No. While the FED Chairman is nominated by the president, his appointment is ratified by the US senate and the US constitution provides that the FED chairman may not be sacked because of his policies and his opinions.
In event that he is to be removed from office before the expiration of his tenure, the decision must be ratified by a 2/3 majority of the senate.

Programming / Re: What Can One Do With Just Html? by tomX1(m): 12:11am On Jan 02, 2014
One of the coolest ways I discovered for making a web page is to first get a graphical view of the page. You could get an artist to help out if need be.
You can then chop up the graphical view with a photo editing software. My favourite for web design is Paint shop pro.
Now by using table to organise your page you assign the chopped up pieces of the graphics as the background to the appropriate cells of the table and do any fine tuning needed.
This system has given me great results in the past.

As for the color combination of the page you displayed: well you do know how to use contrast but yellow doesn't just appeal to me (thats my personal preferences). There is only so much you can achieve with background colors. Try using graphics as well.
Programming / Re: What Can One Do With Just Html? by tomX1(m): 1:22am On Jan 01, 2014
Lets start with the <body> tag:
You could actualy add alot in there including background music for your page or background pictures instead of background colors etc.

<bgsound src="myMusic.mp3" loop="-1">
Put this tag just before your body tag and it will add the sound track "myMusic.mp3" as a background track to your page. The loop="-1" bit means the sound track will loop perpertualy. However if you specify a positive value, say 3, then it will loop 3 times. In this case the music will have to be in the same folder as the page. If you use it well it could be very nice but if you use it wrongly then that will be one ugly page to go to.
Note that this tag is one of the few html tags that do not require a closing tag. DONOT ADD </bgsound>

<body topmargin="10" leftmargin="10" background="anyNiceImage.jpg">
This will add the image anyNiceImage.jpg as a background to your site. Could give a realy wonderful effect if well used or it could get realy ugly realy fast.

Not a bad first attempt.
To realy get something beautiful out you need to work more with tables, frames and framesets and you need graphichs and roll overs too. I will paste some tags that you will find helpful.

To put it simply:

Html was something I digested within a few hours. When I talk of learning Java script in days I was not talking about me I was setting what I considered a reasonable timeframe for him. I was doing crazy things with Javascript from day 1.

The fact is with Html you can do alot of the things that CSS enables you to do.
CSS however makes things easier for you.
With mere HTML you can change your background, have background pictures even animated gif and such like as your background etc. I did all the doables with html way back when.
However why stay stuck on barebones html when you can realy add power to your sites with CSS, Javascript, PHP, and such likes. Most of these will only take you anything from a couple of hours to a few days to learn.
In the amount of time you will spend pondering on issues and waiting to get "good advice" on nairaland and elsewhere you could have learnt the basic of just about any scripting language or any tool to compliment your html.

TV/Movies / Re: Who Is The Strongest 'Super Hero' So Far? by tomX1(m): 7:32pm On Dec 04, 2013
In DC Comic world, the most powerful hero that ever came about is the Android. He duplicates what ever prowess you have by simply lookung at you.
In one episode where he was searching for the meaning of his existence, he journeyed to earth but had to pass by Oa (the planet that houses the head quaters of the green latern corp) the laterns thought he was out to attack them and all the laterns formed a barricade in space to cordone him off. In the blink of an eye he dispersed them all, broke the cordon and moved their planet off to an unknow location (it happened so fast they thought he destroyed it). When he approched earth, the full might of the justice league including superman could not even slow him down. Luckily he was only comming to have a chat with lex luthor.

In Marvel world it is unsdiputedly Hulk. Especialy the hulk as potrayed in world war hulk. He was a world breaker and he also had his withs about him. But only one other super hero dude could stop him so that other guy should be the strongest in marvel.

aadejesu: wait ooooo, the article says she's receiving 400 dollars a week, and her son contributes another 400 in a month. that is like 2000 a month, about 320,000 in naira. a lot of Americans don't make up to this in a month and never complain. based on the amount she's earning, there is more to this story IMO.

Well she does pay rent of $1k per month and when you factor in their medical expenses for this aging couple plagued with diseases and then throw in other bills and dont forget tax. She probably dont have enough to go on.

My take has always been that if you live in a place where you spend over 10% percent of your income on rent then that place is too expensive for you.

This is the formular that works for me and I have been doing that since I was earning N75k/month:
SAVE FIRST!
I simply decide what I intend to save before I even begin to look at my expenses. In my case I save 2/3 of what I earn.
Then you make your budget on what you have left. What ever you cant cater to from the rest you simply cant afford.

Health / Facebook Use Harmful To Wellbeing by tomX1(m): 12:19pm On Aug 18, 2013
Culled from a BBC article.

Using Facebook can reduce young adults' sense of well-being and satisfaction with life, a study has found. Checking Facebook made people feel worse about both issues, and the more they browsed, the worse they felt, the University of Michigan research said. The study, which tracked participants for two weeks, adds to a growing body of research saying Facebook can have negative psychological consequences.

The study which tracked participants for two weeks, adds to a growing body of research saying Facebook can have negative psychological consequences. Facebook has more than a billion members and half log in daily. "On the surface, Facebook provides an invaluable resource for fulfilling the basic human need for social connection. Rather than enhancing well-being, however, these findings suggest that Facebook may undermine it," said the researchers. Internet psychologist Graham Jones, a member of the British Psychological Society who was not involved with the study, said: "It confirms what some other studies have found - there is a growing depth of research that suggests Facebook has negative consequences." But he added there was plenty of research showing Facebook had positive effects on its users. Loneliness link In the survey, participants answered questions about how they felt, how worried they were, how lonely they felt at that moment, and how much they had used Facebook since the last survey. They received five text messages each day at random times between 10:00 and midnight, containing links to the surveys. Researchers also wanted to know about how much direct interaction participants had with people - either face-to-face or by phone - between questionnaires. Results showed that the more people used Facebook, the worse they felt afterwards. But it did not show whether people used Facebook more or less depending on how they felt, researchers

The team also found that the more the participants used the site, the more their life satisfaction levels declined. The pattern appeared to contrast with interacting "directly" with people, which seemed to have no effect on well-being. But researchers did find people spent more time on Facebook when they were feeling lonely - and not simply because they were alone at that precise moment. "Would engaging in any solitary activity similarly predict declines in well-being? We suspect that they would not because people often derive pleasure from engaging in some solitary activities (e.g., exercising, reading)," the report said. "Supporting this view, a number of recent studies indicate that people's perceptions of social isolation (i.e. how lonely they feel) are a more powerful determinant of well-being than objective social isolation." Colloquially, this theory is known as FOMO - Fear Of Missing Out -a side effect of seeing friends and family sitting on beaches or having fun at parties while you are on a computer. Learning the rules According to the study, almost all the participants said they used Facebook to stay in touch with friends, but only 23% said they used the social networking site to meet new people. More than three-quarters said they shared good things with their communities on the site, while 36% said they would share bad things on Facebook as well. Mr Jones warned that the study's findings were probably most relevant to people who spent too much time on Facebook, and the study did not offer a full comparison with "direct" social contact. He also said that since Facebook was such a recent phenomenon, society was still learning to use the platform. "As a society as a whole we haven't really learnt the rules that make us work well with Facebook," he said, adding some people became unable to control their experience with it. The researchers said their study was the first to examine the effect Facebook has on its users' well-being over time.

Business / Re: Illegal Third Party Withdrawal From My Account by tomX1(m): 6:03am On Mar 27, 2013
One easy way for someone to use your atm without your consent is through your old smart phone.
Let me illustrate this point using android phones (not that their is anything wrong with android phones).
When you buy an android phone you will have to link it to a gmail account to have access to many of its features including the shopping applications (wether you are shopping for softwares, books, music etc.) Similarly you could easily link your atm card (MASTER or VISA) to the emai account for online purchases and from that point on your o.line purchases through the phone are validated by the gmail account.
Now if you loose your phone or sell/gift your old phone to someone without doing a factory reset and unlinking the phone from you gmail account then the new owner can shop for, say, softwares and you get billed for it.
similarly if your gmail account is compromised via social medias or anyother means and the predator observes you have been shopping online with your smart phone, he ould easily link the same gmail account to a smart phone and bill you for his purchases.

Phones / Re: RIM/BBM What-if-blackberry-messenger-had-gone-cross-platform by tomX1(m): 8:20am On Nov 02, 2012
Bawss1: The drift of your argument is noted, but my question remains unanswered, how does making BBM available on other OSs really help RIM. ....
While at this point I will say its too little too late. But if RIM had made its messenger free for download on other platforms then anyone on any platform will be able to hook up with their bb contacts even if they don't use bb. On the surface this seem like it will be counter productive but no. It work out well on many fronts:
1. The most powerful (at the time) messenger is available for free to all platforms. This givds RIM the glory that whatsapp presently enjoys and other platforms might have a deal with RiM to use BBM for free on their platforms.
2. BB users are not pressured to download third party apps to communicate with non bb users thus the popularity and effectiveness of BBM is not diminished in anyway. It will rather be growing.
3. Consider that Google litteraly owns android but Google apps like maps, goovle talk etc are not restricted to android yet this has not hurt android sales while apple tried to make an exclusive map app for iphone 5 and it stung them.
It simple. If its exclusive it excludes a large part of the pottential market. If its free for all then its the peoples thing and thats where the growth is.

Nobody has thus far provided any IOU to show that the person who raised the alarm is a debtor.
While I honestly sympathise with the victims and their family, we should not act naive out of pity.
1. A group of people going uninvited to a persons abode in the dead of night ranks of malice. The could easily be anything one label them to be.
2. When your abode id invaded by people in the dead of nigth, raising an alarm is a prudent course of action, regardless of who the invaders maybe.
3. In a community where crime is rife and people depend on vigilantes for protection, strolling about in the dead of night is a bold faced invitation for trouble and you'd most likely get it.
We cannot bring back the dead but there are many lessons to be learnt from this unfortunate episode so lets put emotions aside.
If a debt was owed it would have been more prudent to meet the debtor by day or if he is stuborn aproach the vigilantes or community leaders to help with the recovery. The Allu 4 put themselves in a very compromising situation and paid an inordinately heavy price for it.
We all ought to be more aware of the situation sorrounding us so we can act in a more proper manner to forestall such in idences in our lives.

Spent months waiting for all kinds of silly updates that were meant to transform the phone to something more meaningfull. After all the agony Microsoft anounces windows phone8 which has no compatibleility with WP7 which by the way had no compatibility with previous windows phones. Software/Programmer Market / Ibadan Based Company Needs A Freelance Programer. by tomX1(m): 12:19pm On Sep 18, 2012
Hello People,
An Ibadan based company needs a freelance programmer to develop a software critical to their operations.
The skinny of the brief is as follows:
1. It would be a desktop software (windows program) the programing language of choice will be decided by the developer. But the software should be installable and secure.
2. The basic algorithms will be to routinely generate about ten random integers within a range of 1 to 90 inclusive. These integers will be stored persistently thus it will have a database which the users can access (likely read only)
3. It will also have other basic futures like
a. Print out the database or segments of it in a neat format
b. Backup the database periodicaly so that upon reinstallation the old data could be restored
c. Login interface etc.

The specifics of the software and other factors are to be agreed upon by the client and the programmer.

Any intrested person sbould call Kareem on 08161144598
