I actually found Americans use their credit card for pretty much everything. Some do not even see their debit card regularly as they use credit cards and clear it up every month.

I use y credit card for weekly grocery shopping and fuel etc, not because I do not have the money but because it builds my credit and also i get cash back. I have my budget for groceries for the month, so use my credit card and clear it up without any interest payment.

I agree that for international students credit card should not be priority as you don't have a steady income etc, but if you are living and working in the US long term, it is required.

as BigFrancis said you need financial discipline to manage it properly, but if managed properly it has it benefits. I get enough points on my Amex a year to go on free holidays or buy stuff without any interest payment.

And all this talk of the rich people do not use credit cards is wrong. If so why have the likes of the Platinum Amex card?

You are right to point out the dangers and i agree for international students the risk is too much to get into debt, but for financially stable and disciplined people in the US, it can be very advantageous.

it is actually a bad bad decision it doesn't build your credit at all
i know banks and credit institutions that can cancel terminate or deny u if all you do is run cards at 7 eleven, Starbucks, dollar general etc.

You do not use a credit card to buy a home or car, you use a credit card to build your credit history and score so you can get good rates on mortgages when you buy a home.

Sometimes event if you was to rent an apartment or get a job they would check your credit rating to see if you have financial discipline

If properly managed with good financial discipline credit cards have great benefits. Also if you plan to stay in the U.S. You would need it to build your credit for mortgages etc in the future.

I agree that if not properly manag d you can get into serious financial issues quickly but vice versa if you manage cards very well you can get good benefits.

Given we don't really have a credit culture in Nigeria many international students tend to get in trouble because they get carried away with this credit limit and spend anyhow without understanding how it works.

That's why we would advice internationally students to either avoid or be very careful until you have a steady income and financial discipline. Also having a small manageable limit is good so if you make a mistake it's not bankruptcy level

The article about more Americans leaving than going to China was written June last year. You can be rest assured that since then the Chinese economy has been facing more challenges e.g. just from June this year their stock market fell over 30% so I expect more Americans are leaving than arriving.

The second article was written Feb this year, is that still too old for you?

If i spend time I will find recent articles for you if you want. China is a super power yes, but their economy has grown exponentially by cheap debt funded indirectly by the government through state owned banks. As a result there are asset bubbles in the real estate sector and stock market. china now has the highest debt to GDP ratio in the world.

Please do some research in the internet about the Japanese lost decade. You will see Japan exhibited similar qualities like the Chinese economy. Rapid growth funded by cheap debt which resulted in stagnation for a long time.

Even China know they need to rebalance their economy from a government fuelled economy to a consumer led economy like the US.

Re your point about Donald Trump, he will never win the election so don't let him stop you if you were interested, and also the issue of police killing blacks, yes tragic but as i say why would you resist arrest or struggle with armed police? If you are law abiding, well to do police don't bother you and even if they stop you respect begets respect. If you start acting aggressive, and cursing then they in turn act aggressive.

I lived in the UK for 10 years and now live in Chicago and travel around the states for work not once has the police pulled a gun on me because I have not given them a reason to. And p.s. there have been issues of police shooting white people too, just doesn't make the news as people cannot shout racism.

America is a huge country and due to gun laws anyone can carry a gun hence sometimes the police can be a bit too forward once they sense a threat, but do you blame them? If your dad was a police officer you would want him to come home safe at night wouldn't you?

Yes not everything on the internet is true, but lots of valuable information and research can be found on the internet so I don't get your point at all.

When the CNN you quote are developing stories, how do they do their research They use multiple means and the internet plays a huge part of it. When the presidential candidates you quoted do research, what do they use? They use the internet amongst other means. They have lots of volunteers who conduct research for them using the internet so please get your facts right.

Infact if African youths used the internet more to research rather than silly frivolous things they would be better enlightened rather than carrying I heard rumors all around. If our leaders used the power of the internet, we would not have them saying all the ridiculous things they said during campaign.

The thing with the internet is you can always find information to suite whatever argument you want to make and this also applies to every tool of research therefore you believe everyone is moving to china then great, I believe no, more people are moving from China to western countries and i have my information to back it up.

By sheer size of the population alone this is not an argument. China has 1 billion more people than the USA so there will always be more people trying to move to the US for a better life while American businessmen will go to China for business opportunities not exactly to stay there permanently or for a better life. There are far more American expats in China than there are Chinese expats in America. Same with international students, same with visitors.

Not all of them are drug dealers or trying to get rich. Many just want a better life, to be able to work, earn money and look after their family.

Imagine the people who's lives have been affected by years of war and fighting in Syria etc, they will be very desperate for a better life wouldn't they.

I don't really get what you are saying i.e. if China's population is a good or bad thing but I do applaud what they have achieved and in discussion with some friends recently I mentioned for Nigeria to emerge as a great nation as we want, we may need to adopt some hardline totalitarian rule as is practiced in China to get rid of the corruption and change the mentality of the people which can help us fix what needs to be fixed once and for all.

Obviously this may not be possibly as that would be going from a democratic country to a dictatorship again but it worked for China and the likes of Singapore.
