Neal Stephenson
The use of Avatar to mean online virtual bodies was popularised by Neal Stephenson in his cyberpunk novel Snow Crash (1992).[citation needed],[8] In Snow Crash, the term Avatar was used to describe the virtual simulation of the human form in the Metaverse, a fictional virtual-reality application on the Internet

has anyone figured out why Avatar has such a universal appeal?

An avatar is a computer user's representation of himself/herself or alter ego, whether in the form of a three-dimensional model used in computer games, a two-dimensional icon (picture) or a one-dimensional username used on Internet forums and other communities, or a text construct found on early systems such as MUDs. It is an object representing the user. The term "avatar" can also refer to the personality connected with the screen name, or handle, of an Internet user

In Norman Spinrad's novel Songs from the Stars (1980), the term avatar is used in a description of a computer generated virtual experience. In the story, humans receive messages from an alien galactic network that wishes to share knowledge and experience with other advanced civilizations through "songs". The humans build a "galactic receiver" that describes itself:

bawomolo:
or insufficient ventilation in an examination hall huh
that's possible. Other relevant questions include: how many other people passed out? Does she have a preexisting condition which could predispose her to fainting spells?

Heat stroke is due to an environmental exposure to heat, resulting in an abnormally high body temperature. In severe cases, temperatures can exceed 40 °C (104 °F). Heat stroke may be exertional or non-exertional, depending on whether the person has been exercising in the heat. Significant physical exertion on a very hot day can generate heat beyond a healthy body's ability to cool itself, because the heat and humidity of the environment reduces the efficiency of the body's normal cooling mechanisms. Other factors, such as drinking too little water, can exacerbate the condition. Non-exertional heat stroke is typically precipitated by medications that reduce vasodilation, sweating, and other heat-loss mechanisms, such as anticholingeric drugs, antihistamines, and diuretics. In this situation, the body's tolerance for the excessive environmental temperatures can be too limited to cope with the heat, even while resting.

I did think the name sounded strange- didnt know the man was supposed to be from lagos.

anyway, if he's being nominated to represent lagos, then Jonathan should also appoint other ministers for states outside their actual places of origin.

The same One Nigerians who rail against secessionist ideas are first to register their chagrin at the goings on in Jos. Someone said he never imagined such things taking place in Naija. Where was he in 1966? It is becoming increasingly apparent that anything short of the complete balkanisation of North and South Nigeria at least will only propagate misery in the lives of denizens in the jungle called Nigger area.

Romance › Re: Have You Ever Been Involved With A Pastor by tpiah: 3:26am On Apr 03, 2010
sojuicy:
@Tpiah

I was 17 (maybe 18) when this happened. He was in his 40's. It's sick of any one to assume that the lady, in this type of situation, is the instigator. To me he was just another Nigerian man having his cake and eating it. I didn't feel any more compelled to report him than I would any one else. I wouldn't have wanted to be the one to rip his wife's world apart. Nor be the subject of idle church gossip. I was a guest in their midst - he was the long standing member. Who do you think they would have believed, if he turned round and said I was lying?

At the end of the day, I believe God has a much better way of dealing with hypnocrites in his flock than any self appointed evangelical linch mob could.

A couple of years later, I did tell another person about it. What he did with that information I have no idea. He may have approached the guy quietly - that is the mature way to deal with that kind of situation. Although, as the Yoruba saying goes, Aja t'o fe so nu, ko ni gbo fere olode - The hunter's dog that is destined to get lost in the bush, is deaf to the hunter's whistle.

I do not trust any church pastor to be stronger in resolve not to fall than any other person. I could tell stories of things I've witnessed, been told about, but there is an air of judement and condemnations that the self appointed moral guardians here take upon themselves. I'm not in the mood to fuel their ignorant retorts.

If anything, pastors, elders, any man who does more in church than be a church usher, they are like politicians, with a drive for success that seems to also be mirrored by a high desire for intimacy. Only they are their own watchman. The smart ones treat themselves with distrust - and avoid temptation, avoid being alone with members of the opposite gender, etc.

Sojuicy
you should have still reported him regardless.

You didnt think about the wife during the fornication and adultery sessions (what Yorubas call agbere), so why should you be worried what the wife would think after he's exposed?

Not trying to be hard on you (though i still have to consider your other posts on Nl where you described having an affair with another married man, not to mention your antics in sexuality), but there are women who intentionally set out to seduce and destroy pastors and other church workers. Using any excuse.

True, you say you were only 17, but everyone has been 17 at some point, and a 40 year old man isnt the only choice for someone to have intimacy with at that age. Though people have different tastes sha.

I agree many church workers these days think nothing of sleeping around, but it takes two to tango. I've heard stories of church officials who wanted to sleep with someone in the church, and the lady refused them pointblank. Most of the time these men "scope" the women before making their move. Meaning they study the women and try to guess which one is likely not to expose them.

In fact- I just watched "An education". You should try watching that movie though your water don overflow garri sha, going by your posts in sexuality section. Anyway, this particular affair is past, you say, and you prefer letting God judge this pastor.

To me he was just another Nigerian man having his cake and eating it
this speaks volumes. So that "pastor" wasnt the first married man to have an affair with you?

^^ look, no be today some daft naija guys have been overly sensitive over foreign women who they think they need to "protect".

The whole world would view you better if you expended half as much energy being so considerate of your own women,, instead of the moonshine you're spouting here.

I'm surprised bawomolo, jassie and the rest of the needy ones havent shown up yet, complete with body armor and helmets, ready to defend somebody's "honour"

tales by moonlight.

There are plenty of Naija women married to or dating non-naija males, and till now I'm yet to see their partners taking up arms over irrelevancies like Nigerian men.

Take it or leave it she is your sister just like a nigerian girl is your sister as well. We all trace our origins back to Africa so be friendly to your sister in the Caribbean and be happy/helpful that they are hooking up with African brothers. You could have simply said there is igbo and ibibio sister so which exactly are you referring maybe i can be of help with more description.[/quote]easy on the waterworks.

Last time I checked, Jamaicans are better able to stand up for themselves than Nigerians.

I know some women like bonking married or "unavailable" men.

The fellow used you, no doubt, and you probably used him too, but just out of curiosity- did you ever inform any of the church elders (or even your uncle) about the matter.
