Nairaland / General / Re: My Stammering Issue Is Depressing Me by tsmack: 1:43pm On Dec 21, 2018 |
Drock49: I have good news for you. Background: I have been stammering for the past 40years. I can still remember my neighbors laughing at me when i was 3years old because i wasn't as fluent as my younger cousin. But that's all part of what makes me me. With my stammering I got a job with one of the top 4 audit firms, left to join a top oil servicing company. That's to say I was interviewed, passed the interview, and now working effectively with people. I am a c-suit manager. The background is to encourage you that your stammering/ stuttering cannot limit you if you don't allow it to. My suggestions on how to manage your stuttering These are the few ways i have learnt to manage the stuttering: 1. Have a good idea of what you want to say before you say it 2. Deliberately start speaking slowly - starting from the very first syllable. If you don't feel weird and uncomfortable doing this, then you are not doing it well 3. Carefully enunciate each syllable of every word you speak i.e. make every part of the word distinct e.g. po-pu-lar. 4. Try to have even amount of space between each word and syllable e.g. "po-pu-lar" not "po......pular" 4. Learn to breath while speaking These are the exercises I suggest a. Do at least four 2minutes audio recording of yourself everyday talking about different things. Then listen to the recordings and do the needed adjustments b. Do at least five 1minute video recordings of you trying to market or convince people to buy a product or something. Observe your facial expressions and correct as required. This should be done for the next 60days until it becomes a part of you. The sky is the limit (and still remember to pray to God to order your steps). All the best 1 Like |

The problem with most Nigerians is that we thrive on "hear say". Not on fact! How can a 2011 camry be faster than a 2013 accord?! Somethings are just not comprehensible! Op, see a very brief comparison of the two cars below 1 Like

Properties / How To Ventilate A House by tsmack: 1:09pm On Apr 20, 2016 |
Hello guys, Can anyone suggest ways i can ventilate a house in Lagos. For example, if you have one of these terrace apartments (duplexes or flats) where you have only one window per room (bedroom and living room hence no cross-ventilation), is it possible to create some sort of mechanical ventilation system. E.g. a system that ensures that there is constant flow of air into the apartment - fresh air flows in and hot air flows out. I know they use a combination of air extractors and cooling system in the UK. I was wondering if any one can suggest a ventilation system that will achieve the above in Lagos yet use minimal or no electricity. |
Politics / Re: Economic Blackmail By Foreigners And Their Protegees by tsmack: 3:27pm On Mar 29, 2016 |
This is exactly why they say half knowledge is bad. Thanks Grandstar for your comments. The author definitly needs to do a lot more studying. Allow me use the most simple of all the issues - i.e. Gas flaring. The Nigerian government wants Oil Producing Companies (OPCs) to stop flaring gases and to redirect the gas to more useful purposes. They then implemented a law that penalises any OPC who continues to flare gas. While the idea is generally a fantastic one, "in my opinion", it is tantamount to telling the owners of MrBiggs franchise to start recycling their waste simply because they generate so much waste. Waste recycling is a totally different type of business! (a) In the same vein, Gas flaring is different type of business model with its own perculiarityies and value chain. It will therefore not be easy for an OPC to delve into it just because a government instructs them to. Especially when our government have been known to be very unstable when it comes to implementing policies that encourage such ventures. (b) Also, it is an established fact that the equipments needed to redirect and convert the flared gases costs a fortune. Any business man will compare whether it pays to continue paying fines or invest in a white elephant project. Your guess is as good as mine The question is now why you think the OPCs gas flaring is an attempt to sabotage the Nigerian economy? Wierd!!! It would have made more sense if you suggested more ways the Federal Government can encourage more investors (Nigerians or otherwise) to invest in the Gas industry (anywhere on the value chain will do). 1 Like |

Family / Re: TWO Years In Marriage!!! The Feeling, The Realization And Surprise. by tsmack: 4:25pm On Oct 21, 2014 |
If baffles me when unmarried men think they know more than married men in marriage matters. I strongly suggest that all unmarried men should learn to keep their opinion to themselves on marriage matters until they have acquired real life marriage experience. Marriage is an institution that you never truly know until you go into it yourself. Its better to just read and learn from those who have passed through tough experiences and survived it. Not to start commenting on what you have no clue about. DukeNija: 2 Likes 1 Share |

You look for every opportunity to scream tribalism. If the Media reports a case, it is tribalism If the Media does not report a case, it is tribalism Why can't we present our argument in clear and concise terms? Orishirishi!!! The question is who is to blame? i. The journalists who give noise makers like these audience or the publishers who publish them for lack of better content ii. The social media that ensures that some nonsense (from people who have no value to add) makes news iii. The youths who only celebrate noise makers and people with money (irrespective of whether they are thieves and or people with questionable character) iv. The Oil Companies who continue to dish out millions of Naira to people like these (for the sake of peace) instead of directing the money towards projects with lasting social and economic impact v. or The Nigerian Government who lacks the will to fight corruption and try people like this for treason 39 Likes |

It citizens cannot afford to live in any of those “for show” houses. Did you ask yourself why there is no sign of life in any of those estates? Besides, Lagos is half the population of Angola crampled in 7% of Angolan land. i'm sure you agree thats a major strain on resources. *we all know that the Nigerian population is debatable, so i dont expect any intelligent person to overflog that dead horse* 4 Likes |

Nigeria is the only country where her citizens go online to rubbish themselves, their leaders, and their nation. Little wonder why other countries treat us like trash! What is truly appalling is the level of ignorance displayed by the so called leaders of tomorrow. Blatant display of ignorance seems to be bliss on Nairaland. I suggest you look up the standard of living in Angola and the living conditions of its citizens (may be that will make you appreciate your country better). 4 Likes |

I truly fear for this nation! Despite the amount of time some people spend on the internet, they still spew their ignorance (with pride) all over the place. And these are supposed to be the leaders of tomorrow? You should at least do yourself the justice of googling up Harvard before embarrassing your family and country on the social media. In case you don’t know, Harvard is not about money. It is about ability! You need to prove BEYOND REASONABLE DOUBT that you belong to the top strata of achievers - irrespective of your race and age - before you are accepted into the school. Besides, most people use STUDENT LOANS to fund their studies. It is almost automatic. Harvard is NEVER about money! Ngozi's children should be celebrated because gaining admission into such a school is an achievement on its own. Why do you think some Companies only employ graduates from Harvard? Or have you ever heard of an Harvard graduate being “unwillingly” jobless? I don’t think it’s possible! Invest in your life by spending time reading about value adding stuff. You don’t have to play the internet idiot; leave that to the others. God bless Nigeria! 95 Likes |

Laughing in pain! The Nigerian Government reminds me of the story of Pharaoh. Specifically, the part when God hardened Pharaoh’ heart and blinded him from reason. Our leaders are blind to the way forward. They are only making all sorts of blind suggestions which have no ground breaking positive implications for the future. We all know that our core problem in Nigeria is INEFFICIENCY, WASTEFULNESS and CORRUPTION. And the people in power are at the heart of these problems. The situation is soo bad that any attempt to improve the already efficient private sector will be killed by the INEFFICIENCIES, WASTEFULNESS, and CORRUPTION of Government. In fact, the corruption of the government is already killing the private sector. Businesses are struggling. Cost of manufacturing in Nigeria now exceeds cost of importing goods (even with the high import duty rates). We don’t produce nor manufacture anything anymore… other than oil… the black curse. Now, they are suggesting we frustrate the Hen that lays the golden eggs. Why kill the hen that lays the golden eggs? Why not first of all take care of the vultures and hawks before exposing the Hen? Why not clear the weeds and thorns before pruning the flowers? |

Most of the comments above have been on point. I will however look at it from a different perspective. Did anybody notice that the poster sounds childish and immature? What did she do to make the guy want to walk out in the first place? How was she blocking him from leaving the house? Was she loud, was she bragging, was she "all up in his face"? And then, she decided to run out of the house because the guy pushed her? Where was she running to? The police station?! Very laughable action indeed!!! What actually shocked me was her eagerness to get in touch with his family. She apparently doesnt know anything about conflict resolution in a family. She sounds like those types of girls who every tom, dick, and harry knows her business. She has a lot of growing up to do if she is truly getting married in a few months. A lot! All the actions she said she took in her comment have all been wrong. I wish her all the best though! * know your God, know yourself, & know your partner * |

I find this tread interesting. Deinde Fernandez has always operated under the radar. The general public (you all know yourselves ) didn’t know anything about him before and after the ovation article other than the divorce proceedings. The guy appears to be a smooth, smart and well connected operator. He obviously has/had the right connections in oil rich countries of the world. The guy no need subsidy. I wonder how many more Nigerians like him are out there. Lesson learnt - it isn’t about the noise. It is all about the result. 1 Like |

But i very much identify with his fight. Arik should sued for damages. And each person shld sue differently. |

Who knows the basis for the ban? Is it because they supported Omojuwa or where they also robbed on Arik airline? These type of drama is unique to our environment. Anyway, the company just signed its death warrant. They just shot their PR kite down. And whether we like it or not, bad PR will always hunt you in future. 1 Like |

@Sunbellar Do you take ur car to work everyday? If yes, how long do u spend in traffic? These analysis, if the estimates are indeed fairly accurate, shows that some car makes are indeed more fuel economical than others i.e. if indeed Eminemkayc spends N2,800 fuel per week from Berger to VI everymorning, then the car can do N2,800 per month if he stays in Ikoyi (these offcourse are just estimates, but indeed eye opening) |
