Good day my Honda people! A new Honda owner in the house. Just got a 2017 Honda Accord 3 days ago after using 2010 Camry SE for 4years! I live in Benin City where Honda cars are abhorred 😂, so there’s almost no one to get tips from. Anyways, I need to ask a few questions. 1. Which Ow-20 brand of oil is should I use? I’m thinking about Mobil 1, but there’s too much fake. Which other one can I use? Also which oil filter can I use for the car and is there a dealer here I can buy original one from? 2. I don’t know what happened to the catalytic converter, but the one that came with it is the China one and I keep getting Check Engine Light (Catalytic Converter efficiency below threshold Bank 1). I want to change the catalytic converter but I can’t seem to find an OEM catalyst to buy. I have even called some dealers in Lagos and they said they don’t have it. So can I use another Aftermarket for it? 3. Any other tips on how to take care of my new baby? |
Percival9:Thank you for your contribution. Actually we’ve gone to inspect the car and found out that some of features that made him opt for the accord are not in the Nigerian used one. It’s like the features were exclusive to the American market and removed from the West African market, like the lane watch, memory seats, parking sensors, lumbar support, etc. He has also checked the history of the tokumbo and the car was well maintained with just 60k miles on it (actual odometer reading from the vin). So he’s currently in the process of negotiating with the dealer for the car. Thanks. |
Hello guys, please I need your suggestions. My friend is about buying a car, 2017 Honda Accord to be exact. He has the option of choosing between a tokunbo car and a Nigerian used that was bought brand new in 2021 from Honda dealership in Lagos. The person that owns the Nigerian used car is selling because he is relocating from the country. The tokunbo is expensive because of the import duties and all but he really doesn’t mind. He just wants to know which will be better. The Nigerian used is tokunbo standard clean from the pictures but his worry is that he believes that even though they’re both Honda cars, he feels that the one produced for the American market will be more durable and reliable than the ones sent to the West African markets. Could this be true? Should he go for the Nigerian used since it is significantly cheaper than the tokunbo? |
Olamzmillz001:Still available? |
Truth is I really like the 2017/18 Honda CR-V. It has everything I want. Good looks, nice interior, great gas mileage for a compact SUV. But I am still unsure about the 1.5l turbo engine and the oil dilution problem. Although I have read that the issue was mostly observed in colder climate regions. I'm thinking using the engine in Nigeria won't be much of a problem because of our weather. I'm ready to get the car now and that is the only compact SUV that is within my budget that ticks almost every box in my shopping list. More advice please. nurey: |
With how expensive cars are now, it's nearly impossible for somebody to buy a car of his choice these days. I wanted to get a car around June, something came up and I had to use part of the money. Now all the cars I had on my list are now out of reach coz of the price... I was in Lagos this weekend and I was surprised to see lots of Mazda Cx-9 on Lagos roads, I checked and it's a much cheaper alternative to Highlander and Pilot. So I started thinking about going for it, particularly the 2014 CX-9. But as usual, before I do anything, I'll have to come and check for opinions from nairaland. From my research, I find that the most complained issue is the water pump which is inside the engine. Since that is the issue, so I was thinking maybe I can just replace the water pump immediately I buy it to give me some insurance. Is there no way of monitoring the water pump in order to avoid the problem? Apart from the water pump, is there any other problem with the car? Please I need your opinions. Thanks. |
Please send me your number so we can negotiate |
Good evening everyone. Please a friend of mine needs an advice. He has an admission for MBA in Canada and an admission for Social Work in the UK. He tried getting an admission to Social Work in Canada but couldn’t so he eventually opted for an MBA. He is in his late thirties. He prefers Canada as a destination because the immigration pathway to PR is shorter and more stable. However, he prefers Masters in Social Work because it has better prospects for career and jobs and he is also better suited for it. His only concern about the UK is the immigration pathway otherwise what he really wants is Social Work. And his major concern with the MBA is getting a good job after graduating since the MBA is not from one of the top business schools in Canada. So guys, what will you advice? MBA in a low rated university in Canada or MSW in UK? If he chooses UK, will he be able to get a job as a social worker in Canada after graduating in UK? |

Omo… 2016 Hyundai Sonata interior sweet o. My guy is in the market for a new whip, we were looking at Honda accord 2015 then we saw a 2016 Sonata. The car enter my guy eye since because it’s even cheaper. So I say let me help him ask some questions about it here… Is the car reliable? Gurus in the house please. |
sultaan:Thanks for your response. Please what about the parts. Are they readily available in the market? |
Hello Nairalanders. Please I'm out for a new car. My initial choice was a 2016 Toyota Highlander or 2016 Lexus RX350, but the current prices for those cars are crazy so I'm considering cheaper options. I'm now looking at 1. 2018 Ford Edge 2. 2017 KIA Sorento 3. 2017 Hyundai Tucson My preference is the Ford Edge because of it's interior and looks but I don't know anything about the car in terms of reliability. However, reviews I have seen here about Ford Edge aren't very encouraging with most talking about engine failure due to water pump. But I also noticed that most of the complaints are about the 2008-2012 models of the car. So I want to find out if anyone here has experience about the 2017/2018 models of Ford Edge and find out if it still has those issues. Please your opinions will be highly appreciated. Thanks. |
kingreign:Not exactly! Can you suggest alternatives? |
nurey:Okay. Mission hasn’t been activated yet. Oga Nurey could you please suggest to me alternatives to a Toyota RAV4 that’ll be equally reliable or close enough with good fuel economy, low maintenance cost and availability of parts. The 2018 RAV4 is just too pricey. 2017 Honda CRV is much cheaper and closer to my budget but the reviews about CVTs and then the complaints relating to their small 1.5l turbo engine are quite worrisome. Otherwise, the Honda fits almost perfectly to what I need which is great interior, great look, great gas mileage, nice features and from a popular brand known for reliability! What do you think sir? |
Subaru make really rugged cars and SUVs that are pitch perfect for our Nigeria roads such as the Forester, Outback and Impreza. But I’m quite surprised that they’ve not been able to make its way into the Nigerian market. I mean for a car brand that prides itself on building products for difficult driving terrains, they should be everywhere on our roads considering we have some of the worst roads for cars anywhere in the world! Why have Nigerians not accepted Subaru yet? Is it that they’re very unreliable? Do they have engine or electrical problems? Or it’s just a case of limited knowledge about the brand? I’m presently on the lookout for a new compact/midsize SUV and I have been doing a lot of research on some of the best and affordable ones out there and I find the 2019 Subaru Forester quite interesting and impressive. Toyotas (RAV4 and Highlander) and Lexus of similar age, specs and features are just too pricey and that’s why I’m looking at cheaper alternatives. So auto experts in the house, mechanics and car users and enthusiasts in the house, can you please drop your 2 cents on this matter? What is wrong with the Subaru? |
TomiSwag:Good day bro, please based on your experience of Hyundai so far, would you recommend newer models of Hyundai as an option for someone who is looking for a reliable compact suv? I’m thinking particularly towards the 2018 or 2019 Hyundai Tucson because it’s more cheaper than older models of the RAV4 or CR-V and also more equipped with the features I really need. |
kingreign:Okay thanks. But the other normal 2.4l variants are good right? |
kingreign:I was considering the Lexus and Highlander before the whole exchange rate crisis. Now, the price for those have shoot up and I’m looking at a difference of 4-5million ish more than the Hyundais |
Hello guys, I'm about getting an SUV and the 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport and the 2018 Hyundai Tucson Limited caught my eyes. I honestly love how those cars look on the road each time I see them and of course, I like their interior designs and features too. But I'm not very familiar with Hyundai cars so I'll like to know how reliable and durable those cars are. I don't care much for the resale value, I just want a nice looking but solid and dependable car with nice features that can last me a while. How well can they hold up in our Nigerian roads? How's the cost of maintenance? Are their parts readily available in the open market? I initially was looking at either the 2015 Toyota Highlander XLE or 2015 Lexus RX 350 F Sport but they're a lot more expensive than both the Santa Fe and the Tucson and even less packed in terms of features. Please, I'll need experts and users of these cars or brand to help me make up my mind. |

20:06 AIl LTE C 20:38 / 21:14 < Replies X Good day guys, Please, I was issued a study visa after over a year of applying but the date on the study visa wasn't moved forward. I applied for the visa in September of 2021 against January 2022 when I was supposed to resume but I received the visa approval in December of 2022 (1 year 3 months after my application). The approved validity date on the visa is January 2022 to March 2024 (that means, I only have 15 months left on the visa as at when I received the approval). Unfortunately, I had also lost my admission from the school during the waiting period and I had to reapply for a fresh admission. I was eventually issued an admission for January 2024, that means by the time I'II be coming to Canada for study, I'll have just 4 months left on the study visa. Will I still be allowed into Canada? And if yes, will I still be issued my full two years study permit or the study permit will be based on my visa validity? I'II be waiting for your response, thank you. Add a reply... |
My brother… You’ll live long like this o. A once happy chap like me don turn to bitterleaf since I got married. And guess what, I used to think it’s just me o, but until I hear other guys talk their own then I realized that all my guys that have been disturbing me about getting married are living in perpetual unhappiness and depression. Given the option, most of them will prefer to leave their marriages and they’re basically just sticking it out because of the kids and what people will say! I mean, everyday of sadness o. I’ll hear some talk and I’ll feel grateful for mine. But because our African society isn’t kind to people that leave their marriages (especially if it’s simply for the sake of seeking genuine happiness), most people just live through the sadness until they drop dead. And as it is for men, so it is for women equally! DryMouth: |
Seyola16:Well… I have been saving up for this for years now. But comparatively, TRU MBA is among the cheapest in Canada. |
CuriousGeorge:Yes, I’m going for MBA. I didn’t do it myself, I employed the services of an agent. But funny thing is, this particular school I’m going to, I was the one who secured the admission myself. Visa application was done by the agent. |
kobobay:I going to Kamloops, BC Fall 2023. Received my Study permit September 2022 but deferred my admission to enable me save up more money. How do we connect? |
Hello house… Please is anyone going to Thompson Rivers University this September? Or is there anyone who is already schooling there? My study visa has just been approved and I’ll like to connect with someone already there or who is going there so that I can make some enquiries. Thanks |
Hello everyone one... Please I have a really urgent enquiry to make here. My cousin has been admitted into Vistula University and now we are ok n the verge of applying for her visa. The challenge now is the proof of fund. We learned that the POF funds must be in a credit card and a certificate of credit card limit should be gotten from the bank. However, the mother has gone to GT bank where she has an account and where the POF is, but the bank says they only issue credit card to domiciliary account and not naira account. She also inquired about the certificate of credit card limit but the lady that responded to her said they don't issue that. So what I want to find out is, must the credit card be a naira dominated card or can the USD credit card be used as well? And how do we go about getting the certificate of card issuance and limit? Please I need answers here from people that have gone through this process. How do we go about getting the credit card? |
Hello Car gurus. Happy new year to you all. Please I am a new car owner. I got a 2011 Toyota Camry SE tokunbo and I have been paying attention to the fuel consumption of the car and it seems to be consistently far off the numbers listed online. From the recent numbers, I drove about 450km (90% city driving) with 60ltrs giving me around 7.5km per litre or 13.3 litres per 100km. Please is this okay or is there something wrong with my car?. I bought the car at 180k miles. Please I need replies to help me sleep well or find solution if there's a problem. Thanks |
While my mind was made up on the TSX, I only just discovered now that the tsx requires Premium gasoline and not the regular gasoline we have in Nigeria. I have read that this will affect the performance, gas mileage and have a big toll on the engine in the long run. This is a huge put off for me as I would prefer to have peace of mind with my first ride. What do you think sir? nurey: |
Thanks sir... I will come back to testify once I get it |
