How Obasanjo saved Imoke from EFCC net

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had, last week, set in motion, machinery to arrest former Cross River State governor, Liyel Imoke, immediately after the Appeal Tribunal nullified his election, but the information leaked out to him.

Following this development, it was gathered, the former governor immediately contacted former President Olusegun Obasanjo about the moves by the anti-graft body to arrest him.

Events was said to have turned around for Imoke as Obasanjo immediately contacted President Umaru Yar’Adua on the moves to arrest the former governor by the anti-graft body.

President Yar’Adua, it was learnt, immediately directed one of his aides to get the chairman of the EFCC, Mrs. Farida Waziri, on the telephone and directed her to put on hold, the arrest till further notice.

Following the directive, the chairman communicated same to the operatives of the commission.

Former Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River escaped arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by the whiskers, courtesy of the timely intervention of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

LEADERSHIP learnt that EFCC operatives had invaded Imoke's No. 27, Suleiman Barau Street, bent on arresting the embattled former governor, who has been implicated in the ongoing power probe.

Eyewitness at the house located on Aso Drive in Abuja, who confided in LEADERSHIP, said that the "whole house was surrounded by men of the commission who wanted to gain entrance to the residence where Imoke was holed up."

Garba Ladan, a gardener, saw it all. He told our reporters, "At about Afternoon, the whole of this area was filled with security men. They were around Imoke's house. I think he has done something bad because they wanted to break into the house."

But unknown to them the ousted governor was inside his bedroom making frantic calls to Obasanjo.

According to sources close to Imoke, "As soon as he learnt that the EFCC men were at his gate, he panicked and began to make calls.

He called Obasanjo. Obasanjo in turn called Yar'Adua, and a deal was sealed. Obasanjo commanded Yar'Adua to call off the invasion. The President promptly complied."

Yar'Adua, who was an under intense pressure to please his benefactor was said to have called the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Michael Aondoakaa.

It was a peeved Aondoakaa who querulously called Mrs Farida Waziri, the EFCC boss, to call off the operation. Her wish was carried out within minutes. The operators, almost apologising to Imoke, left the house and headed back to office.

A delighted Imoke was said to have thrown a party in his house where minions came to rejoice over the "triumph" of their boss over the EFCC. The next day, Imoke left for Calabar to a heroic welcome.

Earlier on Tuesday, Imoke had met with President Yar'Adua at the Presidential Villa to fine-tune strategies to escape justice.

He came out of the meeting to tell press men that he had no fear of arrest.

Imoke is in the centre of an indictment by the House of Representatives committee probing of the power sector. A preliminary report is said to have said that Imoke was deeply mired in the financial ill-dealings that defines the sad situation of energy in Nigeria.

Imoke, a close confidant of Obasanjo, continues to enjoy protection by the former President because of "what he knows about the rough deals by Obasanjo", said a source who craved anonymity.

What deepzone fails to realize is that the US environment makes it really difficult to instill the values and discipline
yorubas (and even others) are noted for.

When you are raising a kid in an environment where most kids talk back to adults and are very unruly because they know you
can't touch them, chances are your kids are likely to follow suit regardless the culture/value/discipline of the kids'
native parents. So, we should leave yoruba out of this abeg.

How are we so sure it's just a constitutional error. Reports aren't always the most accurate measure of truth. na so them go take style chop money.

It is a constitutional error because the federal govt cannot award contracts on the local governments' behalf.

The federal govt cannot award a contract and then start deducting local govt's funds to pay for it. If the
federal govt awards a contract, it has to fund it itself.

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has accused former Plateau State Governor, Chief Michael Botmang of stealing N1.5billion of the state money within five months, while in office.

Botmang who was the Deputy Governor to the former Governor Joshua Dariye became the acting governor following the impeachment of Dariye in December 2006.

The commission subsequently arraigned him on Friday before a Federal High Court in Abuja, with Justice Anuri Chikere, putting him on house restriction because of his failing health.

He was driven into the court premises in a Peugeot Expert with Nasarawa State registration number AA 698 NBB at about 9: 42 am.

The 31-count charge against him for misappropriation of funds to the tune of N1.5 billion belonging to the Plateau State government when the accused was the acting governor of the state, was read to him, but he pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Counsel to the accused, M.Y. Saleh (SAN), after the charges were read, tendered oral application for bail because of what he described as “exceptional circumstances” resulting from the failing health of the accused.

He told the court that the accused was diagnosed of five ailment-diabetes, hypertension, gont, chronic kidney problem and has been placed on dialysis twice a week.

EFCC’s counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, however, did not object to the bail application, saying they were aware of his health condition.

But the judge, Justice Anuri, however, insisted that the right procedure be followed, saying, “I don’t grant bail on oral application.”

Because of the health condition of the accused, the court in its wisdom, confined him to his house at Zawan Village , Jos South Local Government Council, Plateau State.

Please i need your opinion

I met a man that loves me and i feel the same way too. He impregnated me and now i have a beautiful daughter. But he is not here with me. All through my pregnancy he was not here though it wasn't by choice his visa didn't go through. We speak everyday though and we had an introduction which i didn't attend because of the distance and because i couldn't travel due to the fact that i was heavy.

Am going to be 23 very soon and i love being a mother and all but i am scared about a lot of things. Will it work out, Will i go back to my old ways which is partying and being out there all the time, in short i wonder if me being good will pay off in the long run. And is it okay for me to still want to look hot like wearing nice shorts or minis and looking sexy sha.

Just advice me please!

Please don't be scared. All would be well with you in the name of Jesus.

Let me try and weigh in on your situation.

1. Now that you are a mother, there is definitely going to be some change in how you dress and generally carry yourself. Like someone
else has mentioned, you are now a role model to your daughter and would need to act as such.

You have to make your best judgment as to what constitutes classy and not trashy. As women, we should all look sexy, beautiful
and decent; I don't subscribe to those that believe that a mother or wife should be overly conservative in her dressing.

Take a look around mothers that you know and say to yourself: I would like to dress like that OR No, that is way too trashy for me.

Eventually, you'll have to decide what style of dressing best suits you.

But I want you to remember this, the way you dress should reflect (at least to some degree) that you are now a mother. How you
want to interpret this is totally up to you.

2. You are going to need the support of your daughter's father. Your daughter needs to have her father in her life both emotionally and
from a financial stand point. If the two of you really love each other, then you should consider tying the knot and having your own family.

3. Both you and your baby's father need to have stable careers in order to raise this child. I don't know how far you (& your baby's dad)
went as far as your education, but you have to get this issue resolved as quickly as possible.

4. Finally, there is no doubt that the absence of your baby's dad is a big chunk of the reasons for you being scared. His presence would
be more assuring; at least he could be supporting you emotionally and stuff.

Is the guy educated ? Does he have a good head on his shoulder ? Would he make a good father/husband ? Perhaps you could
have someone back home keep an eye out on him.

If indeed he is a good and worthy fellow, then you should consider tying the knot and you guys should have your own family
in Canada. God bless.

I agree with sistawoman; I think the guys were passing out their numbers because they have a low opinion of some AA women.

Many of the men are possibly under the impression that Nalijah is just having fun with the Nigerian dude; it's just a fling, not

This appointment simply confirmed that Yar A'dull is a follower and not a LEADER.

His IGP and AGF essentially convinced him Yar A'dull by their crooked means to remove RIBADU becase they feared that he might come after them or their protege. If we can all recall that Mike Aoodoka, the AGF is the former attorney for IBORI so you now know whose brief he is still holding.

Also i am not sure the senate knows what they are doing either. RIBADU has not been formally removed with any of the reasons within the provision of the constititution. That say's much for our President yar A'dull and his rule of law due process nonesense. he can't even follow simply due process of the constitution.

Most importantly, why sending the guy to school under pretence. Is it that they are trying to get rid of him as we all susupected all along.

Ribadu's wrong doing was having the audacity to go after James Ibori, who bankrolled Yar'Adull's presidential
campaign. Ribadu also had the audacity to interrogate IBB's son regarding Globacom's shares. When you are
on Ibori and IBB's bad side, you are automatically on Yar'Adull's bad side.
