would help. But in either case, @chinograd needs to write a strong SOP explicitly justifying his desired educational trajectory.
From my unscientific observation of this thread over the past ~two years, PGD visa applicants in business administration or international business management or human resources management seem to get denied a lot. To me the reason is almost obvious, it is difficult to make a case to the VO that you need to go to Canada to study these courses at the PGD level. It is not impossible to get a TRV for these courses, but the application has to be extremely well put together. So yes I'd suggest he go for a masters or an MBA if he really wants to gain unique knowledge, given his three years of experience.
@thesoj The bolded in your post above scares me because you are talking from the professional side of view and i might fall in that category. i study banking and finance in my UG and i have worked in a bank as a marketer and currently working with a telecoms comp in their finance dept for my career progression all i can apply for is pgd global business management considering my 2:2 grade and i already applied and expecting admission from 2 colleges i really need gurus to shed more light to my chances of getting a TRV @austinepee4 and gurus please assist and advice if theres any other course i can apply for and which goes in line with my UG and work experience |
