As you may be aware the bill Gates foundation played a huge role funding the roll out of polio vaccines in Nigeria and other affected countries so Buhari meeting gates may not be a backward thing.

Let's just stop all this insulting for the same of insulting. It's getting old.

Don't you think this could have been averted if we had a functioning minister of foreign affairs working with the Nigerian UN representative?

I agree Buhari cannot be expected to be everywhere or do everything, and that is where delegation comes in.

Shut up! You have nothing tangible to contribute to this thread. Maybe you skipped the place where the reason he didn't go in time was stated. Read it now!

Now ask yourself "Who are the Nigerian UN mission staff? Who is to blame? Buhari? Or them?" Why didn't they brief him? Those people are so incompetent. If Buhari decides to sack those Nigerian UN mission staff when he's back to Nigeria now and appoints a competent Northerner who he trusts, you and your fellow wailers would still wail and shout marginalisation and favouritism!!

Christianity EtcRe: 5 Reasons Why Pastors Do Not Need Private Jets by ttmacoy: 8:00pm On Sep 20, 2015
The foreigners didn't bring a disease because even the British who brought religion to Nigeria do not practice it the way we do.

As with everything we over do it for our selfish gains.

joseph1832:
Unfortunately many of these christians will not see and consider this, many of them will still cheer and applaud their pastors.

Many of the members of this churches were their pastors own private jets are poor and unemployed, one might ask what these churches are doing to help ameliorate the suffering of their members.

I find it hard to believe that many are still blinded by this sham of a thing called religion, the sooner we get rid of this foreign disease we call religion, the better it is for us all.
Christianity EtcRe: 5 Reasons Why Pastors Do Not Need Private Jets by ttmacoy: 7:59pm On Sep 20, 2015
The typical mind-set of going to church with the expectations of financial miracles see nothing wrong with pastors owning multiple private jets while members are suffering.

We have misplaced priorities as a nation and we need to have clear separation between the church/mosque/religion and governance or it I will continue to be the same old story.

AllNaijaBlogger:
With owning private jets being the new trend for Nigerian pastors at the moment, I keep wondering whether Jesus would agree to have one if He were in the shoes of these same pastors today. Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, Bishop David Oyedepo, Enoch Adeboye and Pastor T.B. Joshua are Nigerian pastors reported to have private jets.

As a christian who believes a lot in humility, I disagree with the ownership of such luxurious vessels in the name of evangelism. Here are the reasons why I feel that private jets are not necessary for christian leaders;

1) Diplomats and International business executives manage travelling a lot without it; there are many jobs that require a lot of travel such as being a diplomat or an international aid worker or a top level executive of an international firm. A lot of people travel frequently and globally as part of their job without the aid of a private jet and so, why can’t pastors do the same? Some of the rich business executives probably travel more than these pastors. Even the pope doesn’t own a private jet, and he is responsible for all catholic churches across the world! Honestly, it is hard to muster up an excuse for a pastor’s private jet when even the pope doesn’t own one.

2) Private jets actually hamper evangelism by consuming more time, effort and money than a commercial flight; The time and effort needed to maintain a private jet and keep it running is ridiculous when one considers the fact that a commercial flight is a far cheaper and less tedious service to use for global evangelism. As a private jet owner, you will have to think about numerous issues such as the pilot’s fees and demands, the scheduling of the maintenance or repairs of the plane, and also the international restrictions/laws regarding the flight of the private jet. This means that a private jet owner will have less time to think about preaching the word of God because of all the time and effort spent on the private jet’s issues. A first class commercial flight will only involve buying your ticket online, checking in and then going early for your flight- isn’t that just easier?

3) Jesus rode on donkeys and not on chariots; horses and chariots were the highest level of transport in biblical times but Jesus chose to humbly enter the city of Jerusalem with a donkey in what we know as the triumphal entry in the New Testament. Conversely, we have pastors riding on the highest levels of transports in the form of private jets that reeks of the very materialism that Jesus speaks against in Matthew 6;24.

4) Private jets are bad for the Nigerian economy; private jets and planes in general are not manufactured in Nigeria and so, a lot of the repairs and maintenance will require importation of labour and spare parts from countries like the USA or Canada. This also means that lot of transactions will be done in thousands of Dollars, rather than our local Naira. One can imagine the exorbitant cost to the Nigerian private jet owner if he or she has to pay the pilots, technicians and mechanics in Dollars given that the exchange rate doesn’t favour the Naira. Should a church really contribute to this leakage to our economy?

5) Private jets do not help the image of Nigerian leaders; one has to consider the bad image our Nigerian leaders have in the eyes of the foreign press- flamboyant and corrupt people who care little for the suffering of their impoverished masses. A pastor owning a private jet worth millions of dollars while many of his church members struggle to survive everyday is not going to help such an image. Whatever happened to the John the Baptist type of preachers who lived a chaste life not corrupted by the illusions of vanity? I think some of our religious leaders should learn from Jose Mujica, a man who chose a simple life despite wielding so much power and influence as the president of Uruguay.

Oh yeah I must be a slowpoke thanks. But you go read your post and point out the positivity in it. What has e being a billionaire have to do with him dieing at old age? Did he ever tell you that because he is a billionaire he didn't expect to die?

Maybe that is because Dangote made his money milking Nigeria dry by colluding with people on power to hold monopolies on key sectors.

If Fernandez made his money outside Nigeria it is not compulsory he invests it in Nigeria. Lakshmi Mittall has the bulk of his wealth in the UK not India because that is where it makes business sense for him to.

For those in their second year of their undergraduate degrees, SEO London is a good organization to use to secure internship with good blue chip firms in the investment banking, consulting etc sectors. Their objective is to increase the number of ethnic minorities working in the city and they work with international students etc.

You will need to go through their recruitment process 9same as if applying directly to one of the banks, but if successful they place you with one of their many partner firms around the city.

I can vouch for them as I was able to secure an investment banking internship through them back in 2007 and that led to a graduate role by the I started my final year in University.

Hello All,

Just to let you know that many of the companies in the UK who sponsor for work permits now have now opened their graduate programs.

For those studying finance and business related courses, the big 4 firms are one i usually recommend as they sponsor a lot of international students each year and provide good training ground. This does not apply to only the big 4 but pretty much most of the major companies who sponsor for work permits.

http://www.ey.com/UK/en/Careers/Students/Graduate-Opportunities

http://www2.deloitte.com/uk/en/careers/students.html

https://www.kpmgcareers.co.uk/graduates/graduate-programmes

http://www.pwc.co.uk/careers/student/graduateopportunities/our-opportunities.html

This mostly applies to those in the UK who are just starting their final year of their bachelors programmes and want to work in the UK afterwards. Those studying for their masters can also apply but it is usually more difficult due to lack of history in the UK and no time to adapt etc but no harm trying.

For those starting their second year of bachelors degrees, this is the time to start applying for internships which would make it easier to secure graduate roles by the time you graduate.

InvestmentRe: Financial Markets Suffer After JP Morgan Index Expulsion by ttmacoy: 6:11pm On Sep 09, 2015
I love the way we blame everyone for our mess every time.

It is not America or the West that has put Nigeria in the situation it is now. It is Nigerian's selfishness and greed. Oil prices were at record high for years and we have nothing to show for it and you come here blaming America.

How will an African currency work when we are not even united in Nigeria not to talk of Africa as a continent? And even if there was an African currency there will have to be rules and principles which every member must abide by which means even if Nigeria or any country involved broke those rules they could be chucked out.
Same principle applies with the JP Morgan index. There are minimum criteria for government bonds to be part of it. Nigeria has fallen out of those requirements and will be dropped simple. it is only fair on other countries who are able to meet the requirements that when one doesn't he faces the consequence rather than the way we always find a way to bend rules and principles in Nigeria. Stop blaming others for your problems.

You say America owes China. i say China actually believes in America so much that it has invested the bulk of its foreign reserves in the US Federal bonds because it knows that is one of the most liquid and strongest investment. You do realize the reason the likes of China, Japan etc buy US treasury bills and bonds is because of those investments are considered very strong and liquid and not because America is begging China right? Bonds are sold as auctions and China buys them because they need to hold foreign reserves to support their export driven economy. please get your facts right.

Nigeria is the cause of Nigeria's problems.

ModiKen:
We would get back on our feet.

Fork all them whiteman lists, rules and regulations for financial development.

They are what brought Africa to its knees financially. World Bank and IMF comes to mind here.

We need to block all holes through which those thieves who have been in power or close to those in power keep looting us.

We would develop without JP Morgan listing.

We need to break free of these American and European organisations trying to determine our growth and development.

Africa its time we have our own currency; one currency for the continent as suggested by the late Mummuar Ghadaffi.

An African currency would go higher than the Euro used by member countries of the Euro zone due to the huge amount of resources and the endless investment opportunities on the continent

So they expected us to fold our arms and watch the Naira fall same way the Zimbabwean dollar fell.

CBN please continue protecting our currency.

We may feel it hurts now but on the long run we would see the benefits.

China is a shining example. Today the U.S owes China thousands of dollars.

You may be able to use a B1/B2 visa for such a short course.

It is better to start your research with the US Embassy website and also google generally, then come to Nairaland if there are any specific queries.

Below is a link which explains how to get a visa for a short course.

http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/getting-us-visa-short-recreational-part-time-study-course.html

According to the US government website below the B2 visa can be used for short courses not leading to a degree etc, but it will be best to confirm with the organization where you are taking the training.

Ahhh NY.... that's a different story lol

NYC is one crazy city. I haven't driven there before and I don't think I will like to.

Yeah i can see how a driving test in NYC will be hard. If i was to take a driving test there I would go outside NYC where it is a bit calmer.

For the Illinois test what I found was as long as you stop at every stop sign or junction even if no sign and keep to speed limits you're good. For the UK you have to deal with roundabouts, smaller roads, parallel parking, 3 point turn etc all on manual drive lol. I passed on my 3rd attempt.

NY road test is very hard. Many NY drivers got it after more than 1 trial. I don't have to retake any road test when I was giving up my NM for NY license. However driving on NY roads is crazzzzy... top speed if you can handle it. I do 80/90 mph on highways depending on how spirit moves me and 10 above speed limit in streets. All my road violations were from few mph above speed limit in school zones.

It might be better to have some foreign missions manage relations for two countries which are close by or maybe maintaining one mission in a country rather than having a presence in multiple cities.

I think it would be better to have fewer foreign missions which are effective and know what they are doing rather than having lots of offices all over with staff who are so rude, unprofessional and lazy.

Eneze1:
Good move, though there seems to be a down side to this review. There's practically no country in the world where we don't have Nigerians living and closing foreign missions in such country might be a little detrimental
