Toyboyz: The details of the meeting between the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Mohammed Adamu, and Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has emerged.
POLITICS NIGERIA understands that the number one police officer in Nigeria assured the governor of a level-playing field for all candidates in the forthcoming Edo governorship election. Adamu added that the police and other security agencies will not be bias in its operation.
Adamu also assured Obaseki that the police will not take sides with his main challenger, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Police boss told the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that the police will also put an end to the escalating violence in the state. He also assured the governor that the force had made adequate arrangements to secure the election.
A source at the meeting said governor Obaseki and his team thanked Adamu for accepting to see them.
According to him, “Obaseki thanked Adamu for providing security for them throughout his statewide campaign. He reported about 11 cases of violence in the state during the campaign and he accused APC of being behind the violence.
“He begged IGP to provide enough security during the elections and pleaded with him not to take sides.”
It was further learnt that Obaseki complained about Capt. Hosa Okunbo, a billionaire businessman backing Ize-Iyamu, saying the businessman was smearing his name and pleaded with IGP to rein him in.”

Nigeria comedian, Francis Agoda, also known as ‘I go die’ has commended the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, for his developmental strides in Edo while he was governor of the state.
Agoda gave the commendation at an APC ward-to-ward Edo Governorship campaign at Imiegba, Etsako East Local Government Area of the State on Sunday.
He said Oshiomhole placed high priority on infrastructural development hence the expansion of the Benin Airport road to dual carriage way and construction of major roads across the state.
He described Oshiomhole as the best governor Edo has ever had saying, “you have done what no other governor of Edo has done and I commend you for that.”
The comedian also appreciated Oshiomhole for contributing to his success in the entertainment industry.
Speaking at the campaign rally, Oshiomhole said good governance was about alleviating the plight of the masses.
He said he decided to throw his weight behind Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, candidate of APC in the Edo Governorship election because of his track record of good leadership and credibility.
He alleged that the Gov. Godwin Obaseki-led administration was more of a propaganda government which had not met the yearnings of Edo people.
Meanwhile, Sen. Francis Ailimekina, member representing Edo North Senatorial district at the National Assembly urged his constituents not to sell their votes but vote for APC.(NAN)

Trumpcard05: Edo State deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, on Monday petitioned the Edo Police Command and the Department of State Services (DSS) seeking the prosecution of Adams Oshiomhole, former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Osagie Ize-Iyamu, gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress in next month’s governorship election in the state, for allegedly recruiting and arming youths ahead of the poll.
Briefing journalists in Benin City shortly after submitting the petition, Shaibu urged security agencies to take action and bring the duo to book so that the state can have peace.
He accused the duo of desperation for power which he said portends bad omen for the state.
The deputy governor alleged that Oshiomhole is plotting to set the state ablaze in connivance with his party’s gubernatorial candidate.
“I have to cry out because I know both of them very well, even in the dark; I can clearly identify their hands. I am concerned because if not checked, it portends grave danger for our state, before, during and after the September 19, 2020 gubernatorial election,” Shaibu said.
I believe you are all aware of the recent killings in their camp, where five members were mauled down in Ikhin, Owan West Local Government Area of the state.
“On Friday, August 14, 2020, the youths gathered in Ikhin to share money after their poorly organised rally in Afuze. A disagreement within them led to the shooting that resulted in the death of five youths. The question here is, who armed the youths to kill themselves? This clearly shows that the APC former national chairman has pushed out so much arms in readiness for the election as they have nobody on ground supporting them,” he alleged.
“I fear for our youths and those from the neighbouring states who are being recruited and armed to go kill themselves. I want to advise parents to pay more attention to the whereabouts of their sons and the type of company they keep during this period because these two men don’t care about the safety of lives and property of others but about their personal ambition,” he said.
Shaibu said he does not believe that blood of innocent youths must be shed to achieve anyone’s personal ambition.
“I am not just raising false alarm; I know both of them very well like the back of my palm,” he said.
After reeling out what he tagged “catalogue of atrocities committed by Oshiomhole and Ize-Iyamu”, Shaibu urged the security agencies to “take action now and bring them to book so that Edo can have peace, otherwise their desperation and thirst for power portends bad omen for our dear state”.

“So, what they don’t understand is that it is not the office of chairman that makes me who I am. It is my pedigree from my days as a labourer in the textile industry to be the general secretary of textile workers all over Nigeria and becoming the president of NLC.
