Zoolezoo:I agree with your assertion. But the question is why are Yoruba sub-groups always added to the Yoruba nation, but that of the Nupes is being deliberately relegated, from the colonial daysdays to this present day? |
realjoker:If it is a Yoruba town 100%, how come it had the name "Jebba". Do you mind explaining its etymology? |
realjoker:If it is a Yoruba town 100%, how come it had the name "Jebba". Do you mind explaining its etymology? |
Markfemi2:I have other ones too if you want. However, I'm interested in the books "that pre-dates Lugard's" which you claim to possess. Send them. |
Markfemi2:You've just shot yourself with a Double-barrel gun I aksed you about the Kanuri-Yoruba coalition. But you are referring to the Alimi-Afonja historical saga. Please refer back to the earlier discourse, and answer the questions posed there. |
Markfemi2:Source, Source, Source. How many wars did the duo fought together? Who was the Aare on Kakanfo then? Which tribe was the war waged against? Which prominent territory was gained or lost. Provide your sources to back your argument. This is getting interesting |
Markfemi2:Can you kindly send them. I'm more interested in Mungo Park's book. So far you are not a scholar with international publications that have been popularly cited in reference to this subject matter, the best you can do is counter-argue with your own facts. Thanks. Once again, I implore you to send at least 3 (Mungo Park's inclusive). |
Zoolezoo:Even the name "Yoruba" is a British invention to join various ethnicities with similar cultures and linguistic similarities together. The same applies to the other "Super-tribes". |
Markfemi2:Sir you need to a crash course in history. Send your email, and I would send you a very detailed source. It is a book published in 1942. The forward was written by Lugard himself. It is almost 500 pages. Once you are through with it, I would send other reaources to you. But for now we are done with this argument. If you need additonal material, notify me. |
Markfemi2:We are still running in circles here. Jebba was originally founded as a Nupe settlement and had remained so right unto Colonial times. But in the immediate post-Colonial era, after the White man singularly created a Yoruba race out of thin air... (Abdullahi and Ndace, nd). Excerpt from "the Makers of Nupe" |
Zoolezoo:Update: Jebba is in Moro LGA. Yoruba is not the only language the speak. The perspective I'm coming from is that Jebba is traditionally a Nupe town. Obviously, the world is becoming very diverse, and Jebba is not ab exception. |
Markfemi2:Did you spent at up to two weeks to explore ![]() Below is a screenshot form Yahaya (2003):
|
Markfemi2:Which means that you've just agreed with an earlier assertion of mine. Don't get confused sir.I don't understand your second statement. Please, restructure. |
Markfemi2:Let' start using other using other resouces apart from aby encyclopedia. You can see what I'm saying, the Adebara dynasty startedstarted in the late 18th century, while Jebba has been existing before that. Before I forget, please is Jebba a Yoruba word? (Prove that with all you've got). If it is not, from what language was the word derived? |
Markfemi2:Sure, and I still have tons of resources that still points to the fact that it is a MAJOR nupe town. The Nupes for century have occupied the Niger till this present day. I can prove that anywhere fact. |
IsanluMakutu:Jebba is Moro LGA so? A town being in an LGA dominated by an ethnic group does not strip it from its identity. Take for instance, Tsaragi is in Edu LGA and Tsare (share) is in Ifedlodun LGA but the two town are divided by a very narrow road. AUTHORITATIVELY?? Are you an historian in any field(Anthropology, Sociology, African studies etc) or have you published books that takes talks about these two towns. Or you've only lived there for some years or at worst a decade and you depend on heresay from just abt source? Sir, please respond accordingly thanks. |
Markfemi2:Any fool with a phone can write, edit and post on Wikipedia. Give me 5 academic sources and I might believe you. |
aljharem:Since you don't want to act civil without name calling and other disgusting act, let me school you a bit (even if you are my grand pa's age)! Jebba is a Nupe town, and the name Jebba is an anglicized Nupe word which originally is "Ejeba" which means; a place where river/stream flows. Check this out: "Jebba, town, Kwara state, western Nigeria. It lies on the south bank and at the natural head of navigation of the Niger River, 550 miles (885 km) from the sea. It is populated by the predominantly Muslim Nupe people, whose kingdom, refounded by Tsoede, flourished in the region in the early 16th century. From this period date the noted Jebba bronzes. The island of Jebba in the Niger River still retains a traditional Nupe settlement."(Britannica, 2017). The "Oba" is an invention which is a century old or less, and it is closely linked with the anti-Nupe colonial master Frederick Lugard and the capitalist Goldie of the Royal Niger Company. Though, other machinations are involved. Before I forget, predominant language in Jebba is the NUPE language. Sir, don't think we are all high school kids here or tribal warlords here. Peace. |
9jakool:Yoruba land does not include Jebba. Get your facts right sir. |
TD4real:Sir, you are an adult hence, you act based on what is right for you. Let us decipher the issue with 3 "questuon-like statement": 1. Would there be a ready job after coming back from Canada? Probably you're one of those with lots of strings to pull. If that is the case, you can proceed, if it is not? Sit diwn and enroll for a part-time masters in Nigeria or at best a DL Masters. 2. Why is your dad insisting on an MSc? If your dad is pressurizing you do bag a masters degree and you feel that it is not your next calling, you explain to him that it is not yet your priority. Except he has prepared a higher paying job for you, abd he would take care of ALL your expenses (which I strongly oppose at that age), you can advise him to bag one ( if he does not have one yet). 3. You want to settle down next year? From your response, I can see that you are in a very comfortable position to start a family. Don't delay it for any reason that is not a life threatening issue. What is the essence of fornicating around (I'm not saying you do) if you can marry and enjoy yourselves legally. Don't stretch her patience any longer. She's a woman faced with different pressures (parental, fertility etc.). That's what I would do I were you. "What would it profit a man to have an MSc degree without a job and a spouse?" Think sir, think! |
Mr, I believe you are old enough to make independent decisions regarding your life. Why should you still ve deliberating on such at your age, when men even at 21 are already out of their parents house. Whenever your parent become saddened ans ask you why you want to live, kindly ask them when they left their own parents house and why. Thanks. |
Kayswat:What sort of abuse is that! Until you two stand up to them, and show them you can be responsible, he would keep treating you like kids. |
saudyarmani:God forbid, what if ge does not live till the next 5 years?? ![]() |
dsamedaniels:So he should wait for 4-5 years before getting married? I trust that you are aware of new marriages of peeps in their 40 somethings crashing. Don't you think that tge loss of their "cash cow" is a reason for the deliberate delay? And by 4-5 years they would have gotten their ROI. Parhaps, this issue is a lot deeper... |
PierreDeFermat:25 is too young to marry, but not too young to fornicate ![]() |
doveda:God bless you sister! Some people feel ready to carry on responsibilities EARLIER than others. Being that each individual has a their separate "ready" time, it would be too cruel to hold him down due to their perceived assumption that he is not ready. Opportunities come marriage or not. Your lecturer's perspective is bot the general yardstick! I plan to marry at 25, and I'm a full blooded Nigerian male. |
I. I. A Mass Communication KWASU 2016/2017 I would prefer: Oyo, Kano and Bauchi or Kebbi |
GloryIsaac:You've tried your best, its left to him to MAN up. However, I think his parents' aggression towards him could be tied to him not securing an admission ealier, as you mentioned that they are strict. |
GloryIsaac:Oh My God! They have succeeded in killing his self-esteem. Which right-thinking parent does that, Nigeria or not. How a 22 yr-old MAN allow himself to be physically abused to such extent baffles me. I know some people in their 20s, who still thinks it is their parents and elders God-right to beat them Is he still struggling to gain admission, or has he committed any despicable act recently. If he is through with his studies, I strongly advise that he should move out and start his "hustle" no matter how little, that my help him get his esteem back, and also look squarely into the face of anybody who wants to violate him. Abuse of any colouration should never be condoned parent or no parent. |
gabazin080:So if the autopsy is done, would that resurrect him? ![]() |

Kwara State University, malete has just concluded its fourth convocation ceremony on the 4th of June 2016, in line with the school's tradition of hosting it every first Saturday of the month of June. The event which was colourfully held in the just concluded mini multi-purpose convocation arena. The event was accompanied by pomp and pagentry, and well graced by dignitaries, graduands, parents and well-wishers. The Kwara state governor, Dr. Abdul Fatai Ahmed was not present, but was ably represented by his deputy, Mr. Peter Kishira. However, the chancellor, Professor. Ibrahim Gambari was present in company with other distinguished people. The event marked another stride in the envious history of the university, as it witnessed the convocation of two best graduating students and 23 first class students in a set of over one thousand students. The university has recorded some remarkable achievements, as it has been granted the proposal of establishing a national special force reserve where graduates and qualified others from across Nigeria and abroad on continued training on National Reserve that can be mobilized anytime for national assignment no matter what profession they end up doing after graduation. The first of it is kind in the country. However, there has been some grumbles from the parents in regards to the size of the temporary convocation arena not able to accommodate then size of the attending populace. Summary of today's event from a Kwasuite. Lalasticlala, fynedtboi. |
