Romance / Does A Bride To Be Have To Receive An Engagement Ring Before The Wedding? by trinigirl1(f): 3:00am On Feb 21, 2007
If a couple is getting engaged, does the bride to be have to receive an "engagement ring" from the groom to be before the actual marriage ceremony where she'll get yet another "wedding ring" to either replace or add onto the engagement ring?

Where did that tradition come from anyway?

An archaeologist was digging in the Negev Desert in Israel and came upon a casket containing a mummy.

After examining it, he called the curator of a prestigious natural-history museum.

"I've just discovered a 3,000 year-old mummy of a man who died of heart failure!" the excited scientist exclaimed.

To which the curator replied, "Bring him in. We'll check it out."

A week later, the amazed curator called the archaeologist.

"You were right about the mummy's age and cause of death. How in the world did you know?"

"Easy. There was a piece of paper in his hand that said, '10,000 Shekels on Goliath'."

Pain:

There is a legend about a bird which sings just once in its life, more sweetly than any other creature on the face of the earth.

From the moment it leaves the nest it searches for a thorn tree, and does not rest until it has found one. Then, singing among the savage branches, it impales itself upon the longest, sharpest spine. And, dying, it rises above its own agony to out-sing the lark and the nightingale.

The Thorn bird pays the price with its life, just to sing one Sweet Song. But the whole world stills to listen and God in His heaven smiles.

For the BEST is only bought at the cost of great PAIN, Or so says the legend.

And so was our collective SALVATION bought by CHRIST on the CROSS.

Pain isnt always as negative as you think.

Pain,

You sound catholic.  Correct me if I am wrong.  But their usual focus on the death and suffering of christ is apparent in this fairy tale story. Tell me, do you believe in self flagellation as well?

Please, do you think Jesus came to die for our sins so that we can suffer for salvation?

Focus on the resurrection and redemptive power of the gift not the pain and sorrow of the death of Christ.

What about casting all your cares on him, what about taking his yoke, because his yoke is easy and his burden is ligt,
what about the fruits of the spirit being peace, joy, love, longsuffering (meaning patience, not making yourself suffer).

Stop focussing so much on Pain.

Consider this:

The True Family of Jesus

Matthew 12: 46-48

As Jesus was speaking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, asking to speak to him. Someone told Jesus, “Your mother and your brothers are outside, and they want to speak to you.”

Jesus asked, “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” Then he pointed to his disciples and said, “Look, these are my mother and brothers. Anyone who does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother!”

Noah's Ark

There is only one verse in the Bible which gives us a hint of where we the ark came to rest, "the ark rested, upon the mountains of Ararat." Genesis 8:4.

Where is Ararat?  The name Ararat is a large area or ancient country covering eastern Turkey, western Iran and western Russia

The Ark has been found and confirmed since 1960.

"The American Academians confirmed the soil pile nearby the village of Uzengili in the township of Dogubeyazit is Noah's Ark.  The surrounding area is declared to be a national park and it is opened to tourism."

They even found more conclusive evidence of animal dung, cat hair, the base of an antler, human hair, and man-made fiber.

Tle last photo shows the ark deeply embedded in the surrounding terrain.  In 1978, when Mr. Wyatt, one of the excavators, was returning to Nashville, he prayed that God would send an earthquake to "excavate" the site.

When arriving in Nashville the headlines read "Earthquake in Eastern Turkey."

The earth dropped from around the sides of the ark, defining the formation more clearly and making it more accessible for research.

Please enjoy, and let God be true and every man a liar.

God Bless!

Hi you all!
I have been quite busy with some other things. But I will have to draw this topic to its end even though I know you have taken your stand on what you want to belief but I advise you keep your mind open and allow God to lead you as you study the scripture and live the life Jesus called us to live.

There is God; the father (almighty God), God; the Son (Jesus Christ) and God; the Holy Spirit.
If you believe in the above, you will then understand that God is a family name (surname/last name) for the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ is God; the Son and virgin Mary is the mother of God, the son.

Jesus Christ is God and hence Mary is the mother of God.

Am not arguing with you but am only letting you know the truth I have known about the mediatrix power of Mary in ensuring that all her children (christians) are not lost but have grace enormous to follow the teachings of her son, Jesus Christ and overcome the world.

Honor her, she is the mother of God.

Regards.

Amby,

I understand this is what you believe, however, please  consider the scriptural evidence that has shown that your belief is sincere, but sincerely wrong?

I'm disappointed that you did not even attempt to scripturally validate your belief after showing you evidence that mary was just a vessel chosen to do god's work.

So "God"  has now been reduced to a family/surname.  Therefore the trinity is Jesus Christ God, Holy Spirit God, and God God undecided  So I guess we should call her Blessed Virgin Mary God

Do you really believe what your posting here?

Have you read my submission that flesh gives birth to flesh and sprit gives birth to spirit, therefore Mary gave birth to the human incarnate of God, but not God himself?

Even without "spiritually discerning" this, it's logically impossible!

And please, since when did Mary become a mediator for the souls of man This Catholic religion, my god, the romans really did a good job at twisting everything pure about the gospel.

I would be convinced that Mary is the mother of God if you show me scripture that proves her "mediatrix" power that you claim to have "known" about.

1 Timothy 2:5
For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus

John 14:6
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Amby, Jesus is more than able to be our mediator, since he knows the weakness of flesh

Hebrews 4:15
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin.

Romans 8:26
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.

Hebrews 7:25
Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.

I compel  you to consider that following religion brings no reward, since obviously it blinds  you from the truth resident in the gospel of Christ.

Regards.

@ trini girl, I feel you. no matter what critics say, still hold on to your faith. Belief is a personal thing. You can't stop others from critisizing your religion. It shows their quest for knowledge.
However, why has christianity been the most x-rayed/attacked on this forum.? isnt there other belief or religion?
It seems there is something special about xtianity.

tafari, criticism is one thing, blatant disrespect and mockery is quite another.  i think i may have to reconsider my opinion of certain people on this forum.

it doesn't show a quest for knowledge at all, it shows ignorance, especially for those who claim to "seek truth". even in atheism they claim to feign enlightenment by having high morals which is shown by respect for all other belief systems, but faith in none, since in their minds there is no deity.

and of course there is something special about christianity.  Christ!  grin  the only way, the only truth and the life, the son of God, the Word of God, God Himself!

This sandstone statue of King Ashurnasirpal II is from the ninth century BC. The eight lines of cuneiform text on his chest reveal his name, titles, and exploits.

The statue was placed in the Temple of Ishtar to remind the goddess Ishtar of the king's piety.

Kings often boasted of the exotic things they acquired from abroad, not only raw materials and finished goods but also plants and animals.

The king's hair and beard are shown worn long in the fashion of the Assyrian court at this time.

It has been suggested that the Assyrians used false hair and beards, as the Egyptians sometimes did, but there is no evidence for this.

Ashurnasirpal with his long hair and beard holds a sickle in his right hand. The mace in his left hand shows his authority as vice-regent of the supreme god Ashur.

The carved cuneiform inscription across his chest proclaims the king's titles and genealogy, and mentions his expedition westward to the Mediterranean Sea.

In 612 BC the Babylonians and Medes came and destroyed proud Assyria and the Assyrian Empire passed into history.

"Woe to Assyria, the rod of My anger And the staff in whose hand is My indignation. I will send him against an ungodly nation, And against the people of My wrath I will give him charge, To seize the spoil, to take the prey, And to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

Yet he does not mean so, Nor does his heart think so; But it is in his heart to destroy, And cut off not a few nations. For he says, "Are not my princes altogether kings? Is not Calno like Carchemish? Is not Hamath like Arpad? Is not Samaria like Damascus?

As my hand has found the kingdoms of the idols, Whose carved images excelled those of Jerusalem and Samaria, As I have done to Samaria and her idols, Shall I not do also to Jerusalem and her idols?"' Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Lord has performed all His work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, that He will say, "I will punish the fruit of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his haughty looks." For he says: "By the strength of my hand I have done it, And by my wisdom, for I am prudent;

Also I have removed the boundaries of the people, And have robbed their treasuries; So I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man."

In June 1961 Italian archaeologists led by Dr. Frova were excavating an ancient Roman theater near Caesarea Maritima and uncovered this interesting limestone block. On the face is aninscription which is part of a larger dedication to Tiberius Caesar which clearly says that it was from "Pontius Pilate, Prefect of Judea."
It reads like this:

Line One: TIBERIEUM,
Line Two: (PON) TIUS
Line Three: (PRAEF) ECTUS IUDA (EAE)

The Pilate Inscription is the only known occurrence of the name Pontius Pilate in any ancient inscription. Visitors to the Caesarea theater today see a replica, the original is in the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. There have been a few bronze coins found that were struck form 29-32 AD by Pontius Pilate.

The Pontius Pilate Inscription is important in the study of Biblical Archaeology and confirms the Scriptures found in the Bible as historical.

It's true what Paul said, even to this day.

But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness.

They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them.  For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky.

Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature.

So they have no excuse for not knowing God

Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks.

And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like.

As a result, their minds became dark and confused.

Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools.

So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired

They traded the truth about God for a lie.

So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise, Amen!

Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done.

You know, I'm getting really sick and tired of seeing derogatory, inflammatory things about christianity on this forum.

Instead of putting so much effort into trying to defame God, why not submit WHAT YOU NOW BELIEVE as a tenable REPLACEMENT or ALTERNATIVE TO CHRISTIANITY!

People think they are attacking "religion" when they are in fact attacking and mocking God himself!

Please, for your own sakes, you hate christians, fine, you hate God or you think he doesn't exist? Fine! But please try and desist from condemning your own soul deeper and deeper by saying things against him.

This Marjoe Gortner is a schooled manipulator.  I read his interview where he alludes that the infilling of the holy spirit is manufactured psychological hysterics.  I've heard it all before.  But did you not read my own personal experience on how I received the infilling?? No hype, no one around me, no excitement, no effort on my part.  See https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-12604.128.html

Instead of always trying to provoke people about how stupid they are for following Christ and believing what is written in the Bible, why don't you people offer us a viable alternative that has yielded you some positive fruit without sounding confused like Jen? See https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-39918.64.html

To this day she hasn't been able to explain to me, according to the logic of "being one with the universe and being incarnated to perfect oneness of same", why after billions of years human incarnates are yet to be the peaceful beings she claims the rest of the universe to be, even after our alleged "spirit guides" counsel us for soul development before every incarnation. Perhaps it's because we are made to "forget" before we incarnate as new human beings.
** rolls eyes **

Instead I got some watery contradiction about not all human beings are reincarnated.  lipsrsealed

Still dancing around an answer, and now she has the audacity to revert again to attacking the content of the Bible.  angry

Should we be an athiest like you Seun? Embrace reincarnation like you Jen? Become members of the Kinky Church of Saint Magdeline or whatever, like Reverend? or perhaps embrace Universalism, like KDK? Yeah! Let's worship the universe! No! Let's worship ourselves, since we are ALL gods! Wait, no, a true god doesn't require worship, rather, as gods, let's just existentially evolve into karmic and cosmic euphoria!

** shakes head pitifully **

God is truly a patient and merciful God, but my patience is surely wearing thin.  angry

I guess because the motive as usual, is to get an angry, defensive reaction (which I have finally fallen for), and then to comment "typical response from a religous, misguided retard in need of mental reconfiguration".

This makes them feel better about themselves I suppose.  undecided

When are you people going to realise the distinction between religious institution or cult and christian discipleship?

I will give you the expected reaction, so you can have the expected satisfaction of prediction.

Jevohah God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, Moses and Jacob, the El Shaddai, the King of kings and the Lord of lords, the God of glory who thunders and yes! the Mighty Man of War who slays his enemies in heaven and on earth, will JUDGE ALL and everything that exalts itself against the knowledge of Christ, and will on this earth and in the next life give each one according to his own works!

I would use another cliche that "a word to the wise is enough" but as many have proven here they only have lots of knowledge but absolutely no wisdom whatsoever!

Happy now Seun?  angry
