FoodRe: What Happened To Brahma Guarana by tomX1(m): 8:21pm On Oct 02, 2007
So someone else knows Brahma Guarana. I think it must have been one of those soft drinks sponsored by the Lebanese in the post-Buhari era. During the Buhari era a lot of Lebanese biz closed up and it was about that period that I last remember seing Brahma.

She got a lot of issues or hidden agendas.
The guy should give her a lot of space and actively pursue a more meaningful relationship with someone else.
The girl should on her part come clean or lay-off.

Thanks for the insights ladies. It's good for us guys to have some pointers on how to realy stir up the ladies. Unfortunately most of the stuffs we banter around in guy-guy conversations are a far cry from what the ladies seems to realy want.

ProgrammingRe: Uploading Videos On My Site by tomX1(m): 9:55pm On Oct 01, 2007
To encode videos for your site you may use any proffesional video editing software like Adobe Premier, Pinacle, Ulead, etc. but Windows Movie Maker would do just fine.
1 ) Launch movie maker: Start->Movie maker
2 ) in movie maker do: File->import into collection, ( ctrl + I )
3 ) In the Import File dlg box, browse to ur file and import
4 ) Drag the imported clip(s) to the clipboard
5 ) File->Save movie file, ( ctr+P )
6 ) In the save movie wizard select my computer and click next
7 ) Input a file name and choose a folder in which to store your video(s) and click next
8 ) Choose the show more choice option to see compresion types. then select the "other types" radio button.
9 ) Select any appropriate compression. The clearer choices will give a heavier video and slow loading time.
The more compressed options will give a smaller and less-clear video but with faster loading time.
Try "video for dail-up access (38kbps)". and click on next to export the video.
10) Click on finish and test your video. It should be light but very grainy.

You may experiment with other settings under (9) to get a better blend of download speed/clarity.
good luck.
PropertiesRe: Cost Of Building A House In Nigeria by tomX1(m): 8:55pm On Oct 01, 2007
I think the proper way of determining the cost of such a project is to secure the services of profesionals. This may cost you a little in cosulting fees but could save you a ton of cash and grief on the whole.
Get an Architect to draw up a plan for you.
Decide where you intednd to put up your building and try to get details of the soil structure in that location. This will determine the type of foundation to be put in place.
A builder can easily draw up a bill of quantities (BOQ) based on the architectural drawing if its a flat or bungalow. For a duplex or multistory building, you need a structural engineer to draw up a structural detail for the proposed building. The builder will then draw up a BOQ based on all these.
This will give you a better estimate of the cost of errecting the biulding. To reduce your consuting fee, you may have your structural engineer draw up the BOQ along with his structural plan for a little extra. Most competent structural engineers can do this.
Please avoid relying on non-proffesionals even if they have done it over and over in time past. Their methods are ussualy un-economical since they have to overcompensate for many things "just to be on the safe side". This shots up your expenses. Their is also no gaurantee of the structural soundness of your building since no load analysis was carried out.
The menace of "collapsed building" is real.
RomanceRe: Can You Kiss Your Boyfriend/girlfriend In The Public? by tomX1(m): 7:44pm On Oct 01, 2007
Yes. I do that and I've never realy felt uncomfortable about it and I'm talking about here in Lagos Nigeria. I think it's all about your attitude and stuff. With the right attitude you tend get away with even things that would ordinarily be frowned upon.
RomanceRe: Men: What Do Ya'll Want Us Women To Know! by tomX1(m): 7:22pm On Oct 01, 2007
For me, I realy hate the part where women think we ought to be mind readers

Guy: I realy have to get back to work. lets talk some other time.
Lady: Don't you want to know whats bothering me// I guess ypu don't care.
Guy: I care a lot babe. So what's bothering you.
Lady: (Sighs, Silence, Sighs, More Silence)

Lady: Forget it.
Guy: Ok.
Lady: You are heartless! (Storms out).

please give me a clue ladies. what was that all about?
RomanceRe: Do Perfect Relationships Exist? by tomX1(m): 4:46pm On Oct 01, 2007
as far as we don`t have perfect human beings, there can`t be a perfect relationship. any one that tells you that he/she has a perfect marriage is not telling the truth.
Well no one is perfect but you can find someone who is perfect for you. In the same vein you can be perfect for some one. Perfect love does exist and it might take some work but it's workable.
RomanceLadies, What Realy Rings Your Bell? by tomX1(op): 12:25am On Sep 30, 2007
One thing is certain, if guys understood more of what women realy want in bed, sex would be a much more rewarding pursuit for everyone. Some women love to have their neck kissed. Some simple adore getting a lot of attention around the breast rigion. Others, well, some like their goes to go down south once in a while.
My question is: Ladies, what realy rings your bell?

MySql is suppused to install automaticaly along with wamp5. It did in my case. You try uninstalling and re-installing. Else get a version of it from Otigba at #150.00 only (if you reside in Lagos that is).

Nothing beats eating with your hands. But if you are on luch break and have to go back to work and interact with clients u might rather go with cutlery. You know, just to avoid any after smell when you shake hands or something.
FoodRe: A New Name For Moi Moi Please: by tomX1(m): 4:43pm On Sep 19, 2007
In English you may refer to it as "Bean Pudding". The name is local yes, but it's proudly Nigerian. We should celebrate our dishes with their local names. The Japanese will not call "Sushi" by any other name. The "Borito" is popular all over US and it is definitely not English. So don't feel ashamed to call our dishes by their Nigerian names. Represent with Pride!!!
FoodRe: How To Preserve My Ground Melon (Egusi) And Locust Beans (Iru)? by tomX1(m): 4:34pm On Sep 19, 2007
During my student days I used to preserve my grounded melon for weeks. How? Well just make sure that the mellon you choose for grinding is on the dry side. If you shell the seeds and bend any it should easily snap in two before it bends up to a 30 degree angle.
Grind the melon and wrap it loosely in a polyethene bag and store in air tigth plastic container to avoid excess moisture going in, and to avoid other contaminants. When you use, let a little air circulate through before you cover it up. Do not stor for more than two weeks (the taste tends to change if left too long).

I don't have a clue how to preserve Iru.
CultureRe: Change Of Tribe by tomX1(m): 12:17pm On Sep 19, 2007
Jayon your desires are in order so don't let any one tell you differently.
The way to go about it is this:
1. You need to go back to your village and and get a keg of palmwine from the oldest tapable tree in the village
2. You also need to trace out the oldest grave in the village.
3. Take of your clothes and tie a white piece of cloth around your neck.
4. Stand on the grave and with a loud voice renounce your membership of your tribe.
5. Proceed by taking a cleasing bath with the palm wine.
7. Lie on your left side on the grave, with your right hand scoop a handfull of dirt off the grave and rub on your head.
8. Point the index finger of your right hand to the sky and begin to chant the name of the new tribe you wish to belong to.
Continue step (cool for three days and three nights. It works like magic. No paperwork needed.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Made In China: Aaaaaaarrrrgghhhhhhh! by tomX1(op): 6:18am On Sep 18, 2007
Recently Dell had to make a massive recall of sub-standard batteries made for their laptops. There was once a similar recall by sony made for defective camcoders produced by their company. Many big companies around the world do this. These firms have integrity and do not rely on some stringent quality controll being in place in the countries to which they market their goods. Rather they implememnt their own quality control which will most certainly pass the requirement of any country. Is there no Chinese word for integrity or does the word give them stomach upset?
I've not yet heard of any one approaching US, UK or European firms to make substandard goods for their country. These firms will most likely not because even if the goods were to pass inspections in the destination country, the repercussions for them at home could be stringent.
A few years ago Nike almost lost its operations in Europe because it was accused of running factories in Indonesia where work conditions for their workers bordered on slave labour.
These Chinkos had better step up or vacate our shores.
huhThey better not try to paint their skin with shoe polish , etc.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Made In China: Aaaaaaarrrrgghhhhhhh! by tomX1(op): 9:57pm On Sep 15, 2007
Ma brother,
its what we experience almost everyday especially we in the IT having to buy accessories always. The problem is not the Chinese but Nigerians.
(1.)Nigerians go to China companies and tell them to make these substandard products and import them. You can't get these fake things in China
(2.)when they are Imported the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) does not check these things or maybe they do and these so called importers settle them to allow the products pass in the market.
The problem is the Government there are no strict policies to check these anomalies and when the policies are there the enforcers look at what they will gain only. Its only God that can really save Us.
China Products will always be around and are in every area of our daily lives clothes,phones,e.t.c even food.
Its realy sad that Nigerians will do this to each other. I have personaly spent so much of my hard earned money trying to procure equipments that will make life and biz better for me but often times it's just money down the drain.
I think a day of reckoning will come though.

Nairaland GeneralMade In China: Aaaaaaarrrrgghhhhhhh! by tomX1(op): 11:27pm On Sep 12, 2007
There is a worisome trend in the Nigerian market, especialy in the IT sector. I'm talking about the influx of substandard made in chinese goods. They are everywhere and it's frustrating.
I needed to replace my Dell Laptop batery recently and paid #15K for a replacement only to discover latter at home that the charge indicator at the bottom is a stick-on. The battery meter in my laptop also seems to have gone mad. One second it shows 4:16 hours remaining 92% charge and the next it shows 1:56 hours remaining 96% charge. YES it is made in china.
I recently subscribed to Multi Links for browsing facilities, 10/10 of the DKU-5 cable that I tested from their store room were all faulty (made in china) I proceeded to computer vilage to get same and the story was the same in all stores I tried but I. The one that worked wasn't Made. In China.
Lets not begin to mention other products like flash drives, printer inks, signal cables etc.
Will someone find a remedy for this crazy chinese dragon ravaging our market?
WebmastersRe: A Tale Of Two Websites by tomX1(m): 11:07pm On Sep 12, 2007
There is a possibility that the client might have tried to short change the former webmaster at some point leading to him/her going AWOL. This happens sometimes and instead of the client to come to the round table the client might prefer to start all over again. Funny as it may sound this happens a lot in the industry. The customer is not always right. Some of them need very close marking.
TV/MoviesRe: 80% Of Nollywood Films Are Wack by tomX1(m): 10:44pm On Sep 12, 2007
Yes, Nollywood films are messed up. But lets be realistic. Alot go into making good movies (even the simplest looking ones). It's all about details and I mean detailed scripts, cutting edge directing, well sculpted and properly detailed sets, custumes (even varieties of custumes to reflect diferrent scenerios - like having a copies of a particular shirt for the everyday scenes, anothe copy for the post action scene where the shirt is all stained and messed up, etc). The the killer - EDITING.
You need experts who are well trained to handle all the chores. and these chores take a lot of TIME and commitment. Since time equals money and most Nigerian movies are extremely low budget, there is only so much time any one can give to the chores they have to do on set. If you get peanuts as wages, you tend to deliver like an ape.
Budget is the bane of Nigerian movies. Americans spend over $100M and sometimes years to make block busters, How many nigeria movies have ever had 1/20th of such a budget?
TV/MoviesRe: TV Shows: Prison Break, Lost Or 24? by tomX1(m): 3:31am On Sep 08, 2007
Lost is a lot spiceier. It has a lot of "something for every one. The ending is however too lousy. There were too many loose ends that were not tied and that didn't make for a proffesional finish in keeping with the program. The ending was also too "Jack-centric".

Prison break has the same addictive qualities as Lost. It's simply off the chart but it's still on going, so the ending will too a large extent determine the overall rating.

24? well in my personal opinion, it was not as rivetting as prison break and Lost but it has some wonderful qualities. It's just not my gig.

So my money is on Lost ad Prison break
