PoliticsRe: Hardtalk: Why Can't Nigerian Journalists Interview Like Stephen Sackur? by Tsiya(m): 5:29pm On Jan 23, 2010
ziga:
No matter how angry you are as a journalist, you shouldn't be prejudiced or talk down on anybody.

As a journalist, you are supposed to bring the facts from an emotion free point of view, just like a judge/lawyer.

You can still make all your points and be firm until your interviewee answers your question.

On the other hand, if you don't use tact in your approach, the interviewee can claim insult and avoid the question all together.
In the case of OJo, there was no insult or tact needed. The question was clear an unambigous for him to answer. All the points raised by the journalist are valid points.

He served under Abacha and I think as foreign minister. That government was illegal and he went round the world to defend same government that was killing Nigerians in Ogoni, arresting Nigerian politicians (across the whole country), some running away into exile, creating fake bomb plots all in the name to remain in power.

He was PDP parrot during OBJ when they were trying to extend into 3rd term and they worked hard for that but it failed. During that time he used every available opportunity to defend OBJ and the 3rd term agenda.

Now he is a foreign minister again and he claimed he hasn't spoken to the president for the past 60 days. Then who is he representing. The policies of the elected present or he is representing himself.

There is need to vet our politicians. If a person have questionable moral judgement why on earth should he represent your interest outside the country? Mr Ojo is old enough to be my grandfather, but I do not owe my life, nor the life of my family to him. Therefore if he is going to represent my interest as a Nigerian, he have to answer any question directed about his work or personal life and also his judgement.

How on earth will this clown represent our interest in the security council?
PoliticsRe: Ojo Maduekwe Talking Rubbish @ Un Press Conference by Tsiya(m): 5:04pm On Jan 23, 2010
ElRazur:
I am struggling to understand how one's tone can automatically translate as insult. huh Perhaps those who know better than me can explain. Again, there is nothing arrogant about his way. He is passionate and he put that in his questions. Sorry, but what is wrong with that?

If more journalist have the same approach as this guy, we will have a better media over all.
I think it boils down to the fact that our leaders consider any serious question like this one, from a Nigerian as insult. They prefer journalist that will ask them question like the PointBlank on NTA where they will be asking them how many degrees they have and how many position they hold before this one. If that same question was asked by a foreigner not a Nigerian, Mr Ojo will not blab his mouth in that manner. It is so embarassing the guy is looking for MOPOL to drag the journalist out of the press conference
PoliticsRe: Ojo Maduekwe Talking Rubbish @ Un Press Conference by Tsiya(m): 4:57pm On Jan 23, 2010
There is nothing tribalistic here it is just the fact that it has become our culture not to question the morality behind every act of our elders. They believe in that they are infalliable. To be honest, Ojo Madueke have no moral authority to serve under any civilian/democratic government in Nigeria after serving under Abacha, whom all Nigerians irrespective of region will rightly agree that was not a just a good head of state.

Mr Ojo have shown to the whole world what a clown he is, and what clowns and brutal dictators we have as our democratic leaders. Imagine a Minister exchanging verbal insults with a Journalist in a foreign country.

ziga:
The emotional state of mind is nothing but trouble.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not trying to defend Mr. Minister, but if we keep allowing our emotions to rule us in Naija, we will always be tribalistic and we will only  get things like the jos crisis.
PoliticsRe: Ojo Maduekwe Talking Rubbish @ Un Press Conference by Tsiya(m): 4:10pm On Jan 23, 2010
It seems this guy do not have international experience or perharps whenever he watches television of interview of world leaders, he just watches the act not registering in his mind what is going.

This is in fact not even a confrontational question. Prime Ministers and President of the world are heckled and asked more damming question than this and still they do not threaten somebody. This guy brought his area boy mentality to the UN.

Sun of god:
A major 'catastrophe' will kill blacks as well as whites - so that's not an option.

However, this if this global warming scam could actually be brought into such a reality where upon people of white skin due to their skins weakness against Ultra Violet radiation naturally become extinct from this earth.

This could theoretically happen through cancers etc as their skin lacks melanin and therefore a natural defence against the effects of Ultra Viloet light?
But you know those devils will invent some vaccine to jab themselves with melanine at the birth. They can do that.

This golden age parenthood psycologist and therapist have succeeding in infesting our brain that Dads really matter in children lives. Dads are just monsters that scares the shit out of us. Sorry Dad. I read recently in UK they are even going to introduce ante-natal classes for prospective Dads.
FamilyRe: Must A Man Share The Same Bedroom With The Wife? by Tsiya(m): 11:48pm On Jan 20, 2010
Actually, I am thinking in that line too. Imagine if you have wife and she want to sleep and you are not in the mood of sleeping. You want to read or just like I used to do, scatter my old school books and papers and read them all over.

Living with someone in the same room can be very inconvinient, even if that person is your wife.

Personally to me, couples have every right to check each others mobile phones, letters and so on unless there is no trust in the marriage to the extend you want to hide things away from each other.

Though as men, we are more guilty of this

PoliticsRe: Why Are All The Black Nations On Earth Poor? by Tsiya(m): 10:56pm On Jan 20, 2010
I think, I am not sure, the poster is trying to point towards the fact that most countries populated by black people have very low standard of living, lack basic health care and sanitation in comparison to other countries populated by non black people.

Let us not be over reactionary here but rather look at his comments in a rational way
PoliticsRe: More Crisis In Jos Today by Tsiya(m): 10:31pm On Jan 19, 2010
the most annoying thing, they know that Jos is prone to such crises and they do not have enough soilders and police on ground. But they will set up JTF in the Niger Delta, armed with the most sophisticated weapons and helicopters to protect some greedy oil company workers and oil company pipelines. There is no single Helicopter in the City. The amount of wealth, resources lost is unimaginable. People lost their lives, properties. Some become crippled physically, mentally and economically.
PoliticsRe: More Crisis In Jos Today by Tsiya(m): 10:19pm On Jan 19, 2010
Why such crises wont occur again?
This is the only country where masscares and genocides are traeted like normal riots and vandalism. The people in power have never been caught in this crises. Ever since 2001 I have never heard where a minister, senator or reps (even state legislators) as victims of such riots. It is the poor man that is left to his judgement.

I am sick and tired of this thing. It pains me to hear everytime there is crises in Nigeria, Jos in Particular

Doe sit not bother you that a country like Nigeria with no leadership could not do anything yet Lagos struggled to do something meaning that lagos state is managed better than the republic of Nigeria.
It is highly commendable that Lagos state is trying to be humanitarian.

However, if we look at it closely, the Governor of a state have no legal authority to allocate money without appropration from the State assembly. This is a brazen abuse of power and looting.

ElRazur:
Once you know the background, it is funny. grin

Beaf basically advocated for Nigeria offering help to Haiti, I challenged the notion that while Nigerians as an individual can offer help, it will be unwise for Nigeria as a nation to offer help. I asked him to specify what kind of help Nigeria should offer that cannot be of use to people at home. So far, he is unable to answer.

It may be worth mentioning that he posted the thread in question due to the fact that Senegal offered help and he feels because we are so called "Giant" of Africa, we should do the same - A very useless logic. grin

So yeah, whenever he posted any thread showing that Nigeria have issues, I respond by saying, let us ignore our issues and concentrate on another nation. grin
yeh, yeh, I saw it.

But then it is not everything you have to comment. When you do not agree with something you keep quiet, after all yours or his opinion is not a policy

PoliticsRe: Is It Possible For Hausa People To Advance ? by Tsiya(m): 11:47pm On Jan 18, 2010
In the first place I didn't want to response to this thread, being not a Hausa, only having regional and political affiliation with the people that are called Hausa, untill I discovered the Poster himself seems to be from the same region with the Hausa people, and which I am sure, he speaks Hausa more fluently than he speaks his" Mother Tongue".

Having said that, with all due respect to the poster, I do not think, any person from Africa, black Africa, have the guts to open his mouths and say the that Hausa people will never advance, let alone a person who shares backyard with the Hausa people. While an average educated Nigerian, considers such comments, if made by a white man or an Asian as racist, he sees them as the truth nothing but the truth, when they think and say such to thinks about a Hausa man.

Personally I dont subscribe to superiority of race, let a lone superiority of tribal affliation, but it is a norm here, and if a person is not careful, if he has slight emotional attachment to his ethnic nationality, he will be drawn into the arguement.

To the Poster, your thoughts, understanding and your discription, will not matter in big scheme of things. Instead of dwelling with hatred, you should direct your passion towards seeing what should be done about the general problem afflicting the Nation.

Certainly a lot of things need to be done in Nigeria to curtail to rampant violence.
FamilyRe: My Wife Said I Should Not Be Massaged By A Female Physiotherapist by Tsiya(m): 10:48pm On Jan 15, 2010
This is a simple case. If it is just massage why not buy the oil and other stuff that are needed for the massage so that she will do it for you. Afterall that is also romance and you can also do it to her and it will be part of your romance cycle. I am even suprise to hear that as married couple you people do no massage yourself untill the strain get out of hand. Haba all the wahala you need regular massage.

Seriously, she is right. Massage is not a medical help it is for those that lack partners.

But then I will prefer a woman to a man when it come to massage. In this world, there are very weird people and you will not know whether a guy will fantasizing you and checking out your butts while massaging you.
Foreign AffairsRe: Saudi Throws Kenyan Maid Out Of Top Floor Window by Tsiya(m): 7:23pm On Jan 15, 2010
Honestly, there is need for awareness of modern day slavery. Not only are Nigerians and Africans in general being freight all over the globe for slavery, but even in Nigeria/Africa we subject our people to the same cruelty. It is a common place in every rich man house to find house girl. A minor who is suppose to be in school but turned into a slave and sex-slave by her master or master's children.

I heard Sharia, Dictatorship et al are all cheaper. Perhaps you will like us to embrace that? grin
Sharia is a legal system not a political system

Democray is not expensive unless you want to make the principal actors rich. In the case of Nigeria, the fastest root to become rich is kidnapping, then followed by holding a political position. And if it is Nigeria, whatever the political system we have, we aint gonna see much of the money.

Is there any biblical injuction that marriages must be ordained by a Pastor? If yes, and if you are believer then it is a fornication, other wise, I don't think it is a fornication.

White wedding? So the traditional one is black wedding? Why are we shackled to undefined cultures?

No2Atheism:
- Yes I am concerned about Kingship . . . cus Hausa-Fulani have no business in Ilorin . .  .talkless of them being rulers in Ilorin or Kwara for that matter.

- It is this same Kingship that Hausa - Fulani are using to oppress my people (Yoruba people) in Ilorin . . . hence it is my responsibility to the expose the lies right from the top . . . where it matters most.

- No he does not

- No he is not a native . . . . .cus he did not become the Emir as someone trying to assimilate into the Yoruba culture . . . instead he became the Emir because Hausa-Fulani betrayed Afonja and stole Ilorin from Afonja . . . hence he is in Ilorin because Hausa-Fulani are trying to hold on to stolen property.

- By your logic then that means . . . Europeans can also claim to natives of the middle east since some of them have been there for centuries . . . (then why are muslims fighting against europeans in the middle east) . . .can u know see how weak your conclusion really is.

- By your logic then it means that White Americans can also claim to be Native Americans since they have been there for at least 400years . . .

Do you now see how ridiculous your statement sounds . . .
We all know that the Middle east/European is all about religious identity not settlement or cultural, to which in this case we are not arguing about it.

The case of Americans and Native Americas is even more ridiculous here. Have you ever seen native Americans asking the white Americans to pack and leave their country? And even if they do, certainly they will not leave, it will just be a fantasy.

Now, I understand where you are driving to, but you will get to no where. Better be realistic. The world will not go into a reverse gear . . . .

- Accept my apologies then . . . i was initially seeing u as someone else . . .

- Hence it is save to say that you are basically trying to whitewash history on behalf of the Hausa-Fulani . . . hence your statements like:

Past cannot be changed . . .
Hausa-Fulani did not steal Ilorin . . .

Bottom line is that : Truth would always prevail . . .Hausa-Fulani dominance of ilorin and Nigeria is based on false-hood and connivance with the West . . . hence as far as I am concerned the earlier the truth is revealed the better . . . for other members of Nigeria.

The only reason Hausa-Fulani as still having a say in Ilorin is because of Northern domination of Nigeira. . . I suspect that the not long after Nigeria splits up . . .Yorubas of Ilorin would reclaim back the Kingship of that town from the Hausa-Fulani families that stole it from them in the first place.

The reality is that Yorubas has little in common with Hausas in terms of culture apart from colour of our skin . . . hence why we were at war before the coming of the british . . .
I didn't know that what you care about is just the KingShip.

I was thinking we are trying to move towards future, where equality and justicie should prevail. And no man, shall by virtue of his birth be considered superior to other man.

The current emir of Ilorin is not hausa, cos he neither speak the language or understand the language and I thought after over a century of being in tha place, he deserve to be called a native of that land.

And personally I do not care if he is remove and replaced with a Yoruba man after all, they do not contribute to development rather they contribute to the corruption of the system

- It is stealing . . . cus Afonja did not give it to Hausa Fulani . . . instead it was stolen from him via deceit . . .

- Stealing is stealing whether it happened in 10 AD or it happened in 2000 BC or 2010 AD . . . stealing has not changed in definition.

- Can you please stop trying to white wash history . . .its starting to sound irritating . . .

- Hence should it be safe for me to assume that you are an Hausa-Fulani . . . seeing that you are doing your best to explain away the fact that Ilorin was stolen from Afonja . . . Ilorin was not won in a war against Yorubas . . . Ilorin was stolen from the Afonjas as an act of betray . . . considering that the Afonjas had already cut themselve off from other Yorubas.

- That you are trying to prop up Sokoto Caliphate just goes to show that you are probably an Hausa-Fulani yourself.

- Do you even know that Fulanis also used the same tactics of taken over Hausa land . . .hence Emirs are not really Kings  . . . instead Emirs are mere religious leaders . . . used to lord it over the Hausas . . .

- Hausas were the ones who owned the land . . . . .before the maruading islamic armies of Usman dan Fodio came about . . .

- Do you know that Hausa kings were overthrown by the Fulani . . .
I didn't say they were invaded. I said that is what the political system permitted that time.

I don't think there is point in arguing with you, if you think you want to use your common sense and revisit the history. You cannot undo the action of the pass, but you can forge ahead. If you look at the human history all over the world it constitute of change in society as a result of either change in aliegience or change occupation. The Affonjas decided to give their allegience to the dominating power in the region and who by the way, are already on their boarder.

Iam not trying to be sentimental here, neither am I saying the actions of the past is the best. But people shouldn't get emotional over the action of the past. We have no power to undo history, no matter how you define it, stealing, deciete, occopation, 419, or whatever, it was done being in the best interest of the people of that time. Do not forget that those years, where the years of conquers and counter conquers, slave raiding and counter slave raiding. History will not tell us today why the Afonjas cut of with their kinsmen, history can only speculate since no writen account was left.

Is there a particular human society you know of which doesnt have myths and folklores? huh

enlighten us since I've never heard of any.

Of course people will look the same to an outsider, but all that means is the outsider isnt familiar with the territory.

Its like saying all whites look the same or all Asians look the same, to a non-white or non-Asian
Well every society has, but the way you people are arguing using that folklore as a proof doesn't make sense. Historias that always try to piece history of a community try to differenciate between the reality and myths.

You guys you all look alike.

When I went to the NYSC at the CAMP, Nigerians have to introduce themselves and where they come from, especially those that do not have tribal name as first name.
coper 1"Where are you from" , Coper 2 "Iam from Auchi" Coper 1 "that is Edo now, I thought you are from Cross Rivers" Coper 2 "God Forbid, do I look like them" Coper 3 "Look at this guy, na ma state you de call God Forbid"

When I looked at them, they all look alike and they cannot tell each by just looking at their faces. Common Stop wasting your times. You all look alike. Next time look at the next Nigerian neighbour you have, you cannot say from which state he or she is, you have to ask, unless she have a tribal name.
