PDP is a party of lies and deceit. A party that shared free millions with its leadership while the voters are being cajoled to vote with no assurance of any benefit
This is the same party that can't complete its national office in Abuja for 22years but shares money freely within the deadly caucus of its leadership.
One thing Nigerians must not forget is that the pains of today are the result of the waste of yesterday.
Nigeria is at a cross road with the last line of life and death. That is why the 2023 election should be evaluated critically by the electorate. Nigeria should vote for track records, competency, legacy projects, and administrative skill and not ethnic, religion or class consideration.
Let our campaign based on the competent of our candidate and not on weakness of the opponents |

Politics › Re: Why It Makes Sense To Remove Import Restrictions Like Obi Said. by Ttalk: 10:31am On Oct 08, 2022 |
Vote4Obi: You're getting it all wrong. What do you think is the major reason for forex scarcity in Nigeria? Simple, due to lack of exports!
I don't think Peter Obi will implement the removal of import restrictions as his first policy on assuming office. From what he stated last time about oil producing areas, he obviously has plans to stop oil theft and ensure Nigeria maximizes its full oil production and exports. Once our oil exports return to normal like anything close to 2mbpd, pressure on dollar will reduce since we will be able to shore up our reserves. Importation of refined petroleum takes a huge portion of our forex, hopefully Dangote refinery will come on stream soon.
Are you aware that when ships bring imports, they would also want to take exports to avoid running at a loss? So, when more ships are coming to Nigeria, it would make our exports cheaper too.
Again, how is mere rhetoric on import restrictions by government helped? Has it stopped those goods from entering Nigeria? No! Have it stopped importers from seeking forex from the black market to import them? No! That policy is only helping the economy of Togo and Benin republic! It's only helping corrupt customs personnel to enrich themselves at the expense of Nigerians. Seriously I didn't finish reading what you wrote the moment you said Nigeria will increase oil production.. This week OPEC championed the cut of Oil, I don't think Nigeria q Quota will be up 2000mpd and you are saying revenue from oil will shore up our reserve and makes us have enough forex which will then translate to naira appreciation. Even if our production capacity increases in oil, it won't translate to more money because quota restriction wouldn't allow the country sell more than her allocation. So where is the return on the investment in the oil sector? Nigeria is in a serious trouble and drastic and urgent measure is needed to make us survive the economic tsunami that is about to engulf the entire nation just because of our past lazy and import oriented mindset that is taking the country into economic abyss. Seriously, I don't think it's worth my time debating with you on this subject. It's either you are just defending Obi's comment based on tribal sentiment you plain ignorant about the implication of Obi's container economic theory |

OfficialAPCNig: The problem is that most of you people criticizing this move are illiterate. The funniest thing is, they are the same group that were crying to Buhari to open the borders.
Not what changed?
I think it's because, the policy is coming from a man they love to hate.
But the truth is, every Economist that knows his onions will tell you that one of the ways of the boost local production is to allow local producers to compete with foreign goods.
Economic liberalization is the only way you can make an economy grow.
When OBJ wanted to remove restriction on telcom, your ancestors' of those criticizing Obi's policy today were crying, rallying and disturbing public peace, but today, we now have a stronger telcom sector.
What happened when Buhari closed the border against foreign foods?
Did it make farmers richer? No
Did it bring down the cost of food? No
It only made us worse off. This should show you that you don't grow your economy by pampering local producers. It makes them exploitative and wicked.
In fact, USA has a law against local monopoly called the anti-trust law. Someone like Dangote cannot be the sole producer of cements in USA.
He will go to jail if he tries such moves.
How much is a bag of cement today?
Once you liberalize the economy and allow people bring in cheaper alternatives, Dangote will sit up. He will invest in R& which will make the cost of producing cement locally more cheaper.
He will also invest more in customer service, improving customer satisfaction.
Do you know why banks and Telcoms offer the highest level of customer services in this country?
Because you have alternatives and switching to a new provider is just seamless.
As an Economist and an Igbo man, I support Peter Obi quest to liberalize the economy for economic growth.
With this move:
1. The cost of food will go down, bringing down inflation
2. Local producers will sit up and stop depending on the govt to babysit them
3. Local producers will invest more in R& to produce goods that will compete favorably with the imported ones
4. Consumers will become sovereigns again (consumer sovereignty will reign supreme)
5. Businesses will no longer compete on price level, but on the level of customer service delivery, making an average Nigerian consumers more satisfied
6. Liberalization will grow our export and foreign by improving our production capacity, enabling our local producers to explore external markets for their goods
7. Liberalization will give me options and choices, giving more power to consumer than producers.
8. Liberalization will grow the local and export economy
I support Peter Obi's Economic and Monetary plans for Nigeria. I'll vote for him and the Labour Party at the Federal level and APC at the state level.
We rise!!! World over manufacturers are protected. That is why US spent million of dollar bailing out its ailing companies. Nigeria too bailed out bank so to ensure the system is liquid during Jonathan. Once you liberalize the economy and allow people bring in cheaper alternatives, Dangote will sit up. He will invest in R& which will make the cost of producing cement locally more cheaper
Why not use same resources you want to use to import to manufacture locally since the aim is to break Dangote's monopoly? Tell me from which Commerce textbook you copied this jargon. Because Nursery books on Commerce would give better judgement on the subject than this |
Politics › Re: Why It Makes Sense To Remove Import Restrictions Like Obi Said. by Ttalk: 9:57am On Oct 08, 2022 |
Vote4Obi: You're right. Some of those criticizing that great idea of Obi are either ignorant or just plainly mischievous.
Virtually all the items that are prohibited by government are found in the shops and markets all over Nigeria. So, who is fooling who? They ban items with mere rhetoric only for smugglers to import them into Cotonou ports, and smuggle them through our porous borders into Nigeria. When some of them are caught by immigration or custom, they either collect bribe and set them free . or they seize the goods and sell them while a small percentage is burnt for media show.
By removing import restrictions, revenue from our ports will skyrocket since there won't be need anymore to import through neighboring countries. Inflation will reduce and purchasing power of Nigerians will rise.
Even though it has its own shortcomings but the advantages are many. Above all the import restrictions doesn't restrict anything since those goods still find their way into Nigeria albeit at a much higher cost without benefit to government or the people. Can you tell us where we would see forex to import? Currently with restriction Nigeria doesn't have enough forex even after depletion of our reserves, what happens when demand for forex increases as result of removal of restrictions.? What is the value of increase in import tax compared to scarcity of forex? Are the youths supporting this killer idea truly Nigerian youth? Will these sets of people become leaders in year to come? |
Politics › Re: Why It Makes Sense To Remove Import Restrictions Like Obi Said. by Ttalk: 9:36am On Oct 08, 2022 |
femicyrus: I understand your bias Igbo people are traders affected by import restrictions while educated Yoruba are owners of manufacturing industries with lots of employed Nigerians. The Hausa are the farmers that produces the raw materials. An Igbo man because of the obvious inflation and hunger wants everything else to crash in favour of his business. I'll keep saying it that a vote for obi is a vote for disaster. The north is already aware hence the PDP atiku joker See the funny dimension you insert into the conversation. True, the pain of today was the lavishness of yesterday. We took the easy way and ended up with a lazy population that would cut corners in achieving greatness, that's why Obi's killer economic plan appears like jollof rice and stew to some youth whose lives are in danger if such a part is followed. Seun asked a question that where are we going to get forex to import those items and the childish reply that where have we been getting the current forex we are using exposed the guy as a quack economic analyzer. Nigeria is experiencing a huge forex deficit despite the depletion of our reserves yet a self-acclaimed economist does not know that the party is over. Even Obi as president cannot and I repeat remove restrictions on essential items this country produces and not see a total collapse of the naira. As it is the only option left for the country is to continue to borrow to build infrastructure, especially in the areas of power and security. Reduce lending rate and strengthen our legal system so the dying manufacturing and production sector can improve. Removing restrictions on imports is an option that is not well thought out. In the days coming let's watch out for the opinions of experts like Rewane and other investors and business moguls on the implication of Peter Obi's senseless opinion |

It's a given that I've never been a proponent of APC's style of governance and leadership, but you see El-rufai of Kaduna, Babagana Zulum of Borno, Sanwo-olu of Lagos and Umahi of Ebonyi state...these are APC Governors who have done well in their respective states, challenges irrespective.
We have to understand that there isn't a state in Nigeria that is without its shortfalls but that shouldn't erode the gains made. And just to set your mind straight, it was Ganduje of Kano state who was caught on video stuffing dollars in his agbada, not el-rufai. JoeNL22: That is the stat they will tell you. The best way to know if your economy is strong is through your currency. Go and check Nigerian currency to other nations. You will see that the economy is very bad under Buhari. The economy is -ve, it is not about making money in Nigeria again. The Hyper-inflation will take all the profits made. At the end of the day. What you use 900 naira to buy a piece of clothing that's now 3,500 seven years later. And you tell me Nigeria is a leading economy? They have deceived you, people. Don't think you sound intelligent with your argument here, rather it shows your poor understanding of how the economy of a nation work. Nigeria's economy is in ruin because of over-dependent importation. Peter and Tunde will rather import what they can produce if there are no restrictions because of the quick returns they will get. That type of economy only favors individuals but it kills the country. Developing a manufacturing base is not a day's work, the level of knowledge and advancement Nigerians have gained due to the banned on the importation of some basic agricultural products cannot be overemphasized. It is not too late to key into any of these opportunities and position yourself for the benefit when the sector matures. It is very illogical for Peter Obi who want to move the country from consumption to production be talking about removing import restriction, when such a move only encourages consumption and discourage manufacturing. Please look at this issue objectively because there is none of the candidates ( Obi inclusive) that can afford to remove restrictions on imports of certain goods as the country is struggling with limited forex where our balance of trade is negative. Presently our import exceeds export that is why there is high and increasing exchange rate. Despite CBN intervention using our reserves, the country continue to witness poor value of Naira. Develop the infrastructure with emphasis on power, reduce the lending rate and improve on security, also strengthen our legal system and see our production base surge. Our exportation capacity will solve the problem of naira devaluation and not reliance on diaspora remittance to strengthen our currency |

In all sincerity Atiku has proven that all what Obasanjo said about him in his book " My Watch" is right. Atiku lacks integrity and doesn't stand for anything good other than his scheme to hijack power.
Obasanjo on Atiku:
"What I did not know, which came out glaringly later, was his parental background which was somewhat shadowy, his propensity to corruption, his tendency to disloyalty, his inability to say and stick to the truth all the time,a propensity for poor judgment, his belief and reliance on marabouts , his lack of transparency, his trust in money to buy his way out on all issues and his readiness to sacrifice morality, integrity, propriety truth and national interest for self and selfish interest"
