Christianity EtcRe: Hello Ladies, How Would You Love To Marry Your Rapist? The Bible Says So. by ttalks(m): 12:49am On Dec 22, 2008
Bastage:
What the law is doing is basically forcing the woman to marry her rapist so that any child produced in the act would keep the chain going.
This statement is not consistent with scriptures. Are u forgetting verses 25-27?
The women that were raped were not forced to marry their rapists, rather the rapist was killed.(25-27)
The only women that got married to the so called 'rapists' were those who were not engaged to any body else at the time.(28-29)
The other group were those who did not scream for help when there was obvious help available(indicating consent)and those were killed.(23-24)

Three different scenarios and only one of them were the woman had to marry the man that slept with her.

@ttalks
Actually, I take the passage in the context of the time when it was written. A time when it was a male dominated society and women were merely pieces of property. As such, screaming for help or reporting a rapist would probably have resulted in the woman being stoned to death whatever her plea. The liklihood is that she had a far better chance of surviving both the rape and the risk of persecution by keeping quiet.
If such was the situation, why then was the law put in place? The fact that the law was in place indicated that such wasn't the case.

Ridiculous.
So every rape victim who doesn't scream is engaging in consensual sex?
Based on the way it was put in the bible, the screaming for help indicated she was being raped;not screaming for help indicated that she wasn't being raped, but was in consent. That is the conclusion gotten from the context presented by the chapter and verses.

Different contexts imply different meanings.Don't compare that context with the current and every day rape situations of now.

huxley:
This clearly demonstrate how religious-motivated thinking can lead to bad laws and how it necessarily shrivels the minds of thise so infected by religions.

Your argument relies on the fact that consent is established by how loudly the victim of the rape act screams while the act is taking place. Supposing she could not scream for one reason or another. Supposing she was gagged by her attacker?  Supposing she screamed as loudly as she could but she was never heard?
You don't get it.The screaming issue is not about how loud or how low.The screaming for help determines whether she is being raped or not.
You asked supposing she screamed and wasn't heard?Did u read verses 25-27?Doesn't that answer that question?  huh huh
The bible stated specific situations and not the what ifs u're raising.

huxley:
Why don't these laws play a part in the lives of Christians today?  Where these laws not established by Jesus (God)?  And what does Jesus say in Matt 5:  17 - "Think NOT that I have come to abolish the law . . . "?
You obviously have not read your bible properly to be asking this question.
The complete statement you tried to quote is:

Matthew 5:17-18
(17)  Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
(18)  For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

You can see that the law would not pass but until all be fulfilled.
Jesus Christ was the fulfillment of the law,so after his fulfillment, the law passed away.
Jesus's Christ mission on earth was the fulfillment of the law. This fulfillment was complete when he died on the cross.

Compare those verses with these:

Galatians 3:19(KJV)
(19)  Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.

Galatians 3:19(ISV)
(19)  Why, then, was the law given? It was added because of transgressions until the descendant came to whom the promise was given. It was put into effect through angels by means of an intermediary.

Galatians 3:19(CEV)
(19)  What is the use of the Law? It was given later to show that we sin. But it was only supposed to last until the coming of that descendant who was given the promise. In fact, angels gave the Law to Moses, and he gave it to the people.

Why are you the one that is telling us about God using your own ridiculous understanding? why can't the biblical God poke his face and tell that to the people himself? I have seen a lot of reasonable Justification and defence of the action or inactions of the biblical God by his "children" but this is a load of crap.
So sorry for you.Like I said before, you are completely lost. grin

Wouldn't you? Or would you let her scream so that someone would come along and stop you? It's merely logical so don't try going to read crap into it.

And if you're going to rely on the KJV you must realise that it was translated from the Latin Vulgate Bible. The word used in that version was "adprehendens" meaning to "seize" or "grasp". I'm not a reader of Hebrew but you can be pretty sure that the even earlier text would also point away to the idea that it's referring to consensual sex.
Words imply different things in different contexts.Check out the context of verse 23 & 24 of the chapter in question. u'll notice that the judgment on the woman depended on her screaming out for help or not.The fact that she didn't scream for help implied she was happy with the situation;that was why she was guilty. If she had screamed,it would have indicated that she was being raped and would have saved her from judgment.
Check out the following verse;25-27:

Deutronomy 22:25-27
(25)  But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die:
(26) But unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death: for as when a man riseth against his neighbour, and slayeth him, even so is this matter:
(27)  For he found her in the field, and the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her.

These verses show the differences between the two sex situations;the former-consent sex,the latter-rape.

But all in all,we can see that all that isn't the issue, but the fact that those laws play no part in the lives of Christians.
Christianity EtcRe: Is God Really A Just And Fair God? by ttalks(m): 6:23pm On Dec 21, 2008
Thanks pastor AIO. No one here is contesting God's supremacy and awesomeness. if God is just and fair, why then did he say ''i will have mercy on who i will have mercy on'' or what crime did Esau commit that he became the unfavoured of God, while his brother who was a deciever, or didn't jacob decieve his father. Even God said before birth he had planned that Esau will serve him younger brother CHAI!. Is it a good thing if God says you will serve your brother, what is the first word you will say perhapsm '' its not fair God''. So God is unjust and unfair. Many more points to prove this point.

Thanks

Donpuzo aka dogman
What crime did esau commit? That isn't the issue;this is the issue:

Romans 9:11-12
(11)  Yet before their children had been born or had done anything good or bad (so that God's plan of election might continue to operate
(12)  according to his calling and not by works), Rebecca was told, "The older child will serve the younger one."

Is God just and fair?
Answer:

Romans 9:14-21
(14)  What can we say, then? God is not unrighteous, is he? Of course not!
(15)  For he says to Moses, "I will be merciful to the person I want to be merciful to, and I will be kind to the person I want to be kind to."
(16)  Therefore, God's choice does not depend on a person's will or effort, but on God himself, who shows mercy.
(17)  For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, "I have raised you up for this very purpose, to demonstrate my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth."
(18)  Therefore, God has mercy on whomever he chooses, and he hardens the heart of whomever he chooses.
(19)  You may ask me, "Then why does God still find fault with anybody? For who can resist his will?"
(20)  On the contrary, who are you-mere man that you are-to talk back to God? Can an object that was molded say to the one who molded it, "Why did you make me like this?"
(21)  A potter has the right to do what he wants to with his clay, doesn't he? He can make something for a special occasion or something for ordinary use from the same lump.

God is the creator and owner of all existence and all in existence. He can do as he pleases with them and he did all he did in the bible so his purpose and plan of election/selection/ordination/predestination would come into being.

Is he just and fair?  Yes he is.

Think about stuff that you own or created.Don't you handle them as you please or want or according to a specific purpose of yours? Will you now say you aren't being fair to those objects you own or created? Eg. your car(doesn't it deserve a holiday after the way you use it practically everyday in the year?), the food you cooked(for the purpose of stemming hunger and surviving{don't those food materials;plants/animals,deserve to live? What crime did they commit}),the shoe you wear.etc.

You're so lost!!!
Anyway,it isn't an issue for u to believe the bible's accounts. It's already stated there that those who will be saved or granted eternal life have been predestined or ordained by God.

Act 13:48
(48)  When the gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord. Meanwhile, all who had been destined to eternal life believed

Ephesians 1:4-5
(4)  According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
(5)  Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will

If you read or hear the gospel of Christ and do not get convicted by it,chances are :You were not ordained or destined to be saved.

Romans 1:16
(16)  For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is God's power for the salvation of everyone who believes, of the Jew first and of the Greek as well.

The NKJV could help out there.

I find this to be a pretty distasteful way of justifying that what is taking place is not rape. Also the other couple of passages you posted.

How many rape victims "scream for help"? The first thing a rapist will do is silence his victim. Even if it refers to screaming after the event, statistics show that a large number of rape victims do not report the crime.
Back then, in an even more male dominated society, it was probably pretty unthinkable for a woman to report the fact that she had been raped.
Bastage,
how do u know that the first thing a rapist will do is to silence his victim?
Reading the passage very well, the fact that it was mentioned that the female did not scream for help means that she had every opportunity and it was within her power to scream for help, but she chose not to because she wanted to have sex.

Also,u should know that all bible versions might not specifically be right. That aside, the fact that different versions show divergent views on a particular issue implies that u can't take a solid stand on it.U'll notice my initial statement on this issue:

ttalks:
The so called 'rape' as presented by the poster cannot be honestly viewed as rape.
All that aside, rape or no rape, the final conclusion is this:

Such laws do not exist under the new covenant and that is what Christians(true Christians) live by.
That is the issue here. wink

Please why are people believing in a God that was invented and created by the Jews? It is clearly written for everyone to see The jewish God made a convenant with his chosen people and he clearly stated it, so why are people hyperventilating and killing themselves in Nigeria because of a God that clearly stated who he loves and cares for?(I did'nt see Nigerians as part of the people he  made a covenant with, can some one please show me?) Where did it state that the biblical God made a covenant with mankind? why is the word mankind not used but house of Judah and Isreal? why in the text above did the biblical God not make any convenant with people living in Indai, China, The Americas or people living in other parts of the world?(I wonder if he knows about their existence) Do you know the context and true meaning of the covenant you are talking about? It might not be what you were made to believe. I wonder why people are living their lives and waiting for an Imaginary God that the Jews created to come and save them.

Hebrews 8:1-13(KJV)
(1) Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;
(2) A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.
(3) For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.

(6) But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.
(7) For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.
(8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
(9) Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
(10) For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
(11) And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
(12) For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

The so called 'rape' as presented by the poster cannot be honestly viewed as rape.

Deutronomy 22:28-29(KJV)
(28) If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;
(29) Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.

Deutronomy 22:28-29(CEV)
(28) Suppose a woman isn't engaged to be married, and a man talks her into sleeping with him. If they are caught,
(29) they will be forced to get married. He must give her father fifty pieces of silver as a bride-price and can never divorce her.

Deu 22:23-24(KJV)
(23) If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her;
(24) Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.

Deu 22:23-24(CEV)
(23) If a man is caught in town having sex with an engaged woman who isn't screaming for help, they both must be put to death. The man is guilty of having sex with a married woman. And the woman is guilty because she didn't call for help, even though she was inside a town and people were nearby. Take them both to the town gate and stone them to death. You must get rid of the evil they brought into your community.
(24) (SEE 22:23)

One can see from the verses shown in different versions(KJV and CEV)that the sexual relations involved were consentual;there was consent from the female,so it cannot be branded as rape.

As regards verses 23-24,the woman is very guilty because she was engaged to be married to another man and then decided to have sexual relations with another;hence her punishment.
As regards verses 28-29,it's just a situation of two unmarried and unengaged people having sex which was against the law, hence the forced marriage.

Again, those laws put forward by the verses in question are not part of the ten commandments but among all the other laws.

Those laws were all inclusive under the old testament/covenant,but are not binding under the new testament/covenant.

I notice that many of the defenders of the Bishop and his edifice always point to one aspect whenever they are in the act of defending:

That many people give their lives to Jesus Christ through that tabernacle being in place.

Hmmm, Some people just don't get it.

Most people do not realize that the gospel being delivered at the 'Faith tabernacle' is another gospel and not the gospel of Jesus Christ as delivered once and for all by his apostles. It is the gospel that ensures material/earthly/physical benefits for those who accept it.It does not secure the true benefit which comes from accepting the gospel of Jesus Christ;which is eternal.
Therefore, those who people claim are being saved, actually are not being saved at all. They're just getting more deluded and driven further away from the eternal reward of Christ.

No, you quote me wrong somehow dear,i know those verses are from the Old Testament but let's be Sincere, this verses are SATANIC!!,i said this because I'm absolutely disappointed with the changes I'm Seeing in the Modern World.attalks, know that all fingers are not equal and people don't reason or interpret in common.

Okey, let me put you through dear,This verses majority of people around the world has been practicing because they don't really Understand it,they only know that the words written in the bible are words of GOD and we must Obey them.,and as for those that wrote the Bible will responsible for misleading many people with the Bible.,i know people addicted practicing such Verses, they are not to be blame if anything happen.

many people have Quotes these Verses in the Wrong way!!.and is the main reason the World is Changing Now!.(those responsible for Such Verses shall pay for it)
Those who are still practicing those laws have themselves to blame. As for those who wrote the bible, they are not to be blamed. It is those who interpret it wrongly that are to be blamed. The bible has already admonished us to read it and interpret it rightly:

2Timothy 2:15
(15)  Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Romans 12:2
(2)  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

If one wrongly interprets the bible,he has his/her self to blame.

After all, in school settings, you can't expect the teacher to be blamed when he lectured the same syllabus of a course at the same time to a set of students and part of them passed and part failed. The students who failed have themselves to blame because they had equal opportunity in learning and gaining from the teacher's classes as those who passed.

The bible; if studied correctly and properly, will never allow anyone to arrive at the conclusion that those verses are satanic.

please what is word of faith movement, pentecostal, evangelical, Orthodox, charismatics wink wink wink wink.
Abeg, we are just Christians. All these were coined by people. Before we know, Christians will be arguing wether to use the name Bible or scriptures, church or assembly, camp meeting or  undecided undecided undecided undecided
That is why one needs to know what they all stand for because they are different sorts of movements or groups which were coined by people. Most of these groups(I won't say all;but would specifically mention the word of faith movement and the pentecostals{which are also rooted in WOF})have completely missed it in terms of the teachings or message of the bible. Many people who call themselves 'Christians' have associated themselves knowingly or unknowingly to these different groups and by so doing have lost their way.
One can't call such Christians, cos Christians are supposed to be those who walk and live according to the word of God; with more emphasis on the new covenant.

Hi poster,
It is very clear from ur post that u do not understand the bible at all, hence ur post.
Those laws u quoted were part of the laws that existed within the old covenant between God and the Israelites.
Such laws do not exist in the new covenant which is between God and all mankind(The old covenant was exclusively btw God and the Israelites).
Those laws were laid down to ensure that the Israelites toed the line with God.
In this new dispensation of grace brought about by the new covenant, things are different as those laws are no longer applicable,so ur wonderings are quite unnecessary.

Some of us just prefer letting sleeping dogs lie. I don't believe or disbelieve those tales, and i think its better for my BP that way. I'm just an on-looker, I ensure my walk wit Christ is in order and have my bible and Jesus as my references.
@hopegirl,
Your situation or the way you decide to let 'sleeping dogs lie';as you put it,is really a sad one.If you are a Christian, you should know that it is your responsibility to make sure that the faith you profess is not being bastardized. The bible expressly says so:

Jude 1:3-4
(3)  Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
(4)  For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

mufikings:
I have gone through this blog, and one thing I can say to the initiator is that, The Bible gives account of how Christ was able to cure certain people as a result of their unbelives, Paul gave account of how the Church yet born again, thus canal !!!, and the Bible also gives account of how judgement will start from the Church, I believe Pastor Chris Knows all these, also there is a message of P.Chris,"Beware of Dogs" apparently that exclaims more on belivers within the house with wrong motives.

When you beheld those experiences the you pray and ask the Holy spirit for guardiance, before coming to write this, God's way'a r not ours, for our wisdom is foolishness to him, are you sure of what you are doing or writing, huh?

Telling all this crap about P.Chris proves nothing, it's not in our place to pass any comment on judegment on any man of God, you apparently think you are making a big point here on alarming the public, may the Lord help you !! remember David forbid anyone of his soldiers to rebuke Saul even when he became jealous of him, and had wanted him dead, the very person that even brought the news to him about his death & that of his son jonathan,  was slain by David's order.

He had ordered that there should not be mention of such amongst the Land, that Saul was a king of isreal from God.

Anyone can take a swipe at P Chris, and complain what ever they want, I stand not to defend any wrong doing, but must warn of such, it should not be a subject of debate as the Lord frowns as such, many receive hope & healing by his messages, many are with the father by hearing his messages, and so on ,let P Chris be P.Chris and you my beloved be what God has asked u to be.

Thank you.
Spoken like a true bible illiterate!!

@hopegirl,

There is no mystery about the blood of Jesus. The whole story about it has been revealed to us:

Matthew 26:28
(28)  For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

The holy communion has a purpose and it is highlighted as follows:

1 Corinthians 11:23-25
1Co 11:23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
1Co 11:24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
1Co 11:25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
1Co 11:26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.

Simple and very precise!!

@hopegirl,

As regards your proceeding comment(Feet-washing, ), you and Oyedepo have missed the message completely.Feet washing was never instituted for any of the said purposes it is claimed for.The feet washing episode by Jesus was just to impart a message of humility;how those who are above or are leaders should be humble and be lowly or as servants.
John 13:14-15 indicates that we should practice this humility among ourselves as we live.

@hopegirl,

What on earth was the matter with Epaphroditus?Well,I guess he did not know what P. Chris doctrine is about:

Philipians 2:25-27
(25)  Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellowsoldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants.
(26)  For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick.
(27)  For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him
; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.

Or Timothy:

1Timothy 5:23
(23)  Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities.

Why on earth didn't they use Chris's wildcard of "I cannot be sick."

Just goes to show that you and Chris have gotten things mixed up

what u've qouted here scares me. i have been at Christ embassy for many years and these things that u say are unbiblical are all i've known and believed for a very long time. where to from here? this is scary,
Sistasista,
I guess what you need to do, or the 'where to from here?' for you is to go back to the bible and read and understand it properly without the knowledge you've gotten from Pastor Chris and so many other wolves in sheep's clothing.
The source of truth about life in Christ is the bible.Honest reading of its contents will clear the way for you.

Also,I think Sir John's advice is equally cool.

@ hopegirl,
As regards your other comment where you quoted me:

David Oyedepo claims that Feet-washing is a religious rite instituted by Jesus Christ as a means of connecting to the priesthood, and a means of miracles and all that.

David Oyedepo claims that the holy communion is a means to miracles, healing and so on.

David Oyedepo once said;when challenged about changing ministry into business, "It was Jesus Himself who said that He must be about the Father’s business. We didn’t turn Church into a business. The Master Himself did."

David Oyedepo held up a bottle of olive oil and said, "This is the Holy Spirit in a bottle."

Proper study of the Bible(which is something you should learn how to do since u haven't been able to detect any heresies from the man's teachings)shows that the above claims and statement of David Oyedepo do not conform to the doctrine of  the gospel of Jesus Christ. They have no biblical stand or support;which renders them as fabrications of a false teacher.
