The arrest of Nollywood comic actor, Babatunde Omidina over hard drug is the latest gist in town at the moment. The widower who was arrested on his way to Paris a fortnight ago, we scooped, has excreted over 16 pellets of cocaine last night. A source in the anti-drug agency said that the controversial drug peddler cum Yoruba actor has already excreted some of the drugs he ingested while a large quantity is still lodged in his abdomen. Another reliable source said the suspect has been given a cup of tea to drink that will enable him excrete the remaining drugs while he has been placed on observation. If you recall, this same offence was committed by Baba Suwe about two years now but he had his way out of the situation and called it 'mere rumour' but it's so obvious now that what he tagged as rumour then is now a reality. Baba Suwe, we learnt, has been crying like a baby and pleading for forgiveness but all his pleas are to no avail. While serious investigation is going on to know how he came about it, some top marketers are alleged to be busy inducing officials of NDLEA with huge bribe to get him out of the dragnet. We gathered. We shall keep you posted as event unfolds. http://www.modernghana.com/movie/14949/3/breaking-news-baba-suwe-excretes-16-pellets-of-coc.html |

The celebrated reports surrounding the arrest and detention of spectacular Nollywood actor, Alhaji Babatunde Omidina, aka, Baba Suwe for alleged ingestion of cocaine may have taken a new twist following the denial by personnel of the National Drugs Law The anti-narcotics agency has instead turned its whip on the media for allegedly over blowing the whistle on the Yoruba actor’s arrest at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos while on his way to Paris, saying that the story has put the agency in bad light. NDLEA after detaining and causing untold embarrassment to Baba Suwe, leading to the filing of N1 billion suit against it, has described the actor as “a complete gentle man”. “We have never said Baba Suwe was arrested for drug, it is the media that are writing this, we never said he was arrested for drug.” According to the NDLEA Public Relations Officer, Mitchel Ofoyeju, “Baba Suwe is a complete gentle man who is doing everything within his purview to assist the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA's) investigation into whether he concealed drug in his body while attempting to travel out of Nigeria last week.” Ofoyeju explained that the comedian has been cooperating with the agency and was in good and healthy condition while the agency continued to detain him pending the final investigations into his case. The agency spokesman however refused to comment on reports that the suspect had excreted three times without trace of hard drugs, an indication of his innocence until proven otherwise by a competent law court. "We have never told anybody that he carried drugs in his body. Baba Suwe is under observation just like it has been the case with every other suspected Nigerian passengers, the law is no respecter of anybody, we don't want to speculate about anything and we will make a comprehensive press conference on the case after we conclude our investigation. We are still investigating the case; we'll address the press as soon as we conclude our investigation on the matter. We are not going to say anything until we conclude our investigations. Like I said before, we have never said Baba Suwe was arrested for drug, it is the media that are writing this, we never said he was arrested for drug.” “He is not hostile to us. He answers our questions properly without arrogance. He takes the food he is given all the time and he has not attempted to go on hunger strike. Since he came here, he has not tried to force us to release him.” Contrary to claims that the actor is diabetic and hypertensive, ofoyeju simply said “Baba Suwe is hale and hearty and is very understanding.” |

Unidentified persons supected be assassins on Friday night allegedly invaded the residence of one of the supervising councilors in the Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area, Ondo State. Our correspondent learnt that the target, Mr. Segun Olasupo, who is the supervisory councillor for culture and tourism in the council, escaped by scaling the fence of his house. Olasupo, who was injured in the process, told journalists on Sunday at hospital in Ondo town, where he was receiving treatment, that he had just returned from a meeting when the incident happened. He said, “Before the attack took place, I had gone to a meeting of the Labour Party at Okeigbo town on the same Friday, which ended in a deadlock. “No sooner had I arrived in my house at Okesa area in Okeigbo town and was about to eat with my wife at about 11.30pm than I heard gunshots. “There was tension all over and some people, whom I could not recognise their voices, called me from outside. “I ran out of the house and escaped through the back of the house by sealing the fence. As a result I broke my leg and arm in the process. His wife, Omolara, who injured her two legs while trying to escape, claimed that the hoodlums said they had been paid N5m by a politician in the area to kill her husband. Omolara said she also sustained an injury from a stray bullet fired through one of the windows in the house. She explained that the alleged assassins later left the house after searching fruitlessly for her husband who had escaped. Personal belongings of the politicians including an official car with number Plate LG 37 LEL, attached to his office, were badly damaged. The Okeigbo Divisional Police Officer, Mr. Okogun Godwin, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident. |
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has said that the ace actor and comedian, Babatunde Omidina (aka Baba Suwe), being detained for investigation by it, will be made to undergo due investigative process as he excreted the second time without drugs. It also called on members of the public to exercise patience pending the outcome of investigation activities, just as the agency urged stakeholders to make necessary sacrifices for the collective interest of all law abiding citizens and for the sake of national security. A press statement signed by the spokesman of the anti-drugs agency, Mitchel Ofoyeju, a copy of which was obtained by the Nigerian Tribune on Saturday, said the comedian had, on Saturday evening, made another excretion and that no drug was found. He will be under observation. The actor who was to board an Air France flight to Paris at about 10.00p.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos was said to have tested positive to drug ingestion thus leading to his arrest and investigation" the statement said. Also, the NDLEA airport commander, Alhaji Hamza Umar, said the actor was still being monitored in safe custody. According to Hamza, “it is important to follow due process. Members of the public should be patient. There is reasonable ground for suspicion and it is crucial to allow due process take its course. He is fine and has gone for the first and second excretion but no drug has been found on him thus far. It is just the normal process for all passengers.” |
Residents in Port Harcourt have called on security agencies to be on alert of suspected ritualists who go about hunting for men human organs especially in this festive season. This followed an incident where a final year student of the University of Port Harcourt male organ was allegedly taken by a suspected ritualist. It was a revitalized Catherine Obiang , the estranged wife of popular host of TV game show, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Frank Edoho that stepped out last weekend at a concert in Lagos. Before this time, the ex-NTA/ Classic FM presenter had maintained a low profile, following her messy and much publicised separation from her hubby, which hit the media in March. Looking elegant in her trademark crew-cut and donning a jean with an armless top, the TV gal of Cameroon descent has brushed aside the sad ordeal of her marriage break up to hit the social circuit at full throttle. Catherine Edoho was among the celebrities that stormed the imposing New Expo Hall of the Eko Hotel and Suites, last weekend for rapper, Ice Prince’s album launch/concert tagged: E.L.I (Everybody Loves Ice Prince). Although, she tried to evade the prying eyes of paparazzi, the mother of three, who was in the company of a female friend, thoroughly enjoyed herself to the hilt. She also rocked and grooved to music of top hip hop artistes on parade at the show including, Tuface Idibia, M.I and Wizkid among others. What began as a celebrated union between the two highflying TV personalities finally packed up for good early this year after reports of abuse and domestic violence. This was the climax of the relationship which first began to show some cracks four years ago. In reality, the couple have been separated for a year and had only been struggling to make things work. In their first public outburst in 2007, Catherine had gone to the press to describe her hubby as a “beast” who beats her silly at the slightest provocation after fleeing her matrimonial home for that of her family in Yaoundé, the capital of Cameroun. However with his tails between his legs, Frank Edoho who is also a highly sought after compere and voice over artiste put aside his ego and went to beg his wife. Less than three years after their reunion, the couple again fell apart and this time there is certainly no chance of reunion as both individuals have been linked to new romances after the painful and shocking split. With a tone of resignation, Frank Edoho in July went on twitter, the popular social networking site and posted thus: “Hey people, I just want you to know that I would never do anything to hurt my family. But sadly, I am separated from my wife and it’s irreconcilable. We’ve been separated for over a year now and I want to say Kathy is a great mum and a good person. But it wasn’t working. When I talk about what really went down, jaws will drop and then you will learn that if you want to get hitched, make sure it’s your soul mate please. I was trying to give it a last-ditch effort by recapping good times but to no avail….No more ball-and-chain for me. I’ve had it. I’m out.”

THE Senate, on Thursday, declared the post-Unified Tertiary University Matriculation Examinations (UTME) illegal, following the adoption of a motion brought to the floor by Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, (PDP, Bayelsa State). Adopting the motion which was co-sponsored by 35 other senators, including Senators Smart Adeyemi, Ayogu Eze, Zainab Kure, Chris Anyanwu and Dahiru Awaisu-Kuta, the Senate further directed its Committee on Education to comprehensively investigate activities of the universities that have been conducting the post-UTME. But senators were initially divided on the matter, with some supporting the view that the conduct of post-UTME was illegal by usurping the powers of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB), while some others sought to justify the post-UTME examinations. The Senate session, which was presided over by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, however, resolved that the conduct of the post-UTME examiniations was “illegal, unconstitutional and wicked.” In his lead debate on the motion, Senator Lokpobiri, who chairs the Senate Committee on Water Resources, said that JAMB had been statutorily empowered to conduct matriculation examinations into universities and tertiary institutions and that it was also empowered to appoint examiners, moderators, invigilators, members of the subject panel and committees in respect of the examinations. The senator stated that the conduct of post-UTME examinations meant that universities have usurped the powers of JAMB. The senator submitted two newspaper publications wherein the Registrar of JAMB, Professor Dibu Ojerinde, openly complained about the conduct of post-UTME. Senators who backed the scrapping of the post-UTME included Senators Emmanuel Paulker, Datti Baba-Ahmed, Nenadi Usman, Ayogu Eze, Nkechi Nworgu, Ahmed Lawan, Abdul Ningi and Abubakar Atiku Bagudu. Senator Eze argued that the conduct of post-UTME was a huge rip-off on the people of Nigeria, adding that the law does not envisage the conduct of post-UTME. Former Minister of Finance, Senator Nenadi Usman, told her colleagues that notwithstanding whatever intentions, whatever is illegal is illegal, adding that “every coin has two sides. If JAMB is faulty, then, the law setting up JAMB should be rectified.” Chairman, Senate Committee on Public Accounts, Senator Ahmed Lawan said that the senators were the ones who represent the people and know where the shoe pinches them. He said: “The examination is extortionist, illegal and wicked. Monies collected from post-UTME is clearly illegal, since there’s no law backing it up.” Senator Aisha Al-Hassan, however, disagreed with her colleagues, saying that the conduct of the post-UTME was aimed at entrenching quality education. She said: “We should be saying thank you to the universities for the post-UTME. They are out to give qualitative education to our children. People condemn when it suits them and tend to condone when it suits them. “It’s common knowledge that JAMB has failed. I, therefore, oppose in total, the scrapping of post-UTME.” The Senate, however, resolved that the Education Committee should investigate the conduct of post-UTME since there are no laws backing it. |

The man of God predicted that we won't qualify for Nations Cup, and we didn't. Some people are blaming him. Pastor T.B Joshua is having none of that. He tells encomium magazine: Nobody can claim to love Nigeria more than I do. I only tell people what God revealed to me. I can't control it. During the ministrations two Sundays ago which was televised live, I said God revealed the outcome of the encounter to me which was not favourable to Nigeria. They should check my track record. All my predictions on Nigerian football have been accurate simply because I love football and I always pray about it before the match http://www.talkofnaija.com/News/newsdetailsone.aspx?NewsId=15AE909B-5F65-40C5-8DCC-93F1B2E25D0A |
