mcdreeezy: I'd also like to change mine cuz the surname I'm bearin, I don't even know the person,
most people dont actually know the originator of their surnames.

thats why its called descent.

its probably mostly whites who can trace their ancestry far back to their first known ancestor.

I know Britain has had British Nigerians born in Britain of Nigerian parentage for centuries, but there seems to be no or very little correlation with this phenomenon, in America.

CultureWere There Any Nigerian American Citizens Prior To The 1970s? by tpia1(op): 10:44pm On Jul 26, 2014
were any US citizen nigerian kids born to nigerian parents in the US prior to that decade?

just curious, nobody seems to be coming to mind.

has anyone heard of such instances, or has there been any famous nigerian who was born in the US before 1970?
CultureRe: Your View about Nigerians Who Travel To USA To Give Birth For USA Citizenship? by tpia1: 8:44pm On Jul 26, 2014
Princek12: My intelligent and wonderful people of Nairaland,

Many Nigerians who are neither legal residents nor citizens of the United States travel to the U.S. solely for the purpose of giving birth to their children for obvious reasons--to acquire USA citizenship for their newly born. It appears that a U.S. citizenship is mostly sought after by Nigerians, even more than a UK citizenship. As a matter of fact, a consular officer will deny your visa application if you show any sign of pregnancy at the interview. The USA Constitution provides that any persons born on U.S. soil is a U.S. citizen, and many Nigerians have taken advantage of this Constitutional provision. Sadly, many Nigerians come and accumulate thousands of dollars in hospital bills upon given birth, and simply abandon the bills when they leave. This has given Nigerians a very bad reputation among emergency hospitals, for some hospitals frown at many pregnant Nigerians who come to their emergency rooms while they are in labor (they are assuming that they won't pay their bills and run back to Nigeria).
The parents now take their newly born child, who is now a U.S. citizen, travel back to Nigeria and, without contributing anything to the U.S. economy, they expect that 18 years later, their child will come back to the U.S., a country to which they have paid no taxes or help develop, to benefit from several government programs provided for U.S. citizens.

Do you think that these practices is fair, especially after accumulating and ignoring a substantial hospital bill?
well, if the law allows for birthright citizenship, then the rest is inconsequential, in a way.

One has to assume the reason why citizenship is given at birth, is because it is needed.
HealthRe: Attitude And My Relationship With People by tpia1:
@ original post

i'd say try to have interests you can talk about with people, or show interest in their hobbies and personal lives (if they dont get creeped out by that).

introversion is a growing trait these days, so people have to make efforts to come out of their shells and relate more with the outside environment or else you risk being labelled.
HealthRe: Attitude And My Relationship With People by tpia1: 8:30pm On Jul 26, 2014
I want everyone to like me
i assume you mean you want as large a demographic as possible to like you, since its not possible for absolutely everyone to do so.

however, not saying it cant happen, perhaps its possible for somebody to have zero enemies or dislikers?
FamilyRe: Choosing A Child's Surname by tpia1: 8:24pm On Jul 26, 2014
mcdreeezy: If ur child's surname will be ur personal name, what then will be ur wife's surname? What will also be ur own surname? I thot a family is supposed to bear the same surname?
true, usually its the kids who make decisions to change their name later in life.

its no big deal.

people change their names all the time, why do you need nairaland to validate your decisions?
RomanceRe: An Introverts Guide To Successful Flirting/dating by tpia1:
key word is adjustment aka lifestyle modification.

rather than praise introversion, find ways to modify the trait since you do have to interact with others at some point.

just doesnt have to be all the time.

and yes, there is fear of being laughed at, people will do that but consider it a learning experience for next time.
FoodRe: ABCs Of Cake Making by tpia1(op): 8:05pm On Jul 26, 2014
not sure- there's the risk of spoiling, unless it was refrigerated.

from personal experience, after two or three days (at most four), it starts going bad.

the taste wouldnt be as fresh.

however, other cakes like fruitcakes, are specifically aged with the intention of altering the taste.

so, i guess it depends on the type of cake.
RomanceRe: What It Feels Like To Leave Our Single Parents by tpia1: 7:53pm On Jul 26, 2014
most single parents actually have a very active social life, especially during the earlier years. I'm yet to meet one who did not.

the loneliness(?) would set in only if there were comparatively less social stimuli, and in addition, loneliness might also be classified as boredom, not necessarily lonely per se.

just my opinion.
RomanceRe: An Introverts Guide To Successful Flirting/dating by tpia1: 6:02am On Jul 26, 2014
its only a man who doesnt want to date, who will not date.

last time i checked, introvert/extrovert never stopped anyone from getting a girlfriend.

every where you look, women full there, i dont know why talking or not talking would be a problem.

IslamRe: Muslim Singles, Let Us Have A Talk by tpia1: 5:57am On Jul 26, 2014
^ i didnt say Sino's poem was flirtatious though.

i said if a woman replies with a similar poem, it might be construed as flirtatious, which i was guessing might be the reason why people were hesitant to do so.

just my opinion, could be wrong.

His poem was ok, very deep.

baba11: Not atall tpia, what I have noticed is that I had garnered overtime that there are some things they wanted to hear, anything devoid of that, they are not interested!!!!
i think that's a nigerian thing.

if women were not like that, wouldnt be very long before one started hearing more stories of the kind which fill romance section.

of course, I'm just guessing here, the ladies can speak for themselves.
IslamRe: Muslim Singles, Let Us Have A Talk by tpia1: 3:18am On Jul 26, 2014
it might be misconstrued as flirting perhaps.

you never know.

anyway, maybe one is in the offing, if somebody decides to go ahead.

how did he know they are women and not men?
ok, if you say the pictures are not ladies, then that's fine.

moving on, you can continue with what you were doing before.

In the spirit of fairplay, (coughs) it is only fair for one of the sisters to write a poem, telling us how awesome muslim men are....

i have to agree with deols et al on this one.

wouldnt it be flirting if they did what you asked?

would sound like there is an ongoing non-formal relationship.

well, seeing the thread he opened before this one, was about why its dangerous to gaze on a strange woman face to face,

https://www.nairaland.com/1805117/why-dangerous-gaze-strange-woman

i suppose i guessed right, he probably has a battalion of threads meant for women only, which are on the way.

not saying there are no seducing women, just that the ratio to corresponding men seems like 1000 to 0.001 the way some folks would present it.
