Christianity EtcRe: Who Says Tithing Is Not New Testamental? by ttalks(m): 12:09pm On Jan 05, 2010
^^^^ It's all about the money . . . . . ta da da dam dam da dam dam . . . . . grin

But why must giving always be related to money?

Money is just one of the things that can be given; not the sole thing that can be given.
Christianity EtcRe: Who Says Tithing Is Not New Testamental? by ttalks(m): 1:17am On Jan 05, 2010
1Jn 4:12
(12) No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

The above depicts christianity.

1Jn 4:20
(20) If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

True words above. Christianity is not about doing this or that so as to get this or that. Christianity is about loving one another(in deed and not just in words or facial expressions grin).
We are to love one another just as God loved us and still forever loves us.
It is not about some life ritual of fulfilling this or that; but earnestly living a life of unconditional love for one another.

1Jn 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
1Jn 3:17 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
1Jn 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
1Jn 3:19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.

Giving as recognized by God is that which we do towards meeting the needs of those who are in need. That is a true sign of love for others.
Giving based on ceremony or anything else other than meeting needs or with the basis of what one hopes to receive in return is not a sign of true love.

Just from one quote he made, you have sized him up completely as to prejudge him, no?

I think we ought to be very careful in the things we say.
My conclusions are not based on just that one quote he made.
It is a combination of everything he's been saying and I have seen that even before his final quote.
He just sealed what i felt about him with that quote.

Joagbaje:
We dont give to God because he has a need. We dont give to Man of God because he is poor. We give to God for our prosperity.
Which essentially reveals you and your lot for what you are -
You don't give because you care about others or love others. You give so as to increase your kitty and ensure your own satisfaction (investing in lucrative businesses to get a windfall of dividends grin)
You guys don't rep christianity at all when scrutinized properly.

If you read the word of God and can't come to the conclusion that your relationship with other human beings show the truth of your proclaimed love for God,
then you are completely lost.

All over the scripture, God has shown that we show or demonstrate our love and faithfulness to him by how we relate to and treat our fellow human beings.

leahsarahk:
I went to a New Years Eve celebration tonight with the Redeemed Christian Church of God. This is a brand new experience to me. There was alot of shouting and loud talking going on. We were encouraged to cross over to the New Year with out sickness. We were to be thankful we are all alive today. What struck me the most however was when we were told to enter into a salt covenant with one another. People brought salt for us all to share and take home. We were told this is for healing us. Than we had communion and after that we were told to anoint our feet with oil to keep our feet inline with our heads. Can anyone explain this ritual to me, I have never heard of this before in my whole life. Everyone there did as they were instructed to do. I was uncomfortable and was not able to conform. Is this biblical? Let me know what you think about this please. They also took up 2 offerings and we were encouraged to give our first money to God this brand New year.
leahsarahk,

The only thing i can tell you is that everything which they told you guys to do are just stuff created by the people/pastors of that parish.
They are not stuff which you need to do.
You really ought to take time out and know what God is about and also Christianity.
It does not involve practically 90% of the dross we see bandied about by churches these days;RCCG being one of them.

Luk 6:38
(38) If you give to others, you will be given a full amount in return. It will be packed down, shaken together, and spilling over into your lap. The way you treat others is the way you will be treated.

The words in bold is the whole point of Luke 6:38 and the few verses before it which deal with the way we relate with other people around us.
It has absolutely nothing to do with the fabled formular of giving to the church or pastor in the hope of expecting a mighty return in investments.
Christianity EtcRe: God Causes Disasters? by ttalks(m): 9:03am On Dec 25, 2009
But what you said earlier made it look like God could never do any thing like destruction or disasters; that if such did happen, it must be the devil's doing.

The truth is, everything that happens is by God and for God. He is in total control; not the wimpy god people make him out to be when they make it look like things are out of his control.

Evil is a creation of God and it does happen when God deems it necessary.

Isa 45:7 kjv
(7)  I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.

Isa 45:7 cev
(7)  I create light and darkness, happiness and sorrow. I, the LORD, do all of this.

Isa 45:7 bbe
(7)  I am the giver of light and the maker of the dark; causing blessing, and sending troubles; I am the Lord, who does all these things.

The word for evil, sorrow and troubles as transliterated by the three bible versions above is:   רע

or ra‛ in hebrew.

It is this same word that is used for evil in every other part of the bible written in hebrew.
Christianity EtcRe: God Causes Disasters? by ttalks(m): 8:19am On Dec 25, 2009
Amos 3:6 kjv
(6) Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?

Amos 3:6 cev
(6) Isn't the whole city frightened when the trumpet signals an attack? Isn't it the LORD who brings disaster on a city?

Amo 3:6 bbe
(6) If the horn is sounded in the town will the people not be full of fear? will evil come on a town if the Lord has not done it?

God is responsible for everything we see or experience. The sooner we realize and accept this fact, the easier it is for us.

The devil is just a perfectly functioning creation of God.

noetic, where are the bible verses to support ur claim above?
Christianity EtcRe: Bimbo Odukoya Is In Heaven by ttalks(m): 8:05am On Dec 18, 2009
Bimbo Odukoya is neither in heaven or in hell. She no longer exists any more cos she's dead. Her spirit which emanated from God has returned to God while her body has returned to the earth.

On the last day; time of Christ's return, she will be regenerated(resurrected) to life. When this happens, it would be(to her) like she was in a very long sleep and had just woken up.
That is when we can start talking about heaven or hell.

Ecc 12:7
(7) So our bodies return to the earth, and the life-giving breath returns to God.

Ecc 9:5
(5) For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

it shall be measured to you again.
Kola, you ought to know better than this.

The passage you quoted did not have any thing to do with giving money to Pastors.

The passage read within its context of use was talking about the attitude Christians should have towards others/other people in which having a giving attitude is one of them.

This giving was never specifically giving of money but giving of different kind of things in accordance to needs of people around you.

Such giving could be giving of money, food, time, love, respect, friendship, advice, help, etc. but all in accordance to need.

I don't know how people rearranged the meaning to specifically money to pastors. undecided

mikeapollo:
What Bakare is doing and saying are the hallmark of an unfulfilled, unhappy man. He is not the only one. Okotie is another of his ilk.
When God tru;y calls a man to serve Him, He puts His Spirit and Peace in his heart. That Spirit and Peace would not make you speak evil, condemn, accuse and criticize another man of God or even any other man.

The Holy Spirit would enable you to carry on with the work of God in a unique and successful manner, while the Peace would help you to be at peace within yourself and people around you, and you would not be always granting interviews in newspapers to abuse or condenm other men of God the way Bakare and Okotie (agents and members of PFN) do

Bakare has virtually criticised and condemned every pastor in Nigeria except himself. It is good that it's happening in the miidst of the so called "holier than thou" PFN. They used to have a common enemy in TB Joshua, and later added Pastor Chris to it.

The Bible says by their fruit you shall know them, there is no condemnation in the fruits of The Spirit

I think I will become confused. He would like me to talk to the people there about this. I dont feel that I should as they will be quite doctrinated into the way they see the scripture. I wont be able to withstand the pressure. I feel that I will not grow there and I do need to take my salvation seriously. Some day when my husband and I die we will be judged on our own not together, but seperately. I must take responsibility for my spiritual life. This is why I dont feel cofortable going to the Redeemed Church.
Everything kunleoshob has said so far is what u need to do. I understand about not wanting to continue with RCCG.
I think I'm in support of not continuing with them cos u need time to build up ur personal faith in the word of God and to be firmly rooted in it.
Once u're firmly rooted in the true message passed across by the word of God, u can be in any congregation and not be moved by anything but the truth.

So, my advice is: take out time to firmly establish ur faith in the true message of God's word before u decide if u want to continue going with ur husband to RCCG(for peace's sake) or to continue with where u'll be getting the truth constantly reiterated.

CrazyMan:
I believe that heaven and hell is real, and I also believe that Jesus didn't fail his mission.

But the only question I have to ask is about the creation.

We all know that Satat was once an angle of light. He tried to overthrow God but failed and was casted out of heaven.

Now here's my question: knowing fully well that Satan would work endlessly to see the downfall of man beause of the way he was casted out of heaven, and secondly, of all the places Satan and his agents could have been casted, God casted them to the earth.

Now the bible tells us that God created man in his own image and likeness, blessed them and placed them on the same earth where his worst enemy Satan dwells; and gave them a commandment to avoid a particular tree (why plant such a tree in the first place if you want it to be avoided).

Unfortunately, Satan succeeded in decieving them, and God drove them out of the garden, cursed them and made their life miserable.

Now tell me, is it fair sad
The only thing I have to say here is in regard to the words in bold above; the ones with regard to Satan.

Satan was never an angel of light nor an angel of God. Also, he never tried to overthrow God at any point in time.

He was created a devil and has always been a devil.

As i said earlier, such stuff is simply the trickery on emotions of people.
Ghosts, wandering spirits do exist in the minds of people but are not reality; they are simply virtual stuff projected based on the emotions of those involved.

I have no understanding or idea about wandering spirits. All i can say that if such do exist, it is as a result of trickery of the devil and his cohorts.
I guess this idea of wandering spirits is a play on the emotions of people who believe such stuff.
Christianity EtcRe: Where Does The Spirit Go? by ttalks(m): 11:01am On Nov 12, 2009
Godmother:
Please, experts in the house, I am confused on a particular subject. Its about a man being a tripathide (hope I got the spelling right) being. If he dies the body returns to the dust, the soul goes to either heaven or hell. Where does the spirit go to?
The spirit goes back to God:

Ecclesiastes 12:7
7. Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

Also, the soul does not go to hell or heaven when the person dies; it simply ceases to exist at that point in time; it loses all form of conciousness.

The hell or heaven concept can only come into play when the judgement period comes up; and that is after Christ's return when everybody; both the living and the dead will face judgement.
Tonye-t, I too also specifically responded in a post of mine that there is no difference in giving/offerings. Giving is a general term that covers provisions to meet needs as they arise.

Pastors and their brethren both deserve the help or giving of others to meet needs when they come up; but this is subject to the willingness and ability of the givers and not on the basis of any mandatory aunction.

Viaro,
I see everything you've written.
You definitely will have your own opinion about what you have done; others definitely will have theirs.
At the end of the day, it is usually what people say about you and not what you say about yourself that counts in the eyes of the public.
A person that doesn't take what people say or conclude about them into consideration is walking on thin ice.

Just recall what i said earlier on as you put in more effort towards the topic at hand:

Remember, actions do speak louder than words. You could say you have done this and done that. Fine! let's see it clearly; live and direct, at least from now.
