i wonder what the big deal is about the 20- 50 or so pounds per fortnight the wife might be earning from the minor burger flipping job she might get until she finds proper employment?

is that what will pay the mortgage?
Nairaland General › Re: Seun, What Has Been The Traffic Since The Upgrade Of The Nairaland-be Honest ? by tpia5: 12:47am On Apr 01, 2012
Seun: So? It just demonstrates that people don't register on Nairaland in order to enjoy the interface. They register to enjoy and interact with the content, and since new Nairaland did not change the content of Nairaland, the registration rate could not have changed. Also, any reduced usage by PC users would have been counterbalanced by increased mobile usage. The comparison with Western forums is irrelevant; you should be comparing us with other Nigerian Forums that target Nigerians living in Nigeria. Use common sense.
i think you personally would be better off analyzing other forums like boards.ie and finding features that could improve the user experience on nl.

dont just be all gragra because you feel nl seems to be the main forum where nigerians congregate for now.

remember the parable of the hare and the tortoise.

resting on past glory can be inane sometimes, and leads to complacency.
Phones › Re: RIM Retreats From Consumer Market After $125M Loss by tpia5: 12:35am On Apr 01, 2012
RIM's solution appears to be a re-emphasis on the corporate market and reducing its focus on consumers.

Although Apple has trounced RIM in the consumer market, analysts aren't sure that backing away from consumers is a good strategy; Apple has begun making inroads in the business market, too. Barclays Capital's Jeff Kvaal expressed reservations in a research note, pointing out that more companies today let employees use their own smartphones rather than issuing BlackBerries for corporate use. "We would have preferred RIM emphasize consumer," he wrote.

"The history of wireless is littered with OEMs that had significant product cycle/share gains, but then missed structural market shifts," Jim Suva, a Citigroup analyst, wrote.
we'll see how it all pans out i guess.

i seriously did not know blackberry doesnt have touchscreen devices? huh

Without a cool touchscreen device to keep customers from defecting, the company has been slashing prices on its existing handsets. It still hasn't been able to boost sales
http://marketday.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/03/30/10941667-blackberry-squeezed-rim-searches-for-options

my goodness- in this day and age when everything is touchscreen?

one of the write ups i read was talking about the R& D department.

Blackberry seems to not have caught up with current trends in the information technology market.

This is the same trend I see on nl if care is not taken.

Dont rest on past popularity but try to follow the way the wind is blowing as per consumer preferences.

establish a consumer R& D dept and LISTEN when people are telling you what they want as per site interaction. . . . . .

eni a wi fun oba je o gbo. . . . .. . .

when your market is customer driven, it's a very bad idea to not take cognizance of that fact, imo.

I have witnessed several divorces here in the US involving Nigerian women and foreign men. The women usually say that they missed having that Nigerian man who thoroughly understands her culture and with whom she can find solace. They all regret it.

MrMaintain: Thank you all for d responses and lots of food for thought.

Want to clarify. I know hw hard I worked to purchase the place I have now, although those who are familiar with London will know that whilst Camden is good for young professional you can't have family there (hectic). So I'm talking abt in the future. Should we (God willing) be blessed with family etc and have family home. I must add that my current one is perfectly fine, as I (thankfully) got a sweet variablÉ rate deal and am not locked in fixed.
She isn't a gold digger @ all, I agree with most of you that this is just an individual issue with us. I was very careful not to sayy MOST women are like dis cos its clear that they aren't. I guess it's abt the communication anyway.

noyostica....hmmm u think I don't know your type ehn? Form big guy for nairaland to make u sound somehow but how be it u get so much time that every one of your posts has been on romance section? (Go check his profile) Keep deceiving urself, cos u not deceiving anyone else.
you still dey talk? huh

what concerns nl with your personal problem btw.

did you meet your fiance here?

not sure where most of these guys are coming from nowadays.

not even married yet but already planning how to spar with the partner.

do people get good jobs as soon as they set foot in foreign countries? huh Maybe the poster has connections i guess.

if the issue of your wife's salary bothers you that much then have her handle other bills if the two of you cant reach an agreement about the mortgage. undecided

but why not even let her get the job first?

has she even gotten visa?

is the poster typing from mushin and imagining he's paying mortgage? huh
Family › Re: Who Pays For The Mortgage? Me Alone, Or Should Wife Help? by tpia5: 1:35am On Mar 31, 2012
how is the guy paying his mortgage now, before marriage? huh

if he's not ready to marry then he shouldnt for goodness sake.

and if paying rent is a problem then he should find a rich woman where he is, who can pay his bills for him.
Family › Re: Who You Marry Is Important For Your Community by tpia5: 10:56pm On Mar 30, 2012
Tpia, I am begging you to show me this reality of life. Let me learn from you now. I don't claim to know-it-all. I am always willing to learn
everybody has their own reality, and mine isnt yours and vice versa ie yours isnt mine.

so, technically, i cant claim to know more about life than the next person, even if i say i do. The next person can however, feel I know more.

different experiences, different realities.
Family › Re: Who You Marry Is Important For Your Community by tpia5: 10:51pm On Mar 30, 2012
I think her attempt at 'opening the eyes of the Black man' is kind-of cute
does the black community only consist of black men? huh

show us what the Black woman has as an advantage over her white counterpart and make us Black men wish for nothing else except a Nubian Princess
what you consistently fail to get is it's not a competition, and only a lefulefu aka lost soul would make it such.

do you not know the meaning of apples and oranges and arent you judging people based on skin colour even though you claim you're not racist? huh

anyway, i want to be done with this thread sha. I dont argue with people who reason like this. Its a problem that's beyond me.
Phones › Re: RIM Retreats From Consumer Market After $125M Loss by tpia5: 10:42pm On Mar 30, 2012
they're withdrawing from the consumer market and focusing on business customers only.

didnt want to post the sad news yesterday.

i know how nigerians love blackberries.
Nairaland General › Re: Seun, What Has Been The Traffic Since The Upgrade Of The Nairaland-be Honest ? by tpia5: 5:57pm On Mar 30, 2012
^^not sure why you consider observations, accusations.

nobody accused you of anything- reread my posts one more time.

the site gets new members almost at the rate of one per minute [give or take] and this has been consistent for a while and didnt change even when you switched to the new interface.

so, it stands to reason there's an automated program involved using algorithms or some sort of loop system, to boost the numbers. Nothing to get personal or offended about, and feel free to prove me wrong- no biggie.

@ topic: lipstick alley statistics. From the site:

maclatunji

one day you'll wake up from your dream.

i'm not interested in debating this with you but i do have an issue with the way you're attacking the op.

that's uncalled for and totally unnecessary.

i will leave you to your delusions since i have no personal stake in whatever you say is bugging you about the thread. Who you marry or want to marry, is not my business.

My focus is the black community and neither am i concerned with those who say they do not see a problem. That doesnt mean others must not see the problem.

if you feel your destiny lies outside these basic issues, then by all means follow your heart wherever it takes you- but stop attacking others who are grounded in the reality of life.
Nairaland General › Re: Seun, What Has Been The Traffic Since The Upgrade Of The Nairaland-be Honest ? by tpia5: 3:45am On Mar 30, 2012
^ my point was the traffic is the same as it's always been.

namely its linked to some form of autobots which automatically maintain the traffic flow.

I've been checking the traffic since the site was switched to nl2 and saw nothing to suggest otherwise.
Nairaland General › Re: Seun, What Has Been The Traffic Since The Upgrade Of The Nairaland-be Honest ? by tpia5: 2:27am On Mar 30, 2012
also check out immigration board for instance

http://forums.immigration.com/forum.php

210,000+ members and 303586 threads.

compared to nl which has 837,000+ members and 837879 threads.

The thread count is equal to the number of members. There's something weird about that.

here's another example

http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/

members 83,000+, threads 33,110.

thread count is lower than total number of members.
