authority2006:You're right. That's why anytime they are saying they want to increase tariff, I say no problem but it should be implemented after giving me a prepaid meter. If everyone is one prepaid meter, there will be energy efficiency. You won't put on appliances you are not using as you know the more power you consume the more your recharge card runs out. There are several appliances with watts as high as 2000w, 2500w and bulbs of 200w or higher that people use today that will be abandon if they are using prepaid meter. There are energy saving appliances now available that will reduce consumer's power consumption thereby making power available to others not having it. |
futurism:That's what I'm saying, its really easy to get the prepaid meters from manufacturers outside the country, but phcn will frustrate the effort by not integrating it to the system. They will be giving you some grammar about its quality, uniformity, that it won't read well etc they will just be bringing such excuses to maintain the status quo. |
futurism:Yes. It is possible to get prepaid meters from private sources, even from prepaid manufacturers outside the country, but PHCN will still frustrate you by not integrating it into the system. That's why I wonder if Fasola is not benefiting from this scam. |
Solstar:Its true sha, I've already been researching ways to manufacture solar cells, most of the data I've been seeing is about coupling existing solar cells that by the way has to be imported too. I so much like the idea of making the panels affordable. |
Solstar:Building a solar panel manufacturing plant in Nigeria would have been really relevant as part of reasons its still expensive is the shipping cost from countries like China ,Germany USA etc. It would have made solar panels readily available and cheap and every home is a potential customer. |
positivethought:Also, with the EVM printing out receipts with the name of the party voted for, it will be easy for those that will want to give money for vote. It will just be, let me see your receipt with my party name and collect 2k. |
olumose001:Guys listen to these lagbaja songs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01zvnAivCbU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CgAF0v16II https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8EolazFUvs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KT-no9wXGHQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9U7aikWNKMU |
onyxo76:But wait o, why is there no single solar panel manufacturer in Nigeria? This is the main reason the panels are expensive because of the cost of shipping them down to Nigeria |
With all these increments, I hope the minimum wage will accommodate all these expences; Rent Electricity Water Gas Security Tax Area Development Levies Internet Cable Food Clothing Children School fee etc |
She should report all these incidences to the dean/hod, call for her papers to be remarked -this will involve the management. SUG and student's affairs may also be of help. |
These are all tall order promises and the clamour for new breed of polititians is not to come and follow the old track of bogus promises while not addressing the major challenges facing the country. Number one problem that is trotting the life out of Nigeria's potential is the adulterated and skewed system of government we run in Nigeria that has no correlation with any type of democracy run in any of the developed countries. Our polititians in Nigeria are not accountable to anyone whether their ward, constituents or citizens. For instance, due to the faulty system of government we have, most local governments exist to share monthly proceeds accorded to them rather than use the funds for infrastructures that will better the life of its citizens. So the system first needs to be redesigned where every citizen is important to the development of their locality, culture, religion etc. In a country like USA where states like Texas, California etc are as big as the whole of Nigeria, they only have a governor and three senators, but in their local governments/municipals/regions, their is no agency and parastatals that don't exist at the local level, be it police where you have shefiff's dept whose jurisdiction covers local areas and districts while state police dept like NYPD, LAPD etc covers the whole state. While federal law enforcement like FBI, Homeland, ATF etc have jurisdiction over the country where such needs arise. Another problem is the salaries and allowances of the citizens and workers in the country. The public servants from the councillor to the governor at state level, ministers to Mr president at federal level, the legislatures etc seems to have it large as their take home packages does not corelate with other workers under the labour like the civil servants and private sector. There should be a comprehensive salary structure by the salary regulatry body and controlled by the ministry of labour, where there will be a template to be followed. A president does not have to earn more than 5times a professor, federal judges, federal legislatures should be on per and not earn more 2-3 times a prof. Better still case studies of salary structure of developed nations with older "real democary", can be carried out and adopted. The ministry of labour should be able to protect the interest of its citizens/labourers. Any company or establishment maltreating, underpaying abusing etc its staffs should be appropriately dealt with. There should be proper identification of ALL citizens of the country. Anyone that cannot be identified cannot vote or do business or enjoy amenities that will be available to citizens only. The idea of over bloated population number of any area and ward will not arise. The identity card of any citizen will have his/her voter's ID number, BVN and other necessary records incorporated within. The more you can identity anyone residing anywhere, the more secure that area will be and it will make the work of security outfits simpler. Another problem is our currency, the highest denomination should not be higher than N100 and the highest transaction with cash should not be higher than N5000 and AT MOST N10000. This will help curb many corruption and crimes being perpetrated as transactions of citizens and foreigners can be easily tracked by investigatory bodies where there are petitions and accusations of financial crimes. Suspicious monies beyond the means of any individual can be traced and stolen money can't be spent or laundered easily. Imaging someone that robs an amount of 5million or more or ritualists, and u can't spend more than N5000 cash at a time and that will be after much begging as there will be extra charges for anyone doing business with cash. This policy alone can stop 70% of corruption in its track before its being carried out. These are the type of manifestos we need from new breeds of polititians we want. Manifestos must be innovative and tell us how you want to do things differently from the old ways of making bogus promises with no detailed explanation on how to tackle challenges that has made it difficult for past governments. |
Daviddson:I agree with you because there is no help that will resolve security challenges if we are not ready ourselves. How will there be unabated carnage meted out to citizens and there is no response from security outfits, the DPOs and other security head tasked with such duties still be in office? |
chukxie:We have been working and pumping money to revive a rail network of less 4000km since 1999 till date with no success.... I do wonder if we are cursed sometimes cos why are we so different in our way of thinking than those in these advanced part of the world. |
Every aspect and organs of our country is just warped. I saw a design of a restaurant made in Canada recently and what interests me there is that the construction drawing is more than 150 pages with up to 7 different firms of profession listed on the cover page, with each category of the drawing having detailed specifications of what should be used, installed, the number of users (staffs, custormers, etc)expected to use each of the provided facilities. The professional bodies are supposed to take the lead role for the standard of constructions in the country. The town planning authority that should consist of professionals like town/urban planner, architect, civil engineer, structural engineer, mechanical engineer, electrical engineer, estate valuer etc should exist at different levels of government, to ensure that a minimum acceptable standard is met before giving approval and go ahead for any kind of project. Its not suppose to be a politician waking up and start a project/construction with no proper environmental impact assessment and necessary approvals gotten from the relevant bodies. I think the country will fare better, if professional bodies can sit up to their responsibilities, and come up with necessary acts and policies that will protect the citizens of the country from quackery and avoidable loss of lives. |
donstan18:Hmmm...haters!

gurunlocker:This is very true. I have Internet signal on my verandah, placing my phone on a particular blade of window in my room. |
All these problems of mega slums and lack of proper master planning and approval process we have in Nigeria are caused by weak ""Urban and town planning commision". The town planning commission should be the go to for proper environmental analysis and approval for any development, even if such development is to be carried out by politicians (FG, State govt, local govt, etc). It is sad that reverse is the case as the body that has this responsibility and are supposed to be consulted are reduced to civil servants paid by those that are supposed to consult them. |

They should be talking of taking 200, 500 and 1000 notes out of circulation... any transaction that is more than 5000 should be done cashless. |

This government is just incapable of making any real difference in the problems facing Nigeria. There approach and stance is even worse than the past govts...Low crude oil price is already crippling the economy yet there are no real attempts in diversifying, militancy is fast becoming a nightmare with government's response to be military crackdown... this has been done with little or no result, even the idea of amnesty payments and programs should have been a short term solution, the approach should be to give this communities and regions reasons to guard this resources and even stake their investment on it to make it a success...I guess this still leads us back to state/region resource control. ![]() |
repogirl:I agree |
igwegeorgiano:The first step in redefining a nation's existence is the national conference pmb is calling a waste of time and money... ![]() |
