Guy, look up "Intellectual Property." You simply don't know what you are talking about.

All big companies maintain departments and lawyers that manage their portfolio in micro detail. Go mess around with a patent that remotely resembles anything that ExxonMobil has in its portfolio and see how long it takes to recieve a letter from their lawyers in English only Soyinka can deal with.
Patent litigations in the US cost hundreds of millions and ExxonMobil aren't so daft that they play games with that sort of money and become a cash cow for patent trolls.
Even Soyinka cannot deal with such English____

For me personally I think the gov't or science committee need to do something about this. There should be proper audit of his claims, and if found to be valid, then he need to be celebrated and those trying to ridicule his achievement need to be finally stopped. If however his claims are lies, then he need to be stopped.

The developed countries are not short of inventors or genius that they will celebrate and promote every fraudster. Your achievements and inventions speak for you.
CultureRe: Wodaabe Tribe & Fulani Tribe by Tsiya(m): 11:17am On Dec 05, 2010
The internet is there for you to search. It will give you idea of the Fulani as a cultural and ethnic group.

But generally Fulanis re found between the edge of the Sahara Desert and the tropical rain forest, sometimes called grasslands suitable for grazing their cattle. Many fulani still lead the normadic life and hardly have a permanent abode however the large majority have succumb to the pressure of globilisation and what we called hausanization. Many of us have been forced to abandon our native language, dressing and even way of life to accept the more dominant hausa language and culture. In Nigeria in particular, unless in the remote villages some states particulary Adamawa nd Taraba, the language is fast disappearing.

Politically, the Fulani were more dominant in the Northern Nigeria, but now because of assimilation of the minority ethnic groups into hausa, it will be difficult to claim which tribe is more dominant politically. For example, Sultan of Sokoto, who is supposed to be the cultural leader of the Northern Muslim states, is Fulani by heritage but a Hausa in reality. Reason being that neither he nor his father or grandfathers speak and understand the fulani language. That is why in Nigeria, they call us Hausa-Fulani, although against our wish.

Physically, the Fulani are generally tall, lanky and a little bit fairer. Some claim that they re decendents of Arab, just like Somalis and Ethopians. But to me that is bull shit. Humans of all races evolved from Africa (if you belief in evolution theory), and therefore there is no way Fulanis or Somalis or Ethopians will come from Arabs. It is all inferiority complex. If you belief God Created every human and gave it it race, colours according to wish, then it is even simpler to belief that God created Fulanis, Somalis and Ethopians this way and that is how he wanted them. Personally I hate it when I hear any freak calling me a descendant of Arabs or something like that bullshit.

As you have read, here and on many Nigerian Newspapers, Fulanis are not loved by your people. Everybody in the Southern part of Nigeria hate us for no reason. We are simply the most hated and attacked ethnic group in Nigeria and we are subject of the most heinous, xenophobic and racist attack.

While I have great respect for the Hadith and Sunnah, but for long I have started considering some of them to be fabrications, they not only contradict themselves and the qur'an, but also contradict common sense and no matter how hard they try to justify them, it is impossible. One is just forced to belief some of them and keep quite.

SapeleGuy:
Those poor people who were bombed, set ablaze and murdered  did not support John Togo, in fact they are dual victims of criminiality - that of Togo and JTF.

A nation should protect its citizens (I know this is an alien concept to you), not murder them - but should we really expect anymore from elites who willingly surrendered Bakassi without a whimper?

How can you offer sympathies in one breath then in the next sentence lionise soldiers who pump unarmed women and children full of bullets?

ndu_chucks look -By the way  there are two more 'criminals' pointing out environmental damage in Niger Delta. Go and call JTF to bomb their communities.
In Nigeria, there is little concern about the ordinary citizen. Killing 150 villagers doesn't mean anything to a large percentage of Nigerian.

Nigerians lack empathy otherwise how can the Nigerian army bomb a village? This is not the first time and it won't be the last the government will use army that are meant to protect the nation to kill innocent civilians.

As far as Nigerians are concerned, if it is not my village, then I don't care. If it is not my tribe/ethnic group, then serves them right.

The worrying aspect is that because the President of Niger Delta, the cyber rebels and war lords that used to attack the previous gov't are quite about this.

What is wrong is always wrong no matter who is the president and no matter who are the victims.

It depends on what culture you asking about. Fulani, Hausa, Kanuri, Tiv, Jukuns and other Northern Nigerian ethnic groups are the least you can find any positive information or response on this site. They are well under respresented, and generally people here have negative information about them, particulary the Hausa and the Fulani.

That is why the Nigerian Pidgin Primer was constructed in partnership with Mercy Christian Ministry international and Literacy and Evangelism international (LEI) Tulsa Oklahoma , After the construction of the primer and d pidgin alphabets, it was standardized at a workshop organized by Late Prof Kay Williamson at University of Ibadan, It was at that workshop that pidgin authorities standardized it, You can download d pidgin primer at

http://www.mercy-christian-ministry.org/nigerian-pidgin-language-primer.html
Standardization or Complication? Imagine market women trying to fix these things together to understand. I think the Professor missed a point here. The reason why people speak pidgin because it is difficult to speak and even to write to original english. Now instead of him to simplify it, he further complicated the language. I think written Hausa language is even far too simple to read and understand than what he has there

Furthermore, language speech and writing evolve over a long period of time, therefore it a smack of providence for a professor to just decide to standardise a language.

Wodaabe is a tribe within the Fulani group. The are called Borori in Northern Nigeria. They do not have any permanent dwelling. They move with their families from one location to another location. They do not associate with any ethnic group or settled fulani.

Fulani (as the Hausa called them) is not a tribe but an ethnic group with large number tribal units. So all borori are fulani, but not all fulani are borori

Onlytruth:
I came to the conclusion that Igbo population is uncounted in Nigeria during the last census under Obasanjo. I remember vividly that Ohanaeze Ndigbo tried its best to have ethnic information included in the census forms, Obasanjo stood his ground and rejected it! That was when I knew that Nigeria has something to hide about population distribution.

Personally, I don't believe Nigeria's population is up to 150 million. I think it would be around 100 million, and they are concentrated in major cities of southern Nigeria, and a few like Kano and Kaduna in the north. Abuja is populated by ALL Nigerians.

I also suspect that Jonathan must know something about Nigeria's real population, and that is why he is going forward with his plans to contest for presidency. If he thinks that northern Nigeria is as populated as we've been told, he would not have declared interest.

One of these days, the truth will come out.
You should also understand that states population is not ethnic population. There have always being large number Igbo population in the North, and if they are counted during cencus, they are counted as Nigerians not Hausa or Fulani or Igbo. Nigerians have mingled and resettled beyond what people in Nairaland want us to believe.

Anyway Jonathan is not contesting because he thinks he the population in the North is small, I think he is contesting because he thinks he can arm twist/cajole/bribe Governors and Nationals Assembly members to get PDP ticket for him. He is sure with a PDP ticket, then certainly he is a President. They know votes doesn't count. It is how many influential people you have that matters.

MShittu:
I don't think that there's ever been a 'hausa' president of Nigeria as such. I mean all of those Northern presidents were either Fulani, Gowon was a middle-belter and Babangida was Gwari!
I think you don't understand the polotics in the North. Gwari, Fulani, Kanuri, means little in the larger context of Northern politics. Military Dictators are not elected leaders and they mean little

PoliticsRe: Definition Of Middle Belt by Tsiya(m): 6:05pm On Nov 27, 2010
Middle belt means different things to different people. However, it is good to say that generally it refers to political aspiration of people who fairly identifiy themselves differently from the general Hausa people and have different culture and history. However, over the years it has metamophose to means Christain dominated areas. It is not about ethnic minorities or hausa or fulbe(fulani). In reality, other than Kano, Katsina, Zamfara and Sokoto, almost all northern states have ethnic minoraties. Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Taraba, Nassarawa, Jigawa, Yobe, Niger, Kebbi, Borno, all have large chunk of small small ethnic group, either bonded by Islam, or Hausa as a common language of communication.

Recently, I read somewhere where some people are trying to claim that some part of Borno should be Middle Belt. I mean how far North can the middle belt reach, untill it reach Niger.

Middle Belt ideology will remain an illusion in the mind of academics, politicians and few elites, but to the larger population, political boundaries within Nigeria will mean little to them, Middlebelt or no middle belt, the people will do business together, inter marry and most importantly, will all speak HAUSA

CultureRe: Ethnic Groups in Nigeria, Less Than 40 by Tsiya(m): 9:36pm On Nov 18, 2010
Fulbe (Fulani as they are called by Hausa) are not the same with Hausa. The only thing common between the 2 is the religion Islam. There are large Fulbe community in Guinea Conakry (of which they are the majority and Hausa doesn't exist there), Senegal (a very large proportion), Mali, Niger, Cameroon. These Fulani community exist without the hausa communities. The large majority of Fulani, particularly those in the North Eastern part of Nigeria (Gombe, Adamaw & Taraba) don't want to be called Hausa and the population of Fulani is more than that of indigenous Hausa people there.

For the sake of political convinience, the Hausa and Fulani can be grouped, but for classification purpose, they cannot be grouped. Their language is not even similar other than the common Islamic words or some few words borrowed from each other. A typical example is that in Fulani language there is no gender distinction but hausa have complete distinction.

auwal87:
But that doesn't mean the traditional system will be abolished or abandoned. It has to be refurbished just as you said Usman Dan Fodio tried to do. It is still possible to refurbish the system. We can have efficient traditional system that listens to the masses. Afterall they have nothing to do with decision making to affect the Talakawa. I can propose a system where the Traditional rulers remain active but with more power rested on the most competent courts.

Believe me, Tsiya, the proposed system is the best that will take Nigerians out of the present chaos, it doesn't have to be on our passports, but obviously, we will be seeing where foreign investors will be heading to when they come to invest in the country. I am very sure, North will prosper under this system, no cry. IT IS POSSIBLE.
Why should I believe you when the traditional rulers are heridetery. If you advocate a system where each town and village have their own traditional in the form a mayor, where they are elected and have limited years, with added responsibility then I will support. Retaining of traditional rulers in a democratic system is like running 2 parallel system. What will traditional rulers do that other representative systems of government will not do. The idea that somebody is a royalty and have special treatment is abhorrance to me.

Traditional rulers deserve no respect let alone a role in our future. The idea of monarchy is hideous, cruel, unjust, unfair and unislamic. Kings, Princes, Princesses, Sarki, Emir, Sarkin Yaki, Turakis, etc. strut our streets, mosques, churches, markets and schools with sheer arrogance and protected by army of uneducated and disadvantaged masses called Bayin Sarki and Fadawa. Slavery in any form is an antithesis of progress, equality, justice and fairness. We are not deluded and hence will not agree under any disguise to reintroduce despots in to a democratic system of government.

It takes wisdom to understand the institutionalisation of slavery and it takes courage to reject the institution of slavery upon oneself. Many people in northern Nigeria detest monarchy, hate kings and will be happy if the system disappears. The case of Izala sects, salafawa and shi’a in the north is a vivid reminder that we do not want to go back to the past. We want only a system where justice and equality is guaranteed by virtue of merit not birth.
PoliticsRe: The Good People Of North Are Not In Politics by Tsiya(m): 6:15pm On Oct 24, 2010
My fear, is creation of despots and dictators at regional level. However, I am a proponent of self determination and government and have always preferred regional government elected based on representative democracy.

However, the idea that traditional rulers are closer to the masses is a fallacy. Throughout the history of Hausaland, Sarakuna and Hakimai never represent the interest of the masses by their own interest. They are despots who consficate cows, land and wives of the masses. Untill the present day it still continues. Even today, I cannot see my Emir unless from a far away distance. Why? Because I am either a Talaka or Bawan Sarki. Where is justice, fairness and equality here? Anybody from the royal families in the north have 99% chance of getting better education and job because of the influence their family wield on the society. In the spirit of fairness, justice and equality, nobody will advocate the return of political relevance of these despots. Haba Mallam. These are the same despots that Usumanu dan Fodiyo faughts only to surface in another form, claiming legitimacy by being his descendants.

A system of representation why people will elect who their representative and directly vote on issues that concern them in the form of referendum is the preferred system of government and that is the system that The Prophet used. When there is misunderstanding, they cast lot before decision is made. Not some despote sitting on a Gold-plated Chair claiming to have all the knowledge, wisdom and interest of his people.

You need to rethink on this to get the support of the masses

I thought you were advocating for the Northern States to secede from the Federation of Nigeria, but now you are advocating a different tune.

For me personally I am looking for a system where Justice, Equity, Fairness and Prosperity will be guaranteed for all citizens irrespective of birth, language, religious affiliation or sects and status. The current system hasn't provided that, and what guarantee do we have that this your proposals will bring sanity and prosperity in Northern Nigeria. I detest the idea that traditional rulers should be part of our future system. They haven't proven to be honest, accountable and just in the past, present and neither in the future.

What is your philosophy? Are you just looking for political independence/partial independence or you are striving towards a just society?
