babaearly: "Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves." (Matthew 10:16)it means dont display ignorance of the devices of the devil or the way of the world. wolves eat sheep, therefore dont ignore that fact in the hopes God will stop the wolves' mouths so they wont eat or harm you if/when you are in their midst. Or that they'll turn vegetarian just because you are there. |
another definition of smirk: you smile in an unpleasant way, often because you believe that you have gained an advantage over someone else or know something that they do not know |
farem: good for them and nigeria. |
oyo is the standard yoruba which is universally intelligible ie its understood in every nook and corner of the southwest. if by "most fluent" and "correct" you mean standard language. your presentation could use some upgrading. followed by lagos dialect if you ignore the "posh-isms" there. if we are rating languages based on how well they are understood by the most number of non native speakers. |
GboyegaD: Sure but how does that corroborate either of our views?it doesnt. |
GboyegaD: You know people work twice as hard to make it in the US for real? Is it from experience or hear says? If you tell me you need be upright and hardworking as there is no room for sluggards I will agree but that they have to work twice as hard, I totally disagree.you do know america is a multi cultural country. |
GboyegaD: Travel is the least of it. The opportunities the child can harness been an American citizen is much. One of such is going to study in the US at a reduced cost and more chances of getting grants, scholarships, and financial aids.instead of looking at "projected benefits", look at the reality on ground although i know most nigerians dont do that with anything that is not nigeria. The major benefits of having a child abroad, are mostly for the parents, not the kids, in the overall picture. |
The Smirk i find these days, its quite common to see people smirking. here are some definitions of the term: A smirk is specific kind of smile, one that suggests self-satisfaction, smugness to smile in an unpleasant way because you are pleased with yourself to smile in an affected or smug manner a smile expressing scorn, smugness, etc, rather than pleasurethe last definition is what i mean. A smile which comes from scorn or smugness rather than joy. its just a level of self satisfaction that i cant say I've ever experienced, is it really possible to have all your ducks in a row and be totally assured of the same? think i skipped this part of the learning experience. |
rutchiekens: everybody needs to play not just kids.thanks for this comment. |
patrickdarlins: as she APPEAR...i DIS-APPEAR...wen she disappears...i appear ....simple as ABC...smiles...simple. if only people stopped complicating their lives. |
Jman06: No prob because that has always been the norm among Nigerian wives.it has? |
didnt the shutdown clear up all these types of threads? |
really? |
JEITO: ok. But what I am interested in knowing, is how residing in America, changes the social or financial status of the family because I know you have to work twice as hard to make it over there. I mean, it is not like they pick jobs on the floor; especially with the unemployment rate put at over 6percent with blacks having the highest rate. Or are we just going to stop at the level of residence?people actually do not know the implications of being in america. nothing comes free, there's always a price. nuff said. |
Guys...do you think its acceptable and cool OR it's nasty and very unhygienic?do you think its easy listening to people fart? must be very uncomfortable for the hearer i should think. imagine you wan hear better thing as you dey listen, na so so fart you dey hear. |
any particular reason why we need to see pictures of nigerian air hostesses from 1973 now? ![]() |
northern nigeria? |
Genius100: The other advantage is that the kid can file for the Parents to get residency permits in the US when the kid turns 18...i guess thats the unspoken reason. |
why didnt you ask us the question before sleeping with her? ![]() was nl not here at the time? |
dont know what to think. if the child participates in sports and drama, what were the results from those? seems like the letter is geared against the students who did well in their studies. |
To add to your points, such a kid can enjoy scholarships and even some pay-once-you-are working loans to study in some of the best universities in the world.lol |
a response to this thread: https://www.nairaland.com/1815933/brother-wife-should-pick i hate backward thinking mentality, too many of such on nl. |
just discovered they have an indoor ski resort. wow, thats very impressive. |
Godson201333: Your kid is gonna make it down to America either through you or by himself!!!very true. |
its hard. @ topic. its like hugging a cactus, whichever you try to do it, you WILL get hurt. if not for the holy spirit, would be well nigh impossible for the majority of christians (ie the ones who are attempting to). |
to the best of my knowledge, not necessarily, since many women married to non-muslims still remain practising muslims. dont you become kaffir(?) if you are not muslim? |
alutacontinua: You're a citizen of the states, meaning if you have to put in for anything (all other things being equal, you have an edge over a non-citizen)a citizen has no edge over a non citizen who has papers. the only edge in the citizenship is ease of travel to other countries, and you only travel if you have money anyway. even if you travel to nigeria without money, nobody will welcome you regardless the colour of your passport. I'll gladly exchange my Naija passport for an American passport anytime anyday, QUOTE ME ANYWHERE!good for you. That passport pisses the hell outta me.hmph. and oops! You wanna stay forever in Naija, yeah? Well, your child might not agree with you.why would the child not agree with him? do you have any record of Fashola travelling out of nigeria prior to his involvement in politics? Goodluck jonathan? ![]() If op can afford it, give your child the opportunity (who knows, lil cutie might decide he prefers the western life to the 1790 life in Naija, life would be much easier for him with his citizenship).fallacy of assumption. Dual ctizenship is never something to regret! And if he decides to stay put in his fatherland, he's always a NIGERIAN!he's nigerian regardless where he stays. Not saying people should not have their babies abroad, just be aware speaking english or some non nigerian language without a nigerian accent, is not all there is to life. |
EfemenaXY: @tpia5: Did you have to quote me for that?just letting him/them know they can also take off the numbers in other monikers. |
