THE AMAKA:Peacefully and happy together? U are naive That is what they will also say about Nigeria Most of the so-called peaceful countries are ruled by ruthless dictators, that doesnt accommodate criticism let alone give room for dissenting tribe or ethnic nationality Cameroon, Equatorial - Guinea, Congo (the other congo) |
THE AMAKA:Looks like you dont know anything about Africa. Just go to wikipedia and read about every African country, especially, the largely black populated countries From Morrocco (Western Sahara crisis), Algeria (Islamic crisis), The 2 Guineas, Seirra Leone, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Congo, CDR, Chad, Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, Madagascar, Somalia, Ethopia, Eritria, Angola, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania - - - - - - majority of African countries have experience civil war, one way or the other. Not to talk of intra and inter ethnic clashes that errupt any moment |
tpia.:What eagle are u guys talking about? The eagle in our national emblem? I think that is a joke to me too. I dont even know what it represent. But I do know that, across the northern region of Nigeria, no state or ethnic nationality identify eagle as a symbol of anything. I think the designers just fostered their idea on us. I consider cow as more akin to our nature. And every Nigerian can be easily identified with cow. Either the cattle rearers up in the north - Fulani. The Lazy bastards that butchers the cow - Hausa The fat asses that eat the hide & skin - Yoruba The egocentric, self-centred crime proffs - Igbo The cow constitute a significant source of our protein, |
After staying in Scotland for some years now, I realise we are not the only ones crying foul about our ethinic problems. Most of the Scots hate the english, especially the Joes and Jennys. I also observe the make up of Europe, before the World War II and Balkanisation of Yugoslavia, Europe is prone to tribal/ethnic wars for superiority and resource control. Now, every ethnic nationality, apart from Roma ppl, have carve out an enclave the called their country, with their flag and language as a national identity. They enjoyed a relative peace and decide to come together, to meet the challenges for the future on equal terms under the banner of EU. In my own opinion, there is need for Nigeria and Nigerians to recognise we cannot continue to exist peacefully and happily and develop to our potentials if there inter and intra tribal rivalries are not addressed, especially on the southern part of the country. My case for the south is that, the vast majority of the North are inter connected, either by Islamic religion or by Hausa language, which is a unifying identity. My headache begins when I looked at the tiny map of Nigeria, the population, and the large number of ethnic nationalities. How do satisfy everybody? How can we give every nationality its own piece of Land? How can we settle boarder disputes? Who will adjudge on our inter and intra ethnic disputes. The south - south, mid-western and middle belt regions, may look like war zones. |
The gov't should better hurry and dredge it. This will enhance the water carrying capacity of the lower Niger. Especially now that Niger Republic is building a dam on the same river. There is no point in allowing the fresh water to flow back to the Atlantic Ocean when we are desperately in need of water |
Well, Imam and Afla doesnt have much power. I can name so many Pastors: Father Pius Kii (Rivers Stater) Adeboye Oyedapa Pastor Chris TB Joshua Okotie and host of others How many Alfas or Imam do you know? Despite the fact that Islam is a fundamentally conservative, the religious leaders are not hold with high esteem as it is in Christianity |
This forum is for whiners. They have nothing to complain about so why should they even be here in the first place. Most of them will not even comprehend what we are complaining about |
Nigeria is a like a polygamous man, married to 250 ethnic nationalities. Each nationality saving as a mother to its own ppl. The tribal fight, hatred, mistrust is akin the siblings rivalry of different mothers. Each fighting to gain attention from their father. No wonder Nigeria is called Our Father Land. Not mother land like conventional English dictates. |
Why not they can kidnap Alfas and Imam. The only problem they will encounter, is they will find that Imams and Alfas are not profitable. Reason, since there is nt tithing (teeting), (titing) (I dont know how u guys pronounce it, Alfas and Imams are usually not rich unless they are work hard in their on vocation or job. Any full time Alfa is a poor man. |
This is a purnishment. . . it is too much. . . break it into 2, it is difficult to read. . . even though it sound interesting |
SapeleGuy:well, to me, you can be stubborn, angry and bitter towards them, but at the end of the day they are your parents. There is still some emotional connection you will have for them. Some parents are bad parents because of the circumtances they find themselves when they concieve the child. Usually, they are younger, immature, economic problems and host of issues ranging from unplanned pregnancy, family. . . u understand what I meant? |
It is just like saying - are u loyal to your father or your mother? |
cre8tivity:Dont be cynical, No one is saying Ribadu is the best thing of Nigeria.# Ribadu represents our aspiration for justice and equality. Ribadu represent victims of injustice in Nigeria Ribadu represents the dream of many youth He is not the only Nigeria and certainly not better, but when someone is single out by Providence, we acknowledge. A society without a role model is a society without a guide |
cre8tivity:Common Crea8tivity you are known Ribadu hater. Let us face the fact, Nuhu Ribadu, like many other Nigerians, have a family that he must feed, educate and take care of their health, since the government cannot provide public health care. He left Nigeria, to educate himself, work and earn some money, to take care of his family. The good thing about Nigeria is that there is no continuity. It is a non fact that Yar'adua is a failure. A total failure. His policies more than harm Nigeria. |
There is certainly shortage of female especially in some parts of the North. If you really want to marry someone from your town, you have to book early. I have known ppl that have to book a girl as young as 11 for marriage. Last time I went home, specifically to start wife hunting, I had rough time. The only free girls (among the marriageble ones) are below 15 and mostly in Secondary Schools. All the girls are booked. Infact it is common to for a girl to have more than one suitor at the same time. And all of them given time to proof their love. Some girls give men time table. You come tomorrow, the next day another guy will come. Or u will come 8 - 9pm, and another guy will be waiting for you by quater to 9, so that his time will start 9 - 10pm. Looking for a wife in the north is terrible. |
larez:I said plant, not tanker, can't you read between lines. All I'm suggesting is we have to end export of our gas to foreign countries when we badly need it for our own development. |
kufreabasi:Are you out of ur mind? Rent a room for his mother because he want to leave with his wife? You are talking of a mother. The woman that carried him for 9months, feed him cloths him and wash his nyash for years. This is not an answer @ Poster. You should understand the importance of a mother to a Man. You should not understand estimate his love for his mother. Love her as much as you will love your mother. You have already identified one of the reasons. She dont like sharing toilets with other ppl. Perhaps you guys leave in a house where u and ur husband have a toilet inside ur room and ur Mother in Law have to content with the 'house public' toilet. This is understanding from her part. She must have played a very big role in her son's life and she resent the idea of being treated 2nd class to another woman. Tell your husband to get a bigger house so that she can get a Toilet for herself, if you get one for yourself. Most Nigerian women have preconcieved idea of wicked mother in law. Don't forget you will be a mother in law too. Take her as your mother. If you want to do something and she advice you, take her advice just like the way if your mother advice. Dont look at it as if she is nose diving into ur affairs. If your mother advises you, she is a caring mother. If you mother in law advise you, she is meddling, even if she is right. Wives . . . . our mothers are very dear to us . . . we can change wife but not a mother . . . |
bibiking1:We can have constant power in Nigeria. It just depends on what our leaders want. It doesnt cost much, considering our resources and our large chunk of foreign reserve wasting away. With $10b we can have 20,000MW installed capacity within the next 4-5years. Mark you we also need to Stop shipping our Natural Gas to foreign countries. MEND should bomb the LNG plant. |
nex:Your estimate must have included the Nigerian factor!!!& SIEMENS Cost of generating electricty is calculated interms of MWh and that includes the fuel cost. MW is installed capacity. Based on the current financial climate, I can categorically tell you that it cost far less than that for installed capacity of 1000 MW. It cost about £250m to installed £350m power plant from design to commissioning of Gas Turbine Electricity Plant. The cost of generating will depend on the Taxes imposed, environmental levy and the cost of Natural Gas. |
So your problem is the millions illiterate? Do you know that some 100 - 150 years back your ancestor doesnt read and write? Literacy and Illetracy have no bearing in immigration in Africa. I cannot even comprehend the logic of your arguement that illeteracy should be the basis of movement within Africa. The idea of ECOWAS was well thought through. The problem of a society shouldnt eclipse its good and benefits. The countries we have in West Africa are colonial boundries and there have never bn official seperation btw many boader African countries. There are Yoruba in Benin Republic and some part of Togo. There are Hausa ppl in Cameroon, Ghana, Benin, Togo, Mali, there are Tiv in Cameroon. We cannot allow artificial political boundries to seperate ppl with common destiny. Imagine there is no ECOWAS and that every Nigerian that travel to Benin Republic, Ghana, Togo and Niger, Cameroon have to go to their Embassy to get a visa? Do you know how much these countrys will make. |
sjeezy8:Barack Obama said there were times they were on food stamps because they cannot afford to even buy the food to eat. This is a country that have a social welfare system, if they didnt have like Nigeria, Barack and his mother will have taken a bowl and stand by the road side and beg for food http://www.khnl.com/global/story.asp?S=7884655 |
The vast majority of Nigerian doesnt pay taxes. Unlike in other countries, even those that pay taxes they pay the same rate. Are wages and tax laws are screwed to cheat the government. Wages in Nigeria are broken into 2: Basic Salary and Allowances. The basic salary is usually about 10 - 15% of take home pay and that is what govt tax. The govt doesnt tax the so-called allowances which are also part of the take home. Documentation of West Africans in Nigeria is violation of treaty and laws that set up ECOWAS. Our boarders are open that is why Nigerians move freely in all African countries. I will categorically tell there are more Nigerians in any African country than there are foreigners in Nigeria. |
There is difference between voting right and actual voting. . . .untill the Civin movements of 50s and 60s there have bn widespread isenfranchisement of voting rights to black ppl in the US. That is what the Voting Right Acts of 1965 is all about. You can google that and read on any credible website. The UK is not isolated. Every European have the right to move in and out of UK anytime without the need for a visa or visitation permit. UKs boarder is not close to its neighbours. Is is open. China is 1/6 of the world population, highly dense population they need to let ppl out not move in some ppl. |
Amaka, you need to watch your language . . . . if this is how you speak in real world, you might oneday turn around and find non of ur friends. |
THE AMAKA:It is very important to discuss BEGGERS. Do you know that Barack Obama was on a system synonymous to begging at one point in his life? |
THE AMAKA:Im not new to Nairaland. You may not understand that sometimes what someone said will make an impact on how u view your life and the whole world. You should free ur mind of any prejudice because no one have monopoly of wisdom. Allow ppl to talk and if you hav nothing to contribue dont attack the personality of other ppl. |
sjeezy8:America as a state didnt wake up just found themselves everyone going to school. In US it is more recently that Black ppl are allowed to vote and aspire to achieve their potentials. It is more recently that women are allowed to vote and even aspire to their aspirations. The idea of a country isolating itself because it feels it have more potentials or resources than other nations is repugnant to human development. We as a black ppl cannot complain as being maltreated in foreign countries (Europe/China/Ameria) if we continue to view within ourselves as one Nation/Tribe is better and more superior than another. And we cannot succeed as Africa as a whole if we continue to shield ourselves from ourselves. We have to collectively work. |
THE AMAKA:We are not talking about ppl moving to Lagos to beg, we are talking about integration proper integration of West African Nation, similar to European Union both politically and economically. |
THE AMAKA:Tribalism, which sometime I prefer to call Nationalism is necessity for ppl that have identity. There is no problem for ppl to have tribalism. However Nepotism base on Tribalism is the problem. You should stop whinning, if you dont want to contribute to meaningful discuss you go and sleep and do whatever you want. |
sjeezy8:Incase you have forgotten America as a country is formed by many states, who by then have no western education. The idea of unity have nothing to do with going to school. Even in more develop society not everybody go to school. The idea of Economic Area is to develop and collective effort can yield result. India as a country is almost the same population as Africa and they are making giant strides towards development. Western education alone cannot bring development. There is need for cheap labour. Free movement of labour is central to development of any country. When you restrict movement of ppl, you restrict movement of skill |
sjeezy8:America as whole is half of a continent. And America is a conglomeration of many states that agreed to become a Union. Europe after many bitter wars have finally realised that a region united by political and economic centre is more strong that smaller tiny entity. That is the idea of ECOWAS. It is not about protecting meager resources. It is about harnessing the larger benefits of human and perharps material resouces. I know we are not America. We are Africans. If not because of Economic & political instability we would hav bn using the same currency by now just like |
