PoliticsRe: PDP Wins More Seats In Kaduna State Assembly by tosinet(m): 5:25am On Mar 15, 2019
agabusta:
It is always good to have a number of opposition in any state House of Assembly. I dont know why we put more attention on the Federal govt than state. If we devote more attention similar to that on the FGN to the local and state government, we would be able to extract better performance from them.

Btw any info on Kano House of Assembly?
This is why I believe we should press for change in the system of government we have that does not need brilliance and excellence to run... anybody can sit on allocations even touts and say they are governing...

The more efficient our local government is the better for the citizenry as it is the local government that has the closest link to the people.... so at the local government level... security, healthcare, transportation management, waste management, fire services, agriculture, education/certification etc. should all be superb. In an ideal system, the larger share of state income should be utilized at the local government level.
EducationRe: College Of Education Should Be Scrapped. by tosinet(m): 6:21pm On Mar 06, 2019
germanized:
Well, most of them are already working in collaboration with universities to run degree programmes. Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education is a typical example, they run degree programs in collabo with Ekiti State University.

The error is in education planning in Nigeria. OND and HND combined takes just 2 years in the UK, in Nigeria, it's 5 years plus NYSC making 6 years. After graduation, discrimination everywhere.

Left to me, I'd say OND and HND combined should not be more than 3 years, while NCE should not be more than 2 years. That way, people will still find it easy to utilize their lives well and not waste their youth on tertiary education till they're 40 years.

The ministry of education is filled with clueless and unexposed individuals. Our education sector needs serious reforms.

They could be upgraded to award degrees, but to scrap them would be a collosal waste.

My advice for any young person is to "ja pa" when you hear NCE or HND. The discrimination is wicked.
A possible solution may be for technical schools to produce artisans, technicians while polytechnic should produce technologists... course duration should not be more than 2-3 years.

WhoRUDeceiving:
Of course he is not interested and really PDP is not interested either. There was no debate or choice on their end to bring about the nominee.
But truth be told, people in the Nigg area are jokers. 16 years PDP failed, and a staunch member of that failure is again been recycled to come and lead....

And APC, well they are ANPP/CNPP/APC/PDP and other nonsense groups that regroup in the hope that a coupist can be president since 2003....

What a place
It is sad really...

PoliticsRe: Only Lagos Can Afford N30,000 Minimum Wage — Govs by tosinet(m): 6:10am On Nov 15, 2018
kjhova:
There is a simple solution I have always preferred for this crisis with minimum wage.

The RMAFC should be empowered to structure pay for all public servants up to the president as a function of the National Minimum Wage i.e. say minimum wage is "X" then all public servants salaries will be scaled as multiples of X such that maybe Congressman's salary is AX, senator BX, VP is CX and the president is DX where A, B, C etc are positive integers. This should also be the basis for all allowances and any other payments due to the office.

In this way, no public servants emoluments can be increased without recourse to minimum wage.

Not that this matters though as the public office holders will typically help themselves with corrupt practices.
That’s how it is in sane societies but in Nigeria where states and local governments are still under the colonization of some power blocs where there agents and officers are ruling the colonies we call state and local government.
That is why at the end of the day the masses are slaves in their own country with no voice, there’s no accountability or fear of any repercussion for impunity. It’s all a game as regardless of the party they are, there are some basic common grounds they agree on regardless of party affiliations.

Only the citizens suffer in this setup.

Good project but why can't Nigerian architects, Nigerian engineers and a Nigerian Construction company handle this project? Is it that there are none good enough or experienced enough to handle this project, or just that it's generally accepted that only foreigners can do such in third-world countries?

Mental slavery.
Even if they want to construct local government roads they’ll still go for foreigners. And the way the older generation cow to and and run after the oyinbos even if na illiterate is sickening. cry

This is the new shift in the world. Nigeria needs to quickly fall in line so as not to be the normal customers of used vehicles. Investments should be directed towards renewable energies in production and daily use.

TravelRe: The Lagos Metro-Line Is Almost Completed (See PHOTOS) by tosinet(m): 7:11am On Aug 10, 2018
A form of crowd funding can be used to raise fund for this kind of projects. For instance, the N70b needed for this project can be raised with;
70000 people X N1m = N70b
7000 people/businesses/cooperative X N10m= N70b
700 individuals/businesses/investors/financial houses X N100m = N70b

Also, govt can focus on construction and management of rail lines, while individuals and groups can buy/own train cars to run as business on the rail line where they pay a percentage to the govt from their income.

For instance, a group like dangote owing 100s of trailers, large transport companies owning several luxurious buses or other capable individuals can buy and own train lines to run on govt/investor's railway with govt managing and regulating to ensure and maintain set standards.

This model can be adopted at the national level too, for instance, let's assume we want to build a 10000km railway line, there are individuals, group of companies and other investors that are capable of investing cost of construction of 1, 5, 10, 50km etc of the rail line thereby being part owner of such infrastructure with govt being the regulator in managing the entire system.

Baba, use your education and influence to fight for the disintegration of this country. Perhaps we may have a system as similar to the EU commission.

Nigeria is big enough to have up to 8 countries. Moreover, there are countries in EU with population not up to the efik/ibibio tribe e.g Iceland, Finland, Croatia etc.

If you think you have a chance in this highly tribalized country, then you are the most naive politician I know.

Enough said.

P.S it's high time we started talking about the future of this country. Diversity has never helped any country.
No matter who becomes president, the country is doomed to fail under this present arrangement.
True talk. Its better we fight for a system where each state can function independently yet come together where we have joint interest. It doesn't matter if its APC, PDP, APGA etc that's in govt, as long as its still this same customized system we are running, we are going nowhere.
PoliticsRe: Ekiti Election : Man Destroys His Permanent Voters Card (pictures) by tosinet(m): 8:44pm On Jul 15, 2018
To reduce and remove these accusations flying around about doctoring and influencing election results, INEC should be compelled to publish comprehensive results of all units in a ward and all wards in a local govt, where everyone and party agents can confirm the results of their respective unit; this will show how they arrived at the summation of figures they announce. Agents can take pics or short videos of presiding officer's result in their unit for reference.

Inducing voters with cash and kind especially 48 hours to election should be criminalized. Ballot box snatching, thuggery and disruption of voting process should have consequence like 2-3 years jail time and blacklisting from contesting or appointment to any public position.

So Rogue governors like Gov Wicked of Rivers state will now control their police as well?

Am I the only one seeing this as a plot for corrupt governors to use police machinery to influence elections in 2019?

What of states owing workers salaries? How can they be trusted to adequately fund the police?
Checks should be in place to curb abuse and excesses. Also the federal police will have overall outlined authority where there are established cases of power abuse and corruption, but overall state and local govt and community policing will go a long way in stopping most crimes in its track.
PoliticsRe: State, Community Police: Senate To Amend Constitution To Allow Its Creation by tosinet(m): 10:05pm On Jul 03, 2018
Good. But the creation of additional police systems should be well researched and thought out. Clear jurisdictions and hierarchies should be established to avoid unnecessary frictions. Checks and counter checks should be in place to curb corruption, vices and excesses.

As long as it is FG does/want to do this or that will hear always, Nigeria's inclusive growth will at best be at a snail's pace. But if it is news of state and especially local government's policies and achievements that's always in the news then we are on the way out of the quagmire we are in now.

CCTV, offer staff bonuses with targets, audit entry and exit; use rf access cards, allocate sections to individual or teams of staff to manage.

Create problems to see how staff respond.
Employing a bit of technology will go a long way in curbing crime on the farm.
EducationRe: How Federal Universities Ignore Email Enquiries In Nigeria by tosinet(m): 6:25am On Jun 07, 2018
Most of the older generations in the education system and other organisations are not technology savvy... More than 80% of non-teaching and administrative staff of institutions could barely use computer and mostly its for typing and printing memos.

That's part of the main reason the country is lagging behind in all phases of development. For instance, check the police, fire service, emergency response teams, FRSC, etc. By now there should be a central emergency call centre as obtained in other countries where you just call an emergency number like 000, 112, 911, 999 etc to get prompt response for emergencies.

More than two communication/imaging satellites has been launched in Nigeria still it is not benefitting anyone as almost all organisations are still stuck with the analog ways. Even our military and police are not making use of it to combat crime. Cheap internet service that should be available and benefit all Nigerians is still a long thing. I even heard one of our satellites got lost in space...

Many corrupt practices being perpetrated and sustained today is because of the analog way of keeping records, giving reports, accounting etc

Proper identification is non existence in the country as not more than 10% of Nigerian populace have national ID card. How do you secure or provide facilities for unknown number of users? Any effort being made towards moving to the digital way of doing things are always met with resistance, hostility and frustrations just to maintain the status quo.
