In view of the many "ibons" which are rampant here, can we open a non-judgmental thread for obvious slips of tongue or keyboard which the users might or might not be aware of.

Since reading in Nigeria and by Nigerians is at an all-time low, it's the least one can do.

thread is for reference purposes. Plz, its not a thread for people to display their ability to insult. Thanks. wink

and note- I'm referring to honest mistakes, not the intentionally bad grammar some people type.

Most times, there's a way you can tell the difference between the two.

Foreign Affairs › St Michael's academy, Manhattan to close after 136 years of existence by tpiah(op): 5:57pm On Mar 27, 2010
A beloved Catholic high school in Manhattan announced Friday that it will close after 136 years - to the complete surprise of students and teachers.

Saint Michael Academy on W. 33rd St., which opened in 1874, will shut its doors at the end of the academic year, its 208 students and 20 teachers were told.

While the school community knew that the Archdiocese of New York was making cuts, they thought they were safe from closure.

"We've been processing and crying together for two hours," said Mike Radice, director of advancement at the school.

"This is a huge surprise, a very unhappy surprise," said Patricia Gabriel, head of the Federation of Catholic Teachers. "When I received the call, I was in shock. "

The Archdiocese had no comment when asked why it had decided to close the school. But a statement from administrators at Saint Michael Academy said the decision was due to "population shifts and changing demographics" as well as "the current recession, which affected the budget."

In addition to the closure of Saint Michael Academy, the Archdiocese announced last month that Saint James School and Saint Joseph School in lower Manhattan will combine this fall, and Saint Patrick's Old Cathedral School will close in June.

John McEvilly, a former business teacher who retired after 23 years at Saint Michael Academy, said the closure is so sad he's planning to "go back there and hold a wake to say goodbye."

"It was a wonderful place to work," said McEvilly, 65. "I can honestly say I was always proud of the students. The kids were always superb."

Christianity Etc › Re: If Abuzola Was Banned What About Ogaga4luv? by tpiah: 5:43pm On Mar 27, 2010
Correct me if I am wrong, but I see Ogaga as a far more courteous and polite person than Abuzola
Its very true ogaga4luv is one of the more polite people on this forum so far. Not saying that's necessarily a good thing in view of his aggressive proselytizing and personal worldview.

The problem is he tends to get carried away with his satanism-especially when he's looking for converts or trying to "coach" the converts he already got.

His main mission in this life is to destroy Christianity (likewise abuzola and their other cohorts). While he's quite welcome to try, in the meantime, he should go easy on the spam-like posts he makes on certain threads.

Of course its a free world, but for some reason the mods/admin are either afraid to delete his satanic imagery/content, or else are forbidden to do so by their creed.

Its nairaland- cultists get a free pass. Besides, I think many hackers and IT people are in the same cult.

Jesus is still Lord sha- whoever doesnt like my saying so is free to break their computer in annoyance.

Career › Re: Chemical & Process Engineers Forum by tpiah: 8:22pm On Mar 26, 2010
Downtime this, downtime that. I filled in Chemical engineering in two of the blank spaces in my JAMB form with much gusto only to end up practising structural/civil engineering. What a waste of enthusiasm. Our schools are busy churning out kids with hot ambitions who'll end up tucked away as a stressed out teller in one bank somewhere along the street. What hope is left? There's so much glut in the labour market and there's either going to be a blowout some time if these damned policy makers don't bleed off the excess to some reasonable quarters. My advice to the younger folks is to diversify, be vast, don't localize yaself. Broaden out! God help us.
banking is even good.

Some engineers used to end up as teachers while they were waiting for their dream job.

govt job is another option but it'll take a while to climb up, and the older engineers do get all the lucky breaks.
Career › Re: Medical Doctors' Forum: Let Us Know You! by tpiah: 8:05pm On Mar 26, 2010
when did things get to doctors vs pharmacists?

In Nigeria, it used to be doctors vs nurses, with both professions claiming the upper hand.

As for the nurse anaesthetist earning more than some doctors, the truth is that the service they are rendering is seen as more important hence the pay.Its the basic laws of demand and supply.
that story was misleading.

Nurse anaethetists might make more than on average than a family practitioner, but the basis of comparison is wrong.

An anesthesiologist (ie a medical doctor who specialized in anesthesiology), makes double the nursing equivalent's salary.

If the reporter wasnt being mischievious, he or she should have compared the average salary of a general nurse practitioner, with the family doctor's own.

The entire write up was misinformation, imo.

I do hope americans living in America know a bit more more about their system and what goes there, than Canadians who dont live in America?

not to mention I think its universally known that immigrants may actually receive better access to certain services than indigenes- itself a very sore point in some quarters?

People living in Canada are convinced the Canadian system is best for the US. Why is that? huh Have you lived in the US before?

what's the total population of Canada?

Of course the bill has been passed and that's that, but is it actually being sponsored by outside parties?

Tilapia, i like to be in touch with what is going on in people's heads, especially my fellow nigerians', because it affects us all. That is why i am here and concerned.
jargonlabi- insulting me gets you nowhere, though you may want to fool yourself by turning to insults when you know you've run out of steam.

I will most definitely insult you back oh- I'm not one of the meek christian "saints" you like to think you can pull one over on whenever the mood catches you. Had all Christians been like that there'd be no america or even a computer today for you to type rubbish on.

My advice to you?

Get a life instead of spending your time whining about what is or isnt happening in religion section. You say you're not religious, not so?

However, if it gives you joy to pass your time ogling religion which you say you dont believe in, then be my guest. Na you get your life, right?
